Excellent tool

I have enjoyed this app for years, and it continues to be one of the most useful tools I have for composing and studying chord progressions and voicings when away from a piano keyboard. Use it with the built in sounds for convenience, as a controller for other iOS music apps, or combine this app with the musicIO MIDI app, and a wired connection from iPhone or iPad provides a rock-solid, extremely low-latency connection for chord input to your computer's DAW. Brilliant.
The developer is accessible by email and is very responsive to bug reports—hence the recent update with a minor bug fix. The app has received many updates and improvements over time. Well worth the price.

Works great as a Chord Note Pad

My favorite feature of this app is how it can be used as a NotePad, pun unintended. You can record chords and return to them at a later date, to study, learn progressions or write songs. Awesome job! 👏🏽

Really want arrpegiator

Even for those of us without iPads ( and thus can't buy your other app) this app is still great. But frankly I would love to somehow compose my own harmony for each cord part within the app. For those of us who can't play an instrument ( but still want be inspired when we produce music) such a feature would be a god send. The strumming feature is just to haphazard, if my suggestions to ambitious at least implement some form of basic arrpegiation thanx.

What We Need:

- Ability to use external MIDI drum pads to play the pads.
- need to be able to use Ableton Link to play the chord progressions at a set loop length. Then preferably at some point have the ability to switch between different progressions. Say verse, chorus.
Otherwise a great app and worth the money. I really dig it. If you can solve these issues we could really have an amazing controller app here.

The ultimate on screen controller

I'm guitarist so adding keyboards myself can be a chore but this app has solved all my problems and much more. I like to compose with complex chord progressions. With this app I can build any chord I can imagine. Each pad can have 1 or 88 notes assigned. You can use the built in sounds or better yet send via core midi to any other app able to receive midi data. Plus you can set any pad to send midi controller data like modulation, pitch bend, and midi volume; it's virtually unlimited. Chordpolypad is incredibly versatile. I love this this and use on almost every track I create. I really can't imagine producing music with out it. It's a powerful musical tool, try it, you won't be disappointed.

EPIC.

It was awesome before with iPad Pro update, now it's epic. 64 Pad View, WOW!!!
I love making chord progressions while away from the studio using iPad synths or the beautiful built in sounds, then coming home to my studio and playing them on synths like U-he Diva or Massive. This is a real, beautiful, professional tool.

Excellent & Versatile

Lovely update. Lately using to simulate guitar to outstanding effect :) (If it didn't feel like cheating, I'd leave some of those tracks in place instead of recording the part on an actual guitar later)

Sad face

Update: I'm told there will be a patch in a week. Hopefully it fixes the iOS 5.1.1 issue and i can give it a 5.
Original: I'm sure this is awesome, which is why I purchased it. Crashes immediately on launch. Well technically the program stays active but screen wont come up. If i try to switch to the app it just "crashes" but stays in active apps. Hopefully I have some luck and don't need a new iPad for this. Every other App that supports iOS 5.1.1 runs fine for me. Oh well, been looking for a good chords app and this looked promising

Fantastic

As much as this app costs, it is worth every penny! No other midi/chord apps are as cohesive and easy to use as this! Connection and setup were a breeze. The chord pad presets are good, and the app is very responsive! This app is extremely good for inspiration. There aren't many extra features, like a quick playable piano roll, and I wish the chord previews were a bit easier to access. I also wish there was an easier way to map individual notes in a specific key to build a melody straight from the app. However, the app does it's job as a fantastic midi controller nonetheless and I'm confident the developer will include a lot more features in updates to come! A+ app!

One of my favorite apps.

I use it mainly as a midi controller wirelessly in my studio, but sometimes I use it in different ways. To come up with new progressions, or to program chords I don't want to play on piano which are easier to play with a single button. Works very well.

Wind Controller playing chords?

I had been looking for software, hardware or apps that could interface with my midi wind controller (WX11) and believe me this is the solution. It can be layered with other soft synth apps to produce some incredible music. I have this running on an iPhone 5 and will be moving to iPhone 6plus for the bigger screen and better battery for a truly mobil solution. Did I mention that product support was excellent? The developer was back to me within hours as I did have questions regarding interfacing with an external midi device. I get the impression that most IOS apps are geared toward the touch interface and many lack midi in capability. This one does both for an incredible price if you could find a solution like this one on a PC or Mac platform.

The Best Chord App in the Store

Got this app to help me figure out complex chord progressions on remixes when my keyboardist is not available. Now I find myself not being available when my keyboardist looks for me (joking of course). If you know a little about chords & progressions & you're not a keyboardist, this app is the way to go. Now since the new update that I ask Laurent to add the Dorian minor scale to & he did without any hesitation, It's winning all the way around the board. Maybe I'll ask for a small again & ask for ChordPolyPacks that will add presets for all genres. Great Stuff Laurent, Keep up the great work!!!

Worth it's virtual weight in gold

Worth it's virtual weight in gold. As apps4idevices put it, it's the best in its category? And what would I call that category... Not just pad category but instead that this app along with steppolyarp lets you cut out the fluff notes keeping things nice and simple and more harmonic.
This app is and steppolyarp are always on my main iPad screen because both with play any instrument. I put the instruments in a folder there's too many and it's like toys putting them away after we're done. Too much time into non-core production just leads to inefficiency. I produced 60 tracks first half of /014. It's one of my goals to fully unlock the performance potential of steppolyarps45 built-in arp switch when played on another arp sequencer, so 2x arp of arp was really amazing. 3x arp was sounding too complete.
Is there any possibility of adding a few more sounds, namely Alto sax and flute? Both sound beautiful and a bit sexy as instruments.
The reason being then I can fit in more othapps in the Audiobus , namely Animoog whicseems to be the hog of all memory and is very limiting yet sounds good.
Thank you

Powerhouse VirtualMIDI controller for chords, scales, and composition

The on-board synth sounds (about a dozen) aren't much, but this app excels at customization as a controller for other synths and MIDI compatible music apps. Not only is there a huge library of chords, but it recognizes and names chords as you combine notes on the keys. These chords (or single notes) can be mapped to individual pads, which are a great size on both iPad and iPhone. There's even additional x and y axis gestures for pitch and other effects. If you've ever used ThumbJam's control system, it's similar to that except you can put anything anywhere you need it. Long story short: it lets you control other music apps with dexterity and complexity that the apps themselves do not allow. It's not one of the cheapest virtual MIDI controllers, but it may be one of the best.
NOTE: Be sure to turn on "background" audio in the synth/music app you are controlling!

5 Stars ChordPolyPad.

Chordpolypad has one of the better-looking UIs that I've seen, with windows that detach and can be moved about the screen easily. The layout is intuitive and the app leaves a very small footprint while running. Everything is customizable. The features are useful (finally, a well-implemented strum) and virtual midi works perfectly. I'm excited to explore my old samples again. Beautiful app.

fabulous chording tool

This app is easy to use, with surprising depth once you're ready for it (I've only dug a little way and am already impressed), helpful and yet wide open letting me easily create, fine-tune, perform and record chord progressions. I use it with MIDI sounds almost exclusively, so can't say anything about the internal sounds, but the MIDI setup is clean and straightforward, and it plays nicely with StepPolyArp and Audiobus, which makes me very happy. Definitely a worthwhile addition to my musical toolbox.

I rarely write reviews...

…but since ChordPolyPad has dethroned Pro Chords as my go-to chord progression/MIDI compositional app, I thought Id add my own rave review. From my perspective, ChordPolyPad's feature set lets it clearly edge out Pro Chords, while ChordPolyPad runs circles around more limited apps like Chorion and Chordbot. I bought this app impulsively, since I already own more music apps than I ever use, but ChordPolyPad has clearly established itself as the best compositional iOS app I own.

Beautiful

Please add feature that will allow midi file (Type 0) import and/or ability to input chords per pad via keyboard controller. I'm hopeful with this being version 1, the bugs causing the app to crash will be taken care of ;-) Great app no doubt!

Powerful

I've been using the same developer's StepPolyArp for about a year. There are different ways to use his new app, but for playing synth pads it's unbeatable. It's easy to line up all of the chords in your song, and then set up the X-Y surface for expression. (For example: X can be velocity range and Y can be the mod wheel range.) So far my only suggestions are: (1) add Audiobus, (2) have an option so that, when you select a pad, the chord library starts with the pad's existing chord, (3) let the onscreen keyboard actually send MIDI notes. But this is already a five-star app.

This is a class act!

A very, very nice app for playing chords over MIDI to another app ( synth or recording DAW ). It does have some built in sounds too … but works *beautifully* to control other instruments ( as long as they are written well of course ).
Easy to use and configure … nothing to dislike.
As already mentioned AudioBus support would be good to control the transport of an iOS DAW ( Cubasis in my case ) since switching via the launcher is a bit fiddly.
I'd also love a strip under the pads to trigger scales / solos / passing notes . Maybe just use the existing keyboard! ???
But it's worth the purchase as is!!
