Description

Phonic Faces Alphabet Storybooks show children the sounds that letters make. Just move your lips or tongue like the letter cue in the face, and the correct
sound is made. Each book also develops a theme, such as the senses, animals, vehicles, or cool foods.
Peter Pops is designed to be a book used early in alphabet learning. The /p/ sound is an easy to produce and visible speech sound that can help young children see, feel, and hear the letter-sound connection. Have children observe how the top of the letter P looks like the top lip of Peter. Then have them touch their own top lip and make the /p/ sound. They will be able to feel the explosion of air on their finger as they make the sound. In this story Peter pops popcorn and he explores it with his senses — hearing, seeing, feeling, and smelling it. As you read the book help the child point to the “p” letters that are part of the illustrations and read them by producing the /p/ sound. It is a great book for beginning of the year units in classrooms when children are learning about themselves.
