Started off great, but it has gotten worse

I used to really love this app and I was paying for it also and not just using the free version. I’d say in the past six months it’s been identifying birds wrong, missing bird visits, and also just saying generically this is a bird lol — a general waste of your money.

Battery won't charge to 100%

I like the layout of your app but recently my battery won't charge to 100% and when I can get it charge to 79% it won't hold the charge for long on my solar charger. I've not had a problem with it until a week ago.

Nothing but headaches

This worked fine until I purchased the premium subscription, and then its constantly fails to record or identify birds. It frequently indicates that there is no WiFi connection when I attempt to go to livestream, even though a check of the WiFi connection in the app shows a high level of connection. We were so excited to have this feeder, but it’s been a big disappointment, and now it’s just a plain old birdfeeder with no viewing etc.

Horrible App

Was very fun at first, but the WiFi got disconnected and I was unable to connect it again. Just hit lots of error messages saying it couldn’t connect (despite working for several weeks). Very disappointed.

App works, flood of push notifications to upgrade

The app works well enough. It’s maybe not the most well designed thing in the world, but it gets you the pictures and videos of the birds. The problem is, I would say it sends me at least 2 to 4 push notifications to upgrade to their higher premium services every day. I would turn the push notifications off, but then I lose the push notifications for when the birds arrive at the feeder. I’m coming to regret the purchase purely from the problematic notifications.

2.4GHz needed to work

This bird camera will NOT work if your home is set up as a 5GHz WiFi connection. This only works with a 2.4GHz WiFi connection that is much slower. So in order to use this bird feeder, I would need to manually slow my WiFi connection. So I am forced with the choice between watching Netflix movies, or watching the same bird eat seeds. I will choose streaming service. Good bye bird feeder. Too bad you didn’t work.

Should be easier to set this up. I’ve spent over an hour and a half now trying to get it to pair up. I have many devices and many gadgets in my house, but this one is ridiculous.. The construction is solid. The camera looks great, but the software to connect is junk.

Hours I’ll never get back

I spent the better part of a day trying to get this app to connect to my Wi-Fi—literally hours. I read countless reviews and tried every suggestion I could find, but nothing worked.

Finally, I came across a review that recommended using the Tuya app instead. Since Tuya is the camera manufacturer, I decided to give it a try. The Tuya app found my camera and connected to my Wi-Fi immediately.

It captures bird activity with video and sound just like the Birdty app, and I was up and running within minutes.

A huge thank you to the reviewer who shared this solution. It saved me a lot of time and frustration!

Privacy Nightmare Disguised as a Bird Feeder

The bird feeder itself is a decent concept, but everything else about this product is a complete disaster. The app is outrageously invasive and demands an absurd amount of permissions that no bird feeder should ever need, including precise location, microphone access, storage access, and even information about other apps installed on your phone. The privacy policy reads like a giant red flag, vague, overly broad, and clearly designed to let them collect and share as much data as possible without accountability.

The software feels like some cheap, slapped-together white-label IoT garbage rather than a real consumer product. Setup was infuriating, unreliable, and completely dependent on their cloud services. I genuinely regretted connecting this thing to my network at all. Between the terrible software, invasive data collection, and sketchy privacy practices, this product feels more like spyware with a bird feeder attached. If you value your privacy or cybersecurity even a little, stay far away from this product.

It worked beautifully for a few weeks, then stopped recording. Can’t get it to work again. I was also disappointed after installing it to realize that it does not identify the birds for you unless you pay attention a monthly membership fee. There are many fee apps available, so I just use one of them.

Intuitive is not how you would describe this app. It’s a game of hide and go seek to update your WiFi and to turn on or off notifications. I love the camera when things are set up, but if you need to make a change give yourself an hour.

Super Support

I can’t say enough good things about the support group for this app and the people behind the solar bird feeder. I love the way the feeder captures the action every time the birds drop by for a meal. I didn’t know we had so many varieties of birds in our yard. When I have done something stupid in the app and messed things up they answer my email within 24 hours with easy to follow instructions. This bird feeder with the app have been an excellent addition to our yard.

1 hour later…

After messing with the camera and app for an hour i finally just gave up connected it to the camera manufacturer app (Tuya) and it worked immediately. So I guess there’s something wrong with this app that wouldn’t allow easy, manual, or AP mode connections. The instruction and FAQ don’t help. They just say connect to a 2.4 network. Bummer. Just use Tuya and don’t waste your time.

Drop the Temu ads

App is generally good, but in the free version at least there is a Sponsor banner ad element that someone needs to seriously look at. It always has 6 tiny little thumbnails of abstract forms that are vaguely sexual at first glance and not family friendly looking—but it’s like nude tone clothing from Temu. Whyyy? So annoying and irrelevant. I’ve never bought anything from Temu, and why the click-bait obscenities on this platform? I guess because it makes you go, “WTF IS THIS?” and it gets you.

Ads? Fine if you must, but also do better for your nature loving audience than Temu garbage.

Beyond that rant, camera sensor is hyper sensitive, captures tiny flickers of car lights through my fence; wouldn’t mind a smarter sensor to reduce this. I want notifications for birds and animals, and maybe even people—but not every car that goes by.

Nice gift for bird enthusiast

The feeder was easy to put together and set up. The camera gives high quality footage and captures the bird songs and sounds. The squirrel alarm is sometimes effective but if you don’t actually go out and scare the squirrel off they learn to ignore the alarm. I’m surprised that the camera tho on night sensor didn’t catch the deer eating feed (there’s hoof prints all over the ground so they were there!) I’ve been having an issue with recharging the camera indoors with outlet it’s very very slow to recharge (more than a week!) and may have to get another one. It’s supposed to also recharge with the solar panel which I don’t if that works simply because there’s not much sun hitting it. Otherwise I love it the bird Id also worked just fine and accurately. Located in CT.

The bird feeder runs of ai which you think is smart, but you are wrong, the ai has a feature which allows it to send you notifications when it sees a bird which seems like a good thing so I turned it on and then a few minutes later it says that there is a bird and wen I look there’s not a single little bird, but that’s not all the bird feeder comes with a solar panel which is a very good thing because then you will be able to charge it because the battery life is very short, until you realize why your bird feeder is not connected to the internet even though it is on the wall of your house, is due to the solar panel, which then leaves you with a short amount of battery life for you’re bird feeder.😡😡😡😡😡😠

Worked Great for a week

This was amazing for about a week. Then it stopped working because firmware needed to be downloaded. The app gave me no way to download that firmware. I’ve deleted and redownloaded the app numerous times hoping to start from scratch. Nope. When I attempt to connect manually, I am stuck in a loop where it blinks green but goes no further.

Definitely needs some work

1) I finally found where the automatically recorded clips are stored. It’s under Devices Messages not Album which I would expect where pictures would be. The reason why is that is important is when you click on the notification on your home screen and Birdty is already open in the background it can do several things but not one of them is bring you to the movie clips it notified you about. It will usually close Birdty or bring you to the home screen of Birdty. If Birdty is closed when you click on a notification it seems to go straight to the movie clips. 2) in the album the date is wrong. It seems to be a day behind. 3) I think also in the album I got a pop up error message in Chinese. I haven’t been able to recreate it. 4) The help section is nice on the main screen but the explanations in the light gray are very hard to read. Why can’t they be in black like the headings? Please be mindful of those of us with older eyes.

Working Fine for Me, Love It!

I was gifted this bird feeder/camera for Christmas. We immediately got it set up and mounted outside the kitchen window. Took a couple days, but a young male cardinal eventually became our first bird. Then, a female and an older male cardinal, resplendent in red, and a little finch, and now we’ve worked up to titmice, red winged blackbirds and black capped chickadees. The app and camera had to be reconnected once, other than that it’s working perfectly. Fingers crossed, all the bugs are being worked out! Thank you!! 😍🐦‍⬛📲

Won’t connect

Trying for ever to connect the device to wifi. Made sure it’s 2.4ghz. Device does a double ding and turns green but that’s as far as it goes. Help Center says after the ding to select you heard it. My set up says “it will automatically go to next screen”. It doesn’t. Can’t manually get it to go to next screen. Stuck in an endless loop of “connect to WiFi” “ding ding!”. To those that got past the point of set up, you’re lucky. It’s a nice looking bird feeder but the camera is impossible to set up for me. Idk why. Watched videos, read the manual, etc. Not helpful.

App won’t log me in anymore

I got this Christmas 2025 and everything was fine I could log on and show people how cool it is to see the birds that came but today January 10. 2026 I put my info in and check the box and the log in button will NOT work! I’ve deleted and reinstalled. I’ve turned of my phone and reinstalled. I’ve even reset the internet. Oh and changed my password too. Nothing is working and this has been a very frustrating experience.

Extremely disappointed

We have tried to connect this for over an hour. Restarted the router in the house, contacted our cable company and have done everything possible. I get as far as a double ding and a flashing green light. It won’t go to the next page. It recognizes the QR, but that’s it. It won’t process it so this is going back… Merry Christmas to me.☹️😠

AI identification is horrible

First off, the setup was easy. The camper is actually great! It had fixed focus on the feeding zone, so anything that is more than a foot away will look blurry. This is by design though.

The AI identification is total garbage though. I’d be surprised if 1 out of 50 identifications are right. There is no way to leave feedback as well, so clearly the developers don’t care if they get it right. We have had about 200 notifications since we set it up but only one time it identified the correct bird.

If you don’t care about the AI identification, this is perfect for you. If you buy it for that, just don’t….

It works, but…

We got a smart birdfeeder from Costco for my elderly parents for Christmas.

First, what works well: notifications for the camera spotting a bird are coming through fine. We can also see videos by visiting the “Device Messages”, but videos and images are not being automatically saved to the app’s album, which was confusing for my parents. Aside from that, video looks good and is timestamped. Everything else about the app is pretty poor though.

There are many confusing buttons strewn across the app. The main page of the app shows a bunch of videos submitted by other users, which is also confusing to my parents. We could care less about other people’s videos. There are buttons for FAQs and Help, but the literature is clearly talking about lightbulbs and scenes, which make me believe the company is lumping help files in from their other products. It’s clearly made by someone who has English as a second language, and it’s strange to throw a bunch of help files for other products in the app when it is clearly focused on their birdfeeder cameras.

We subscribed to the cloud storage and AI features, which was challenging and we presented with inconsistent price points depending on which subscription link we clicked on. Now that we are subscribed to the annual plan, it is not identifying birds and I can’t figure it out for my parents, it’s not obvious anywhere how to enable the AI features once you’ve subscribed. We only see the same timestamped videos with a “share” and “download” button. Saving to the album also does not trigger AI features. I can’t find any help regarding this feature, which was the main selling point for the subscription.

Anyway, I think the low score on this app is well deserved. It is half baked.

Great single user option

I bought this hoping to share with a few friends and family. It says you can share your camera with others if they download the Birdty app. Nope. I’ve sent sharing requests but when you follow the directions nothing matches what is written. You try to use the FAQ that has actual photo instructions. Nope. The photos don’t match what I see on my app. Works great for me to use on my phone. Don’t get this if you think you’d like a friend or family member to see the birds at your house.

I cannot get this app to work. I get alerts saying there is motion detected but when I click there is no photo or video shown. Yes I subscribed to the cloud storage. I can hear the squirrel alarm from my bedroom whenever it goes off, but the squirrels do not give a darn about it. I get 100 squirrel notifications but maybe 3 bird notifications. The app will only record movement for about a month and will need a subscription to continue saving videos to your device. I got this as a birthday gift, i enjoyed getting to see videos of birds and animals that came to my feeder. I am very disappointed

Not easy to use

The app is slow to update and not extremely intuitive to use. Seems to be ok with videos, but can’t figure out how to stop the movement videos and just see the video with a bird visitor.

Sharing impeded; CLUNKY video management.

Pretty neat to see hummers up close, but saving or sharing videos is obscure. An earlier version of the app worked better. No way to ignore wind effects of vegetation and to focus on birds. The misspellings in what little verbiage exists, and absolute lack of customer support make this developer suspect. Very low quality software for a doorbell cam fitted into a bottle for hummingbird sucrose solution.

The feeder is great quality and the solar power is a perfect addition. The app needs work. It crashes while using it often, and the AI is not accurate most of the time. Scrolling through footage should be easier than it is. App needs some fine tuning for sure. Feeder 10/10 app 4/10 :(

Horrible app

I get like 200 notifications a day that "little animal guests" have been detected at my bird feeder, and maybe 1 notification a week that a BIRD has been detected at my bird feeder. I don't blame the app for ask the squirrels visiting, but if it can tell the difference between a squirrel and a bird, why is there no way to turn off squirrel notifications and only keep bird notifications? There is literally no setting for this. I can turn off all notifications (defeating the entire point of the app), or I can keep them on and get dozens of notifications every hour about squirrels visiting. FURTHERMORE, the app does frequently SAY (and send me a notification) that the bird feeder has "automatically evicted little animal guests." I have zero idea what this means since the squirrels are always still there after it says that, and nothing appears to be happening in response to their presence. A close relative bought this feeder as a gift for us or I would ABSOLUTELY return it.

Not a good app

Hard to get this birdfeeder set up with the app. I’ve spent hours trying to get it to connect. Then I got it to connect, set it up in the backyard with a good connection to my WiFi. It disconnected immediately. Brought the camera back in and it seems to be working but the app says there’s no device. Call CS and he said to remove the app from my phone and start all over. I probably have 5+ hrs trying to get this thing to work. Returning it to Costco.

Easy to use

Easy to set up and use. We don’t have the subscription, but everything else seems stable and working good. We were worried about squirrels, then noticed a squirrel deterrent in an update and it works great!!! Very pleased.

Constant MisIdentification

I am in North Texas. Except in the zoo I have never seen an Emu nor an African Finfoot. The Emu was actually a Squirrel and the African Finfoot was a BlueJay. A Wasp was identified as a House Finch.

I am paying for this constant misidentification? I still can’t figure out how to cancel the pay service since it is useless.

I like the videos, but the identification service isn’t worth it!!

Overheats Phone/Kills Battery

Kills my battery and overheats my phone like no other app on my phone. It’s insane. Open for 5 minutes and 10% battery is drained and my phone is hot to the touch. Seems to require too much out of my phone which is an IPhone 14 Pro still on good condition. I do get many alerts and video quality is decent but the app is killing my phone.

Love the camera, subscription not worth a dime

This is typical: In five hours this morning, the bird identifier named 10 different birds, 7 of which are native to Asia and South America, not possible in Virginia, USA. Do not be a sucker and pay for the subscription like I did until reviews show they’ve fixed their AI abilities.

Horrible App

The fact that looking at a video of the bird recording will heat up my phone so much that it powered down is a bad sign. Alert times aren’t accurate, sometimes can’t see the videos at all, and all the additional “features” like recognition or when it scares away a squirrel, you have to pay for. The actual product is nice but I want to return it for the app alone.

Could be better

It works but we have a tree that keeps setting off the camera and we get a notification because if it. When we finally got a bird visitor we noticed that the program can distinguish between bird and just movement as it said a bird was detected. Please add an option in the notifications panel to just get notifications when a bird is detected.

Nice bird feeder but…

We apparently have tropical parrots in North Carolina…? The AI identification tool works 10% of the time. And for some reason I cannot figure out how to export the videos to my iPhone. This should be a basic feature, correct? When I save the video it is saved in the cloud accessible in the app only and I’m unable to share any photos or videos. The share feature is either hidden unnecessarily or they need to add it. If we can’t share the videos what’s this all been about! Ha!

Won’t Stay Connected

Have to keep walking in to my backyard with my photo to get it connected, yet my ring security cameras are even out further. I have signal booster through out my property to keep the WiFi range open no matter where in the yard you are. Never had so much trouble with such a device

Wind sets off feeder every few minutes.

The wind sets off the feeder every few minutes. No birds at all. Instructions are terrible. They tell you how to set it up, but there is no FAQ. I can’t find any phone number to call them and I can’t find any sensitivity settings on the actual app. I am about done.

Horrible app

I wanted to be alerted when I had birds at my feeder - specifically so I could shoo off the nuisance birds (starlings, I’m looking at you). No dice. No alerts, even though they’re turned on. No notifications unless I have the app open and I’m staring at the screen.

The camera itself has lovely photo ability, but you have to download the video and edit to get a screenshot. Or you have to be watching live to grab a photo.

The single time AI tried to identify a bird, it was identified as something not from anywhere near me (Midwest). I laughed it off and will continue using Merlin if I get anything other than my typical songbirds.

Good camera, bad bird recognition

The camera works great, and I love getting videos of the birds on my feeder. This feeder was on sale at Costco and was less than half the price of the other brand I’ve used. I did the free trial and that tells you the names of the birds, and it was terrible at that. Only a few birds named correctly, the rest either unnamed or obviously wrong. I’ll keep the feeder for the bird videos, but I won’t pay the subscription

This worked just fine until you made these improvements. All the features I enjoyed are gone. I am not interested in Instagram like features. I just want to be able to tap and see what is at my feeder in real time. And scare off animal guests. Can you plz bring that feature back?

Has anyone else experienced:

After reviewing several videos (like at least a dozen) - this app becomes unresponsive, and in turn iPhone becomes unresponsive- even failing to immediately respond to restart (power button + up volume)?
