Great, fun memories.

Using this app has been super fun to be able to create a unique photo but a memory to remember and fun unique scenarios. This will forever be a favorite app.

If they could, I’d love to be able to see a feature where you could take photos after the fact that have been taken from the normal camera app or outsourced from a camera and imported into the app to be filtered with the look they have that would be cool.

Amazing and Worthwhile

I LOVE taking photos on my iPhone but found myself getting stuck when it came to editing them how I envisioned. I’ve gone through so many various filter/photography apps and became frustrated with too many options and customizations, on top of most great things being stuck behind a costly subscription.

After some late night doomscrolling on the App Store, I came across this and was very intrigued. Boy am I BEYOND glad I stumbled across this gem because it’s amazing. It’s made taking photos so much more exciting, you really can’t go wrong with ANY of the filters plus the community made ones are equally amazing. I hope it continues to grow and people continue contributing their custom filters! Definitely well worth a one time payment and I’d suggest it to anyone who loves taking photos but hates the stress of trying to edit them afterwards. Thank you for building something amazing!!

brought fun back to phone photography

within my film photography experience, the results of all the filters feel truly authentic enough to satisfy my needs with phone photos again. I’ve been ‘shooting’ again with this app a whole lot, only took me that one week trial to make that forever purchase. the options within create-your-own-filter are fantastic too, especially given that it includes HDR, halation, grains, etc. seeing these results, it’s not hard to respect the choices this app creator stands by.

The Best Camera App for Beginners and Experts

This app is fantastic. It’s made me fall in love with taking pictures on my phone again after being disappointed with pictures coming out “off” from how I wanted them to be despite having a great camera. Love love this app, so easy to use, limitless customization, well worth the $15 for lifetime use. Only bug ive seen is sometimes when I change the film sim and visually it still shows the name and card of the previous one next to the shutter, like it will get stuck on one sim unless I restart the app. Purely a visual bug and not enough to detract a star :)

Such a great UI and real film-like filters. It has the right amount of settings to tweak it to your liking, and the $15 lifetime upgrade option was well worth it. If i could only scan QR codes and record video this might replace the camera app for good

Go to Camera App

Shout out to the creator for continuously improving the app and making it that much more enjoyable to use. When I first downloaded it I mostly used it adjacent to regular camera app as a fun film emulator, but after the updates of custom settings, the frames, and just more little details that made your pictures feel that much more unique to you it became the only app I used to take pictures. I’ve used it extensively on trips and had other friends ask about the app too.

Not to mention pricing model was great as well, seeing apps offer lifetime access always is very enticing.

Absolutely the best alternative to the default camera app out there. Not only are the built in film presets great, the custom filters add a layer of customization that gives you endless flexibility. I shoot both digital and film but don’t always have a camera on me, so this is a must have when casually out and about.

Mood is essentially my default camera app. I love trying out all the simulations, and finding the right one for each situation. It’s also great to just know that the point and shoot workflow has been perfected, that editing is no longer needed.

i love EVERYTHING about this app except..

shortcut options are limited. other camera apps allow for use of the camera control button to launch them or at least have lock screen shortcut buttons. the way this app handles shortcuts is through the shortcuts app rather than offering native buttons. please update this!! i want mood to be my every day main camera app but until i can launch it with a single button, it’ll be relegated to my “once in a while” app.

It’s been a long time since I wrote a review for an app. But this one I have to say is caught my attention. Like other people have said here it creates an intentionality for photography that I had long since lost.

Add in the fact that they’re not harvesting data and there was a one time purchase option (I wish subscriptions would go away forever) makes this a real winner for me. I hope the developer adds more features later but right now it’s pretty close to perfect as it is.

Love this app

As a casual photographer this app is my favorite to use for capturing images. It brings so many cool and beautiful looking filters/emulations that fit the aesthetic that I’ve been looking for. I’ve been really wanting to buy a camera that captures the vibe that I want but they are so expensive these days, even older models from 10+ years ago. The name “Mood” is so fitting because it really does bring the mood I’m looking for to my photos. Just get it

For a long time I was looking for a similar app, but I was never 100% convinced. I’m an amateur photographer who enjoys using point and shoot cameras, and I was even considering getting a new PaS cam. Then I thought: if I already have an iPhone 16, I can practically do the same thing and I always have it with me.

I downloaded the app, and when I saw the possibilities in the settings, I didn’t hesitate and paid for the lifetime version.

Exceeds Expectations

This app has changed the way I use my phone for photography. I would say it brings some of the magic of a 35mm point and shoot as well as a modern Fujifilm to the camera that you always have with you. The film emulations are superb in terms of color, grain and detail. There’s a large amount of customizability for the stock presets as well as the ability to create your own with a lot of nuance and control over how your photos look. There is a small but vibrant community growing on Reddit and Instagram sharing photos and custom presets to try out. The photos produced are a notable improvement over the stock camera app, especially on iPhones that have more heavy handed processing like the 13 pro in my experience. It took me a while to decide to spend $15 on an app but once I made the decision I never looked back, it really is worth it if it meets your needs as a photographer.

Endless Emulation Options

I only had to use the app for about 20 minutes before I knew I was buying the lifetime membership. Letting users upload their custom recipes to share and tweak is such a fun way to get inspiration, and the presets are already incredibly well made. Brings character back to the iPhone camera

I’ve been consistently disappointed with the overdone HDR, sharpening, and processing done by the stock camera app. So much so to the point I kinda stopped taking as many photos of my iPhone. This app has changed that for me, and I’ve been having tons of fun taking photos of everyday life once again. Best of all, the photos come out looking like the fuzzy warm memories that you remember when you shot them. Kudos to the developer for offering a perpetual license option- I would gladly pay more for it.

The Only Photo App That Actually Feels Worth Paying For

Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate this beautiful app you’ve created. I recently upgraded from the free version, and it’s been such a worthwhile investment. Beyond the film-vibe photos, the clean design and the helpful guidance with each setting make the experience so easy and enjoyable.

As someone who gets overstimulated carrying too many devices on trips, having a phone app that gives me a film feel brings so much comfort. Many reviewers may ask for preset previews, but I actually love that there aren’t any. It helps me move away from perfection and embrace little surprises and imperfections—which makes taking photos more meaningful for me.

A sweet journey into old Point n Shoots

This app is awesome!!! It totally reminds me of the 90’s when film cameras were in their prime. The different emulation options make it feel like grabbing different rolls of film to expose. The grain structure on these images truly feel like film and not computer image processing pipelines. It is really amazing and nostalgic! This is my favorite photo app! Looks promising

I was able to use it without having to agree to anything that would later charge me if I didn’t cancel like other camera apps do to people. I am able to use this app to decide if it actually makes a difference vs the iOS camera app. So far it seems like it works and makes photos more appealing for minimal editing afterwards.

Best Film Camera App

This was the ninth camera app I tried using as my main one. I’ve used more since, but this was this is the one that has taken permanent residence on my homepage and lock screen. The simulations are by far the best I’ve used and I find myself picking up my phone for a photo even when I have my nice mirrorless camera with me. This app has changed the way I do photography. I cannot recommend this app any more highly. The one missing feature is camera button compatibility. I would also love if there was a corresponding desktop editing software or Lightroom plugin for this apps simulation system.

Reawakening photography instincts

Mood camera has really pushed me to concentrate on shooting more than editing, something that has waned since I began exclusively using my phone for photos. I often looked at various editing apps to try to bring back that feeling of shooting film, (or shooting with a DSLR even) but I didn’t realize that what was missing was not how the end result looked but more about how I was shooting. Getting to know this app reminds me of being a newbie at photography (back when all we had was film) - I feel like I’m retraining my brain and it’s a good challenge. The lack of a preview keeps me in the moment and also forces me to really get to know the presets and what works best for which shooting situations - much like learning what film to use. I can also tweak the presets to my liking and save my own custom versions. I deeply appreciate the amount of work Alex has put into this app and its philosophy and am also enjoying the community that has sprung up around it. If you want to get more into the moment with your photo captures and less in your head worrying about the final result, this is the app for you.

Fun to play around with, rewarding to master

I’ve always loved taking artsy pics with my phone but noticed it definitely over-sharpens a lot of things. Was looking for a way to get more natural looking photos for a long time and this definitely does the best at it. Lets you get that classic school look without being gimmicky or superficial about it.

Loved trying all the different films. Took me awhile to figure out which types look best in different situations. There is definitely a chance to mess things up so take your time. You can take pics that look super high quality or mess them up with some crazy settings. Up to you!

Not great, but good

The different film sims/filters are great, but the UI really makes taking photos an unpleasant experience. I use an iPhone SE3, so maybe my screen is smaller than most users, but using this app is like looking through a submarine periscope. The top bar settings and the bottom film selection/shutter trigger take up about 40-50% of the overall screen area, even on the larger ratios. It’s quite dire compared to the iOS stock camera app. It takes away from one of the things I like most about iPhone photography which is having such a large/bright viewfinder compared to many other digital cameras.

Amazing App

I saw this app mentioned on a YT video and wanted to give it a shot. I was blown away by how much the shots resemble film. I love that you can make custom presets of your own inspired by the film you love. Kudos to the developer for making this wonderful camera app and I look forward to what else is in store for it. Impressive substitute for my expensive digital camera

I sold my $1k Ricoh GR3 because I was worried about breaking it due to having it on bike rides and motorcycle rides through the desert in extreme temperatures. I was sad that I couldn’t keep a camera on me when I wanted to without worry or bulk. I sadly decided to try mobile photography but thrilled to find this app is able to replicate much of what I was doing with my Ricoh similarly. I’ve never bought an app until now. Thank you.

Honestly the best

Mood is hands down one of the best camera apps I’ve ever used. It’s beautifully designed, incredibly intuitive, and has genuinely made me fall in love with photography all over again. Every detail feels purposeful, and the results I get with it are consistently stunning.

Absolutely amazing

This is hands down the best camera app I have ever used and I have used tons of them. Yes, it’s a simple concept but it is so joyful to use. This reminds me of shooting a Fuji X100 camera. The film simulations and the handling are very natural and organic and the results are simply gorgeous. These photos look like memories and that’s the best compliment I can give a camera app.

Great app but it messes with the screen brightness and music volume

I loved this app so much that I just purchased it outright, but the next day I used it, the process went really slow and would dim my screen, although my phone says its brightness is pushed to the max. It does the same for the volume of my music being played at the time without me touching the volume controls. This dimming goes on in varying degrees for a while.

For research purposes I am using iPhone 14 pro.

Best money I’ve spent on an app

I have been taking photos for the past 10 years shot on DSLR mirror less and this app has really changed how I use my iihone and I’m using my main Fujifilm camera less now because it produces such excellent photos. The app is incredibly well designed with thoughtful features and updates. Alex keeps making it better(not like it needs it haha) and I’m excited to see what comes ahead!

BUY this! THE BEST APP EVER

I’m a photographer and I’ve tried many apps that simply don’t work or get the look and feel of classic film right. This app nails it and is so easy to use! With the latest update you can create your own custom film sims to mimic Fuji, Kodak, etc…they also have blooming, halation, and aberration now which just unheard of and best of all, it looks real!

What I also love is they remove the over sharpened computational photography and use their own processing to give you a softer less sharpened image which just looks amazing.

I was feeling the exact same way as Alex with taking photos on my phone, or in general. It is such a chore to edit and this takes that out of it and just lets you enjoy the process and the fun of just taking photos while also allowing it to feel like film without the cost involved of it. This is the one

Been searching for a third party camera app for awhile, and I've finally found the one. Why I love this app:

1. Gorgeous design. Fun to use. Opinionated. Satisfying sounds and haptics. UI that makes me want to take more pics.

2. This app fixes the iPhone over processing problem. Even when I apply no film emulations, my photos look like real photos - not overprocessed smartphone standard. And you have control over how much it does this.

3. But when I do use the film emulations, they're GORGEOUS. Tasteful.

4. One time lifetime purchase.

5. Supportive reddit community.

Thanks to the devs for building a gem of an app. I wish more apps were like this one.

Lots of great presets through a smooth interface

As someone that wanted to level up my photography without the heavy investment of a fancy camera, this app is the best next step. I mainly wanted to add flair to my photos little effort.

The app is pretty easy to pick up and works smoothly. I love the presets on this app, plus you can adjust the grain and tone in each preset.

Wonderful App, few problems

I’ve been into film photography for 10 years now, and this app is the only thing that has scratched that same itch for me in an iPhone format. I use it as my main camera and it makes me want take so many more pictures on my phone, since i know they’ll look good and i won’t have to edit them later. There are issues sometimes, where the processing will give a weird artifacts on a picture, or sometimes when i take pictures the app will freeze up and won’t save the photos. But after a recent update i haven’t experienced either issue again. Hope this app continues to grow and receive updates!

finally, soft photos!

Somewhere along the line, phone cameras became less about capturing moments and more about cramming as much detail and DATA as possible into a picture. This app brings soul and personality back to phone photography in ways that I had given up on. Every picture makes me smile.

I will mention - I’m typically more of a video guy when it comes to capturing moments, and so while I do understand the dev’s intent with this app, I would pay anything for video functionality. Absolutely anything. But thank you for creating this regardless!

Perfect when it works…

The film emulation and the quality of the images are great. The different film stocks are unique and changing settings are easy. The only downside of this app is the exposure. Whenever taking a picture for the first time opening the app, the first image comes out wayyy underexposed. It’s a little annoying and makes me check every image I take right after I take it; the exact opposite of the intention of the app. If the developer ever fixes this issue, the app will be perfect. I am rating 5 stars because I see the potential of the app and the fact that the developer appears to have made this entirely by themselves.

My go to vintage camera app!

I love vintage camera apps, I’ve tried a bunch over the years. Some are really great others not so much. Mood is a great app in that regards, as it produces realistic looking vintage pics, and gives some manual control. The provided filters can be tweaked as needed, and that is really cool. I do wish however that it gave the option to import pics and apply filters. And also that it saved a copy of a pic with and without filter. Otherwise it’s a great app, with easy and quick controls. Highly recommended to anyone with a tooth for vintage photography!

XPro 2

I am a long time photographer and XPro2 user and I just found Mood after using many good photography apps over the years. But the color rendition and palettes on Mood are amazing! The chrome colors are spot on and the interface is clean and easy to use. I have shared the app with my wife and she is also enjoying it, her first 3rd party photo app. Lastly this is the first app that I have bought in years! Well worth the cost!

Makes taking photos fun again!

This app has changed how I used my phone. I’m going out being creative again and having fun snapping some photos. Excited to see this community grow and more filters potentially being created.

Cheers to the dev! Easiest $15 I’ve ever spent. I’m so happy we can’t just edit camera roll photos either. There’s something addicting about taking photos, throwing the phone in the pocket, and checking what “developed” later. Even though it’s only a few seconds, it’s more fun sometimes to wait until later to check the shots.

Many things to enjoy here! Here are a few potential improvements.

I love the look and feel of this app. The way it makes the photos taken on my iPhone look is incredible! 3 small requests: 1.) Please allow importing batch images from the camera roll to have processing applied. As a Sony shooter, an app could be our replacement for Fuji Recipes! 2.) Allow minor adjustments to settings prior or after said batch import to get the perfect vibe across the set.

3.) Allow individual minor adjustments post import or capture to make it stand out from the rest.

Other than that, this app nails all the things I’m looking for!

Convenient, affordable, high engagement from developer

Easily takes beautiful photos. For a newbie like me, I love the options available and gentle guides to the different settings available. I travel a lot and it’s a very convenient way to take stunning photos with just my iPhone. Plus the one-time lifetime membership fee is extremely affordable imo. On top of all that, Alex the developer is super active on Reddit and engages with followers of that sub. He’s very intentional about his design choices and is willing to go into depth about why a certain functionality is/ is not available on the app

One of the best app taking perfect pictures

I used the app for current trips and I took really good filmy style pictures with all of the presets.

The interface is comfortable, but I wish the camera could took like burst style pictures, because once you click to take a picture it takes a little bit of delay, so if you want to catch something real quick you can miss it easily. I wish this app had a video mode where you can take videos with same style, I don’t know if that would be technically possible but would make the app even perfect!

This Alex developer is Brilliant

The fact that the app doesn’t let you edit existing photos is brilliant, I am a pro photographer since 14 years, and I can’t help it, but say that this app is a standalone situation, I don’t know what kind of wizardry it uses in order to achieve it’s portrait mode, and the analog filers are probably batter than most apps available.

Brings Fun Back to Photo Taking

I have been messing with the mood app the last few weeks while on vacation in Europe. It has been fun and very useful to get very appealing, analog, creative shots while walking about. Really tons of fun. The plus is you don’t have to give up your Full Size Image as there is a setting when to take pictures to have both a Mood one saved and an original photo without the filter applied. Very handy so you don’t need to make a choice on a moment or a shot and have it only go one way which may or may not work out.

I still have to dig deeper, and these options may exist already, but my only asks are to make sure the original photo being saved is in RAW Max format as an option (it just says original now) and that you could apply the filters to any photos after the fact. That would open up endless possibilities but I also understand it’s all about the moment. Great fun, thank you for creating the app!

Magnificent

I was a beta tester for this app, and the official release is magnificent. It's just really easy to use, polished, and doesn't do all the over-sharpening found in the stock camera app. I think the developer nailed the one-time price option along with the subscription model as well. This is definitely a worth-while camera app for creatives or even just people that want to tinker.

Perfection

This is an outstanding, fast, stable camera app that does exactly what I need and exactly what it says. It has intuitive controls, a nice selection of filters (dare I say “moods”), and did I mention it’s fast? There is no social, no mandatory subscription (though I would happily support an app like this), no begging for App Store ratings, no dark patterns, just an excellent, well-considered experience that reminds me of the enthusiasm and quality of the first generation of iOS camera apps.

The BEST “film” camera app!

Used this app during beta testing, and quickly fell in love with it. The film choices are a perfect representation of the classics we all started with before digital. The fact that you don’t see the finished image in the viewfinder adds to the feel of waiting for your images to be developed. (Don’t worry…you don’t actually have to wait…they’re in the app/your camera roll.) Plenty of quality/tone options, with sample images to show you the results. And the best part for me is no subscription model! Lifetime access is a game changer for me. Definitely recommend.
