Update: this game has been updated! It's nice when developers go back and fix old games, and sad that so few developers do. This one does! Both this game and the original EPOCH (which I don't yet have) have been updated, despite their age. 😄

Old review: This app needs to be updated to improve compatibility with current hardware/software. I though this message was only when apps lacked 64 bit support, but version history lists 64 bit support update added. So I don't know why it gives that message, but either way, the developer needs to update it.

This game is amazing.

I bought this game Feb 2, 2014. I must say it is One of the Best games out their. This game still outshines the rest of the apps in Innovation, Even after 5 year. Everything from the story and art to the gameplay and graphics make me further realize that this game will keep standing the test of time for games and developers alike!!

It's a really great game story and even graphic wise and I'm just waiting for another sequel or maybe even a prequel. Can't believe after almost 3 years they gave it a new update. Got me through summer last year and I downloaded it again to help my boredom this summer.

After their success, Uppercut delivers the sequel to their hit game EPOCH. The same things tend to apply to this sequel as they did to the first game, but with improvements.

Pros:

An actual story while doing the campaign without reading intercepts

Once again intercepts do worldbuilding

Combat system with lots of swiping, similar to Infinity Blade and Severed

More gameplay mechanics

Increased variety of gear you can equip for each category(except missiles)

Mini Bosses and more enemy types are added

High end graphics

Cheap Price

Cons:

Music tends to get repetitive, although it is improved from the first game

Boss weapons and armor are locked behind a paywall, although they aren't required to enjoy the game

Overall, for $1 this is more worthwhile than your typical sidescroller or top-down shooter. With a good swipe based formula it hits close to the greatness of the Infinity Blade triology.

Excited that this app won't get left behind. Thanks developers!

I love this game because the extremely high graphics, the the story line, and the amazing robot that you fight every level. I found out about this game when I was playing Crossy Road witch avratised this game so give a big thank you to crossy road!

Awesome game. Definitely worth paying for. Also, plz make the iron modes a tad less difficult, as I had issues dealing with the first stage in iron mode. When I go against a super-proteus, I wouldn't live 2 minutes😫

It's not for a casual gamer..

There are some levels that are crazy difficult and need you to get a ton of credits to get the correct shield and weapons. Play the arena levels often and rack up credits before playing a level. I feel the timed levels are impossible to beat. Iron mode is possible by getting the right weapons and armor. Overall great game. Amazing graphics unbeatable price. 2.99 for a game this great!!! Amazing!!

Let me start by saying I haven't played this game for very long. Also, this is my first review on the App Store. But this game deserves it. Stunning graphics, unbelievably smooth gameplay, very well designed levels and bosses. They are not lying when they say this game is optimized for iOS. I felt like I was on a next gen console. Seriously. Yeah. That's how amazing this game is. It is a bit challenging, as you start out with pretty low health and basically have to fight a boss right away, but it somehow never stops being unbelievably fun. As soon as you play the game, you realize it could be a console game but it is so well designed for iOS it is jaw dropping. This game has great action, great story, and great gameplay mechanics.

This is a must have. It is worth every penny.

you cant go anywhere without purchasing.a battle will give you from 1000 to 2700 coins but the good weapons cos around a million coins and there are 5 differennt upgrades, itll take me 6 months to get a fun to play robot

I am replaying it on my 6s plus and AirPlay to my Apple TV. Still a lot of fun and looks Better than ever!

Granted, I may be a video game developer and robot enthusiast, but really, who(m) isn't

I come back to this game from time to time and it's still very enjoyable. Very good graphics, neat sci-fi story with unlock-able npc journal style entries to flesh out the world, very likable hero, customizable weapon/armor system, just challenging enough. Wish it was a bit longer, but it has different difficulty settings and special zones to add replay value and difficulty for those that want it. Also has an experience/leveling system so that if you are having a hard time beating the last few levels, you can replay easier ones to level up and stock up on coins for better weapons. All in all, great gaming experience with perfect balance. Does NOT have one of those annoying energy bar mechanics that makes players wait to play . . . which is outstanding.

The game is amazing. Graphics are really good. VFx is amazing too! Those slo-mo when you kick the opponent, awesome! Superb music and sound effects.

The only thing I didn't like is the fact that best suites and weapons are only available through "in-app purchase" and you can't unlock them with only game play and game credits.

By the way, the game gets few stares when I play it in the public transport! ;)

This game is a great example of how game devs can use a touch device for gaming in the best way and make it the best on a touch. The controls are fluid and rely on strokes. In other shooters on IOS, such as MC5, Contract Killer, or the IOS port of Bioshock, it's not as good. It isn't because those games feel like it was sort of designed more like they were for a console game. Bioshock has an excuse being a port of a PC and Console game, but they all suffered from feeling like it would be better if you were using a controller. All of these are great games, but it does suffer from that control weirdness. This game nailed it by throwing away the virtual on screen controller, for swipes and touches, really utilizing a smartphone's gaming capacity. The story if great, hard to get into at first, but has surprises all around. In the end, games like this or Infinity Blade really shows how touchscreen can really be wholly unique, and sometimes even better than its PC or Console counterparts.

You should add like a free room with a joystick and everything so I can just world the Waste land and have some robots in the wasteland there and have a button shoot and kill them and find new weapons in the wasteland then just pick him up and use them you guys please add that please

Graphics are awesome. Touch screen controls are intuitive and smooth. The story is not very interesting in the beginning but the ending is surprisingly good. With such a cliffhanger the dev will definitely come up with another sequel in this series. Cons include campaign being too short, draining battery so fast. All in all, it's a great game worth playing.

This game has what it needs. It's got a good story, several gamemodes, and really cool graphics from Unreal Games (same guys who worked on Sanctum and Infinity Blade). At first it seems very different from the first one, but then you realize it's just the same game over again, but then right when your about to delete it you see something new. Every time. It's worth it.

An excellent game! Wi-Fi, not needed, which is excellent for the kids, not eating up your cellular data. I found it very addicting myself! Smooth interface, with excellent graphics! Sometimes, in the epic battles, it gets difficult to select your target..., but that could be due to my relative beginning skill level. Worth every penny!

I really liked the first one I bought it right before the second one came out but quickly bought the second one this game doesn't make you pay for in app purchases which why should it since you pay right off the bat for it but if your looking for an addictive game that really has some good graphics this game is for you I played mostly on my iPhone but got the iPad Air 2 yesterday just love this game on it really surprised by the graphics

Yea Epoch was a great game I always had fun with it, at least you fixed the wepons that are crashing in the tutorial I almost cannot try other of my obtained items in that to try it. After a few days I want to download it again but when I wanted to download it, it was paid. Why did it have to be paid??

This game is nice in a lot of respects but the sniper weapons are totally useless making it very difficult to pass the levels that require them. They are way too expensive. The scope view is terrible and makes you vulnerable to any attack. Also, the damage done is really weak and reload time is so slow. Refuse to play any level with these silly guns. I will lose patience with this and will soon delete.

I had previously rated this game highly, but when in-app purchase of an item doesn’t work, and the system just says that the purchase was already made but not downloaded, I have to revise my rating. If I use the W.O.R.M. armor, I can’t get past the first instructional encounter in the Sunrise District, as it won’t die no matter how many times it’s hit. It doesn’t even seem to be getting damaged, although it has a white circle on it almost from the beginning as an automatic kill by tapping. I can’t tap on anything to effect at that point, other than the pause/restart button. t will revise again if this is quickly fixed.

I will leave critiquing the finer elements to the gaming websites, for me though, from the get go I have enjoyed Epoch 2. It is fairly straight forward and what I particularly like about it is that once you get the hang of it you can become really efficient with how you use your weaponry to take care of specific situations. Perhaps the game could be improved by snazzier moves, weaponry, and cutscene animation, but it is charming and good the way it is. Upgrading weapons/armor would be great too.

It's rare to find a mobile game with such high production values, solid writing, and fun gameplay. It's a cover based shooter similar to the mass effect mobile game except the shooting is all automated.

While that might sound boring, the game manages to still be challenging and fun as you swipe to move between cover points, pop out in and out of cover and use abilities like grenades and missiles. There's tons of variety in gear with different damage and armor types to consider and the narrative is surprisingly engaging.

Definitely give this game a try!

This game blows my mind away with how smoothly it runs and with it's fantastic graphics. I can't stop playing this game, I love it. I say it's nearly the best because although it's awesome gameplay is unmatched by any other game I've played it still could add some things like upgrades and online teams. But besides everything it could add I strongly suggest you play this game you will not regret it but you'll love that you did, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next update.

Plays great, story's good, levels aren't that hard till the final two and even then all you have to worry about is the guys that can hit you through cover. Then it gets really difficult trying to get through the levels again on Time Trial and Iron Mode. I wonder if an EPOCH 3 might be in the works, where you get to fight the Big Two with your army of liberated robots.

Wow what a great game I don't like to pay for credits or gems or doughnuts or any other bullcrap freemium currency but this game doesn't require it. Buying credits will get you the best guns faster but you don't have to. This is the type of game that makes me want to contribute to the development of future games so I'll be buying the 2x credits just to help the cause. Thanks for a great game.

Unreal technology has really christened this game. It goes up there with Infinity Blade and Injustice. However, unlike those two, Epoch has a rich storyline and dialogue that other graphic games don't have. Combine that with your extremely acrobatic skills, and Epoch also becomes as awesome as Batman or Superman. I've dreamt of being Batman, I've dreamt of being Superman, and now, I've dreamt of being Epoch.

Straight forward game controls, not hard to learn. sci-fi themed, shooter with some twists and enough going on to keep you busy (even sometimes frantic) on heavy fire combat missions. We play games as an uber-cyborg, wielding weapons for mass destruction, blasting away. It's fun, in a not too deep but nonetheless exciting way. Game holds amusement with some far-out story line, plus numerous choices to make with load outs for equipment and weapons. Targeting, dodging enemy blasts + reloading, while using a couple tactical weapon abilities/attacks, this what i mean by busy. advancement offering equipment options which seem cool, various weapons for choice related to opponent(s). Plus boss fights that harder. Even an option to play harder difficulty settings for the hardcore folks. I say to the makers: bravo! Well done. Thanks!

I haven't played the first game. I got this one because it was App of the Week, but I am getting the first one soon. This game is INCREDIBLE. Great completely unique gameplay, a good story, and a variety of ways to fight. The one thing I wish the game had is the ability to upgrade weaker equipment. Mainly, I'm referring to the "Naked Chassis" armor, which is EPOCH's canon appearance. And the weakest armor in the game. I think it should be able to be upgraded without changing the appearance. Otherwise, amazing game. 10/10.

Expanded enemies, more guns, only in the 1/3 and i love this game as much as the first. Though i was hoping for more detail on armor i.e. Not just poison resistance but how much and a way to customize armor and weapons.

This version has got me changing tactics constantly where in 1 after you hit about lvl 30 you just suited up with a grenade launcher and the toughest armor, a lot more strategic and poison though i love I'm using electric guns more they are better tuned in this game.

Without question, Epoch.2 is a worthy successor to the original. Unlike so many sequels, the developers did not make poor changes; the good components of the original Epoch are still here and without modification. The control system is still intuitive and responsive, graphics and customizability outstanding, and audio amazing. Level design has improved, adding multi-height levels that creates some interesting gameplay situations. Story has been advanced, now not solely told through intercepts, and while the cutscene graphics aren't exemplary, they still add to the game and don't get in the way. The only real downside to Epoch.2 is the same as the one that plagued the original: it's a battery pig. As a full 3D game, battery life is seriously impacted by playing...but it is worth it. If you liked Epoch, you'll like this sequel.

This game looks fantastic on my iPad Air. However, it tends to crash erratically. This app now tops my list of apps that crash frequently on my iPad devices (Safari being #1, which is sad). It definitely drains the living daylights out of my Air's battery life. I think the game is so demanding on my Air because it starts to heat up (seriously). At first, it's easy and it's like a swipe, shoot, swipe, shoot, rinse repeat game. Then, it gets difficult immediately. You have to keep your upgrades up as much as possible just to keep up with the enemies (they somehow level up as you do). Other than that, it's a very fun game!

Lots of things just come together right in Epoch 2, often unexpectedly.

- It's a shooter on rails, mostly, but you never feel the lack of movement control because you're too busy shooting and dodging.

- Yes, there's a premium store. No, there's nothing you can't earn.

- Yes, there's a bit of grinding, but you're too busy trying to perfect your assault technique for the next level to care.

- Yes, the 16 levels really do feel like different areas.

- The upgrades are fantastic. The weapons all feel different and require different approaches. The armor bonuses make a difference and require you to plan ahead. The grenade types also feel like more than something you just throw and you'll probably prefer a different grenade than your friends.

The storyline, revealed in short (but replayable!) cutscenes, is interesting and the personal logs you can recover add to the sense of the world and what the end was like for humans.

Overall, the game is spectacular and I would recommend the game to anyone who has any interest in action-y games at all.

When I played the first EPOCH game I thought it was AMAZING, I thought the cliffhanger on the end was pretty good, I knew the game would make enough money to make a second. And once the second came out I was very excited. At first I thought it was easy but once I was halfway through it started getting hard, but I magicly got through each of them in one try (HOW???) And then the final level came, I thought it would be impossible, AND IT WAS. And after I beat the four bosses PROTEUS magicly got on his side, the snipers came (my least favorite boss, and there was too!!!) so I thought I could take them on but then, proteus threw a grenade that made get out of cover and I died almost immediately. I sit

And one last thing, have you seen the drawings where proteus wrote "Am I alone?" iPad then a picture if his face in the background? I thought it was pretty cool, anyway 5/5 STARS!!!

All of my battles have had unique events and many different enemy behaviors, noticeably rectifying the repetitive nature of the battles in the 1st game. Controls are responsive and graphics are outstanding. Waited for the .99 cent sale so I could afford the 2.99 coin doubler IAP. Can't wait to see what this dev will come up with next!

I was a pretty big fan of the original Epoch and I am pleased to say that the sequel does not dissapoint very much. While it is certainly not a bad game by any means it suffers from the fact that there is very little in the realm of gameplay that differentiates from Epoch 1. The original was incredibly fun but it would have been nice to see them bring something new and interesting to the table. This also seems to have inherited a problem from its predecesor and by that I mean that it appears to be very short. However, what the game lacks in length and originality it makes up for in fun. Epoch 2 is exhilirating and fun. The developers have really hit the perfect mark for difficulty. This game is just difficult enough to be a challenge but is also not mind numbingly hard like some other games I have played recently. Overall if your looking for a good challenge with some good gameplay that will keep you glued to your device than look no further and spend your money. But if you are not a fan of cover based shooting and prefer a more lengthy experience than you may want to look elsewhere.

Pro: Great game, much improved from original, has cutscenes, actors and a story. Graphical quality and combat variety much improved. Now many types of enemies, areas, strategies needed.

Cons:AppStore gamers are casual, this game is pretty difficult, almost put it down a few times. Want to see more animation in the environments, humans running from robots, objects falling, exploding. More customization of EPOCH. More visual narrative, less written notes. This is cover-shooting, not DEVICE6!

Keep it coming, I'll be in line for EPOCH 3!

It's a decent game, but I was hugely disappointed by how quickly the difficulty increased and essentially forced upgrades to $12,000 weapons while only awarding $500 for replaying missions. Seems clear the intent is to force the player into IPA or replay the same level 24 times to buy one weapon. Online reviews complain about the same, so it's not just me. I hope they make some changes, I've given up playing after only a day because I'm not going to replay levels over and over again for a single upgrade after paying for the app to begin with. Disappointing and it takes the fun out of an otherwise decent game.

This game could be a lot of fun. Graphics are sharp and lots of weapons to choose from. However, the in app grind is terrible. There are a lot of cheaper that cost 2-3 complete missions and then a massive jump to items you'll never get. The timed and more difficult modes must require those items. Once you get one like armor, you realize you are only getting one more shot of damage protection for a bit amount of grind.

I bought this at 2.99 and would have thought a great value if you could get items quicker. As it were, there are 3 levels it can complete and grinding them for items is completely boring.

I understand that you all who bought the game might think it unfair that they lower the price but anyone could just take a moment and think that it is a holiday and Black Friday just happened, where the most sales of the year happen. It is a fantastic game and worth the price whether it's on sale or not.

PS- We are here to rate the quality of the game not complain about price reduction.

The game mechanics are great. The storyline is decent, but not as good as #1 (the character of the princess is flat and it makes it hard to care about her). But the biggest issue, again, is the difficulty. At many times it is far too easy, but then a situation will hit that is nearly impossible. (Remember Epoch 1 Hard Difficulty half way through? I knew four people who played the game who all never made it past that level.)

But the best part about the game...you truly CAN get through it (at least as far as the first main chapter) without spending any money. Good job, debs!

This is a fantastic game! However, the Game itself is quite difficult and requires one to purchase many upgrades in order to even succeed at progressing. The developers should strongly consider awarding players more for their progress instead of only giving them a pathetic & minuscule amount of game money to upgrade nothing. Due to the fact that all of the in-game purchases are insurmountably expensive!!!!!!

For some reason I was expecting more than a game where you stand in one place and shoot enemies. It's pretty and runs smoothly on the iPad air and current generation devices, but I find the game tedious and really not that fun. Unfortunately, this is another purchase that will be deleted after only a few days. It would be nice if you could have trials with the Apple s tore or at the very least have the ability to gift a purchased app to another user. Oh well.

This game is what I expected it to be. Awsome. I bought this game on the day of the release, and I also bought the first one. I just feel disappointed in the price drop so soon. If your ganna do a price drop, do it on the release then maybe 2 days later up the price. If you make a epoch 3, please make the price drop on the release.

I debated this purchase on Day 1, decided to wait, and was surprisingly rewarded with a sale just a few days later. I probably would not have purchased the app without the discount. So, bravo to the developers for the incentive.

Tho those whining, complaining, crying about the quickly offered discount: stop thinking like the suckers most of you are. OF COURSE the developers will release a sequel at full price. Excited fans can't wait to purchase first day. After the fans make their purchase, then the developers must reel in the stragglers (in this case with a discount of %50). The discount was never intended for you. This is how it's done.

You can either remain a Fan (glad you supported the project with your $6 and proud to be the first to play) or become a Sucker, worthless of any review space in the App Store.

Be ware: this game require extensive money grinding if you do not want but any IAP (which sets at a ridiculous price. $50 real dollar is just enough to buy ONE SINGLE top-tier equipment) Let's say you can only afford a 10,000 credits weapon at the last third mission which does a negligible improvement that doesn't help u fight the increased difficulty at all, and every mission reward u with 1000 credits that does not scale much as you progress. The game play and upgrades have little differences comparing to the previous title (except the you get new looks) and the game play became repetitive extremely fast. The story line is dull and boring as u just collect power core in EVERY SING MISSION with no actual character introduced in real game play. There are few bosses that get repetitive as they are introduced in later missions with combinations of different minions. The difficulty scale way too fast and the reward is so unsatisfying since the reward barely scales (guess u have to buy the $2 double coin IAP buddy). The graphic is okay I guess since u are controlling a robot made of scraps and the advanced equipment does not make ur robot look any cooler. With a $6 price I am really disappointed by the path the develop took that you can barely finish the campaign without purchasing IAP. Clearly the developer wants to copy the business model of infinite blade and failed in every way possible.

This game is fast paced and sorta fun but it lacks a certain fun factor infinity blade has. Maybe if there were most context sensitive actions like if we could make Epoch bash the enemies ourselves instead of just targeting them so he jumps over on his own.

Also the graphics aren't that impressive on herders if I hadn't seen the human model they made I would've thought they were re-using the Epoch 1 assets. The game runs 60fps I wish they went like Infinity Blade and ran 30fps and make the graphics look better they are too rough.

I'm a big fan of the first epoch and this one is just as good if not better. Same game play and great graphics as the first, but new game mechanics and customizable features not on the first. You can melee other robots now! And there's a fast reload feature that's almost similar to GoW that if timed right makes your weapon beast. Definitely worth the price. I'd pay more for it.

EPOCH 2 has great gameplay and fun with awesome graphics but really the first day it came out I saw epoch 2 released and I bought it but today I see it for 50% why didn't you do that on the first day especially since that was the first day of launch it's worth 6$ but I could've used that extra 3 for another good app to buy.

I loved Epoch 1 and played it all the way through twice. It was exceptionally well done the difficulty was just right and the gameplay was perfect.

I expected the same thing when i bought Epoch 2. The graphics are better and the gameplay has been slightly modified for a better experience, there is one major flaw however, the difficulty level. This i by far one on of the hardest ios games i have ever played. Even with a credit doubler i still cant get enough credits to buy the upgrades to even give me a fighting chance for the next mission.

This is a well designed game but be warned it will get incredibly frustrating early on.

Bottom line: everything is perfect except for the difficulty.

As an avid IOS gamer myself, I have played a great share of IOS games. When the first epoch came out, I bought it purely out of curiosity. It turned out to be a great game, but lacked dialogue. It had STORY, but no actual dialogue. The gameplay was a bit repetetive, but addicting. This sequel however, took care of all the tiny flaws the original had. Top noch graphics, actual dialogue, interesting intercepts, great gameplay, and MUCH more robot variety. Great game, Uppercut!

It is HARD. Seriously. If you don't plan to spend hours screaming at your phone because sniper bots killed you once again, I actually wouldn't recommend it. However: it is an incredible game, easy to learn and freakin' impossible to master, and you can pick it up at 7AM and not check the clock again until noon (true story). So if you're patient and stubborn, go ahead and buy; it's worth the $6. (And so are the permanent double credits.) But if you're not very experienced with these games... Good luck.

There is one major difference between this game and the first one: Epoch 2 is hard. Brutally hard. Unlike the first game, which gently guided you through how to play, let you get a feel for the mechanics and have a good look around before knocking your block off, this game goes straight for the head shot almost right out of the chute. It's much faster and MUCH nastier, which may be a good thing if you're into twitch gaming. Unfortunately, it needs to be optimized a bit more as it has trouble recognizing and executing player moves as they are made. This means that sometimes a move is queued up with others, and sometimes it is just ignored with no feedback to the player. But is it fun? Yes, oh yes. Worth the price.

+ Excellent use of swipe controls in a game (just like the first).

Cons

- Punishing difficulty, even at low levels.

- System needs optimization, misses or delays player actions.

I played a ton of the first EPOCH, but for I'm playing on an iPhone 4 and for some reason EPOCH.2 looks like crap on it :/ muddy flat textures and in desperate need of anti aliasing or something, when the first one looks super nice on it, even Infinity Blade 2 has real nice shading and extra effects and it's on the same engine. Just wish you could give us an update so that the sequel doesn't look worse than the first game on iPhone 4 at least, other than that it's still a good game and fun, so keep up the good work
