Description

The #1 New York Times bestseller is available for the first time in a mass market paperback edition, featuring a striking movie tie-in cover.
Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.
Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

I was a little biased when I started this book. I'd heard terrible things about twilight and knew the movie was super cheesy. But as soon as I started this book I was hooked. Of course it's an obvious romance so don't start reading this expecting action and adventure. It's kinda of slow going but it sets the rest of the series up wonderfully. A definite favorite❤️

Don't get me wrong, I love this book and the rest of the series as well. The reason I give it four stars is because there are a few things I don't like about it. For one, it is a really easy read. There are very few really descriptive words, and it makes some parts sort of boring. Also, I don't like how Bella is literally OBSESSED with Edward. She can barely be away from him for a day. I don't like the whole "depending-on-your-boyfriend" thing. It's sends the wrong message in my opinion. Overall, I liked the book, and I would recommend it👍🏻

When I first read Twilight, I was overcome with disbelief that someone could write such drivel. Someone breaking into your house and watching you sleep is not romance, it's grounds for a restraining order. Besides the messed up relationship, Bella is the most bland, boring excuse for a main character. I see no development, aside from at the beginning of the book, she had no boyfriend versus at the end of the book, she did. I really wouldn't recommend this for my worst enemy.

I could hardly make it through this book, there was so little story. Honestly, 85% of this book is just Bella describing things like a robot and talking to people like a robot. We never learn anything about Bella, and she never learns anything about life. 500 pages of almost no plot, no chemistry between the characters, and little involving vampires. Why is this categorized under horror and monsters, anyway?! Because there are no monsters in this book until the very end. And even then the book cheats us. Argh!!!😠

I have to admit that I didn't even read all of it. Why?Because it is REALLY boring!!! Not only that but it is confusing and Bella has no personality. But I do However LOVE the movies! It's more interesting,in my opinion. If you want to read twilight I would recommend not doing so. Really boring. But if you must, you should defiantly WATCH instead of reading this.

After so many people read and talked about the book and movie, I decided to read it. Make my own opinion of it.
I must say, it was disturbingly surprise. The author plays the heroin to be soooo depended of the male character. She leaves, breaths and lives for him???? At 17, it she sending the wrong message??? After all, this book is a teen paranormal. I would it like the heroin to be strong minded, and some what confidence.
I'm a fan of supernatural books, but not this one.

Never had an interest in the books, but I thought I would give it a try seeing as to all the hype of the saga has quieted. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, but I'm a sucker for cheesy love stories anyways. If you have some time, and a friend with the book, try it out, it's not as bad as I thought, of course I still have 3 more books to read ;)

Well, all I can say is I never gave much thought to Twilight. I never liked the movies and thought the subject of vampires were very unrealistic. One day in class we were told to read and I finished my book. I had Twilight in my library so I decided I'd read some. Suddenly I found my self hooked. I loved it and had to read them all in like a week. I really hope Stephanie Meyer decides to make more of the twilight saga. I am especially interested to read Midnight Sun once it is released.
I love this series also because Meyer puts so much detail into her books. Everything she describes I can picture. I wish that I hadn't watched a few of the movies before reading them because now it is harder to picture the characters as she describes them. I love how different all characters are from one another. Every character has their own story and life. They have very distinct personalities and relationships. I love Aro and Jane, but I wouldn't mind seeing them fall eventually.

I first read this book when I was around 13 and I absolutely loved it. Lots of people hate this book because the movie wasn't as good, but I thought it was cool, especially since I live near Forks, WA. It was awesome reading a book that mentioned vampires in places like Port Angeles and Seattle because when I was 13 I believed in vampires so it was pretty spooky.
I'm 17 now and still not afraid to admit that I loved all the books in the Twilight Saga! I'm about to read them again and reminisce~
Also, you should check out The Host! It's by Meyer too and it's really good as well. :)

This book was a Christmas present. Couldn't get past the first chapter... But I also was never one to read unless it was for school.... And sometimes, not even then. I tried again about a month later when my moms best friend told me how much she loved the series. Read it in one night. I immediately ordered the rest of the series and read all of them straight through.
For those people who complain about the lack of violence, and later on, the "inappropriate" scenes between Bella and edward, (by the way, they were married, which, in my opinion, is a RARE thing to read or see in a movie) this is a LOVE STORY!!! It might be under children or teens, but I believe the people who enjoy these books the most are older. I was 22 when I first read twilight.
After experiencing real life, and real death, these books, and others like them are a wonderful escape from a world where things usually don't end happily. To the 9 year old who criticized this saga: try reading it in about 10-15 years; after learning what life is really like, you may find that the wonderful escape to this romantic, happy, love story is why the books are so popular. ADULTS like remembering a time when love was so simple... Yes, and even a triangle seems simple.
And like the quote Stephanie gives at the beginning of Breaking Dawn, [paraphrasing] "...childhood is the world where nobody dies..."
I think I can speak for most of the adult readers here when I say, I miss that world. Thank you, Stephanie, for this pleasant, entertaining escape from life.

While I read the entire series, and I view that time as entirely wasted, I have to say this book, it's "romance", and it's treatment of vampire lore is utterly and completely shallow.
First off: The romance. If not entirely co-dependent, then Bella is woefully pathetic. She is a weak main character, a complete roll over personality, and the type of woman that would stay with a guy who beat her. The romance is shallow because the character is shallow. Edward.. Is not a character. He is a name, that interacts with others.
The treatment of lore: I am not a fan of the lovey vamps of this generation. Vampires are cold, malicious land sharks who want to eat you. They hunt, they kill, they burn in sunlight, and the cannot reproduce BECAUSE THEY ARE DEAD. Bella had sex with an eighty or some odd year old corpse. I'm sorry, but no. Just no.
This book can be read. I'll even say should be read, if only to say you have suffered through them. But it is on the level of "50 Shades" on the meter of: 'Look how much self respect women don't have these days' all while it is cheered by female fans. The book is not disgusting, the popularity of it is.

Pure awesomeness

I am sorry to those die-hard Twilight fans reading this, but I strongly dislike this book. I have actually read the books, so my opinion is generated from fact, not what I hear from others. I admit that I began reading them without an open mind, but as I reread them, I looked deeper into the book and kept a more open mind. In the book, I realized, two (at the least) were taken up with a very uncreative few lines of, "I love you," "I love you too," "I know". I just don't know what to say. I dislike how weak and powerless Bella is. I don't like how when Edward leaves, she breaks down. I don't like the feminine picture the book paints. Although, Stephanie Myer did an EXCELLENT job appealing to teen audiences. As you can see, I most strongly dislike this book.

On the last day of school a friend of mine was throwing her Twilight book away for she had read it so many times when I happened to cross paths. She asked me if I had read the book and I said no. Realizing that this was a pop-culture phenomenom I decided to read and see what this was all about. She lent me the book and I have to say, I wish I had given her permission to dump it at the bottom of the garbage can. It really frightens me when people consider this actually literature. Really? These characters have no depth and are one dementional. Edward likes Bella for her blood, stalks her like a creep, and Bella likes Edward for his looks. Yes. This is what true love really is. If crap like this can be published and create multi-million dollar grossing films and 'inspire' a generation to love this worthless air head of a novel then who knows what else outhere is being passed as 'true forms of literature'. This book is written like a horrible fan fiction. Want real literature? Go read George Orwell, Vladimir Nabokov, or Haruki Murakami. THAT is true story telling at its best. THAT is true talent.

Horrid.

Vampires can go out in the daytime because it's cloudy? And they play baseball?!?! Pure drivel. I would have stopped reading about halfway through it, but I was so riveted about how poorly written this book is that I couldn't stop out of morbid curiosity. You know, kind of like not being able to turn away when you see something horrible about to happen. Take my advice: reading this is time you will never get back in your life.

Not this. It's time to be candid here and tell everyone who classifies this as "one of the best romances ever written" that there are more mistakes in this book when it comes to grammar and repetition than there are on the average 3rd grade paper. Not only does this book fail to give you ANY emotional attatchment to Bella, who comes off as a mopey teenager who hates every single aspect of life, but it also fails to develop WHY Edward fell in love with this trainwreck of a girl in the first place. Clearly Edward must be mentally disturbed, because no man would stand in someone's room while they're asleep and listen to them talk. Bella also must be on the same boat as Edward, because anyone who is FLATTERED by this obviously doesn't know how a man should treat a woman. And for any of YOU who think that this "really shows how much he loves her" has a really warped and twisted idea of what love truly is. What aspect of Edward does Bella actually like? Other than he's very attractive (which she proceeds to tell us on every other page), and that he gives some level of danger in her life which I'm sure thrills her. I'm not really sure I truly know the dynamic of their relationship, because Stephanie Meyer decides to spend pages rambling on about the way Bella positions her hands or the color of someone's hair instead of just getting to the point. Obviously pointing out some descriptive details is a major aspect of what writers call "imagery" but taking a time out from an important event and spend 5+ pages on a pointless story that is completely irrelevant just makes you want to skip it and continue reading what ACTUALLY MATTERS. Meyer really needs to learn what a "good book" is, and go write one, because so far, she has absolutely none published. Building up 200+ pages of a story, forming a plot (or trying to, and failing epically), and then having the whole thing end in a matter of 10 pages is very disappointing. I was expecting an epic ending or something that would leave me on my toes, but it didn't. I read the whole series anyway, in spite of my head telling me I was an idiot, and I wish I could take back that part of my life which as I so lovingly put it,has gone right down the crapshoot. So please, think very carefully before reading this, because the book is basically uneventful, stupid, boring, bland, and lacking depth and even logic.

Umm...it's ok?

With the new Twilight movie coming out and all I decided to read this book to see what all the fan girls were going crazy for. I'm 14, and a girl, and people were saying that this was going to be the new Harry Potter so I decided to read it. Well, I don't know who decided to call it the new Harry Potter, but they couldn't be more wrong. This book seems to be focused on my age group, 11 to 16 year olds, and I'm guessing mainly it is for girls. Guys, if you want to read a love story with oddly out-of-character vampires and werewolves then be my guest. However, this book didn't really capture my attention. I find that is lacking descriptive details and things happen way to fast. One minute Bella is at school, and the next she is in the forest! You know what I mean? Also, I don't really approve of the "depending on your boyfriend for everything" message that I find in this book. That is certainly not what I want my life to be. I don't want to spend my life hoping the guy that I have a crush on asks me out. So, all in all, it isn't awful, but I don't really want to continue the series. But, if you want to read a so-so story about a teenage love story with vampires and werewolves then this book is for you!

If you read it once and be done, it's fine. Y'know, completely disregarding the fact that the protagonist is most definitely a Mary Sue.
It is a good 'light read' - just don't read it more than once, you'll hate it. Don't analyze it at all, don't try and point out inconsistencies. If you're going to read Twilight, read it once and be done.

I have heard both rants and compliments on this teen romance series, therefore I wanted to see what this all was about. The day I decided to buy this book, I could NOT put my iPad down! This book transcends you into the mind of the protagonist's life. It is shocking on how I took her emotions as if they were actually my own. I might be only 11 but I have to say Twilight is the best book that I have ever read in the whole entire world!! I would totally recommend this book for everyone!! Once when I read the first chapter I was hooked! I couldn't take my eyes of the page! After I read Twilight I eventually went on to New Moon, Eclipse, and the last ending to the whole saga Breaking Dawn. I do have to say out of all the books Breaking Dawn will have to be my favorite!! I mean who doesn't like a happy ending! I love Edward! I love how Stephenie Meyer describes Edward,Bella, and Jacob! If you're reading this, this means tomorrow you need to go to the book store and get Twilight!!!!!!! Let me remind you it's the best book ever!!!!! ( that's my opinion! Don't judge me!! )

Enjoy

I love this book and I'm a grown woman and I know others who love it too. It's not a stimulating masterpiece but it's enjoyable. I took some of the things others wrote a little personally. Anyone that loves this series is defensive of it naturally. The negative reviews that attack the intellect of those that enjoyed this book or who just bash it flat out are really more offensive than helpful. I think the haters are more angry that the book is such a phenomenon that they don't want to like it and find a reason to crap on it so they don't feel commercialized.

Horable

It may not be everyones cup of tea but don't let hollywoods rendition of this book deter you from reading this. The series gets more intense the farther it goes and the book itself is much better then the movie. If your into romance and suspense this is definitely worth a read i promise. It may have some fantasy like qualities but that's not the focus it's definitely more of a love story with suspense thrown in.

Is a great book. I know everyone thinks it's so stupid but I cant ignore the fact that this series kept me up until 3 am:)
I read a lot of different books but I only LOVE a few of them and this was one of them (along with Harry Potter and more recently The Hunger Games..) I don't know. I think I'm a sucker for romance novels?

Bleck:(

Twilight has the most bland storyline I have ever seen! Like tons of people say it sounds like it was written by a 13 year old and that's why so many teens like it! The characters are shallow and it's like Stephanie Meyers was trying to use big words as if she was a teen to act older! Come on! Teens don't use the word "rash" as in a rash decision in an email! Also be real! The story never develops and omg typos! If you must read the book go check it out from the library because it's not worth your money. Also, twilight phonetics out there, pick up a real book and figure out what actual literature is!

I absolutely hate anything fiction... But after I started this book, I couldn't stop reading it. I got addicted and soon understood what all the hype was about. This book is not just for teenagers. I'm thirty two and proud to be on team Edward. The movies are fantastic too!

Books are supposed to make you smarter. This book did the opposite. This book will make you feel insanely out of your mind. Everyone probably tells you "ohh twilight is such a great book you should totally read it!". If you value your sanity take my advice and dont.

Not for children

I agree these books are not for children and should not be labeled as such. I LOVE the series and have read it several times, but I am 26 and married. Definitely not "childrens fiction".

If there was a negative rating...

I tried to read this (to see what the hype is all about) but the first few pages almost killed me. It was extremely bland, really boring. I never liked the Twilight series and I honestly TRIED to give it a chance. Bella is such a dull character (teen girls relate so well and love this series because they're so caught up with lust and infatuation -what they think is actual love when it really isn't- and the fact that they don't known much at all and still have A LOT to learn, hence liking/loving such a terrible book by a terrible author and claiming it's the best thing in history. Meyer, in my opinion, is a bad writer who found an excessive use in the thesaurus. Not to mention, for a published novel that supposedly sold so well, the grammar and sentence structures are absolutely horrible. What happened to proof-reading? I don't know if any of you noticed all those errors, but I could have sworn we all took English courses for a reason. A published book has never made me want to grab a red pen to correct all the errors as much as this.
NEGATIVE 5++++ stars. Such a horrible read. I won't ever waste my money on this book, or any of the books in the series. Even the movies are horrible (acting and all), no offense to all you Twilovers out there. Eventually, you'll grow out of it :)

Okay I have nothing against people who like twilight but I need 2 say there is some inapropriate things in later books so just beware no offense in any way 2 twilight fanatics. Bella has as much personality as a brick. Edward is abusive. And if ur going 2 pin point at an epic battle actually HAVE one!!!!!!!

IT IS AWSOME!!!!!!!

Okay... Bella is a brick. She has no personality. She says things anyone (girl) would say in her shoes so female readers can inscribe themselves on her blank-easel of a character...
Just the opening few pages convinced me I was reading pure tripe. The opening page was so canned I couldn't even get through it without thinking, "why am I reading this?" The answer being I wanted to understand why my mother, sister and ex loved this book so much.
I'm glad I borrow a copy because if I paid for this, I'd have to punch myself in the face for wasting money. And I'm the kind of person that places a value on time and money based off of what I get out of it. Stay away from this book is my recommendation, or borrow a copy if you must read it.

Waste of time.

I have re read the series more than 3 times and find it amazing! Twilight is slow at the first, but becomes better about halfway through. I'm 15 and still admit to reading it. I have read a lot of books from many series, and the Twilight saga is one of the best. It is my second favorite vamp series next to Cirque du Freak. I highly recommend it.

I found the concept to be archaic without even having been popularized before. Honestly, it's rather juvenile. At 16 years of age I'd just read this book to understand the hype (I rented it from the Public Library -- I'm not about to buy this) and I truly was disappointed on both ends. It wasn't the groundbreaking, earth-shattering masterpiece that sexually-repressed and dramatically quixotic teenage girls rave that it is. However, it wasn't the laughable, horrendous insult to literature that I looked forward to criticizing. In one word, the novel was negligible. From the start, there was nothing too enthralling about the writing style (except for the preface). Where it boasted a certain poetic visualization, it lacked in depth and subtlety. The biggest flaw was the Plain-Jane protagonist was far too plain. I had no incentive to become involved in this 'Belle' character. Furthermore, I found the dark romance to not be as grim as anticipated. This book isn't a happy-go-lucky love story, nor is it a Shakespearean tragedy of dark affairs. It's rather caught in a grey area of lackluster edginess that never tips the scales as a thrilling risqué masterpiece that can only be achieved in Vampiro-Human attraction. This plot had a lot of potential, and Meyer boasts a writing style very complimentary of an amateur poet (which is a path in which she should venture), but it fell just short of compelling -- if even interesting.

Must read series

Any one, any age can enjoy this series. It is a wonderful story, so different than anything I've ever read and just beautifully done. It takes you into a world so different, and makes you fall completely in love with it. It definitely catches your imagination and really is a great read. I love this series, I think they are well written, and worth your time. I've reread them already multiple times and so have many others I know.

Truly Awful

The entire Twilight series is an insult to literature. The books are not well written, have very little point what so ever and shame teenagers. They are depicted in the books as "hot" boy-crazy dips who have nothing better to do than date mysterious vampires and run around all over creation wheb their so-called "soul-mate" ditches them (already the story has very little plot). Don't sink down to Twilight's level by reading this poor excuse for a book.

Very well written! I loved this book. I do agree with the other posts, this should not be read by anyone under 13. Teen fiction would be more appropriate for the classification. Other than that, I highly recommend this book.

This is as unentertaining, mediocre, and stupid as a baby book can get. Ms. Meyer, GET A LIFE BECAUSE NOBODY LIKES YOUR BOOKS! Get on with life, start a restaurant, go hug a tree or something, and you'll find yourself a lot better off than writing about bored and depressed vampires!
