So sad

I’ve used Manything for years with an old iPad and old iPhone. Worked great; all questions answered quickly.

Now it no longer works because it requires an iOS not compatible with OLDER hardware. Seems pretty illogical. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any alternate options for older iPads.

App works great- with the exception of the power flickers off or internet. Then you have to physically turn it back on and push the record button. If you try to use this while you’re out of town and that happens you’ve wasted your money. (I did)

Inused to use it often for monitoring my dog while traveling in the car. Over time I use it less and less. Even w a good 5g connection i spend more time watching it connect than watching the feed. This has gotten worse over time but now it’s hardly usable

Bluetooth audio doesn’t work

This app would be perfect but when you watch the live video feed, any and all audio switches from your bluetooth audio (headphones, car speaker, whatever) to your phone speaker. So you can’t listen privately in shared spaces. This is a big drawback for me and I’m sure for many other users as well.

Got the Job Done

I set this up in my kitchen to monitor my daughters house party. To make sure things were ok and to make sure things were not getting out of hand. It worked very well. Could see the live feed.

Poor video quality and sound turns off

1. Even though the iPhone has excellent video quality, this app reduces the quality of video.

2. If you are using your iPhone to listen to audio, the audio turns off when you view the live camera feed—even if you are not playing audio through the feed and the feed is on mute.

IT STARTED TALKING WITH MY VOICE!

First time using it, I went to buy food and left the camera pointing towards my bedroom where my dog was sleeping. The first thing I started hearing was a voice saying "Hi Dog, Hi Dog" then i stepped in my room & it went quiet. The scariest part was that the voice was MINE! Very scary & confusion. I do not recommend it since not sure if it was AI.

Junk App

Live video doesn’t load quick or reliably, motion saved clips rarely play, constant playback error message. App freezes repeatedly. Waste of money for the premium. Switched to AlfredCamera, resolution and functionality work far better than Manything. More money but far more features and continuous recording. Don’t waste your time with Manything.

Don’t use it

When you open the app, it takes 5 to 30 seconds to connect to the other camera. Once finally connected, it will show you a list of video clips to view. Usually at least a few of them won’t play. I once contacted the developers about this. They said “sorry there aren’t any video clips in the cloud.” Yet I was looking at a few clips that I had not been able to play. And this - clips that record but can’t play because they “don’t exist in the cloud - happens ALL the time.

I theorize that sometimes the camera records and then the recording doesn’t get sent to the cloud and so for many recordings that supposedly are sent to the cloud I’m paying $7.99 a month for 30 days of this, of recording, endless video clips where half of them or more don’t play. Insane. Other apps cost far less. They can’t work any worse than this one.

What’s truly bizarre is that while I had it in my bedroom, to observe what a kenneled dog does while I was gone, it worked fine. Yet when I placed it in the living room to see who was coming and going, it showed a few clips of me coming and going while setting it up. After that during the times when I wasn’t there and someone else was coming and going, none of those clips would play. Today there are about 30 clips of others coming and going, and on hitting “play” it did the usual spinning a gear endlessly then finally told me there’s an error in playback.

So this offers no security whatsoever. It offers zero reliability. It is more expensive than five other apps that do the same thing. If I had to do over, I would try anything else before this. I’m so angry that I’ve wasted so much money with this.

Did not detect motion

Purchased the subscription for home monitoring but wanted to use it for monitoring my indoor garden. I will start to say that the app did not perform its function and has inconsistent motion detection. I have a 4 year old night shade that was going to bloom for its first time so I pointed the camera in its direction. If you know night shades only bloom once very briefly and then wilt. The camera did not detect and motion of the flower despite being 14 inches from the plant, however in the distance of the window the camera went off once to detect a person. I had the camera up for 3 days to catch the event. So not only did it not detect the flower, but in all that time it only caught one person walking down a relatively busy city street. So it’s not even reliable for what it is designed to do which is home monitoring. I cannot recommend this product.

The app crashed non stop, it will not run more then a 2 days without stopping. I’ve messaged them multiple times and they know of the issue but don’t have the fix. Instead they keep upgrading me .. it’s worthless without a means to record.

Cat savior!

I used this app to turn my garage into a giant cat trap. We set up an iPad pointing at a safe box with some food and a warm blanket. As soon as we saw movement we closed our garage from the outside! Very thankful as we now have our cat “bud” back with us!

I used this app for awhile with my android as the viewer and old iPhone 6s as the camera. I would get one recording that I could review at a time and if I delete it I could review the next one and so on.. since getting a new iPhone I can’t review a single recording without paying! Non existent support, TS on my own

Great when it works! It would be great if someone could actually tell me what TS steps I should try vs using my TS experience to isolate the issue on my own. It won’t even allow me to access my account and cameras from the website. Going on 4 mos as of today. I’m sorry I’ve recommended their app to so many people at this point. Deleted & re-downloaded to all devices, deleted my subscription, deleted and re-added my account, worked until I added a second viewer to the account and now I’m back to square one telling me everything is “offline” showing blank viewers, yet sending me motion alerts! You would think that they would want to resolve this bug, but all I’ve gotten is inaccurate statements about my devices, & my connection, and a snarky comment about me not using their platform so there was nothing to TS! lol What is there to use?! I’ve emailed for months that it’s not working… lol accounts are deleted again- I’ll try again another day when I have more time to waste…

Best phone security

I’ve found no other app that detects motion,sound,blocking areas, complete remote control away from home, and multiple cameras. Been using it for 4 years and is 100% reliable. Was too sensitive and had to turn down detection levels. This on a 11 year old iphone 4 as the camera.

Worked great until recently

I’ve been using the app for a while and recently upgraded my subscription, after that it now has trouble staying connected to WiFi. I’ve confirmed it’s not an internet issue and the app appears to be operating fine on the recording device.

Terrible price and features

I have been using this app often on for probably seven years now. As time has gone on, the pricing model has become more and more funky. It’s really hard to know what they’re thinking about here. The price for even a couple of devices is completely outrageous. They need to make this much cheaper and invest in coming up with some new features or a new interface for the app. This app has not changed in any major way in the last seven years. It’s a real shame, you feel like they have dropped the ball and they are just phoning it in at HQ here.

Swing and a miss

Amazingly, this appears to be the only app on the entire iOS platform that allows you to trigger Video recording with sound… I was looking for something to document noisy neighbors that I could leave running and would only record the loud noises. Well, that part of it worked perfectly.

And then I tried to listen to what I recorded.

You have to have a subscription to even listen to video where you record it on your own phone. They do not allow you to store it locally, you MUST upload it to their server, so they’re justified in charging you a subscription, which you then must cancel when you decide you don’t want it, you can’t just buy a fixed number of days. Therefore this app costs close to $100 a year to use.

I would happily pay a couple bucks, even more than a couple bucks, as a one time payment, to be able to record video triggered by noise and document my noisy neighbors. But there’s no reason for me to have to sign up for an account and upload my private video to the cloud, let alone pay a recurring subscription charge over and over again, for something that I just need to be able to play back on my phone. That’s absurd and greedy, and makes this almost-useful app completely useless to me.

Live mode not working

I’ve used this app for years and love it! But the last update for iOS 14 has broken the app. Live mode does not work and only posts still shots of motion. I used this app as security for my home and also for my business and it’s useless now. I have sent a few emails asking for help but have heard nothing back. Please get this app working again.

Find a better app that does similar things without constantly crashing. I used it as a pet monitor and it crashes unexpectedly while I’m out of the house, rendering it ineffective at the wrong time.

Looked promising but app crashes every time I try to view a video. The website is Jim also, tested with Chrome and Firefox. The camera runs fine on a bunch of old iPhone 4S, but that useless if the viewer doesn’t work.

Not Working

Right up front it asks for access to all my files. I selected NO. I did give access to camera and microphone. I set up my camera on the Monitor/camera phone and then tried to set up the control phone. It said the account did not match anything. So, I tried to log in under Set Up New account. It said the account information already exists. 🤷🏼‍♀️The camera is on and monitoring. I hope some creep is not watching what I do! I will be uninstalling quickly and reporting if something doesn’t happen pretty quick.

Working great for me

I've been using Manything for a couple of months now to monitor the plants in my office while we're shut down due to the virus. It's been working well for my limited needs. It's really simple to set up and use.

IOS 13.4🚫

UPDATE 6/1/20 - The app does not work for me at all. There is no live video at all. There are recordings in my feed but no live video. The recordings are capturing intermittent 8 - 9 second videos even though I have it set to continuously record. I have contacted the app support several times and have received no response. I have been a subscriber of manything for two years and now I am discontinuing my subscription and uninstalling the app. It's useless at this point and they aren't helping.

The app no longer works for me since my phone has been updated. The videos frequently go black. There is much lag and sometimes it gets jerky and speeds up. I also have 9s videos even though I have continuous recording set. There was an issue in front of my home I needed on camera and ask the thing caught was 8s of action even though 4 people were in front of the camera moving. Right now on iPhone 11 I cannot contact my other camera to see live footage. It continuously says contacting camera, although the video is still actively recording actions. I cannot see live footage at all. I emailed support and so far have not heard anything in the past four days. It's pointless to have a subscription with no support and unusable video

Great for what I need, but not perfect

I got this app so that I can keep an eye on my 3D printer to make sure the print is coming out well. The remote flashlight function is great so that I don’t have to keep a light on all the time, and the clarity is good enough so that I know what’s going on.

My main complaint (which is pretty minor) is that the recording disconnects every few minutes, even on the continuous recording mode (both when connected and not connected) which means if I want to download a video longer than just a few minutes (like for a time lapse) then I’d have to figure out how to combine multiple clips. I was hoping that paying for a subscription would improve the quality, but I just have to do any time lapses separate from the app. Again, not a big deal, this app is great for what I was looking for

Works great for the most part it’s just one bug that’s frustrating and almost make me not want to use this app anymore. Randomly some of the camera settings don’t appear. Camera on/off, still mode, mute, flashlight, etc. don’t show up.

The free version used to allow viewing events for 24 hours after event was triggered.

Now all of a sudden ZERO. Becomes 100% useless and worthless unless you fork over cash.

Beware Reoccurring Billing

The app interface is designed to make it nearly impossible to cancel your account. It is ever so easy to upgrade from the app. But if you want to cancel, good luck. The subscription is either managed in your phones iCloud settings or from the iTunes Store app. Where you can cancel chambers changes with iOS updates. Good luck finding it. This is more than bad UX. This is akin to nutritional supplement subscription scams.

Latest Update needs modification

Nothing serious, just a nuisance.

When opening the app, it doesn’t return to last mode, which is usually Viewer mode.

It used to open up all the way to the active phone being used as Camera.

So now when I get a motion alert, I tap the alert, and the app opens as if it’s the very first time it’s being opened.

I have to select “Viewer”, then select whichever phone that was set up as a “Camera” and is online.

I haven’t found a setting to control this.

Not good anymore.

I had enjoyed this for a while but now you can’t even replay the last video. You have to subscribe to view the last video it recorded. The subscription for this a month is steep. You should only pay one price and that’s it, not pay a monthly subscription. It’s a rip-off.

Hello all,

I’ve been a paying customer of manything for years now. Sometimes I don’t have any cameras setup but I keep paying the subscription so that a company that I like survives. I’ve left my home unattended and my camera went offline but I did not receive any push notification on my phone. That’s fine because I got an email. However, I tried to look at the cloud recorded videos but couldn’t see anything that my camera saw before it went offline. I’ve emailed support yesterday but they haven’t responded. Now I’m left with no information about whats going on at home while I’m traveling abroad. I will never use manything again and take back all the recommendations I made to my friends. I hope you guys struggle real hard as I’m struggling right now.

Great app

I am using the free plan and set up my iPod as a camera facing my bedroom door and it sends me an email every time something moves included with a picture. I downloaded this app because I like to go to my dads office during the summer but my sister likes to stay home and constantly goes in my room and leaves her trash and takes my stuff so I set this camera up so I could bust her. I never knew you could have a old phone as a security camera until now! This app is great for watching over your baby, pets of just about anything. The only bad this is the interface I think the app could be designed a little better with a fresh look. Overall though great app! Download it today!

Manything was really useful to monitor my pet bird while I was on travel

I'm back from my trip to the U.S. Even though I'm back, ManyThing worked so well keeping an eye on Monta, my java sparrow, and even letting me talk to him (!) that I will keep the subscription going. When I'm out I can still check on him, and my partner can check on him from work.

Plus I've been able to download a lot of cute clips to upload for FaceBook.

The 2nd day I was gone it stopped working for some reason, but my partner was able to get it working again. Other than that one incident, it's been working flawlessly since April 1. I've recommended it to friends.

Awesome app so far!

I’ve only been using the app for 5 days but so far it’s been great. I needed a way to keep an eye on my foster dogs while I’m out of the house and I needed an app that would work on the old iOS on my iPad 2. This app is perfect for my needs. Video is clear and it does a great job at picking up sound and motion events. No issues running it on an old slow device. I use the free version so I can’t watch all the past event recordings but that hasn’t been necessary for me. This app gives me a lot of peace of mind!

Puppy Training made SO much easier

We’ve been using this app to help train our puppy when we leave the house. It’s so much more effective to be able to correct bad behavior when it happens instead of when we get home some 5 hours later. The ability with this app to talk to wherever your camera is set up is invaluable. When our puppy starts to tug at the roll of toilet paper, we see it and immediately tell her no. Our puppy stops and finds one of her toys to play with. Thanks to this app, our puppy is on her way to becoming a wonderful, well behaved dog. Thank you!

Worked fine

Just loaded it on an iPad Pro and iPhone 8 as viewers and on an iPhone 5 as a camera and everything went through without a hitch. I used the viewer on the same WiFi as the camera and then turned off the WiFi on the viewer to check it on cell connection and again all worked great. Now let’s see how long it can run without crashing!

Feature request

I would like a feature that allows me to turn the app off and on at a scheduled time. I use the app to watch our front yard which is great until nightfall when it is too dark to see any cause of motion or when interior lights are on the app records the reflection.

No more free viewing

Up until my last one month subscription expired, you had a few hours to review recorded video without upgrading. No more! Now you must pay to see any video, even of it was recorded one second prior. And at $3.99 for just one device, that gets expensive. May be time to get a real camera that can record in the dark, which is something this can’t do.

Everything I was looking for

Setup was easy and smooth. I was worried as the wi-fi in my house is very unreliable. However, I was very pleasantly surprised in its ability to reconnect seamlessly. I can say that I am extremely satisfied with this app being exactly what I needed.

iPad as camera stopped working

Several friends and I tried to use our iPads as the camera and view the live streaming on our phones, but the live viewing wasn’t working/connecting.

We finally switched it where we had our iphones act as the camera and watched the live viewing using the iPad. I’m not sure why this setup has changed, but it’s a little inconvenient to have to leave your phone as the camera and carry around an iPad.

Stolen Devices

I have been using Manything for quite awhile to monitor my driveway for arriving guests and to make use of old iPhone.

I was recently robbed and Manything video captured the car used by the thieves. To retain the video, I was able to upgrade easily where my Apple iTunes account will be charged. In moment of crisis, I didn’t even have to get up to get a credit card. I was able to easily email video to sheriff when he requested it. A few days later I had some login problems which were user error (password protected password list was on stolen computer). At 1:30 in morning I received email from Manything support person, which solved my problem. This app is a fantastic use of old iPhone.

Great idea, but terrible outcome.

This app is a great idea. Turning any old phone or tablet into a ho e security camera. Very nice idea. This app does have a few problems though.

1. This app kinda lied about the supported devices. For instance, I wanted to use my very nice iPhone 3GS as a home security camera and it was running iOS 6.1 and it should be supported with this app. Turns out, it’s not. In the app description it says that you can use any device with iOS 6 or later but when trying to download the app, a notification said that I needed iOS 8. Very disappointing.

2. Payment. At first I thought this was the greatest thing ever. I thought the app was free or you would make a one time payment when you buy the app. But I was wrong. You actually need to pay for how many days you want to use this app. (Sort of like a phone bill) it’s very annoying.

So that’s why this app deserves a 2 Star Review. It’s a good app idea, but it’s also terrible.

(UPDATE) I created an account

I downloaded Manything to my phone & an old iPad. I created an account. I thought I would use this set up as a security camera. I logged into manything on my phone... I’ll repeat. I am logged into manything on my phone RIGHT NOW... so naturally I went to log in on my old iPad using the same account. On the iPad, it claims the account I am currently logged into on my phone, doesn’t exist. I double checked my credentials. I input the correct email & password, but only one device is recognizing my account. I’ll try again tomarrow, but if I can’t log in on at least 2 devices, manything is useless to me.

UPDATED ... 8 hours passed (overnight). Manythings on the iPad now recognizes my account. I’m raising my star review to 3 as the app appears to be functioning well enough, with no issues (so far). I have been able to monitor one room from my phone, I’ll be adding a second room shortly. I don’t anticipate any further connectivity issues like I saw earlier.

I’m now mostly satisfied, though I still find Manythings to be lacking.

I had hoped to find a Manythings app for AppleTv, so I can monitor multiple rooms from there... without luck.

I’m deducting one star for slowness to become usable (a ‘monitor’ without a ‘camera’ is useless. I had to wait overnight to set up a camera for the purpose of monitoring.)

I’m deducting one star because there’s no AppleTv app. I’d much rather use my Tv as the monitor I view my informal security camera system from.

Keeps getting better!

I’ve used Manything on iPhone 4/4S/5/6 - It’s been a good solution, but sometimes it would drop the connection. However, with the latest versions the reliability has been much improved. I currently have 5 cameras around the house and feel it’s more dependable than ever.

Works perfectly for what it is

1. You need some light for motion detection to work. I have one camera looking out a window next to my front door. A dim yellow porch light is enough. 2. You need a good wireless internet connection. Jerky “scrubbing” is likely “crappy connection.” Works great for me. 3. Mounting the phone can be challenging. 4. I use as a backup alert system to other installed cams.

Love this app

I have used this app in my business and have found people on camera doing things like damaging my property, when you have someone on film you don’t have a he said she said problem. The pictures are clear and leave no questions as to what you are seeing. I also have inferred cameras and the pictures don’t even compare to what I get from my iPhones connected to Manything. Thanks Manything you have saved my businesses property on more then one occasion!

Great

I have been using this for close to a year on two iPhones (5c & 5s) I have the 5c disguised outside on a covered porch and the 5s is inside. I have been very impressed with everything.

The app is stable. I have only had to reboot the phones maybe 3 times each. I have not had any issues checking footage from another app or PC.

I have contacted customer service once or twice and they were responsive and helpful.

For the money the 2-cam, 2-day subscription is worth every penny. More days are saved and available online if needed which is a little added peace of mind.

Alerts work well, though I've turned them off. Motion detection is consistent, I have or pointed towards the street and it captures every car in the exact same spot each time.

Plays well with IFTTT so you can do custom things like "turn of the inside camera when I get home", "turn in the smart porch light when motion is detected", "turn on all cameras when I leave home", etc..

All in all 7/7 would buy again, is a good use of old phones. Requires some thought and setup to get the phones mounted and charging where you might want them.

Disappointing!

This app used to work well using an iPhone 5s as the primary camera, however, nowadays it’s badly broken and seems to get worse with each update. The app does not record anything moving when it should be, and always shows it stuck “still mode” when the app is set on “live recording”. Multiple reboots, reinstalls and updates did not resolve the issues. If you’re looking for an app to use for security, motion or capturing something important look elsewhere! This app won’t record anything except for one frame of video and the sound - making it essentially worthless.

[Updated] No longer working on iPhone 3GS

[Update] When I last tried Manything on my 3GS in November, it would not work, however it appears to be working fine now, not sure what changed. The app has worked well in the past and because of the developers quick response I changed my review to 5 stars.

Original review: I have two iPhone 3GSs that I used as cameras for awhile, but it seems that something has broken it on them. They will still send alerts when they detect motion, but I cannot view live video from them anymore. The app can't be updated on iOS 6 anymore, so it's not like an update broke it, it must be a problem on their end. If they can fix it on older phones I will change the review to 4 stars

Great!

I use this app with my iPhones and it has really put my mind at ease when I am not at home. I can see what my elderly mother is doing, and how her home attendants are treating her. Thank you so much. I didn't give it give stars because, you now have to upgrade and pay for things that were once free.

Transition to landscape

It’s a great app, very useful. Alerts are nice. Only one complaint I have is, when switching from portrait (upright) to landscape (horizontal) the video you are watching will stop and go to the beginning and then you’ll need to press play again, but it starts at the beginning of the clip.

Since the iOS 11 update, I haven’t received Manything alerts on my phone or iPad. Fortunately, I can still open the app and see if there have been any events recorded. Seems to be working OK, just haven’t been getting any alerts.

I have been using Manything for over a year. Customer service is very attentive. I started using the app after getting threats on my life. This app made it possible for me to sleep at night.

Although the app is less expensive then a home security system, it is a lot more expensive than most other app camera security systems. While I find it more reliable than most, I wish the prices were more competitive.

Used during California forest fire

This app has been a life saver! I set up an old iPhone 6+ in my back yard during a very scary time as a forest fire was closing in on my neighborhood. I was able to watch from a safe distance with my family and able to give the whole neighborhood updates through the next few days. When all was said an done the neighborhood and our house were fine but it sure took the stress of not knowing what was going on off of us.

Pros and Cons

The user interface is easy to use and navigate. The app is excellent at picking up motion and recording clips. There are however issues that I encountered both software and hardware issues. One drawback is the phone needs to stay on at all times with the screen illuminated. I found with my old spare iphone4 it would get hot and then the battery would drain despite being plugged in. While this may not be a app issue, it would be fair to say many users use old phones with this app. I would constantly get emails that phone lost wifi signal or battery draining. My wifi signal is constant and does not cut out. It was frustrating when I left for vacation and a few days in the recording stops for various reasons. I have since bought a webcam with cloud backup and found it to much more reliable.

Latest update using iOS 11

The latest Manything update is fantastic. Having the larger picture along with being able to zoom in is a great addition. One of my cameras wasn’t uploading the alert videos to the cloud so I sent them an email this morning (on a Sunday), and within 2 hours I got a reply back on how to fix it. Great customer service!

5.3 update bad on old phones

Been using for several years and my old iPhone 4 as the camera. 5.3 update does not show up on my iPhone 4. Updated my iPhone 6 with no issues.

Now since the update the iPhone 4 will record just fine. But there is no lube connection when viewing on my 6.

Need a update for the 4 please. If it's not coming then the app will be useless to me. I don't have another phone to use as the camera.

I thought the app was great at first but I wanted to watch my recording and I had to buy it! I went through so many apps because my twin kids wanted to see santa through a security camera but real security cameras are way to expensive I promised my kids this it would mean the world if u change the price and let me watch my recordings, I rely on you.

Recording works half the time

I experimented with the motion detection, but it wasn't sensitive enough for my needs. It could be because the location was a little too dark. I used the continuous recording option, but would check to see that it missed 3-4 hours and sometimes 10 minute gaps in between recordings. Super inconsistent and very annoying. Also when I go to "contact us" it says I don't have "email installed on this device". Strike three. Deleting this.

Better than Amcrest

This app have so much better interface than the competition Amcrest, easy to use! On the hardware side it is also better, my personal experience a 40$ iphone 4s already makes better quality video than a more expensive Amcrest camera. If i use newer IPhone the difference is even greater! I'm thinking to change my store cameras for iphones!

Works well with older phones

I use this app with a couple of 4s’s on iOS 9. The phones have been running 24/7 for over 1 year now without issues. I like that you can view live stream from the app and the web. Overall, a great idea to be able to repurpose older phones. Hopefully in future releases, the developers can provide 720p or even 1080p options.

Bad to worse

UPDATE: on iOS 11.0

App has deteriorated even further with release of iOS 11.0. Clips often turn to black now in addition to even worse levels of jerkiness as described below.

App is virtually unusable now. What an utter waste of time. Reducing to 1 star and cancelled subscription.

ORIGINAL: on 10.3.3

Latest version of the app is EXTREMELY jerky when scrubbing through clips. This occurs on both iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2, both on 10.3.3, even after deleting and reinstalling the app.

Prior to this update, when scrubbing through a clip the app was always silky smooth. But now scrubbing through a clip constantly results in random jerkiness and hang-ups, inevitably causing inadvertent skips to the next or previous clip as the app hangs and your gesture turns into a swipe. Once or twice of this nonsense is ok, but when you're reviewing hundreds of clips and this is repeated hundreds of times, it quickly becomes a frustrating and colossal waste of time.

Another needed change is clear functional distinctions in the ui between scrubbing and swiping. Far too often (especially in this latest version as described) it is way too easy to turn a scrub into a swipe. This is poor design resulting in unacceptable performance.

I will not renew my subscription and start looking for alternatives if the jerkiness is not fixed. If fixed, I'll stick around as well as change my rating.
