I use this app constantly…but
I love this app for teaching vocabulary to multi-lingual learners and to help my clients practice high-frequency sight words. I just wish it was more intuitive to use and that questions could be submitted for answering. Videos would be helpful, too. It will send messages saying I can’t access user stats because my account isn’t synced. But it is. It won‘t let me reset user stats. Creating classrooms…I have lots of input about how to make it more efficient. All of that said, I do use the app daily. It does what no other app does. I recommend it to other educators. I just wish it worked more efficiently and questions could be answered other than a Q and A page and a list of instructions.

Deal breaker bugs
I’m a long time user and while there is so much potential, there are still bugs/crashes that are dealbreakers. Currently I’m experiencing a Dropbox 409 error when trying to import boards from Dropbox. FIX ASAP and I’ll change my rating.

Incredible tool for education.
We have been using this tool for 10 years now. It is the only app that offers different practices with the same learning sets. We use it to teach code and languages.
We appreciate their being a student app without in-app purchases.
Since we work with remote students we are happy to be able to push changes to the content on students devices remotely, and also to login as students to see what they see when they are using the app.
The developer has been responsive to some requests and the app has always been updated with each OS update.
The presence of a time stamp on the score cards is extremely useful for educators to see not just completion and accuracy but also the time it took for the student to complete the task. Some learners simply need more time and understanding the time to complete a task allows us to adjust to the students needs.

Best App for Speech Therapists
I just want to thank the developers for continuing to update this app. I use it everyday during my therapy sessions. I don’t know what I would do without it. Many times a few minutes before a session I’ve decided I want to work on a new sound I’ll go to Bitsboard and come up with the flashcards I need. What a great tool!

Bad business practice!
I purchased this app a long time ago. The developer updated it and started to require subscriptions, so I lost a lot of features that came with the full purchase. I bought a new iPad and lost everything! I contacted the developer and they ignored my complaint and requests. Lost my money!

User Statistic
I love this app!But there is an issue with the user statistics. It is always loading and I need to input their grades. So when I open the user stats it just loads and I can’t view all their grades. Please help fix this issue. Mid-progress report is in a few days and I need the stats asap. Thank you

Uniquely Useful
I am so glad to see that this app is being updated again. It is uniquely useful as I teach adult ESL literacy students to read and write. The in-app audio and all the learning games have made it my go-to app. I wish it were available for Android as well because many of my students have only Android hand-held devices to practice with.

A Powerhouse
I have used this app for over 5 years, yes back when there were only 8 games, and it just keeps getting better. If you read a bad review trust me they never asked support for help because if you do, you’ll get it. When iOS 10 came out there were some pretty big snags, but they have been fixed. My students love this app. As a teacher I love being able to manage classes remotely, see usage and data for each student and adjust the content, delivery, and settings for each game they see and being able to turn off features they don’t need, can’t use or are not ready for. The app is a powerhouse. It comes with a learning curve because of the many options it offers, but it comes with great benefits along that curve. If you can teach a concept through flash cards, drill and practice activities or a card game, this app is worth looking into. It’s worth every penny if you are a teacher, and in the midst of Covid-19 it gives yet another way to engage students in learning, their app is free and you can see what and how they are doing with the app remotely. You can change what content is delivered and use data for progress reports... seriously? Yes.

Great for education
As a special education teacher, I love the ability to create boards that not only serve as an educational tool but also as a storage device to keep my supplies organized. My problem is that it continuously kicks me and my students out either during creation or during activities. It’s very frustrating for me and especially my students.

UNUSABLE
I suppose if you are looking for pre selected lists this may be helpful. Or if the only words you need to study are basic K-2 This is the only way I can imagine the amount of positive reviews it has received.
Trying to study for your spelling list at school or creat your own is a disaster of time suckage. In theory, to add words specific to you or your child, add a picture, add a description and have a test plus games would be amazing! In reality you will add words, pictures and boards just to find that they disappear. I have spent hours trying to create lists only to have them revert back to empty or the default (bizarre) picture.
The app crashes every 15 min or so and locks up periodically. Trust me I have tried everything! Like I said, if it worked it would be great! Unfortunately the program is just not there. This goes for all Bitsboard apps, I have tried several in past years, upgraded to PRO several times to no avail.
Don’t do what my family did, we wasted many hours and money. Tried again this week (2/2/20) to set up a board, spent at least 2 hrs, only to have the board disappear then reappear with half the words and back to the “default” pictures. Also on several games the audio does not work.

Very buggy
I love what this app does, but I hate how hard it is to create a board. It will freeze and crash or take several minutes to load one picture when creating a board. As a teacher I don’t have time to wait for this, or to have to find another device to finish the board. I will select pictures on one device, add it to a class and when I open it on another device it will have totally different pictures. I will have the settings to go through all of the bits, and then it will only go through a few. Very frustrating when I’m taking data. I have to start all over again. Even though this is very frustrating I love what this app can do and my students love it too. Please fix the bugs!

Some good, some not so good
Love the new QR code! Works great for my little guys and when they are the only ones logged in the app works. However when I am logged in as the super user the app crashes and is ridiculously slow to respond. It makes it extremely difficult to set up boards and classes. Please fix!

This is my 5th review,
In my last review I gave 5 stars as I had used app for about 2 years and usually the developers responded quickly to problems; however, this has not been the case this time around. I use this app on my iPads for autistic grandson, and truthfully app was amazing in helping with speech. Sadly to say The app has now completely crashed. When I turn it on it crashes within less than a minute. I have reached out to developers 2 weeks ago and still no response or help fixing app. In my last 5 star review someone named Mike thanked me for review and said to reach out to him if I had any problems. I did this and still no response. I would love to give back the 5 star review but can’t; as the app crashes every time and still no help.Please respond, thank you

Too many glitches
Wish I could rave about how versatile and indispensable this app is, but I can’t, because it’s incredibly buggy. For example, when I try to select a related bit to be associated with one of the bits in a board, they all appear as white squares and nothing happens when you select them. Since I was working on a list of minimal pairs, this glitch ended up being a massive stumbling block, making the board I had worked hard to create nearly unusable. Come on you guys, fix these glitches, it shouldn’t be so frustrating to use an app that cost so much money. Only giving 2 stars because of its potential. As it stands, I’m an unhappy customer.

Have used shared and custom boards to teach vocabulary and task sequencing necessary for our developmentally delayed son to execute a package delivery job.

Worthless
I am an SLP that used the app countless times every day. However, since the update, the app is worthless. It keeps crashing and even when it doesn’t crash, it works so slow. Every time I email customer service, they keep telling me that it’s only happening by my app. However, from the feedback and ratings, it’s clear that they really messed up with this update! I stopped using it because it’s a waste of time. Don’t bother paying the price, you will regret it!
I just received a response from the developers that goes to show how dishonest they are. They claim that I am a few versions behind with my updates. So I went to check the latest version and checked my update, it’s exactly the same. It only lasted for a second because the app crashed again. Same worthless app again. They should have never switched it. Why fix what isn’t broken!!

Rapidly Improving!

I recently had an issue with this app. There was an incorrect email for support, so there was a delay in getting a response. However, I did get a response and the incorrect email has since been changed. I was very happy to not get a general response, and to receive a sincere apology.

I tried using Sight Words board. Within that I tried Photo Touch and Flash Cards
Half the words aren’t said out loud. Seriously? Tapping the sound icon doesn’t help. Seems like a waste of $19.99.

I don’t like the update of the app. As a busy therapist, I don’t have time to navigate the app to figure out how to use it. I have wasted valuable session time trying to access boards that I use with my students. I am very dissatisfied!

Loved the app until....
As an SLP, It was a great app that I used multiple times a day. Since the update there are so many things wrong. I lost everything but luckily had all my boards in the Bitsboard catalog so I was able to re-download. However it was inconvenient and I lost opportunities to use it with several of my patients. Since the update it appears that I have to be connected to the internet to use the app which I very much dislike because I typically keep my iPad on airplane mode. This is also very inconvenient. Overall, not impressed with the update at all, hopefully Bitsboard will do some tweaking and make the app positive again.

Great resources but now can no longer access to the app
I bought the app pro in 2017. Great resources and the students love it a lot! Especially the activities. However, starting past Friday, i could no longer access to the app because it kept saying it was updating to a new version. When It is almost done updating, the app crashed. I did it at least 5-7 times. Please fix it soon. Thank you for your help.

Problems
I love this app and purchased the premium version several years ago. However when I had to replace my iPad, none of the pictures downloaded when restoring my purchase. It shows words words only and changing the settings to ‘show images’ has not helped. Not sure how to proceed and don’t see someone to contact...

Used to love it, but it's too frustrating to use now
Second update:
Despite writing here about the issues I've had using the app, and contacting the publisher, the app remains essentially unusable. 9 times out of ten it crashes on startup. It does not always let me edit the collections I've put together. I certainly have no interest in paying for the Premium version unless the basic Pro version works!
Update:
Since I bought the app, even more activities have been added and there are regular updates and improvements. Unfortunately, at some point an update seems to have broken a variety of features. I can no longer search Bitsboard for images for example. I prefer doing that to using the web cos 1) there's less likelihood of inappropriate images and 2) there is usually sound attached and I like my students to hear voices other than mine. I can no longer access any of the shared boards through the catalog, and sometimes the app says my iPad is not connected to the Internet when it is (because other apps work just fine.) VERY disappointing - I hope it will be fixed soon!
This app was worth every penny I paid for it!
It is really easy to download premade sets of cards and equally easy to make my own. As a teacher who travels from one classroom to another, it's wonderful to have such a huge set of resources at my finger tips instead of having to schlep a heavy bag around with me. I can even create a new set of cards on the spot in class as needed! I did that in a class today & the classroom teacher was so impressed she decided to buy Bitsboard right away for herself. Unfortunately, she has a first generation iPad and iOS 5 and it won't run on her iPad. It is nice that I can search within the app for pictures and have no worries about anything inappropriate showing up.

Was the best program
Sadly, Bitsboard has not fixed the problems others have mentioned. I have used it happily for years. What made it wonderful: easy creation, sharing and searching of other boards— now unresponsive. This has been going on most of the 2017 school year and now into summer. I have so many boards and I can’t access them. Very disappointed.

Bitsboard is an extremely easy to use app that saves tons of time in my role as a busy Speech-Language Pathologist in early intervention. Yes as one reviewer mentioned there are occasional bugs, but overall it's terrific. It has continually improved. The variety of games makes it a great teaching/intervention tool and a great assessment tool.

I love this app. When it works correctly.
I wrote a negative review of this app during a long period of difficulty with using this app but I'm happy to report its fixed, and I am back to liking this app again. I would really appreciate a way to back up boards easily.
I used to love this app and use it daily in my work as a speech therapist. I gave a presentation to my colleagues and encouraged them to use it too. I made my own boards and shared them with parents, teachers, and other speech therapists. I was the biggest cheerleader for this app, even through the glitches. And there are glitches.

Steep Learning Curve
This may be a terrific app, but so far, I am struggling with it so much, that I can barely use it. I watched the tutorial and even looked up some YouTube videos, but I still find it very difficult to use and I am pretty tech savvy.
I want to modify the existing boards for students who are of widely varying levels. I figured out how to add my own photos and even how to make my own recordings, but I can’t figure out how to modify the play. For example, the Photo Touch game automatically increases the number of photos presented, but I don’t want that all the time. For some kids, I need the same number of photos every time. Also, I can’t figure out how to turn off the audio cues. I want to have audio cues for some students but not for all of them.
I needed to use my own photos many times because the default photo was not child friendly. On one occasion, the word was “hands” and the photo that came up was a young man with his hand shoved down inside his jeans - not the pocket- the inside his pants! Thank goodness I didn’t have a student with me at the time!
I will keep working with the app and update this review in a few weeks.

To answer your question about the audio - if I am working with a student who needs to practice expressive vocabulary, I might want them to name the presented photos before the audio cue is given. I have adjusted the rating to reflect the excellent support.

Amazing study tool for my autistic daughter...
...unfortunately, it freezes a lot. Not so much that we won't use it, but a ridiculous amount of times since I paid $20 for the pro version. Hopefully this issue gets resolved soon!

Please fix the problem with catalog access
PLEASE fix the network error that prevents access to the catalog. We have several staff in our program who use the app to teach vocabulary and progress monitor. Some staff received new iPads and need to download their boards again.

Great app
I use this app a lot and when it works it is one of the most helpful tools for my EL students. However, it glitches so much that I often spend a lot of instructional time trying to fix the glitches. I have been having trouble sharing Bits with my class and have emailed Bitsboard about it but haven't gotten a response. I wish their troubleshooting was more helpful and timely.

Excellent but buggy
I'm a linguist using Bitsboard Pro to learn and document the language of a tribal people in Papua New Guinea. This app is brilliant and by far the most versatile digital tool my team uses. We are essentially creating our own "Rosetta Stone" for this language, daily recording audio samples and taking pictures in order to create "boards" with which we can practice our language skills and supplement our immersion in the culture.
Each member of my team can create his own board and then AirDrop it to each other member as often as we need. This function saves us hours of data syncing and reconfiguration. These capabilities put us miles ahead of where the previous generation of linguists began. And more so, my own children are already able to utilize this tool for learning multiple languages simultaneously.
My three year old can navigate to the "Photo Touch" game, choose the board created for him, and practice his basic nouns for as long as we'll allow him because the reward sound for choosing the correct picture makes it exciting. And since he's hearing audio, seeing the visual, and physically choosing the picture, he's engaged on multiple levels and learning quickly.
I cannot rate this app a full five stars because it has been riddled with bugs. I understand that's simply the slow process of creating something like this, but I've lost weeks of work in a single moment when my classes synced backwards and deleted themselves, and the AirDrop function still fails more often than it works. It has been stressful relying so heavily on this app with all its imperfections, but its sheer capability and the versatility of its programming make it well worth the risk.

Great app
This is a wonderful app, it is versatile in so many ways, for example you can increase or decrease difficulty; you can add or delete words; you can creat your own boards, it has endless possibilities. Bonus part is you can e-mail the results to yourself, the client or caregiver--parents love to know how their kids are doing! The email can be sent immediately or later when you have time, if the client turns off the program you do not lose your results.
It did take me a while to warm up to this app because I thought it was confusing, just give it some time you learn to appreciate it more and more..
The only down side is with each name/client you add you can only have one e-mail address assigned to that client, I would love to add only my e-mail address.

Best Studying App Ever
I love this app. I am a teacher and a mother of three kids ( 3, 5 and 8) I use this app to teach my ESL kids new vocabulary. With my 3 year old it helps me with phonetic and visual recognition of words. With my 5 year old it helps me increase her vocabulary and to start her on spelling.
With my 8 year old it has been a savior, it helps me with spelling, phonics, and even science and social studies. I write in pages a definition, make a print screen of it and then make a set on Bitsboard with the pictures of the definitions. Now my son can study science definitions like a game with match, pop quiz, photo touch, and like I said he is learning english as a second language, so this has made his struggles with science definitions disappear.
As a teacher, it has helped meAs a teacher, it has helped me with attention deficit kids, that usually get bored with definitions and flashcards in one minute, but with Bitsboard they get engaged with the games, if they get bored of one game I change it to another, or use Bingo as a competition, I have seen real improvement with some of my students.
I have been using this app since the very beginning, and it never seizes to amaze me, it's constantly evolving and improving.
The support team is very helpful and listens to suggestions.

Frustration
I loved this app before it became a Pro app. I spent tons of time creating boards that I could use with my students and have parents at home access my boards. What a wonderful concept. Now, I have the old version and the new Pro version. I cannot figure out how to get my boards over to the pro version. Only some of them are appearing in the catalog. Plus, there is no way to search by my name to get a list of my boards. i have to look for each board one at a time. Having user accounts is not working for me. I cannot sign in with my previous user account on either version. I cannot share my old boards with my new pro version. Worst of all I spent tons of time on these and now I will not be able to help children and parents at home. The added fee is also going to limit families that I was excited to help. I wish bits board would return to how it was a month ago.

Bitsboard PRO - The Best Educational Games and Flash Cards in 1 App is simply the best all in one app. Preloaded with 9 activities, it is also very easy to create ones own activity. I have had this app for quite awhile, thus allowing me accessing to further searches. I understand that it now cost money to access or gain more of the games offered through Bitsboard, but do not know of the cost. However, this app simply is the best for all the many types of games that can be accessed. I use it for my special needs students who are learning skills like adjectives, community, sorting or even first sentences. The catalog is endless and expansive, and when combined with your own developed games this app becomes limitless.
