I built Chirp Notes because I was tired of voice apps that demand access to my recordings. Every other transcription app I tried wanted to upload my audio to their servers. Some promised privacy but still required an internet connection. None of them felt right.
So here's what's different: everything happens on your iPhone. The AI runs locally. Your recordings never leave your device. Ever.
HOW IT WORKS
Tap record, start talking, and tap stop. The app transcribes your audio using Whisper AI - the same tech behind ChatGPT's voice features - except it runs entirely on your phone. Takes about 3-5 seconds to process. No internet needed after you download the app.
The waveform shows your voice in real time with color-coded levels (green is good, yellow means you're getting loud, red means you're yelling). It's oddly satisfying to watch.
If you pause while talking, the app notices and adds paragraph breaks automatically. Makes transcriptions way easier to read later.
ACTUALLY PRIVATE
Your data never touches a server because there are no servers. I don't have backend infrastructure. I literally cannot see your notes even if I wanted to.
Want proof? Turn on airplane mode after setup. Everything still works perfectly.
If you're extra paranoid (no judgment), turn on encryption in settings. Your notes get locked with AES-256 encryption and require Face ID or Touch ID to open. Even if someone steals your phone, they can't read your notes.

Records at 16kHz in Linear PCM WAV format (that's what Whisper AI needs for best accuracy). The AI model is 39MB and downloads once during first launch. After that, you're good forever - no more downloads, no subscriptions, no internet required.

WHY I BUILT THIS
Every app wants your data now. They say it's to "improve the experience" but really it's to build profiles for ads. I got tired of it.
Voice notes are personal. Meeting recordings, ideas, diary entries - that's not stuff I want on someone else's server. Even if they promise encryption, you're still trusting them.
So I built the app I wanted to use. One that works offline, respects privacy, and just does the job without making you think about security.
