Description

Improve your skills and become a cribbage expert! Cribbage classic has a number of settings that can help you to learn the best move for your situation and offer assistance if it notices that you are making a sub-optimal play. Or just play in fast mode where all counting is done for you and you get to simply focus on discarding and pegging. By tweaking the settings you can take this app anywhere from a lazy-thoughtless-time-waster game to a skill-sharpening-master-tutorial helping you to crush your next opponent. Statistics are also kept so you can see your average pegging score, your average hand score, and your average crib score! Also shows you a summary of all of the suboptimal plays you made at the end of the game and tracks your error rate over time so you can see yourself improving.
Cribbage Classic also has a "Discard Analyzer" bonus feature that can help you decide on the optimal discard to play given a particular cribbage hand. Analyzer shows you the minimum, maximum and average score for each permutation along with an in depth statistical analysis of all possible flip card results.

It's OK

For learning the game I believe it has a lot to offer. It will teach you how to hold and discard cards. The analyzer and hints can help you look at a hand with a different perspective. However, the best hand odds perspective isn't the same as strategy. For instance, if a player and the program are both close to pegging out your strategy may have nothing to do with a highest scoring hand. You are only looking to cross the finish line first.
I feel cribbage has one, if not the best balance of skill and luck required to win a card game. That makes it fun. This is a decent program although it does seem to get rather "lucky" at times. But what do I know, I've only been playing for over fifty years, and maybe it feels the same about me. The sound effects are a little dull and sparse. If they were brightened up it would add to the pleasure of playing it.

The only thing wrong with this game is it doesn't always score the crib correctly. If you have 4 cards of the same suit in the crib you should get 4 points for a flush. You only get the points if the turn card matches.

Fixed game

This game has become a complete joke at the pro level, how are you suppose to even have a chance at winning if the computer is constantly getting double and triple runs to your 2,4 and maybe 6 hands? Again the pro level gets to be impossible to beat since the hands that are dealt to you are a junk. Stop taking the fun out of the game!!! I think I might win 2 out of every 10 games at the pro level. So you get 1 star. Hands down the biggest load of crap this game is. The most rigged game ever. It's impossible to imagine the developer out there thought that this was cool when clearly the fun of the game is in the toilet.👎🏻
06/03/17 Well I'm done with this game clearly this game has taken a turn for the computer. After my initial review I figured I would have been answered it's become just about impossible to win at the pro level. F THIS GAME I'm getting another one cause the fun is totally gone from this one.

Good teacher, unfair player

Excellent teacher of the game for beginners with easy to understand directions and play, including scoring and a recap of mistakes. But once you learn, find another player as this one wins with no mercy way too many times. If you have made 2 to 5 point mistakes for example and the game still beats you regularly by 20 or more, there is an inherent unfairness to it. And that's at all levels.

Good Game, but I don't always agree with the computer's discards.

I find this game to be fun, and good preparation for a cribbage
Tournament. The automated scoring is nice, as sometimes it
will take me a few seconds in a game against humans to figure
Out all of the points in a big hand or crib. I haven't noticed any
Scoring mistakes either.
I almost always win at the easy setting. The intermediate
setting is much harder, and it's not always clear what the
differences are. Like other reviewers, I have doubts about
How random the game's random numbers are.
I have been playing cribbage for over twenty years, and I
also disagree with the computer's discard recommendations
At times.
In all, a good yet imperfect game, but free is always nice.

Thousands....

I've played probably 3 or 4 thousand games at the pro level . It's addictive enough that I periodically uninstall it. Those few who think it cheats either don't know how to play, or don't play enough games to have the odds take over. Once a few hundred games are played, I consistently stay around 59 or 60%. Of course it doesn't take into account defensive end play in its play evaluation. So what? Does the pro tend to play its cards in ascending order, giving you an ever so slight edge there? Sure. Nevertheless, a fine game, and a well crafted algorithmic opponent.

Nice for a returning player

This game has worked very well for me coming back after a 15-20 year hiatus. All the basic rules I knew are in play. I started with the easy version with hints to discard, and that was a helpful reminder, along with the post game review of suboptimal plays. I still trust my instincts, and when the game said my play was suboptimal I actually did extremely well in the game--even though I recognize that on the average my discard would likely not pay off overall in the long run.
I'm still finding my way back into the game and will rate again when I learn more. So far, this is really helpful and fun!

Great for beginners!

I am just learning to play Cribbage. This app really teaches you to play the game well. It tells you what to discard and if you know the basic scoring, you can start to understand why the helpful "Hint" button told you to discard or play that card over the others in your hand. The tutorial at the beginning helps you understand so much about how the game is played and scoring. The playing is quick and descriptive during play, walking you through the steps and scoring! Great looking app, no interference or waiting for the ads, loads fast, plays fast.

Educational without being overbearing

I love the critique and the end of the game. Tells you what hands were statistically sub-optimal. However, I wonder if it takes into account the board position when sometimes it makes sense to go for long odds because the game is out of reach otherwise. Only change I would like to see is the option to see the optimal throw right after the hand. Possibly also a critique of pegging. Absolutely terrific as it is. Fast play really sharpens my skills for live play.

Computer always discards after you?

It's a decent cribbage game but there are some big frustrations. First is the computer always discards to the crib after you do. I don't trust that since there are just too many perfect discards on their part. There are cheats to the game once you figure it's strategy. Most of the time it tries to draw you into trips "always". Which is a very odd and telling tale that the computer knows your hand. For example you get to know cards the computer generally like to lay first, unless it has a pair and you have the same card. It always lays that paired card down so you fall into its trap of laying to get 2 points and it get 6. But never lays that card if you have a pair and you discover at the end of the hand it also had a pair but doing so would result in 12 points for you. Very suspicious of the programming of this app. It doesn't appear random.

Fun

Fun game, I play just for fun. The counting is accurate. The machine says place a "hard" here instead of card. A button to press for each step in the counting would be nice. My mom is 80 and she loves cribbage, but can get lost in the counting so this game could help her learn, but she would need to be able to see each step in the counting at her own speed.
Update: the game seems to have a problem of some kind. I would think it near impossible for the computer to have 4 consecutive 16 to 24 point hands. Once maybe, but to encounter it game after game is very frustrating and the computer doesn't give me hands like that. To frustrating, game has been deleted from my iPad. I went an downloaded the game again and it seems to be running normally, go figure.

Spectacular game play and teaching tool

I learned cribbage just this year but hesitated to play online because it seems that games are always set for computer and not truly random. Not so with this game. As a beginner I find the play analytics very helpful. But as in all card games one must also consider gut instinct. Still it is a great tool to review my choices on those hands where I look at the cards and have no clue as to which way to play. The game seems to play flawlessly, including correct counting of points. Display is clean and easy to see even for old eyes like mine. The simplicity of the 'score counter' is so much better than a peg-board. Thank you for this app

Excellent game

Tried many cribbage apps, but this one is the best. 100% count accuracy. Whoever mentioned that its not, definitely does not know how to count.
I would like to listen to music please while playing the game. Also (I feel stupid for mentioning this) it says "Drop 2 hards here" is misspelled and should say cards. The other thing is it should have "random" difficulty level so its more of a realistic game, just like you're playing with real cards. No sense to always make it difficult (pro) or super easy.

Nicely done!

I really like this game. Too bad it appears to be no longer supported.
I like the discard analyzer. It's kind of interesting how it works!
But sometimes, especially near the end of the game, I'm more interested maximizing my score rather than maximizing the difference between my score and the opponent score. It would be nice if that could be user selectable - max score or max difference.
Also, when calculating crib score in the analyzer, it only takes into account the 2 cards I throw plus the cut card. But that's not realistic, especially if for instance I were to discard a pair of 5s into the crib. It would analyze the crib to a max of 8 points due to a 5 cut. But that would have a low likelihood - a one in 23 chance. But imo there is a strong possibility that there will be more than 8 in the crib due to 5s or 10 point cards discarded by opponent. I think full 5 card crib analysis would be more realistic. But of course it would be very computationally intensive. It may have been a design trade-off to make the game possible.
But my biggest wish is that I could play live against a friend!
But with no updates in a couple years, I assume I'll never be able to play with friends :-(

A great app

I haven't seen any scoring errors-A flush in the crib has to be a five card one(even says it in the tutorial). The optimal scoring does subtract any points you give to the crib, so it might not match what you score, but more accurately matches the best play AND discard.
I have noticed the strange cards the computer gets when you start winning. I found a solution...restart the app after every game. Somehow it restarts the "random" generator from biased cards. I win around 70% of my games at pro level. And I don't cheat and restart games I'm losing. Try it.
I do agree that the optimal play numbers get screwed at the end of close games, but I'd rather lose and keep a small average than get a spike on my graph:)

Great, But Little Difference Between Easy And Standard

Overall, a clean, straightforward, and enjoyable app. The suboptimal discard analysis and other customization features are a nice bonus. One critique: the "Easy" gameplay mode does not appear to follow the discard and pegging rules laid out per the description (random pair for discard and random valid card for pegging). Far more often than not, the computer has hands equivalent in value to the "Standard" mode and will always peg for points as opposed to a truly random play. If "Easy" were actually random, an experienced player would always win by a wide margin, except for an exceptionally poor bout of luck. Other than that minor programming gripe, the app is a winner.
Fish Vandalism
Version 1.0.1
2017-03-01

Post game analysis

Not that helpful. I find the analysis ignores basic strategic discards. For example, when choosing between different discard options I will always consider the crib. I don't believe the analytics takes the crib into account, or at least not in combination with the hand. So if I accept a slightly lower % hand for a much higher % crib, it won't take that into account. Nor does it consider pegging strategies. I will sometimes save cards with better pegging potential near the end of a game when my opponent is counting first and may go out. If the only way to win is to peg out, you must think differently. Keeping the most points in your hand may not be the best option.
But overall, I like the game action. It is tough at the pro level and the game seems to be played fairly. It also seems that the card distribution is truly random. Other games I have played do not always seem random.

Seriously?

Went ahead and played 10 pro games. I won the deal 2 out of 10 times and won only 2 games.
Dear developer. Level the playing field and to prove it show us the dealers stats alongside ours. Make the same suboptimal data available and add outcome stats for both optimal and suboptimal hands for both players...
Hahahahaha like you would bother to listen.
I have been playing cribbage for nearly 50 years and have NEVER seen a player hit so many 10+ hands every game.
When I do hit a big hand 14, 16, or up the dealer usually has 2-4 less points. The inverse, dealer hits the same hands and I nearly always have 6-10 points less.
Playing on standard I win more then I lose but only because I play against what I suspect the computer is doing on any given deal. Keep in mind your real opponent hardly ever, when given 7/2 for their crib, is able to turn it into 12 points, happens here a lot.
What I don't get is what purpose could be served by writing the game in such a manner that it will turn a good player into bad if they let it train them.
Sad, and deleted.
Don't bother if your a real player!

Excellent straightforward cribbage app

I decided I wanted to get a cribbage app for solo play and I tried a bunch of the different ones available on the App Store. This was by far the best interface and least commercial of them. Other apps had vaguely nicer boards, but pestered you with in-app purchases or challenge modes to unlock things, while others had "fun" interfaces, but annoying graphics. For those looking for a simple, elegant cribbage app for solo play, this is the perfect choice. Obviously, those seeking an online multiplayer cribbage game will need to look elsewhere.
My only suggestion would be to allow me to pay 1.99 to turn off the ad banner at the bottom of the screen. The banner is small enough that it doesn't stop me from recommending this app, but now that this has become my go-to cribbage app, I'd happily pay to remove it.

Fantastic practice opportunity!

My friend just taught me how to play cribbage earlier this week. I immediately searched for an app to practice on and better learn the game so that we can play each other in person without her having to walk me through the steps and explain small things and minor rules to me anymore. This is a great practice opportunity and I am already gaining a better understanding and increasing not only my skills as a player but also my critical and logical thinking skills! My favorite part is that I can see my statistics and suboptimal plays to know where I go wrong.

Not bad, about as good as you can expect.

I enjoy cribbage quite a bit. This game has actually ruined non-live cribbage for me though. I play at a high level, and beat the "pro" setting about 55-45 from day 1, so I'm not slouch. But after about 100 games, I have absolutely had it with the cut cards being god-like for the computer. Double runs every hand. The last cut I got too frustrated with was A hand of 779J for them, and they cut 8 ON SUIT with their jack. These cuts happen about 4 times a game, so just be prepared. Functionally, the game works great though. So I did enjoy it for a while until I had been wrecked by so many cut cards.

One of the better ones, but still flawed

Good game, and fun to play. Only "complaint" is, as others have mentioned, the AI on PRO is unrealistic. Not only does the AI get an unreasonable amount of 16+ hands, the amount of times that this comes about due to a "fortunate" turn card is a preposterously regular occurrence. Also, I have experienced multiple occasions where I have been dealt the same cards on consecutive hands (as today, three face cards, a 3 and two Aces three hands out of four!!!!). These algorithmic "glitches", although irritating, somewhat increase my pleasure at beating PRO (particularly a skunk) as I feel as though I've beaten it with.....excuse the wholly intentional pun.....'the cards stacked against me'!

Great cribbage app

I was the second best cribbage player in the world before I got a hold of this app....now IM THE BEST!!! .... JUST KIDDING but all kidding aside 1 it's an amazing app ... Very realistic I have to confess I play this game constantly and it always counts the cards correctly. I can count cards in my sleep and this has always done very well counting. The sub optimal plays don't take into account everything as others have pointed out but for a beginner or intermediate level player it's very helpful... At the pro level I don't pay attention as much or it drives you batty :)

Good game play Pro level has issues

I have been playing cribbage for over 40 years so I understand how to play and how card games are based a lot of times on how lucky you are during the deal. I play the Pro level and it's just unrealistic on how often the computer gets dealt good cards, wins the cut, or gets a beneficial card on the cut after the deal so I started tracking it.
After 15 games only once did I win the initial cut and the computer averaged 11.9 points per hand where I averaged 7.8. I would get my hands but usually immediately followed by a 2, 4 or 0 to let computer back in. Computers crib average 7.1 to my 4.2.
I did win three of those games with one skunk so if you consider how bad the computers cards were during those games they were well above the 11.9 average on the other 9 games. (I would end up with very few less than optimal plays with most of them me sluffing off hand for a chance at a bigger crib or to not give computer a bigger chance of hitting big in crib)
That being said I still really like the gameplay but was just expecting on pro level to have computer make fewer optimal play errors vs winning the deal almost every game, and getting the better cards during the deal.

Pure Trash

This app. Is no better than any other when it comes to dealing fair hands. Unbelievable runs time after time for the opponent. When playing the pro level the developers should be embarrassed at the number of double runs dealt to opponent. I have never seen anything close to these hands in many years of playing cribbage. This game should not be offered by Apple apps. Pure trash.
Think it might be good for someone just learning the game. To follow up here is an example:
In on game a total of 9 hands the opponent had 5 hands of double runs for a total of 99 points. Believe this is not uncommon!!!
Do not down load this trash as it is nowhere near a regular cribbage game, in fact it may have a negative affect on your real card game because it is no where near real cribbage. I must repeat PURE TRASH!

Superb

Truly superb Cribbage. No frills just excellent play on Pro setting. The Sub-optimal play feature is fascinating and instructive. A minor point to an otherwise flawless performance: the program does not recognize discarding for the sole purpose of pegging out (or avoiding getting skunked): Prime example: A-2-3-3-J-Q player needs 2 points to win but counts last. Opponent needs 5 points with hand and crib. The worst thing to keep is A-2-3-3. Game declares. The keeping of one or two face cards as sub-optimal when it is required to have the best chance of pegging out. Nitpick only. Bravo for the best Cribbage game app on the market.

So glad I found this app 👍🏼👍🏼

This app has much to recommend it: Nice graphics, multiple levels of play (that really ARE distinguished by the "quasi-AI" ability to count cards and calculate probabilities), and helpful tips to improve strategy (including the suboptimal ratings, and also the "best discard" assessment). For me, the ads are thoroughly unobtrusive, unlike many of my favorite free-to-play games. And I've found the "pro" level more than sufficiently challenging - it's almost like playing my cribbage-whiz friend back in college all over again. Kudos, and thanks for the great entertainment!

Good not Great

All in all this is a pretty good cribbage game. On the pro setting the computer plays well and the counting, for the most part, is accurate. There are a few significant flaws which keep it from getting five stars however:
1. The game will miss the occasional flush. It does not happen often, but it does happen. For the reviewer who wrote earlier that you need five cards, that is incorrect. A four card flush in your hand should still give you four points.
2. The discard analyzer is straight up wrong sometimes. When looking at what the minimum and maximum score are, it gives you incorrect information so it is hard to trust to discard analytics at all. For example, a hand of 7788 has a minimum score of 12, however, the discard analyzer gives it a minimum score of 10.
3. The incidence of huge scoring hands is completely out of line with reality. The computer gets hands of 20+ points far often than it should and I have even gotten many more than I would if I played that many games in reality.
All in all, it's still a fun game, but 4 stars is as high as I'd go. I'm not complaining; after all it's free. However, if you play enough games the minor flaws are a little irritating.

Great Cribbage Game but wish it had more intermediate levels

I love this game and play it a lot at the Pro level. However, in introducing my wife to Cribbage, she's found it too easy at the Easy level (she always wins) and overly challenging at the Standard level. It would be nice if there was a level in-between. I love the Statistics feature of the app and the sub-optimal play reviews. What I'd really like to see at the Pro level (probably the other levels as well) is an option to enter your estimated score for your cards and your crib, then record in statistics where your estimate was wrong. Still - this is a GREAT app - kudos to the developers!

Well done game with a lot of great features.

Looks to me like the game keeps it's deck in ascending order, a tell that my grandpa would surely exploit!
There is one feature that I'd really love to have however. As soon as anyone pegs out or counts out, the game sweeps everything away and asks you what you want to do next. I'd really like to see the crib and all of the cards that are still face down. In other words, finish the hand. We used to play penny a point, points being how much you lost by on the board, and all of the points still in your last hand. (I dunno why, family tradition i guess).
The animated ads are really distracting, I'm taking back one star for those.

Cribbage

This is a good app for learning how to play the game. I think it manipulates the cards to accomplish that. I sense trends in how hands are dealt and because you are playing essentially against a computer it has total control over how the game plays out based on your moves how you play the game and how you look at their examples of what would be the better choice in your crib selection and pegging points. For me it is also slow in how the cards are not dealt fast enough. It can't beat playing with real cards and real people. No computer manipulation there. But then this again is designed to offer you council on how to improve your game. What I need is an app simply to ply the game. Not sure it exists.

Drop 2 hards here

Other than that typographical error, which is surprisingly annoying; I really like this version of the game. The statistics help you learn the discard that will most likely be best. There is a similar analysis for pegging, but it only accounts for the each play, not how you set it up... For example it wouldn't be a suboptimal play to start with a 5, but only a fool does that. Likewise, you may intentionally not select the optimal hand to facilitate better pegging,
particularly on the last hand of the game where you know you just need to peg a few points but will never be counting your hand.
Standard mode is easy, if you make good statistical choices you should win over 75% of your games. In Pro, the computer starts to make good choices as well, but seems to lose out in pegging by not thinking far enough ahead, so you can still win well in excess of 50%.

Not bad...

Played pro level, 50 games on my iPad and 50 on my iPhone...simple aesthetic except for the ad strip and the hurricane of cards at the end of the game...dealer gets amazing cuts but it balances out, won 55%... What would make it more enjoyable: 1) turn all cards face up at the end of a game, see America Cribbage Congress rules before reshuffling , 2) under settings have an option to continue playing multiple games without having to select the level, then cutting etc., ...when a game is over, ask 'Would you like to play again?" This is also covered in the ACC rules for tournament play. Overall, easy to play without a lot of glitzy clutter...best layout is on iPhone play...

Great game

It's been a while since I've played cribbage. My daddy taught me to play on this really cool Jack Daniels whiskey barrel slat made into a cribbage board he picked up when we were on vacation in Durango, Co many years ago. Since he's passed I've had no one to play with. I decided to refresh my memory with this game with getting my counting and deciding which cards to throw in the crib etc. I count on my own before the computer does to see if I'm doing it right or missed any points. Happy to say it's like riding a bike. This app is awesome and my go to game. Wish I could pause it and start back up where I left off when real life calls. Other than that, I see no flaws, no problems. Thank you for making such a fun game free!

Fun game, well designed

Found this a few months ago and been playing against the computer. Have not seen errors that others reported, maybe they had an earlier version. I like to count my own cards, and check the computer's hand. I like the odds at the end, but don't know how they are calculated. Sometimes it appears the computer gets some incredible draws and crib cards, but maybe my imagination. I would like to have the option of undo, as I have played too quickly at times and wanted to take it back, but no option for that. I would recommend if you like to play the best two person (person/computer) you can play.

Love that I found this game!

My dad and I used to play cribbage or some card game every Sunday afternoon. Now I'm trying, after over 50 years of not playing, to get back to remembering how to play. It's coming back, but I still need to figure out in my own head why some discards are better than others when its opponents crib. I do think this game will help me relearn that. I can pretty consistently beat computer on easy mode but haven't advanced any further yet. Thanks for a fun game that brought back lots of memories!

Great game

This is my first review ever because I really like this game and I think the developers put a lot of good thought into designing their app. I played a couple other cribbage apps before settling on this one.
The counting is very clear and gives you the option to manually or automatically count your cards. My favorite feature is that at the end of each game it tells you your sub-optimal moves and how many points you could have scored on average with the best possible move. It's really fun to try and improve my playing ability.
Maybe I'll be able to give (insert female elder name here) a run for her money!

Eh.

Iv been playing cribbage for over 25 years and bet I could beat any properly programmed computer. Unfortunately, the only difference between the beginner and pro level is that the computer gets more 15's, primary with 5's. In beginner, I got 5's in almost every hand and didn't get one during my first pro game. The points scored were no more difficult in the pro game, the computer just stacked the deck in its favor. The other thing that is obvious is that the computer gives out way more runs then Iv ever seen in a real game. All the cards were in line. It also allows for runs during pegging that are not in order. Not true for the rules of cribbage. If cards were actually given out randomly it would be a good game but it's really easy to spot a stack deck and non randomness in this app.

Music

I love the app. I manually count cards on the pro level and it helps for when I play in real life. Already see myself becoming a better cribbage player. A couple suggestions though. Multiple game modes with different handed cribbage. In my family we play 4 handed cribbage and it's different strategy so add multiple game modes. Also I hate how you can't play music while in the app. I would like to be able to play music and play the app at the same time but it doesn't allow me to at all which is a nuisance especially since there is no really sounds that the game portrays. Overall a great app but could become one of the better card game apps if these couple things are adjusted.

Standard card game flaws

Started playing this game in "standard mode", and found it to be too easy. Changed to "pro", and found that the only change is, the opponent gets better hands regularly. Also gets cuts, and you won't. You will get skunked often. This is the same type of flaw, as other card games have. The only way they can make it harder, is to give you worse hands. They need to work on "randomly" dealing cards, and try to give the "game" more skill. Anyone can win if you just keep getting good hands. This game is good, if you are just trying to learn, or get in a little practice. But don't think it is preparing you to take on live card players.

Best Cribbage App

I have used this app a long time and it has never mis-counted or missed a flush (perhaps people forget that in crib all 5 cards mist be the same suit). The sub-optimal critique is helpful, but does not always take game situation. For instance, near the end of the game if I am trying to prevent my opponent from pegging in, I will not double during counting, to prevent him from tripling - but it will tell me that was a sub-optimal play - in reality it was good cribbage. In addition, the sub-optimal play critique takes into acpunt what it does to another player's hand. So if you discard a pair to another player's crib and have seven left in your hand - it makes for a total of 5. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the game plays well. Only hangup is if you accidently play a card out of turn while pegging. Goofs it all up and you have to start over. Should not even allow for this.

Great Game!

Really a fantastic app. The gameplay is smooth, the graphics are nice, the suboptimal play analysis adds a nice touch. AI difficulties are great too!
To those who say that it doesn't count cards accurately, it absolutely does. Each time it counts my hand, I recheck it to make sure that it properly rewards me points, and each time, I'm pleased. If you're saying it doesn't count flushes consistently: Flushes in the crib don't count, and flushes that were created using the flip (you have three hearts in your hand, and a heart is flipped up, making four) are not included either. These rules apply to flushes in real life as well. :)
There are only two flaws I see in this game, both of which are nominal.
1. It'd be nice to listen to music while using the app. Maybe I can't figure out how to, but I turned off sounds in the Cribbage app and it still doesn't work.
2. When you're discarding cards to put in the crib, it says "Drop two hards here" instead of "cards."

Cheerio, Mate!

Before I write this, let it be said that I am not British. I have never even been to England. Even so, I enjoy this game, even though it is British. For real though, challenge an British person to this game. One of three things will happen: 1) They will run away and/or call the cops (if they are a stranger) 2) Have no idea what you are talking about (if they are Stupid and British) 3) Laugh and say that you don't have a chance (If they are actually British.) Challenges aside, let's get to the App itself. Incredible. Realistic coffee table, realistic cards, and a non-realistic chance of losing on easy. Super high-quality and easily worth 6.49£, (because it is British) but it is free. Get it. It may not be free forever. And with no in App purchases, it ROCKS!

Good Cribbage App with a couple minor issues

I really like this app. The graphics, layout and playability are all great. I have found the hints to be very helpful. The suggestions aren’t always optimal from an overall strategy point of view, but they do show the highest scoring play for the current situation.
I have found two issues that make the computer very beatable:
1) The AI sorts its cards after the discard. The cards are laid out on the table from lowest to highest from left to right. No good cribbage player would do this. It gives the opponent too much information.
2) The computer tends to play its cards from lowest to highest. With the exception of leading with a five, the computer starts with its lowest cards and works up. If the computer leads with a 3, you know you are safe to play a 10 because the computer will not have a 2. As the count approaches 31, the computer usually has played all its low cards and it is easy to get a “go”.
Overall, I have enjoyed this game, but now that I found the flaws and can consistently beat it, it has lost it’s charm.

Best Cribbage App

Like always in reviews of games I see a fair number of those challenging the AI. All I can say is that I see no flaws. I've always played the Pro level and the games are challenging. Don't get too hung up on the suboptimal play analysis because one thing it doesn't take into consideration is sluffing. Just a small strip at the bottom for adds that doesn't incumbent gameplay or the look of the app is acceptable in my book. The people who say it doesn't count the cards right obviously don't know how to count cribbage hands because it counts hands right every time, 100% correct. I use the option to count manually and it gives you great practice for real games. I'd suggest those people that claim the app doesn't count cards right use that option because they need the practice. The only flaw that has been an inconvenience is that there is no way to pause a game in progress. Your game might have stopped if you step away for a period of time. The good thing though is that it doesn't register a loss in your statistics when that happens. Overall the best cribbage app hands down.

Great Cribbage game

This is a very realistic game, even at the pro level. The easier levels are fine and the pro level is only different in that the hands are more difficult to figure out what to do with. The pro does not seem to have an obvious advantage unlike other games I've played. Feedback allows you to recognize your mistakes and learn to improve your play.
I am revising my review. Ignoring that the numbers of pairs the computer is able to get during play is beyond belief, the game has two other major flaws. It frequently, not always, does not count the points for a flush for either the computer or the player. Also, it does not count points correctly. I thought I was getting short changed on points and last night I confirmed that it only gave me 8 points for a 10 point hand. I would rate this lower if not for the excellent counseling on misplayed hands.

Very slanted to the computer

I have played crib for years and have never been consistently beaten as I have with this game. I don't mind losing as it is all about the cards you get dealt but after losing multiple in a row I really noticed a pattern that the computer seemed to more consistently get 10 plus point hands even 16 or better frequently while my hands were lucky to reach 10 once in the game. I also noticed I seemed to have very similar hands ie: almost identical poor hands in a row and after several games noticed that the computer seemed to be replaying the same awesome high scoring hands. A little frustrating when the fairness of dealing seems to taken out of the mix and it is stacked against an artificial intelligence.

Horrible AI

Easy difficulty is not fun at all... Normal difficulty is also too easy. Pro difficulty is the reason I give this game a 1 star. The AI seems to get 8-16 point hands every single hand. It isn't random cards with the pro AI picking the optimal cards... It's playing with the cards stacked against you. This is a horrible way to run an AI in a card game. Get the coding right such that the cards are random and not this pathetic attempt to make it seem like the pro AI is actually good. It just gets annoying because skill has nothing to do with the game at that point. If you look at what the AI discards... They frequently discard suboptimal cards implying that it appears the AI's cards created as the hand goes on. They don't get 6 random cards and choose the best from those. I like playing cribbage... Not this garbage. Better off going with a different app.

My go-to Cribbage game

I have played a LOT of cribbage in my life, and tried a lot of iOS Cribbage games, and this is the one that sticks. Plays well, looks good. Every time I have a minute or two in a line or waiting for someone I dash out a game. Few quibbles, none really detract from the game, just something for the author to look at to make it even better.: (1) Not quite fast enough in fast counting/pegging. Faster for us experts! (2) Opens a sound channel even when I have sound effects off, so I can’t listen to music while I play. Fix that. (3) Does not always remember game positions on pause/resume, so you’ll start a new game instead of continuing. (4) yes, I would pay $1 shareware to remove ads!

Make it stop!

This is a pretty good app for the most part. Fun, nice look, only light glitches, etc. But there's one thing I really don't like about it. I frequently have to exit the app before I finish a game because they can sometimes take a while. And almost without a doubt, my app starts the game over. Not every time, but perturbingly often. And it's super random about it too. Sometimes it'll let me pickup a hand right where I left off a day or two later. Then other times I'll accidentally let the screen go black for a minute and when I unlock my phone again it's started the game over. And it ALWAYS starts the game over if I'm winning and I don't have time to finish the game. Very annoying! PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!!

Great Game Play But Incorrect Analysis

I really enjoy playing this app. The game play is great. For the game play by itself, I'd give five stars. At the PRO level, the games are challenging and fun.
The problem comes with the game's analysis of suboptimal plays. Very frequently, the math is just wrong. Here's one example. I kept a 4-5-6-9 in my hand. The total points in that hand are 7 (2x15 for 4 and then a run of 3 for 7 total). However, the app said that the points for that hand were 5. There are other issues with the suboptimal analysis, but I won't bore you with the details.
I wouldn't normally make much of the flaws in the app if it weren't for the fact that you get a suboptimal analysis after every game. If the app is going to show you the error of your ways, then it should at least be correct. Otherwise, the game is very fun.

Excellent, and for Everyone!

I tried learning Cribbage twice, and I enjoyed it, but I kept forgetting how to play. Luckily, I was able to definitively learn how to play through this app! It's just what I needed: it has a simple interface, tells you how to play, and gives you great tips on strategies, even analyzing your sub-optimal plays! This is perfect for anyone who wants to play Cribbage at any level, whether you're a beginner like me who's learning the basics or a seasoned pro who wants to hone their skills. The games are only VS the AI, so you can't play friends, and all of the games are to 121 points, but it's great nonetheless. The best Cribbage App!

I have tried multiple Cribbage apps, and this is hands down the best out there! Great for advanced played and especially informative for beginners. The detailed scoring is good to see, unlike other apps that just say your points and move on. I also
enjoy the sub-optimal play counter. This turns out to be a little game in of itself to try to get that down to no errors. Another great feature is the discard analyzer, for those tough situations when you just don't know what to do. If you love Cribbage or want to learn, get this app!

Great for first-time cribbage players

Wife and I bought a handmade cribbage board at a yard sale. The included instructions were not easy to understand for first-time players. This app allowed us to learn the rules of the game, understand the turn-by-turn scoring and even dabble with the statistics of certain moves. Two suggestions for improvement: first, when receiving hints for which cards to place in the crib, can the game give a brief, layman's explanation for why? Secondly, build in functionality for two people to play against each other live on the same device. Other than that, this is a very well designed, user-friendly app!
