I have been using this app for over a year and the quality is amazing. It has everything you need to create a professional storyboard. After updating the app, I could no longer find a feature I used but after contacting customer support I got a response in less than 20 minutes! I don't usually leave reviews but I was so pleased with the service and their professionalism deserved to be recognized. I am very satisfied with this app and it is a must have for filmmakers. Update 3.0.1: App finally operated again with 3.0. Now with 3.0.1, the app itself does not even open.

Update 2.6: Nothing has changed (5s 9.3.4). Freezes on "Loading project..." and need to be connected to the Internet to use the app.

Update: Now even 2.5.4 freezes on "Loading project...". On top of that, just discovered that you now need to be connected to the Internet to use the app. Developer not up front about that in her description.

Ever since 2.5.1 and now 2.5.2, app gets stuck on "Loading project..." The only way to get out of this is to close and restart, only to have it freeze again. Developer asks for offending file (for which there is none as the app won't even open let alone save) and then no longer replies to help.

I love this app. But after updating to the latest version the app is just under a GB in size. Just nuts...

I am so glad the premium thing has been removed. I hope the next update has it where you can add video as a background and add more game models. There's a problem with animating the vehicle wheels and the big dinosaur ,there is no way to animate the wheels on the automobiles or make the dinosaur move. I hope they fix that too. Other than that ,this app has great potential. Keep up the good work guys.

If you take the time to learn everything this app can do, it will really impact the way you approach storyboarding. Besides basic blocking of scenes, I like that you can keyframe actor engagements and camera movements. I was able to recreate a small forest scene for an upcoming feature film after doing a location scout with the director's and producer. They were amazed at how similar the app allowed me to recreate the space.

EDIT: Update fixed everything! PREVIOUSLY: I did love this. But since the update I no longer see the bodies of the people (just faces and hands) and when I add new people they are COMPLETELY invisible. So.... right now this app is totally useless and has frozen my ability to storyboard in mid-project. I'm reminded of an important lesson: DON'T UPGRADE SOFTWARE IN MID-PROJECT!

I bought this originally on my laptop and found it difficult to navigate so I thought I would switch over to my iPad only to find out I would need to pay another $40. Surprising because apps like photoshop don't require a double purchase. Since it is for work I purchased it again. It was okay at first. Hard to learn and would crash about every 30 minutes. It now crashes every 30 seconds. I would gladly continue to use this app if I could actually use it. If it was $10, fine but at a total of $80 I will be seeking a refund for at least one of the purchases.

Call it my own fault of not exploring the in-app purchase, but I had expected full functionality for 40USD, and not expected to enter also a premium monthly payment as well.

UI far from intuitive and the app is slow even on an iPad Pro...

Can't recommend this app, unfortunately there are no real alternatives.

Great app for previz! Super simple. Love it! Definitely worth the price tag.

I have tried several, this one is jampacked. Quite intuitive too. My 12 year old son had a new scene put together in 10 minutes.

The program has become unresponsive after an hour of usage. I'm running latest Apple firmware on iPhone 6s Plus, and while I love the idea and had high hopes, it simply doesn't hold up for professional use. I want to give five stars, but must give 1 for its in-usability.

This app can be huge, especially with the advent of the iPad Pro. I'm super thankful that it exists, but it still needs a lot of features in order to compete with FrameForge. I have high hopes.

I wish I could get my money back. No Manual. No copy or duplicate functions. No real lens size. No Undos. Hard to select objects. 30 dollars is a lot to get only a half-developed.

Its asking me to pay $30 to update the app! Then why did I pay in the first place?

ShotPro is an incredible tool for filmmakers and cinematographers. I used it on my latest short film (Gala) and the cast and crew loved it. It's simple and intuitive and very affordable compared to other previs programs. The developers have been very supportive of the community and they've even implemented several of my suggestions in the latest update. If you want to take your filmmaking skills to the next level, check it out!

Anyone who wants to up their preproduction this app is a must! It has helped me and the crew to all be on the same page. I use this for making my storyboards and to help articulate camera movements with the DP and actors. I seriously love this app! Very intuitive and user friendly.

If you intend to use this app on both Mac and iPad you have to purchase TWO separate licenses...... I had no idea, and sadly had to purchase this twice as I have no intention of using this app on my Mac. Wish I could be refunded for my Mac version some how...... I just lost $32 :(

Absolutely great way to get stuff done before you start shooting, hell I even used this unity powered app to pre-visualize a game cutscene.

Five stars! What really gets me excited is that they actually got the update out in a timely manner. Lots of requests and this update is solid progression! Watch out! Previz has changed

WOW! Literally couldn’t be happier with the update. It is much cleaner and the gyro control makes the app 10X more efficient! Would like to see a slider for camera lens changes while using the gyro to frame up the shot. I like the little slider bar but it would be faster if I could simultaneously do it. I will pay for more props! I want more!!!

I just finished storyboarding my first short film using the new 1.5 update and the changes made to the app are incredible! The new gyro camera control made framing quick and easy! I can now name my projects instead of having to search. Not to mention, I am now prompted when I want to delete something, which makes my life a lot easier! Finally, the new UI looks professional and clean making ShotPro easy to navigate. That being said, I think this app is well worth the $30. It is clear that the developers have a strong understanding of the importance of storyboarding, which is refreshing to hear as a filmmaker. I encourage other filmmakers to give ShotPro a try, you won't regret it!

UPDATE:

The more I try to use this the more I realize it's pretty bad. Only one of each character type can be loaded into a scene; for instance if you need two soldiers (one of the included characters), you can only add one. If you need another you'll have to choose an entirely different character.

The documentation, available only on the company's website, is still sorely lacking in completeness and clarity.

I can't say for sure, but it appears the company has stopped supporting this. My advice to you is to steer clear of this app. Even if it was free it would be overpriced.

Nice, but not quite ready for prime time. I'll only go into areas I think need quick attention by the developers.

1. Documentation is sparse, apparently incomplete, and only available online.

2. Photo-based texture maps on walls and buildings disappear as they're rotated away from the camera, leaving only the outline of the object.

3. Walls can't be resized. You can but them together or stack them for bigger walls, but you can't make them smaller.

4. It doesn't seem that there's a precise way to specify dimensions or locations. The closest that's possible is approximate resizing by finger-swiping, but it would be helpful to have a way to enter numbers.

5. This a nice-to-have item but not essential. Depth of field can be previewed but it's not accurate, just an approximation. If we could enter a camera sensor size, frame aspect ratio, lens focal length and aperture, we could get a much better simulation.

There are some features that are nice, but in my opinion are far from essential, like controlling character expressions. I'd happily give up character details in exchange for the other things I mentioned.

I want to like this, but I don't think it's worth $30 - yet. In fact, there are other shot-planning apps that have fewer features but are free. I'll be anxiously awaiting updates for this though.

First off may I say that the developers are great guys and very sincere. They respond quickly to comments, recommendations and questions. As for the app itself, it has been a long time coming that an app such as this has been available to the independent filmmakers out there who need an on the go way of storyboarding in a visceral way. The app is very intuitive and it's ease of use requires little to no learning curve to be able to board your ideas. You can go from a standard single storyboard idea to an actual story video-board that is exportable for anyone to see your project start to come to life. It contains options like lighting controls, backgrounds that are also importable, a multitude of characters and props to choose from. The camera and lighting options, that may I add, are keyframable and incredibly helpful to set up shots so that you can visualize and prepare for days on set. Aside from the larger storyboarding programs out there, this is a blessing. I use it everyday to pre-plan projects while I'm on the go. The Ipad and Iphone accessibility is a huge asset. I am waiting for the update to add more to this already great app. Hopefully a desktop version and live edit version will be in the works so that we can share with others working on the same project that will ultimately be the app of the century that no filmmaker can do without.

Why can’t I use this app on Mac book?

The app is could be amazing but I have huge problems with exports. I can export it the app shuts down every time. Second issue is crop so preview in app is different than in exported video. I wish it's gonna be improve soon because it's going to be very solid and good app.

I would have paid $100 for this amazing filmmaking tool. Cinemek is obsolete and even shot designer has received a run for its money. Just by taping you can key frame your talent and camera or each respectively. Watch the youtube clips and reviews. The dev. has a tutorial for each amazing feature the app offers. I am astounded. You no longer need friends to act as stand-ins.

Being that it can be used for different fields such as movie sets, commercials, and live performance. I hope there will be more props to apply towards view for the Directors and Actors.

I really love this app for figuring out my shots before shooting. My biggest annoyance, however, is that I can't rearrange the storyboards. Once I have a scene set up, I want to be able to move to another set then come back to this scene. But, as it is now, I'd have to recreate the scene after changing the set up. It'd be great to move on to a new scene, then duplicate the previous setup and move it after the new scene.

Besides that, it'd also be amazing to be able to turn objects, especially cameras, a full 360degrees instead of it stopping and not letting me rotate further.

I am new to film making and trying to make my my first short and this app is a great help. It allows me to plan and see the shots very easily.

I do wish there were more help options and videos and a way to make longer scenes.

It would be great if characters could look over their shoulders. You have characters silhouetted and if characters could hold microphones, guitars eat for music videos.

This app is awesome and exactly what I needed to pre-vis my short films. The ability to move the camera where you want and animate the "actors", control lighting and environment, is what really make this app stand out. My only complaints are you can't seem to load more than six of your own pics for your backgrounds. The ability to use the same "actor" more than once would be a huge plus. What if you have a shot with six policemen? The are just small things though. The app is incredible and worth every penny. For independent filmmakers, this app is invaluable.

I gave the previous version two stars because of the terrible terrible crashes. It looks like they've solved the memory issue. Haven't had a crash yet, even when I fill up the 50 shot limit. Even with several lights in non-draft mode, the program is fast enough, but I still prefer draft mode. It's definitely worth at least $20 as an app now. If they were to add modifiers to the lighting this would place it solidly as a $30 app. Overall, this update makes this app a solid product and I recommend it to indie filmmakers.

Besides other requests already posted, the ability to rearrange shots/scenes in the folders is a must.

I usually do most of my boards using frameforge3D on my Mac Pro, this app is quite a rival to the desktop version of FF3D, especially the lighting feature. It took me a while and watching all the tutorials on Site but I got the hang of it and did a complete sequence on it.

It needs to be coupled with an editing program of course as this will give you the most tools you want to modify the sequences, re time them and add some music and effects.

Of course the cost is an issue but I think it's totally worth it.

I'm enjoying learning how to use this app. It's easy to use, and quite intuitive.

So far I have used this on two projects. It works as advertised and gets the point across to my crew and clients. Would like to see more characters and props or even maybe just objects like a sphere and or box that can be used for representation of whatever you want it to be. I've been following the forums on their website and their Facebook page. It looks like they see this as an issue and are going to address it. Almost there! 5 stars soon!
