Since update the inter app sampling/recording function is no longer working. iPhone 6 Plus. iOS version 10.2.1. Reinstalled, still no go.

Great adaptation of a great piece of hardware. The only thing holding this back is lack of audio unit v3 support. I will bump the rating once this is added.

No sound comes out on my 5s and everything is working as it should sound is on and volume is up.. Want my money back or fixed asap!

I love that the MPC is on the iPhone. This app does everything that a MPC 2000 did, at a fraction of the price.

With impc I was able to show my son, he is 9 and has developed an interest in making music, how you can sample various instruments and create kits that can be used to make beats. It was a really cool experience and impc made it really easy to demonstrate the process for him. I was going to rate this four stars just for the fact that I couldn't figure out how to delete my unwanted samples. After emailing the retronyms team they showed me how to do it and it's not difficult, it could be easier but it's not too bad. I'm glad I bought this app. It's fun, functions well, and the fact that it helped me teach my kid something to keep him interested in music is just awesome.

MPC in your pocket. Nice sampling. Responsive on the pads.

This app is pretty tight for hammering out beats on the way home. I can make multilayered & full sounding grooves with it, edit them, then record it into my DAW when I get home. Great for when inspiration strikes and I'm away from my main setup.

I always have iMPC with me on my phone. Never know when inspiration strikes.

I've had this app for a few years and was never quite happy with it. I can't stress this enough, I'm not too happy the fact that the default drum kits are weak. Especially for hip hop ,we need better snares, kicks, hi-hats, shakers, you name it.My point is there is not many options for hip hop or other genres for that matter, we need hip hop samples too, something new,, most samples on here are primarily for pop and house music, which does not fit my taste. I'm not just speaking for myself, I'm speaking for many others too, keep in mind there are still people who use this app. Don't get me wrong, I love this app even though there have been inconveniences with bugs and crashes, just please take the time to add more drum kits, not just for hip hop but many other genres .I've had no problem with sampling songs and all but I never have any good drums to make a good beat with, most kicks and shares are weak and boring.People spent money on this for a reason, to produce good beats, but not everyone likes pop and house samples. And again please add more genre samples especially drum kits. I've seen the same ones since 2014 that's just sad. come on people something needs to change and people want something new, besides the old boring ones, Thanks for taking the time to read this.

This app does it all expect have a cloud feature but that's okay. Other than having a place to save all of your work, I would much rather appreciate if they allowed you to delete sounds you have made by recording from samples just to clear up space. That would be extremely handy. But as of right now it's the best app on the market of this kind

Very cool to have MPC technology on my iPhone. Real easy to use and has some kick to it once you plug into a sound system!

Bought this app for $3 installed and it keeps repeatedly crashing RIPOFFF DO NOT BUY I've had no luck after resetting my phone several times and even turned my data just to get passed the launch screen to at least get a glimpse of what I purchased WHATS GOING ON ???

To everyone wondering if AKAI will fix this APP that they CHARGE for, they are oblivious. I called AKAI and the man I spoke with told me he is unaware with the issues on the app. I tweet them constantly and sent emails yet no response nor an update. This was a waste of money and space and I suggest to anyone reading this review NOT to give AKAI your money.

It started off as a good easy to use app, but then when it came to sharing it led to disappointment. The Audio becomes corrupted after sharing & ruins the song, all that hard work for nothing. Thanks IMPC for wasting my time.

Everything was fine up till a few days ago when the app kept crashing on me. Every time I open it, it auto closes. Unsure of what to do!

Really since each pad is able to adjust levels its like having unlimited tracks plus sample recorded thru phone sound real good . Pretty nice little machine

A thoughtful app with design quirks that actually make a lot of sense from a performance standpoint. (Check out the genius of the beat repeat switch). Over all as a whole through design the app has shown it's true nature as an innovation. It sounds good too especially once you mess with the compressor

What I would like to see:

Ability to choose the amount of pads: (the mpc 500 had 12 pads so I don't think 16 needs to be a lock in exchange for performance comfort)

An option to turn off the recording click

If individual pad pitch could be changed for right from 16 levels function instead of needing to reload samples and repitch them

An undo function on all effects

A tray that slides down from the top that takes you directly to the pads (maybe to make menu dives easier by giving a quick way straight to the performance spot

I'm thoroughly surprised by this app and excited to watch it evolve the range of it's workflow

This app doesn't work continuously crashes on the iPhone I had a friend introduced me to this app on iPad and it's a totally different version and I loved it. So I went and purchased it but my experience on the iPhone Version its completely garbage how do I get me money back I do not want this taking up space on my phone complete trash.

Love this app more then the impc pro just because it looks like a real MPC but it's lacking some features.

Please update and add the ability to use more then 4 tracks.

Plus it would be great to have filters and EQ in the effects.

Musicians need to be able to share this with each other. Please make app to app sharing. I have musicians who have this same app but we run into issues sharing it. Everyone has to make their own version of the same thing or rush to switch iPhones to play the mpc

please please help. every time i try to export my audio track i recorded, it crashes. i tried to redo it and it still crashes. in fact anytime there is any kind of recorded audio even just one sound or stab for less than a bar it crashes. but a blank recording exports fine with no sound recorded at all. only when there is any type of sound/recorded track my attempt to export...crash. in need of a serious update to fix many bugs. very upset because this is a wonderful app fir music producers but simply isn't enough just to use it on my devices.

The app keeps crashing...making it useless to me.

Ok first of ... this is a fun app but it is limited. But for the price... I am happy. This app never crashed on me (owned 2years) until I recently tried to upload a beat to sound cloud. Now it crashes unless I turn off all internet activity ... cellphone data or wifi. Maybe the developers will read this and check into it.

I do sound production for SunSlice records and this a fun bus stop or restaurant pass time. I have made some interesting beats by digging into the self sampling and delays. It not the most intuitive but neither is the MPCs it's mimicking. I think anybody expecting something more for $3 may be busting the developers balls a bit here. They give you plenty for what it is. I do like. I own the iPad version too which is more robust. But if you dig a bit ... you can make some pretty decent beats with this app.

3.5 out of 5 stars from me. Please create a delete option in the sounds category on iPhone just like the iPad version. Also when you select the wavelength that you want the rest with an option should be discarded.

Yea would probably be a decent app if it didn't CRASH on launch. It's hilarious how it hasn't been updated for at least being more stable. And this isn't new, I been searching around and this has happened every time an iOS update has come up. They need to fix this fast because as it stands, this is a waste of money/space.

This app would be good if navigation was easier instead of the sliding because when want to access 1 thing u do another. Basic actions r harder to figure out along with the navigation makes this app a pain.

I bought this app hoping to have some fun. I never got past the instruction screen. It crashes constantly on my iPhone 4. I tried deleting and reinstalling but nothing seems to fix the issue. Akai needs to fix this issue. If you are going to put an app on sale, you should make sure it works first!!!

Why is there no record button on this app??!! That makes no sense!!! What's the point of using this if you can't record anything?

I own an mpc 2000xl and the production feel of this app is familiar but different. The turntable mode is cool. This app is not a fully featured DAW but if you are sitting at a bus stop or waiting for some tacos this will absolutely keep you entertained. This app is versatile enough I could see myself plugging my phone into my dj rig. If you are serious about your production you will spend more than a few bucks on an app and think you're the next amp live but for what it does impc is totally worth it.

I own and enjoy the iPad version. Not sure why this isn't a universal app...why no Ableton link in this one, while the iPad version has it?

Great app, very helpful and easy to use with great options.

One major downside that takes away 3 stars is the fact that you can't export your beats through saving them or sending them via email or text, it has to be uploaded on soundcloud.

Tried messing with the mixer and different settings in between my 20 trial-uploads.

I have reported problems many times at Akai Professional support page. But they did not fix bug this time too.. That's To Be Expected. If going to do in this way... Block update for ios7 users on iMPC version 1.2 would be better.

So many bugs and glitches, especially when switching between pages or menus. Still a fun app and enjoyable when it works. This app definitely deserves more love from the developers, but I doubt we will see any more updates for it. Too bad since it has great potential to be a good MPC on the iPhone. Keeping my hopes up though :) I will still mess around with it until I get fed up from all the bugs...

I'm glad i also have the IMPC Pro on my iPad which recently got updated and became lot more stable. Hopefully a pro version will make it to the iPhone with less bugs than this one.

This app is a solid drum machine, second in sounds only to iMaschine. However, both apps have their disappointing limitations. iMPC has no InterApp audio and does not support use in Audiobus. 2 very dominating negatives. You can use iTunes file sharing, but I haven't tried it yet to see how and what apps it transfers, but when it uploads to soundcloud it skipped at the beginning of the track. I have had an occasional crash when editing sounds, but so far haven't lost anything big since I was only exploring. This app has so much potential and just a few minor improvements would make this the strongest drum machines in the App Store!

I make a beat.. It's dope.. But then I have to leave the app (which causes the music to stop) because I want to write to it in the notepad.. Or find the paper That I was writing on to continue which I don't really want to do.. Throws me off from writing to the beat initially.. If there was a notepad assigned to every sequence.. That would be so dope.. I wouldn't have to figure where my raps are because I specifically wrote to that sequence.. I don't know about making apps but I figure that would be too tough to add in there

You can't do anything in this app without it crashing almost every time you want to save your work or make changes to a configuration. It would be a great little app if it worked. Also, the app support link is a bad link so you can't even report your problem through the App Store. Another app that figures that no one will complain about $2.99 so they don't bother actually putting out a good product.

It was fun for a while-crashed here and there, and then stopped working all together for almost a year.... And then started working again but it still crashes (more so than ever) and the worst part - I CANT SAVE OR UPLOAD TO SOUNDCLOUD ANYMORE !!! I get an error message. Can't copy it...can't do anything to keep it. Not to mention the "app support " button next to write a review doesn't work either. 😥

The app definitely has problems. It will randomly crash, some features do t work, and there isn't much to do with it. It's fun just to mess around with the drums, but if I find a beat I like, I can't really record it. If I want to delete the preset track, I hit delete and delete track, but that doesn't really work. Either it will delete almost all of it, leaving some fx or something, or it wont delete it at all. There are many other problems too. I only bought this because I saw the Ableton link thing. Hopefully I will be fixed.

Ive been using this app for a long time and i have made over 200 beats so far and uploaded to soundcloud but overall this app is amazing but i recently updated my iphone 5c and it closes when i go to the pencil icon which is for customizing your kit

It works well with my MPD218(if there was a better way to connect hardware + software w/o having to hold the note repeat button while plugging it in that'd be super cool). Also there are crashes every now and then when you edit the sounds in your kit. Would also be nice to have a few extra effects implemented in like reverbs, stretching and other stuff for sure. Would also be fantastic to implement some type of automation feature to control pitch, parameters of the effects. Also, maybe a way to export stems? But pretty cool overall!!! Again, has a lot of potential.

Well to start off I make beats myself on my mpd 26. Tho I thought it would be cool if I bought myself a version to make music for my phone. When recording the hi hats it seems off beat or to fast . And if you want to upload your track to soundcloud it's not worth it because you can't even make it a minute long.

This app has been on my wish list for the longest even with all the bad reviews of it crashing and stuff like that. And while I admit it does crash a few times I still was into it. UNTIL I had seen that, unlike the iMPC Pro on the iPad, you cannot upload more then ONE SEQUENCE and you only get FOUR TRACKS!? Y'all really disappointed me. Waste of money and my time. SMH.

And by the way imma take my chances with GarageBand

The app seems great but a few bugs keep me from being able to use it at all. The menu from the right won't fully appear when I slide it out. Instead, there's just half the menu and a big white space. It seems like a small issue, but it stops me from using most of the real capabilities of the app because I can't use important menu buttons. Other than that, the clickable part of each pad seems off by a touch, I have to click in the space between them to use the left half, which interferes when trying to do live recording (very important to the app because there's no timeline or arrangement view). The app seems great, and earlier reviews make it look highly useable. If these bugs were to be fixed I'd anticipate my review to be a five, but I have to hold back right now because I can't actually record any beats. Hoping for an update soon that fixes these issues on my iPhone 5s!

App looks good... (in the rare event it actually starts up). Closing ALL bkgrd apps occasionally helps, I think. I bet there's cache data that needs to be removed. Using iPhone6+ (OS 8.1.1) and we expect more from Akai in the way of testing. Giving it 4 stars based on Videos I've seen and assuming Akai will get this fixed this week.

I used to love this app. now it won't even export songs properly, rendering it 100% useless. Im a rapper and beat maker and I use the app to sketch ideas and share drafts with other rappers and producers. recently I used the default 120bpm, exported to soundcloud and there is an odd second of silence at the beginning and end of 11 sec loop. changing the bpm doesn't help either. poo. seconding another users sentiment, how do I get my $ back?

Needless to say I'm a huge fan of the MPC series since the Roger Linn series. I'm also in to the current hardware that has been provides for the new digital age of music making while keeping the feel of the original MPC hardware in mind . -- with that said this app is big disappointment & I actually noticed after I purchased it that it hasn't been updated in years. I would like my money back actually. This is an embarrassment on your companies behave to not take in consideration the fast paced evolution of digital music making on the go. -- what I thought would have been a convenient app to get rough ideas down turns out to be an app that crashes whenever you attempt to sample from your iPhone music library. It's a shame that you guys do not take your loyal costumer base in mind. Was an awesome app, downloaded it on my iPad and loved it so much I paid for it again to have on my iPhone 5S with iOS 8, now after a recent update I get NO SOUND on my iPhone, tried everything, pads and pre recorded sound no longer work. What good is a music creation and that doesn't play audio?!?! I payed you guys twice bc you charge separate for iPads and iPhones when it should have been a one time payment for both and now one doesn't work, please fix so I can change my review!

I've had impc since it was released. Its cool and all but it really needs a dropbox option or something so ican load my drums directly into the app. Connecting to a computer just to upload drums all time is a hassle, especially if you dont have access to one. Atleast a third party app (thats completely free) so we can import wav files, come on

What's stopping this app from being a great app?

1. AudioBus.

ADD THIS. NOW!!!

I can't explain how disappointed I was when I bought AudioBus to discover I could use all of my apps, except for this one. This was a huge blow and a setback.

2. Song Mode

Tracks, progs, and seqs are cool and are all present as they should be, but no Song Mode. It makes it extremely hard to organize everything and/or make complete tracks ready to go.

3. Better editing.

4. Really needs better touch response. I find myself full of anxiety trying to rename things or add new tracks/kits.

4. Import folders.

iTunes forces you to import sounds individually. I just want to drop folders in so my drum kits can be organized. I don't want a giant list of sounds to browse thru, it's just counterproductive.

There's a ton of bugs, glitches and app breaking hiccups. So much potential I hope you guys don't let it go to waste. Fix these things and you will have a five star app that will satisfy all music makers and otherwise.

i owned an mpc and this is nothing like it. the user interface is not friendly and the fact you can only use 4 tracks is kind of wack. I never opened a manual on the mpc 2000 i owned yet i found myself having to go to the guide and even online to figure this thing out. Then when i try to close out i was left with a flashing red bar across the top of my 5c. i would save your money on this one.

I just bought the app. Is there a way to place it in song mode. I know because it's iPhone some features might not be available. But if it is allowing me to upload to soundcloud I would like to be able to song mode it. Unless I just haven't played with tiling enough to find it.

At first it was exciting to use the app bc it had the appearance of an MPC, but it is far from that. This app is a toy. NO SONG MODE??? ONLY 4 tracks??? Also if you leave the app it crashes when opened again. Akai has revamped themselves and made better quality products after the disastrous 5000, but this is a step backwards. Very disappointed! Try Beatmaker. This app had a LONG way to go. Not to mention that it erases all my tracks from every beat I have made on the app. This is by far the worst app on the market!!!!

The untuitiveness of this app wears thin the novelty of having an MPC on the iPhone. The "documentation" is sparse and vague on top of it!

Addendum: What I was confusing for being unintuitive was actually a lack of functionality!

For example, there is no song mode for arranging sequences! How do they dare include "MPC" as part of their name without song mode?

You can't make chops with it. Again, it's ridiculous to name something after an MPC when frequently used features are completely missing from the app?!?!

If the argument is that it is supposed to be a "sketchpad" then why not have export available to MPC2000 format instead of only MPC Software which is only available to newer MPC models? This is just a slap in the face to diehard loyal MPC users! Terrible!

Conclusion: Akai should be embarrassed to even associated with this app! This app should not be called MPC in any way shape or form. It is FALSE ADVERTISING!!

I would like that you fix the closing app thing because once you open the app it stays open. I have to shut down my phone every time i use this app, it stays with the red band on the top of my menu for hours.

This app was amazing when I first bought it...but after a while it started to act funny. I can't record too many tracks without the recording part glitching or freezing. I use to use this app in the studio and at church but now I can't I can't even make new beats withou it freezing. Can you please fix this for me and all the other musicians that love this app?

Lots of included sounds, you can make samples from any song in your ipod music list, no latency! Obviously missing some things (ease of use) you would get with the real thing, but with a little extra work you can do anything.

Make the pads more sensitive on the touch screen. I don't have the luxury of an iPad & I find the response time slow on an iPhone 4 ( though I will amend this review if it performs better on iPhone 5). Audiobus support would be killer as well. Also, updates for new sound packs & you guys have one heck of an app!

I've had Akai's MPC 2000, 2000XL, MPK, and now the iMPC. It is the next generation of production "hardware." Retronyms did an awesome job of recreating the feel of the classic production console. You can create your own banks, sample audio from your phone and even get the audio files to continue your composition later on your daw of choice. I can be productive even when I'm busy! This app is definitely a game changer and worth every penny.

What the heck is wrong with Retronyms and Akai. Have they not seen videos of millions of musicians using Audiobus to allow various music apps to be used seamlessly together to create powerful music? Have they not realized that iMPC could exponentially more powerful (and popular) when combined with other apps. , especially the new ultra powerful synth. apps? I realize that they feel their Tabletop app. competes with Audiobus and they want it to be an all-in-one, self-contained app., but that is not a wise strategy. For one, the the standalone synth. and effects apps. are far superior to the ones in Tabletop, after all, they were developed by the likes of Korg, Waldorf, Propellerhead and Moog to name a few. Second, Tabletop itself would benefit from having Audiobus. It has neat features, is fun to use, but can't do everything. Audiobus integration would solve that. Finally, customers want to have a choice in how we create music. We don't want to be confined to the limitations imposed by a company's marketing strategy.

I might have something set wrong, but the playback is extremely slow. And no, it's not the bpm. No matter what bpm I set it plays every seq. slow and I can't figure out why. It's so slow I can't make anything. I've even deleted and reinstalled. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? It probably needs an update.

This is a great app, and doesn't seem to drain the battery too quickly either. Great sampling function, and easy to navigate. Some small sporadic hiccups, but overall a very good product.

You can make your own beat from scratch with out using the preset beats..you all are so dumb learn how to work it fools..love this app just wish for more tracks and a chop shop and this would be 100.

Update 2: 8/7/13 been working with the app for days now and I notice there are a few bugs; app force closing and Note Repeat not functioning all the time as well as the 16 Levels feature not functioning all the time. I must reduce a star for these bugs but I'm sure they will be fixed soon and I can then rate 5 stars again! ALSO, PLEASE add audiobus!

Update1: after browsing through app, I believe apple App Store needs to make a 10 star rating system! There are definitely some treats added in the impc for iPhone and I would easily rate 10 stars! Great Job!

AWESOME!!!! I've been waiting for iMPC to come to iPhone since the iPad version came out. Yesterday was my birthday and this is a nice surprise! Thank you Retronyms & Akai.

Could easily turn from a good sketch pad into a powerful app for music production with the addition of audiobus. But not just as an input but as an output too, especially since its already a decent sampler. I have no idea new release music apps are even being put out without audiobus already baked in. Audiobus needs to be standard for all music making apps.

UPDATE: copy a paste is also pretty bad. For one the feature is really hidden in the menus as if it was a second thought. I doubt most will find it. Also every time I copy something and try to paste it into another app, copy always has artifacts in it. Some kind of crackle pause or small sound. So without any audiobus or a copy and paste that actually works makes this app useless to me.

I really believe it's going to be a real nice app to have on my iPhone 5, when I get a chance to play with it, but it keeps freezing whenever a phone call or text comes in and then I have to turn off my phone first, and then back on to get the iMPC to restart properly again... Please update soon I'm anxious to have a MPC on my phone.

Read the 1 stars reviews here...they're unfounded. First, Rec requires a press and hold of rec while pressing play to engage. It's not broken. And second, ur not limited to the stock seqs! U can create a new one, import and edit ur own sounds from a blank slate. Read the tutorial (which is super btw) and you be fine:) lastly, audiobus. Need it. Period.

I spent $1250 on my MPC and extended RAM and im actually happier with the iPhone version for 2.99 if you have ever dreamed of making music this is a great way to see if u have the will power and skills to succeed at a fraction of the cost. A lot of people buy MPCs and don't even know how to use them. The sounds that come with this app are actually cutting edge and better than my dated synths. I can just bust out and play live drum pads while I wait for my gf to get out of work. Go buy it you will be happy you did. It's only 2.99 stop being cheap

Great app. Needs a few tweaks but very responsive drum pad app with a wealth of sound styles. Kind of a deeper MadPad without the video. Adding music from iTunes is easy, as is adding your own sound bites. However I would like to see the custom names I make for my sounds, actually show up on the pads so I know which is which.
