Description

She’s handed in her resignation—but this wealthy rancher has another position in mind…
In three months, Pilar Lopez will be free: free of the charity she’s always had to take from the Merrill family, free to live where she wants, free to be her own person. The secretarial job Benedict Merrill gave her five years ago has allowed her to support her younger brother and she’s indebted to the wealthy rancher. But soon her brother will be on his own and she’ll leave the tempting Benedict—and her powerful attraction to him—behind forever.
When she hands in her resignation, Benedict reveals plans of his own—ones that involve Pilar in his bed. She can handle a three month affair, no sweat. But when she starts to fall for Benedict, will she be able to handle loving him for always?

This was a great emotional roller coaster. I could not put it down.

Quick read, not much depth or character development

Overall I loved this book, but I wish there had been more material and more depth of the characters. I finished the book in about 2 hours, and while I read quickly I do like books that last me a couple days. Writing was good, characters flip flopped on whether they were dominant or sweet and emotional, and independent or helpless.

Eh. It was OK

This story was difficult to read because the author couldn't make up her mind what kind of story she wanted to tell. Did she want her male hero to be an alpha male or not? Did she want her heroine to be a strong independent woman or not? The actions of both characters, and especially the way the book ended made it difficult to answer those questions. I think it's what is plaguing some of the contemporary romance writing today. Authors don't know how to portray the female leads in these fantasy plots. In my opinion, it works best when the author just decides, and then writes it that way. Most readers will appreciate that because it will make the book less confusing, and a lot more fun to read. I won't be continuing this series, or reading other books by Genevieve Turner.

Loved this cowboy contemporary!

Pilar and Benedict's story is just the right mix of sexy, sweet, and touching. Benedict has been crazy about his secretary Pilar Lopez for years, but since she's raising her brother Javier after losing their parents, he's been biding his time, waiting until Javier leaves for college to begin his pursuit in earnest. He has to accelerate his plans when Pilar hands him her notice of resignation.
Benedict and Pilar's chemistry sparked off the pages. Like other reviewers, I don't know how she got any work done with a boss like him. I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series.
