Description

“[A] surprising iPhone and Apple Watch bestseller is pushing the boundaries of fiction” - boingboing.net
“This is the best game on the Apple Watch” - Time.com
Lifeline is a playable, branching story of survival against all odds. Using your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you will help Taylor make life or death decisions, and face the consequences together.
Acclaimed writer Dave Justus (Fables: The Wolf Among Us) weaves a gripping interactive story through the aftermath of a crash landing on an alien moon. Taylor is stranded, the rest of the crew are dead or missing, and Taylor’s communicator can only reach you.
Lifeline pioneered a new narrative experience enabled by modern devices. This story plays out in real time as Taylor works to stay alive, notifications deliver new messages throughout your day. Keep up as they come in, or catch up later when you’re free. You can even respond to Taylor directly from your Apple Watch or your iPhone lock screen, without launching into the app.
Or, dive in and jump back to earlier points in the story, and see what happens when you make a different choice. Simple actions can have a profound effect. Complete any single path to restart the story and unlock this mode.
Lifeline is a deep, immersive story of survival and perseverance, with many possible outcomes. Taylor is relying on YOU.
You can play Lifeline in any of these languages:
- English
- French
- German
- Russian
- Simplified Chinese
- Japanese
- Spanish
- Korean
NEW in version 1.8: Stick around after the game for a special story epilogue from Dave Justus. For players who have already finished the game, the Bonus Story becomes available under the game options. Witness the events leading up to Lifeline: Silent Night.
Internet connection not required. No in-app purchases and no ads.
Praise for Lifeline:
“I’ve played many games that I find engrossing, but Lifeline may be one of the first that changed the way I thought about my daily routine, which leapt off the screen and became a part of my lived experience.” - Eli Cymet, Gamezebo
“I felt an immediate attachment to a fictional character pinging me from a strange galaxy to my wearable.” - Luke Hopewell, Gizmodo Australia
“[P]laying it on the Apple Watch makes you truly feel like you’re exchanging messages with an astronaut via a futuristic transmitter.” - Michael Andronico, Tom’s Guide
“For a few brief hours I cared – really cared – about the fate of a completely fictional character. I don’t think any other game I’ve played has made me feel that way before.” - Matt Thrower, PocketGamer

Love the texting to each other

I love that. I’m getting prompted by text from the game. Feels like I’m communicating someone from out of space through a text message.

This “game” is awesome. It has plenty of possibilities, but be careful… a wrong decision could cost Taylor his life. I am sure you will enjoy it so give it a try..

Standard concept, poor execution

The concept is just what I expected when I found the game- Taylor is a student "scientist", working on some "experiment" with rats on the "Vario", a multi-million (billion?) dollar extra-solar system ship. The ship crashes, Taylor manages to be shoved on board a now destroyed escape pod and needs to find water, food, warmth and possibly the rest of the crew along with .... well, I think the less obvious needs of Taylor change with the choices the earth bound assistant makes for Taylor, within very limited strictures.
Those are some of the basics of the scenario but moving on in gameplay I'm able get more of an impression of who Taylor is, and it begins to seem that this is someone with the emotional and intellectual maturity of a middle school student. A huge contributor to this is the attitude he (Taylor was originally female but I didn't want a stereotype of a confused, lost woman so I changed her gender) displays toward the metric system. Anyone in the sciences has a working familiarity with the metric system, beginning with, at a minimum, grams and milliliters. In fact, I don't know a single individual who shows the level of ignorance Taylor does. I'm not sure what purpose this demonstrated ignorance serves; it doesn't advance the plot or give the player the feeling of helping a peer.
Overall, I don't see this game as thrilling way of expanding game expectations and boundaries. Instead, it strikes me a standard look at what can happen when we make one of two choices, with an unfortunately unintelligent character carrying out our suggestions.

Waiting hours just to see consequence

I’m a fan of choice-based story games, but this one has an added feature of being “real time”. Meaning, you have to wait hours to see the consequences of your decision. And sometimes, you wait hours only to find out your character died, so all those hours waiting turned out for nothing.

Badly written and lacks depth

Too many stops and starts. Wait forever to get moving. Used Fast Mode, which helps. But, the story and forced choice of only 2 responses doesn’t make it worth the time.

Fun adventure

My son turned me onto this years ago. This game is fun of course the first time I played I like killed poor Taylor a gazillion times. But it’s a playable game. This is the first one in his series. There’s four adventures for him and those games are just as fun. It’s one of those games that have you play. He let sit for a while when you can’t remember what happened and then you play again. It doesn’t get old. And I like the fact that you can just kinda take your time he’ll send you a text and then he’ll be off doing something and it’s not a Constant thing, unless you decided to turn on fast mode

The game maybe good. However, instead of a single notification saying something like “Taylor has messaged you”, you get…

Interesting narrative device, decent-ish writing

Downloaded this because the idea of storytelling over time through a fake interface seemed interesting. The game is decent and is an interesting gimmick.
Unfortunately, there isn’t really much gameplay to speak of - almost any choice you make that’s a wrong choice Taylor will ignore and just do what the story wants you to do instead. There are only really 2 major choices at the very end that determine what ending you get. Everything else is pretty pointless and leads to the exact same text eventually.
The writing is also - fine, but not amazing. It’s like a college student wrote a sci-fi short story. Decently interesting, but the dialogue is at times unrealistic or awkward.
Still giving it 5 stars to differentiate it from typical App Store slop. It’s definitely not that.

Lifetime Lifeline

I’ve been out of here for a long time, even didn’t know the whole series’ removal from my region. I managed an impulse try to recover my purchase, also a chance to rewind all my memories. Now it has been almost 9 years since the little nagging genius communicated with me, who was a girl sneakily playing iPad for the first time at 3 a.m.
I love this feeling of being someone’s company, hope and — LIFELINE!! And I always believe that it’s a two-way relationship. We’re actually saving each other.
Without exaggeration, I’ll say this game changed and determined my life. Thanks for creating Taylor — also other lively characters — and their stories for me, for everyone.

BORING!!! Takes too long to move story along

Text is hard for me to read. It’s not the size, it’s the font with the light blue words on the black background. Not a good combo. Should be able to change background and font color and style. Not easy on the eyes at all. Very corny jokes and annoying commentary. Too much snark and not enough realism. I wanted Taylor to die because he/she was the most annoying character I have ever come across in a game and I play A LOT! Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure out how to kill him, so I killed the whole app. This game must have been written by a child. That would explain all the positive comments, because this is a horrible “game”/joke. The 4.6 rating must be friends and family rating it high, because I can’t see how anyone can find this fun. The extremely annoying piecemeal texts are intolerable!

8 Years of Playing!

When people talk about their Roman Empires, I never thought I had one. Until, literally twenty minutes ago at the time of writing this review, my brain finally gave me the name of this experience. This was one of the first mobile apps I ever owned on my own phone (back when it was, if I remember correctly, free, since I was twelve and had no job to pay for silly phone games), and no matter how many times I finished I would play it again and again. I’m now almost 20 years old and I’ve just repurchased all Taylor’s stories to live through again. Truly one of the best games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.

Neat concept

Only a little ways in but I get the concept. Pretty cool, it’s unique and that is something that is lacking in games today. Four stars just because I haven’t finished it, when I do I would be willing to up it to 5 stars (unless it just gets really stupid).
Update: changing from 4 to 5 stars, had a blast with this one. Kind of short, but there’s is a bonus story, then a sequel. Awesome job guys, what a cool game.

Taylor’s boring

Ive been trying to play this game for a week and every decision I make that I think is going to lead to something interesting happening, I wait a few hours in real time for Taylor to come back and say that she wants to turn around. If I make her persist, I want a few more real hours for her to come back and say she still wants to turn around. Nothing is happening, just walking and wanting to turn around. There’s no direction and no story it seems like, just like endlessly going in super boring annoying circles for no reason

At first I thought this was going to be pointless and then when my mom decided to just click by it anyways I was a little bit upset that her money got wasted on something so pointless and then I actually played it and it was amazing my only request would be able to have an option of a mini gameOr maybe a button to click that so we can see what he sees at the very moment not anything that moves just may be a picture like if he was standing out of area and he was busy and if he was standing at the Varia we would just be able to see the Varia And that would be it no bugs or anything so far and I absolutely love this game and I am thinking about buying the second one how have I not heard about this before so worth three dollars

Playable again & again!

Like many of the reviews, I’m re-downloading this game for the third or fourth time, which not only makes it an excellent investment, but also speaks to how well it’s made and fun it is to play over and over. I’ve even bought all the other Lifeline games, which I will also replay after playing this one again (I like to go in order of game release because they get better and better). If you’re new to this game, it won’t disappoint and you’ll find yourself coming back to it time and again. I can’t wait for new versions to come out. When might that be, developers??????

This game touches my soul love it!

Under helpful User (gratefulformusic & konyvka) had an experience very similar to mine. It’s been a few years since I played. I started playing lifeline when It first came out and at that time I was going through a really hard time and very depressed and lonely. I remember some days the only thing that got me through the day was this game. Worrying about Taylor took my mind off what was eating me up. I was so lonely and depressed it felt good to know that someone needed me even if it was just a game. a fictional character that overcame many obstacles gave me strength to push through what I was going through. It gave me hope what seemed impossible was possible. And I looked forward to hearing from Taylor I didn’t feel so alone anymore. Besides all that the plot was great the app is just great! Definitely recommend.

Awesome and unique

I’m barely beginning the series in 2021 I’ve always wanted to play this but for some reason waited cuz I never heard anyone else talk about the game I got tired of waiting and 6 years later finally bought it and I’m glad I did I have never been a big fan of choice based games the only choice based games I really liked was Electronic Arts (EA) A Way Out or The Dark pictures anthology Man of Medan published by Bandai namco but this is a really cool game. I love how Taylor who is technically an ai playing a human character feels real. The way y’all made this ai character is unbelievable because it feels real in a way like there really is a scared science student alone In space A Way Out and Man of Medan are coop but For a game that only really includes 2 people Taylor and The Player. One is a video game character that is controlled by the system of the game who is being played by the ai but feels like a person with flesh and blood. I love how this ai goes in depth on the human characteristics including emotions such as, scared, relieved, and smart like an actual student makes this the perfect game.

I can’t recommend this game enough.

Heyo! I don’t know if lifeline is still being made, or if it’s left as only something from our pasts for us to cherish, but regardless - these games (if you could even call them that) are some of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. And what I mean by what I said earlier, is, as cheesy and sappy as this is gonna sound, they aren’t ‘games,’ they’re more than that - they’re such amazing experiences. From the actual waiting hours if Taylor is doing something that takes hours (which is so cool and immersive), to the sheer emotional tugging they do on you, it really, REALLY, makes you care what happens to this completely fictional astronaut, and my only complaint is that COME ON AGIYGAHAUB I DIED FOR THE FIRST TIME RIIIIIGHT AT THE END OF THE GAME! LIKE THREE CHOICES AWAY! THAT’S NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE GAME THAT’S A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY POOR DECISION MAKING!! Anyways, now that I’ve vented, totally get this game! I can assure you it’s worth way more that the $0.99 that it costs!!

It Reminds Me of the Choose-Your-Own Adventure Books!

I’ve played this game only a day, so far. I’ve seen others give bad reviews because it moves so slowly. To me, that gives it a more realistic feel.
Like others here, I have been going through a rough time, full of uncertainty. This game has the feel of helping another through something worse than my own situation. The speed, I feel, is just right. If someone IRL reached out to you in this way, hopefully you’d help them. At times, I find myself worrying if I gave Taylor good advice. Will he be okay? I see the character as a young man, in need of a mother-figure, to help him get through. This appeals to me, because my own child is grown and needing me less, these days.
I love the feel of this game. I like the pace. And it is so easy to become attached to Taylor, and to worry if he (or she) is okay.
I say “Thank you” to the developers, and I hope to see more games like this from you.

Most of the English sentences were understandable, but I often had to look for words because I was Korean and not American. As far as I know, the amateur Korean translation team has contacted me once before, and I know that you answered that you hired a commercial translation team. It's not too late now, so could you please give me a Korean translation version? It's okay if it takes a little longer. As a user who likes this kind of text adventure game, I'm asking for this kind of good game to become a mainstream genre in Korea. I think Lifeline is a very competitive game. But in Korea, only a few maniacs know this because of the language barrier. It's been 4 years and it may be a little unreasonable, but please.

Okay experience. I wish there were more features.

I tried to make Taylor suffer, and many times he did, but sometimes my suffer choices turned out to be the good choice for him. Oh well. I played this game on fast mode. Maybe it lasted an hour or two if I were to add up my playtime. :( Anyhow, I suppose the discoveries Taylor made in the end where interesting enough to reflect upon. Ish.
On an unrelated note, I like the atmospheric music, and I wish there was a feature for me to play it while my phone is locked, so that I can listen to it while falling asleep, maybe thinking about how Taylor is such an idiot for letting me guide him toward clearly bad ideas that led to his early demise. With this feature, I could at least get something consistently useful out if the app after I got bored of the story. Thx.

My Lifeline

Im a new student at university & ive been going thru a rough patch. Ive been very suicidal and depressed for so long. I always feel i have no one to go to for anything, and i thought all the bullying & hatred would stop in college, since everyone is supposed to grow up i guess. Nope, thats not the case, im not allowed to be me or like the things i like. ive cried so much where i just want to end my own life, because i have no one to care for mine and vice versa. this game came up in an ad i forget where but it seemed co so i gave it a shot because other than classes & sleeping i had no one to be with or anything else to do. Taylor made me realize that there is someone out there who hopefully connects with me, whether it be on a desolate moon in space or on earth, i hope i find someone to be my friend, or even talk to me at the very least. The fact that this fictional character took my mind off all my hardships and suicidal thoughts really means something to me. I just dont want it to end, i want to help Taylor do everything. Everyone pushes me away in life, even my own family. I feel like my phone is pointless as i talk to nobody and nobody talks to me, but when i see that notification that Taylor is no longer busy, my mood shoots up and i am so happy.
thank you for making this game, because it really is my Lifeline.

Could’ve been a good idea, but…

…it is so freaking boring.
UPDATE: I just monitored the time I had to wait for Taylor to stop being “busy“ and come back to the game. I waited 2.35 hours for him/her to return and then I got 1.6 seconds of dialogue before he/she left and the game went dormant again. How uninspired and boring could these developers, themselves, possibly be to think such a game would be interesting? Deleting the game now. Also made a mental note of this developer so as to never purchase from it again.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I see how the idea of a real-time game would seem clever, but in real time when somebody sleeps, what are you going to do, sit there for hours and watch? That is all there is to do in this game while it says “Taylor is busy“? It is just SO incredibly slow because you progress in, maybe, two-second intervals between Taylor being busy doing something and going away. So, for hours he/she is off doing something then comes back and you get, maybe, two seconds of dialogue and then he/she is off again. Boring, boring, boring. Too bad. I wanted to like this game.

No Back-Up!

This app/game/story is fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable. I tried the other apps from the same Dev and was equally happy.
BUT THEN:
There isn’t a way to retain progress and especially Fast Mode when getting a new device or needing to reset a device.
Retaining this important information should be a ‘given’ when purchasing something that works on the platform and device promised.
Very dissatisfied and unhappy with the lack of interest, response and realism from this Developer.
If you purchase this game/app it will not transfer to another device or if you have to reset your device. - Even if you restore from backup or save to iCloud.
Not sure if this is laziness on the Developer’s part* or something else.
Basically: these games become unplayable in the long term and whatever progress you make will only remain on a single device in that current iOS version. It will not transfer over and there is no restore or sync option.
*All major platformers (Apple/Google/Microsoft/Samsung/Fitbit/Garmin/others) provide specific and logical, ahead-of-new-updates and products, and anyone claiming or blaming anyone but themselves is just lazy or has other priorities and should be honest about it.

Five Stars

I absolutely love this game. I’m not a huge video game person to start with, but the way you communicate with Taylor, and how real life it seems like has me captivated. Everything seems really real, and it like you are talking to a real person not just a computer. Also I like how your choices don’t necessarily dictate his/hers. Taylor has common knowledge and good ideas, wry humor and keeps you interested. Some say that the only downside is how everything goes in real life time, like for example if he needs an hour to hike some where it actually takes an hour for him to get back to you, but I actually really like this feature. It keeps the game interesting, doesn’t have you playing for hours on end, and makes it seem even more real. I have an Apple Watch and totally love it on there. 100% recommend this game, it is worth your money!

Just give into the game and enjoy the ride

One advise i give to anyone, turn ON notifications and just give into the game, like a magic show or movie or play or VR, if you keep telling yourself this is unrealistic then obviously it won’t be. Chill out and enjoy the ride. It’s also the only game you can play on your lockscreen which adds to the magic.
Some of the reviews are as annoying as the character sometimes... it’s not a perfect game but i’m impacted and there is no other game out there like this.
I found myself more and more drawn to the story as it progressed. Some people complain that it’s slow, i personally think it’s more realistic and unexpected that way. I get like a personal text from the character every so often as i would from my friends. It’s engaging and worth the experience.

Needs a movie or a Netflix show or maybe even a game

When I saw this free story game I thought this was going be pretty boring despite seeing the great reviews for I’m not much of a reader. So I downloaded it mostly for it was free and I needed something to do when I died in squads on Fortnight or one playing rainbow six to help pass the time. Than I actually grew like it over time. Sometimes I would have to convince myself to read it but when I did read it I slowly started getting more interested in the story to the point I wouldn’t have to force my self no more. It became naturally.
It also helps when they threw little jokes at you and give you funny response they let you have the option to say. Helps keep you entertained. My favorite part in all this has to be when he gets in the peak and... well, those who read it knows what happens there. My verdict is for this 5 of 5 for if it can capture a person like me who hates reading and it also add the reader a atmosphere of music go along capture them in moment is perfect in all situations you will encounter. All I hope is that my eyes won’t turn green from after all I read.

Suspenseful and addicting unlike any other game out there!

This game is unlike any other game out there. There’s no boring repetitive humdrum like most games. Also amazing because you don’t have to physically be playing on your phone to be playing the game.”
The game is broken down into segments where you interact with the character. (See below where I mention pauses and notifications.)
The fact that you make decisions that change how the character navigates his or her life or death situation makes you feel as if you are a part of an actual real life situation and that the character is a real person contacting you for help, it definitely does not feel like you are just playing a game.
The pauses when the character is busy “doing something” are so suspenseful.
This game even notifies you so you can keep up as your day goes by or catch up later when you aren’t busy.
Making choices is really difficult at times.
Apparently you can go back and change your choices and see how things play out differently which I haven’t gotten to yet but will definitely do.
I will definitely be playing the other seven games in the series.
So glad buzzfeed named this game in its list of “games you hAve to play right now.”

Slow (reviewer busy) .......... REALLY slow.

Okay, I'm a VERY old school gamer, and when I read that this was a 'text adventure' game I got VERY excited, as I was hoping for something similar to what I'd played in my youth.
This is NOT that.
For all I know, the story may eventually become interesting. It's difficult to tell, because I've been playing it for two days and literally nothing has happened. The biggest problem is that Taylor, the character you're communicating with and directing, will actually give you maybe 5-10 lines of dialogue (mostly involving whining about his situation) and then.... go away. To walk, or eat, or whatever. And he will be gone for HOURS. So you wait, and go do other things in your life - except PLAY THE GAME YOU PAID FOR. Because until Taylor comes back, there's nothing you can do. Then he returns to give 5-10 more lines of whiny dialogue, and you will need to make a random decision that has no visible immediate outcome. Then Taylor goes away again for an hour or so. And you go do other things too.
To be honest, I wouldn't even classify this as a game. Its not engaging, and so far not even entertaining. Massively frustrating and dull is probably the best description I can give. I do not recommend.

Good game but one fatal flaw

This is a great game and entertaining. The story is great and you can actually put yourself into the shoes of the main character. I often thought that I would react in the same ways myself. The only thing I do not like is all the waiting. I can understand the reasoning for it. The character does something and you have to wait for them in real time. It is an awesome concept, BUT you get 4 or 5 small messages then have to wait a few more hours just to get 4 or 5 more small messages then wait another few hours. If there was more talking between the waiting then I would not have a problem with it. I paid 1.99 for this game and have done nothing but wait and wait. Other games employ this tactic such as Timecrest, but they let you buy gems to speed up the time. I would be more than elated to do that with this game. I know after you beat it you can fast forward the waiting, but that should be an option to begin with.

Fun game, but not without issues

This is a fun game, though a couple of issues keep me from giving it 5 stars. The first is the writing. The writer is trying way too hard to be cute and clever, in my opinion. Every other piece of dialogue doesn't have to be "funny" or clever. Nobody would talk like that constantly in real life, and it kind of took me out of the story. The other thing is that as the game went along, I felt like the choices I was being asked to make weren't having much of an impact on the story. I don't know if that's because the "correct" choice was too evident, or what, but I felt the decisions I was being asked to make weren't as interesting as in the beginning of the game.
Having said all that, I did enjoy the game, though, and look forward to trying the sequel(s).

Excite our ears!

The idea behind lifeline games are very intriguing. Although playing through this one (my first), I find myself somewhat disappointed and almost bored by how plain the game is. You only have two answers to choose from, some of which I I don't even want to ask with the responses given. I know each response requires a different rabbit trail of answers. Text only communication is a boring aspect. Let character come alive through voice comm. static at times hard to understand voice. Let us glimpse some background sounds into the situation. Correct answers lead to rewards/survival items. More calculated problems. I liked the radiation level question. Give us wrong answers, maybe the character gets injured as a result of bad guidance. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Don't just leave this opportunity in the wind or I might have to start my own version.

Great game!!!

I have 5 of the games in the series and I have to say my favorite so far is , infinity the reason being is because you are indoors. And because it's indoors you have limited places to go. So you can imagine it with more detail. When the games are outdoors it is hard to imagine because it is hard to imagine landscape. And, if the games are outdoors most people imagine plain flat land and maybe a mountain or two When you ask them to choose to go to usually a mountain or a human made structure. Another reason I like infinity is because you really get attached to the character Taylor. He is a great protagonist and even a great friend I must admit he even got me emotional at one point. (Not in a crying sense.) but I've finished that game. I really hope this helps you pick a game out of all of the many many lifeline games.

Read if you are skeptical

A lot of people are annoyed by the fact that you have to wait in between choices which is the point of the game. It's a role playing game. I played this game while I was a CIT at a camp and it was great. Whenever he asked me a question, I would answer. It's not meant for an iPad as it assumes you will have your device with you at all times. One person was complaining about the fact that he inevitably dies which is NOT true. On my first time I got him all the way to the end. By that I mean he ended up getting rescued by another ship. It was soooo crazy, my heart was racing so fast as I was listening to him running to the ship as literally the world was falling apart. I'm assuming I was very lucky to have had him survive on my first attempt. But nonetheless, great game and would highly recommend. Especially for this price

Gaming at its peak

Most of the reviews I've read have been the story line is complex and beautiful. Others have been I am a gamer and I hate waiting for things. I myself think the aspect of waiting for your friend(Taylor) to return is ingenious. It makes the player of the game really feel there with them. The realism of the game astounds me. Most games would the have the character immediately get to where they are going and continue talking to you. Having to wait makes it feel like almost a gift when they finally get back. You feel like you've build some sort of connection with the characters and are waiting for them to inform you on what's going on next. This is a game I have been waiting to see for a while and I am glad it made its way to the Apple Store.

Sci-Fi for iOS at its Finest

Ignore the less than four star reviews, they simply don't have the patience.
I have played all the installments in the Lifeline/Green series, and they only get better.
The moment I first began to communicate with Taylor, I felt like the character was real. Taylor elicited from me a protective feeling— I have never felt protective of a character in a game until then. Taylor was real, she needed help, and by God I was going to get her off that moon.
Now, these two aspects are often complained about, but they only make the game more lifelike. Actions have consequences. Decisions you make in the game early on matter, and can have large consequences later on. If Taylor doesn't make it because of a decision that seemed trivial at the time, then you have to rewind. In my eyes, this is genius. This allows for more exploration and dialogue between player and character. Now, real time is also complained about, but for those who complain, I ask this: does it take you only three seconds to eat, sleep, recalibrate advanced technology, or investigate a creepy room?
I came back to commend 3 Minute Games for their writing and endless creativity. The many settings and scenarios each installment takes place in has continued to engross me in each game. It has also taught me one important lesson:
The Greens could be anywhere.

Fun and simple, easy to fit into your day

I really enjoyed this game. It forces you to set it aside while Taylor explores something, which is great for still getting things done outside of the game. Some people don't like it but I had fun with it. And a couple things: Taylor tells you in the beginning s/he isn't a trained astronaut, but a student, so you shouldn't expect that level of competence, or age. You CAN get out alive. Once you've reached an ending for Taylor- death or life - it allows you to go back to change choices or start over, and gives you the choice to play fast, skipping the waiting periods. I died my first time and made it out the second, and used the fast mode just in the endgame. I would consider buying the others.

Best. Story. Ever.

I've gone through this storyline completely about 5 times now. This app is beyond amazing. I've never been more intrigued and glued to an app like this before. It's as if Taylor is a part of my life now and that I helped someone escape the evils of an unknown planet. Along with that I've never felt so attached to a fictional character before in my entire life. This game will never get old. The storyline is and will continue to be one of the best plots I've read. I wish 3 Minute Games and the author, Dave Justus, would publish like a more in depth and detailed book of this storyline. Same story just more descriptive and in detail. For instance like what happened during the '[Taylor is busy]' prompts. If they did that I would have no problem spending money to get my hands on one of them. Over all 10/10, 5 star, A+ game. Would definitely recommend.

A Wonderful, Thrilling Game!

It's a bit creepy as you try to save Taylor and uncover a frightening discovery in the process--but oh so much fun!
I loved playing this game on the side, as you could play here and there and wait for Taylor to finish actions if you're busy.
The game plot is over the course of a few days, which is perfect for me. You play it, start to finish, without it requiring too much actual attention or "work". This game is great if you're a busy person, or if you enjoy a lightly creepy story and want to blow off some steam. It's way better than watching a movie or tv show.
If you're just starting the Lifeline series, this is definitely the game to start with! I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did; it's definitely worth the 99 cents. :) I'm highly looking forward to future games! (I've already played Lifeline: Silent Night--which is a sequel to this game--and I was not disappointed)

Don't buy this app!

If you are not a fan of choose your own adventure. I bought this app thinking it will be a good story, a thought provoking game. Dead wrong. You only have two choices per scenario and vast majority of them have little effect on the outcome except a few critical decisions here or there. My greatest gripe about this game is the predictable story and the similarity of all the characters in it. I mean why can't the main character and a secondary supporting character have different personalities? They are both the same sarcastic yet sincere personalities. I don't know much about the writer but he or she seems like a novice to me. Not to be mean but I could have probably written a better story. Did I enjoy it? Yes for a brief moment but the predicable story and the characters ruined it for me. Btw there is at least a second part to this story. You are not even getting the full package with this app. Use your 2-3$ on other games.

The perfect game for a nerd like me.

I can say without a doubt in my mind that Lifeline is my absolute favorite game franchise that I have ever played. The concept is so intriguing (at least to a bookworm like me): you follow a story in which you actually directly interact with the main character. I don't recall ever being as emotionally invested in a game as I was while playing Lifeline (and as I am now, playing Lifeline 2).
With all of this being said, I understand that, in a time when games like Call of Duty and Candy Crush reign supreme, interactive fiction is not for everybody. Considering the fact that you must buy the game to play it, I suggest trying interactive fiction games before buying Lifeline.

Taylor's character is very much like us all

For the past two months I have been going through a rough transition in my life. I was trying to get my mind off of things so I began to play Lifeline during downtime. Since I began a few weeks ago I have been focusing on what I have to do with my family, friends, and job - all the while taking a few breaks every other day or so to check in with Taylor, the protagonist of this game. I immediately loved how similar it was like my favorite book series as a kid - the Choose Your Own Adventure series (which this game makes a reference to). It hasn't been easy guiding Taylor through his/her terrifying journey on this mysterious moon rock in space. But Taylor's struggle has been not too much unlike my struggle, so I stuck through it. I failed once and killed Taylor, but I immediately started over and took my guidance of him/her more seriously. Taylor's character is very much like us all. We love Taylor because he/she is that uncertain part in us that asks questions - waiting for a guiding answer from someone/something. What makes it so special is that we - the question askers - end up choosing the answers for our character/ourselves. The looming philosophical dilemma of free will vs. destiny throughout this game is what makes it an instant classic. The time spent on guiding Taylor home will forever be part of the memory of this transitional period in my life. Maybe it will bring something meaningful to yours.

Exciting, needs a few modifications!

I just don't do reviews, but this is a great game and I'm really enjoying playing. I play both on my iPad and on my iPhone, the iPad is a great console to play the game on… The iPhone on the other hand is very hard to read. I think it would be easy to change the font size, background and font color, to be more readable on the iPhone. The storyline is great, and Taylor has some witty comeback's and an interesting conversationalist. The story has humor and suspense, and really draws you in to Taylor's predicament. I'm not crazy about having to wait for Tyler to accomplish something in real time, sometimes I only have 10 or 15 minutes to play the game, and more than half of that can be spent waiting for Tyler to finish his activity. It would be nice to have a feature to go into quick mode if you need.

Cannot recommend this game more

Okay, so I normally don't do reviews, but even though it's been a while I felt like I needed to for this one. I am a big fan of these interactive reading type games, and I downloaded this on a whim when it was the free game of the week (though it's most definitely worth its price). The gameplay is simple and immersive simply because there is nothing to distract you from the story, and I thought that the real-time delays (like when Taylor goes to sleep or is out exploring) made it even more believable.
Story-wise, in my opinion, it could not be better. The way that you learn about this strange new planet, through his eyes, finding out information when he does, is what keeps you on the edge of your seat, and I love how the choices you're given can actually change what happens (I've played through multiple times). Taylor's sarcastic jokes also being a little lightheartedness to the whole rather intense story as well.
I could not recommend this game more. I'm a frequent player of games like these, and it's not often that I come across one that leads me to care for the character so deeply. I actually found myself worrying about what would happen while waiting. It's a beautiful albeit a little creepy story, and worth every cent you pay.

OMG WHY U PPL RATE SO HORRIBLY

I swear, I only played this because I felt like I needed a break from Plants Vs Zombies, but it is so cool!!!! I mean, sure, it's annoying when Taylor drops out for hours, or he misjudged a distance and takes more time than you thought he would to respond, but that makes it feel so realistic!
Why are people saying he is whiney?! He just fell from a crashing ship, of course he will be rattled!! I mean, you would be acting like that too!
This game is really different. If you like those defense, strategy, or action games, then this isn't for you. But I feel like you can really bond to the character, and that makes all the difference, as far as I'm concerned!

By the second day, I was hoping for her death

This is an agonizingly boring app. If you're a fan of choose-your-own-adventure books but hate the hassle of reading at your own pace rather than in scraps thrown to you at inconvenient intervals, then this is the app for you. If you are instead looking for something that engages your reflexes, intellect, problem-solving skills, or any other useful cognitive systems, then I suggest you find another app. The fact that this qualifies as a game on the App Store says a lot about the standards that the Apple app approval committee holds (i.e. how low they are). If I were an engineer or artist on this project, I would feel embarrassed to put this in my portfolio or on my resume. If I were a writer on this project, I'd wonder why I'm working for an app developer rather than Highlights Magazine. I can't remember if I spent any money on this app, but if I did, then I regret the small sandwich I missed out on. At least the sandwich would have nourished me and made me briefly happy, rather than exhausted and grateful to be done with the experience.

The Ultimate Choose Your Own Adventure

Probably my favorite app game ever. It's so creative and it's unique format is extremely refreshing. It's funny, heart warming, suspenseful, and eerie all at once. The humor reminds me a lot of the novel The Martian; it's full of sarcastic one liners that make me laugh every time. Plus it's text message style gameplay is increasingly eerie since it blends into the message notifications I get from real people, which gives the game a creepy, suspenseful edge.
I read through a lot of the negative reviews posted on here and I couldn't disagree more. The character never once sounded "whiny" to me at all, especially considering his circumstance. Honestly, the character is extremely charming since he uses humor to deal with his stress. The pace is also not a problem for me. The game keeps you thinking about it long after you exit the app. Since the game plays out in real time, I often found myself wondering "I wonder how Taylor is doing" and whenever he messaged me I would exclaim "Taylor's back!" and my boyfriend and I would immediately dive right back into the insanely mysterious, sci-fi world that Lifeline creates. This is a game I'll be talking about for a while. It deserves twice the amount of stars I can give it.

Different and refreshing

I'm a big fan of this game. Calling it a game is tricky because it is more of a story you interact with and direct. It reminds me a lot of Your Pizza Adventure, which is similar but a movie. This isn't a game for people who like shoot'em ups or the defense games, but let's be honest there are billions of those out there. Instead this is a refreshing look at how a game and App can be interactive, fun and intriguing. The real enjoyment is the discovery you experience through Taylor's journey. The App plays out in "real time" sort of, meaning that sometimes Taylor goes off to do something and you don't hear from him for a while. This really makes it feel real and adds to the sensation of interacting with a real person. I found myself checking my phone, wondering when I'd hear from him. I definitely think this game is worth a try, you have enough of the redundant other games out there, so why not add one that's different?

New type of game I love it

I've read a lot of the reviews and was thinking why some people hated it. I loved it because it reminded me of some great tiny stories I read as a child, Choose Your Own Adventures. To me it's is not a video game but a logic game outside the video game arena. So if you download it thinking that sure you will be disappointed but if you go into it as a story and you're the second main character of the story, you build the story and are in control of its outcome. I also love the long pauses as Taylor climbs it does something it makes you feel like a real person in a real situation and you cannot talk every moment of the way. I've played it seven times all with seven unique twists and turns. I give it 5 stars and want more, in fact I'm about to but the full versions myself.

Uniquely Atmospheric

This game as very captivating. The whole point is to guide an astronaut stranded on a moon in god knows where space and keep him alive as long as possible. The game has been keeping me playing because of the constant breaks the astronaut takes. This forces you to play by the game's schedule and it gives you just enough information to where you both know and don't know what's going on. It keeps you waiting for his next response and when he does it can get really interesting. The astronaut is a very human character. His whining can sometimes be annoying but overall he is both logical and intellectual. He has real fears and believable flaws. His character is simply another person stuck on the moon with you as his only source of communication to the outside world.

Mixed feelings

This text-based game (no graphics at all) is essentially "The Martian," only instead of Matt Damon figuring everything out, you have to make decisions for "Taylor." At each point along the way, you choose one of two options to give to Taylor, which he then follows (during which the game goes silent) and then some time later (could be hours) he presents you with another question and set of two options. That's it. The writing is humorous, although Taylor's witty comments get a bit corny and tiresome. I feel the developer is trying a bit too hard. I've been playing for a few days and nothing really exciting has happened. In addition, it's frustrating that you can't ask Taylor for more information at any point; you simply have to choose one of the two canned answers. The music is cool; sufficiently ominous. But after giving Taylor canned answers for a few days, I'm left with little more than a feeling he is one whiny, wimpy astronaut.

Awesome

This game was awesome. I regret some of the decisions I made, I could've gone a lot further. But this game actually pulled me in more than I thought it would.
The writing is well done, and the music was great. I got incredibly nervous when having to wait for a response. The real time was slightly annoying, but only because it made me think Taylor had died. I felt great relief when I got a message back.
Overall, few games have gotten me emotionally invested. I actually found myself getting concerned for Taylor. And so few games I've played have made me care about the main character.
I've already finished the game, I'll most likely play again, but Definitely gonna take a break.

Weird and annoying

I chose this bc of the great reviews and bc the concept is intriguing: a replayable adventure in space that relied on my choices. Instead, I'm stuck babysitting a whiny dork who can't make the most basic decisions to keep himself safe and who needs constant emotional reassurance. The decisions I'm asked to make are "go east or west" (without any description of what's east and what's west) and "chili with beans or without." Ugh. Not to mention that in a crash scenario, no one has even mentioned ACTUALLY GETTING THIS GUY SOME REAL HELP BY GOING TO FIND HIM! Maybe's he's so annoying that everyone else is just going, "leave him there, at least we don't have to listen to him anymore."
This is in addition to the lack of control over the pace of the game. It goes at it's own pace, sometimes hours in between plays and sometimes just minutes. Notifications help, but they come in bunches that can be extremely inconvenient.
I won't be buying any of the other games in the series.

Why not a five star?

This game is amazing I love it and it feels like u are talking to a real person I have seen some spelling mistakes that aren't abbreviations like we're it's supposed to say on but it says en but that's all I've seen so still a five star right know but the reason I put four was because something small if four and 9/10 was a rating choice I would do that because it's minor but I wish there was a countdown to show how much time u have left until Taylor is done doing something or going somewhere just wanted to put that out there it's only minor but if u have free time and there is nothing else u can add then add this it's no huge problem if u don't it would just be helpful so I would say 4 9/10 stars

Amazing game. Play it!

I love this game. Simplest way to put it. It's breath taking and dramatic, scary but sweet, heart stopping but life pumping! Taylor (a lost astronaut) needs help. I will give you this summary to quickly define this games.... I'm going to say awesomeness👍🏻:
Meet Taylor, a astronaut stranded on a moonlike planet. He is a terrific science student who's number was pulled at a science fair and he was chosen to go on a spaceship. He was six days from landing when the ship crashed. He does not know how it did, but he at least manages to crawl into an escape shuttle. He crashes yet again in his shuttle and contacts you, the closest earth being to him. You communicate and talk, all the while you making life or death decisions for Taylor. Taylor also has a sort of.... Personality. He is halarious at times, others he is a freak show of frights. He can make your skin prickle or your heart warm.
So will you kill Taylor with your decisions? Or will you help him survive..... And possibly get back home?

Was skeptical at first

With this being the first text based game I've ever played I was skeptical if a text game could hold my interest. Boy was I wrong. This game is so well written and thought up it doesn't even feel like a game. It feels like I'm chatting with an actual lost astronaut. I'll admit there had been times where I made a decision and then became worried that I him in danger.
The character has such a personality you actually grow to like them. I've caught myself chuckling a few times and smiling at jokes. And then I've caught myself reading in horror as I may have made a decision that could get him killed. There's definitely a mix of every emotion in this game.
Got this game on sale for .99 cents and was worth every penny easily. I never write reviews, but I thought this gem deserved one. I'd almost call it an interactive book.

Am I to assume that there will or will not be a rescue ship?

I've just made a decision about where to rest for the first night and then it hit me - what am I playing for? Does this astronaut have any chance of being saved or is he too far out? No matter how he dies it will be uncomfortable, whether due to hypothermia or ARS. I have a feeling that the astronaut does know whether or not there is a possibility of rescue from another ship. If not a chance of rescue, then either death by starvation, hypothermia, or ARS is going to be aweful so in that case I'd sit him next to the reactor no matter how many rads it was pumping out. On the other hand, if there is a chance of rescue then I'll take my chances with my decision to try to suffer with a temp drop and hope that the suit can retain enough heat energy. I'd have asked the astronaut this question off of the bat to find out what I'm looking at here- survival or most comfortable way to drag out the inevitable death. Come on "three minute games"

Huston in the blind, Do You copy?

At first glance this would appear to be just a branching text based story game, but after waiting in real time for a response that may or may not come adds a whole new level of realism.
Are You prepared to assist in another humans survival? Without seeing or hearing them? Do you have the wear withal to know what the right call will be? Are you going left or staying put? These questions and more are consistently running through your mind as you are constantly second guessing yourself with every break in communication.
Lifeline is a very interesting game and I've enjoyed it so far, the story does and will pull you in if you allow it to. The subtle background music sets a tone of constant unknowing that never seems to go away. The story seems to break and wait in real time giving you almost a subconscious connection to the Main Character wondering if your choice was the wrong one.
All in all I am enjoying the game and look forward to my next communication with Taylor, I sure hope he's still alive.
