Description

This life-changing manifesto shows how you have the potential to make a huge difference wherever you are.

Few authors have had the kind of lasting impact and global reach that Seth Godin has had. In a series of now-classic books that have been translated into 36 languages and reached millions of readers around the world, he has taught generations of readers how to make remarkable products and spread powerful ideas. In Linchpin, he turns his attention to the individual, and explains how anyone can make a significant impact within their organization.

There used to be two teams in every workplace: management and labor. Now there's a third team, the linchpins. These people figure out what to do when there's no rule book. They delight and challenge their customers and peers. They love their work, pour their best selves into it, and turn each day into a kind of art.

Have you ever found a shortcut that others missed? Seen a new way to resolve a conflict? Made a connection with someone others couldn't reach? Even once? Then you have what it takes to become indispensable, by overcoming the resistance that holds people back. Linchpin will show you how to join the likes of...

· Keith Johnson, who scours flea markets across the country to fill Anthropologie stores with unique pieces.
· Jason Zimdars, a graphic designer who got his dream job at 37signals without a résumé.
· David, who works at Dean and Deluca coffee shop in New York. He sees every customer interaction as a chance to give a gift and is cherished in return.

As Godin writes, "Every day I meet people who have so much to give but have been bullied enough or frightened enough to hold it back. It's time to stop complying with the system and draw your own map. You have brilliance in you, your contribution is essential, and the art you create is precious. Only you can do it, and you must."

Waste of time and money

The fact that this is under the business essentials category makes me question every other recommendation in the category.
This book was the same premise repeated over and over, ad nauseam. Perhaps that would be acceptable if it was a novel idea, but it's not. Make yourself indispensable. There - I saved you $10 and hours of time. Please don't waste your money on this useless piece of low-level self-help garbage.

Wow! Paradigm shift of what it means to stand out.

This is an incredible book outlining what make someone irreplaceable. This book is applicable to anyone and everyone living today, employee, entrepreneur, blogger, young, old, it doesn't matter. Just read this book and understand that we can all be artists and provide something of great benefit to this world.

Had my own personal breakthrough while reading this book. Good stuff if you're open to the message!

Don't be a factory worker!

Great insights on how you can free your mind and not get caught in the "it's a crappy job but at least it's steady" mentality. Yes, somebody has to work in the factory but it doesn't have to be you. Seth is brilliant but never so full of himself that he can't relate to the struggling artist in everyone. Highly recommended.

Another great by Seth

Amazing that a man can write so many words and waste none.

Does a part of you wince at the thought of purchasing a tself-help book? When you notice that Godin publishes about 10 books a year about the same thing, does a dubious inner voice raise any concern about the quality of thought going into each of them?
In this case these instincts are correct. This is a smug, vapid, pseudointellectual, cliche-filled cheesepuff of a book. Nothing in it is really provocative except for the constant nagging assurance that its author is a provocateur. This is truly a book I wish I hadn't paid for.

Godin's Linchpin is very thought provoking

Seth Godin makes an excellent case to re-establish how you view your life, the work you are doing, and most importantly, how you contribute.
Using the premise that everyone can be an artist, the key message is create something of value that is a gift ... And everything else will take care of itself.
While I'm making this over simplistic, Godin details key themes, challenges, research to boost his approach. And with the great advent of technology, and flattening of the playing field, everyone who adopts this point of view sees the greater opportunity.
In short, a good read that leverages many of his earlier concepts in the marketing realm

I've done this for the past 3 yrs at a large financial corporation prior to reading this book and it works beyond your wildest dreams. I agree with the entire work and now have a map of sorts to share with what will hopefully become former cogs at work. Thank you for putting this art into an easy to share medium.

Godin mashes past and current to deliver passion, thoughtfulness and creativity. An injection of "hey this is it!" combined with the dare to do it. It being your work.

It will. Are you prepared for that? You better be. Otherwise somebody else is going to change your life for you.
If you're not reading this book then you are likely wasting your time reading anything else yet. Your perspective on everything else will change.
Absolute must read.

a book filled with enough material between the lines caught up into the thoughts of your mind, and read between the beats of your heart. It reads You, and tells that person you see in the mirror every morning, every day, every night, that TODAY is the day... Create! Breathe, Live! Be You... Always.
Buy it. Read it. Read it again. It's worth it. You'll be glad you did when you rise in the morning to face your 'tomorrow'

A must read

I read this book in hard copy when it first came out. When I got an iPad today this is one book I knew I wanted to have with me if only to remind myself that in the modern work world they can always find somebody to follow the rules cheaper than you.
It is what you create, what you generate, the art that you do that is not easily duplicated or templatized that makes you a linchpin.
