Description

Watch Tracker is a revolutionary new app for tracking the accuracy of a wristwatch. It's dramatically easier and more accurate than any previous method.
Just tap a button when the time on your watch matches the time displayed by the app, and Watch Tracker does the rest. It synchronizes with an atomic clock, measures and records the difference, and displays graphs of all the data points you've recorded.
- Uses best-fit analysis to accurately calculate how many seconds your watch gains or loses per day
- Displays graphs of rates and variance
- Can track multiple watches simultaneously
- Saves data in CSV files that can be opened with any spreadsheet software
Watch Tracker is made by the developer of tChess (the chess app that was featured in Apple's "Learn" commercial for the iPad) and Learn Chess (the Apple Staff Favorite e-book).

What's New in Version 1.1.2

- Updated the atomic clock code to support IPv6
(It was displaying "Error" in some cases.)

Worth the money

There are free apps to help you measure the accuracy of your watches, but this one has more features and simply works better.

Crashes when Taking Watch Photo

Core functionallity seems great, but crashes every time you try to take a picture under Edit Watch Information. Pretty big bug to go unnoticed.

Good idea, clunky interface, app crashes

First issue is the app crashed when trying to take a picture of a watch. Every time. So every tracked watch has the same default image.
I'd also like a custom sorting for watches. Alphabetical isn't terrible, but "recently added" is useless unless I add watches in the reverse order I want them sorted. I have some watches with no second hand, and I track them significantly less than my other watches. Custom sorting would put my most commonly used automatic watches on top and my cheap quartz watches on bottom.
Interface is confusing, with data point and timing runs and new timing runs and file making. I'll admit I just downloaded, but so far it's a little strange to navigate.
No other reviews state issues with the picture, so hopefully an app update fixes this.

Nice program

Overall, I really like it. It would be nice if there was a "rehack" feature that allowed a timing run to continue when a watch was reset, but it's a small nit. Overall the program is very useful for measuring the accuracy of a mechanical (or even quartz) watch.

Good, usable app

It takes a few days to figure out the best way to use the app. My suggestion is to do one timing point and then don't do another for AT LEAST a whole day, preferably longer. Otherwise, you get skewed results given that if one makes a timing point too soon after the previous point, and if one's response time is off by a fraction of a second, the app will extrapolate that into a large gain or loss. Whereas, if one waits a day or more the timing points will give a pretty accurate sense of your watches accuracy.

The different timing runs make it super easy to track accuracy and the comments make it very easy to track accuracy depending on different variables!

A must have for wristwatch appreciating folks

Watch Tracker is a great little app. I own multiple mechanical watches and Watch Tracker is a great app for discerning the timing rate of each of my watches. No crashes, works well, and is easy to use. The graphs are easy to read, and the variance calculation and rate calculation are great features.
My only suggestion is to add a little color, perhaps bring the Description field up a level such that it is in the watch’s main screen, and maybe an archiving feature for the watches I don’t own/track anymore. These are piddly app addition suggestions because the Watch Tracker’s main functions are flawless.
Update: love the comments section and default comment drop down menu. Can you add to the menu "face up Overnight".

Just what I was looking for

It took me a minute to figure out exactly how to use it but after I got the hang of it, I was impressed. After taking multiple data points, it gives a clear, accurate rating which is very nice. I thought $4.99 was a bit high at first, but I think I'll be using this for years. Definitely worth the download if you are curious of your watches accuracy.

Great app

Like the info it's able to capture, ability to add notes, ability to export, etc. The ability to fully edit is also great as I tend to take several attempts to hit the button at the exact time. I would recommend adding an audio ticking of seconds to help with that.

Awesome tool

This app is so simple and yet so useful for those of use who like keeping track of their watches' accuracy.
My only wish would be for a quick explanation of the following terms: best-fit rate, total rate, average rate. They are used in different sections of the app and sometimes they have the same values while at other times they differ slightly.

Nice Application

This is a nice little app. Precise and detailed. Allows me to track time and graphs on multiple watches. Detailed information on the speed of watches, track the time to see how fast or slow your watch us running, the rate of loss or gain per day, week or month. Also keeps photo of your collection.

Very useful and thoughtfully designed

I was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful design of this app. Adding data points is easy as the app automatically suggests a time in the next few seconds and has you tap a single large button when that time appears. The graphs are useful, and the app allows for multiple timing runs (after adjusting the time on your watch). Easily worth $5 and I can't really think of any way it could be improved.

Worth the $5 for sure

I don't know that there is a much better app to track your watches accuracy than this. 5 stars all the way. I love how you can just tap when you get to the time displayed and it automatically knows the offset and the next time you check it remembers setting the time 10 seconds ahead. Makes it so easy!

Wonderful app if you own a mechanical watch

The ideal app for mechanical watch owners.
App basically has you tap the screen when the watch reaches a certain time. It's really fast to take data points and the graphs it generates really let's you know what the watch is doing throughout the day and week. You quickly learn trick like varying the amount of time you wear the watch and how to position the watch at rest.
Tracks multiple watches which is also a great feature. I would recommend this to anyone with a mechanical watch who cares about the accuracy.
By the way this is NOT an app for actively adjusting a watch. I recommend Hair Spring for that.

Tracking Made Easy

Well, it's here for the watch enthusiast interested in keeping track of how their time pieces are doing their job. It is very good at keeping track of rate by comparing time at two different points, all at a touch of a finger. No need to sync your watch accurately. No need to check if your benchmark your track your watch with is spot on. It does that for you ( gives an offset ).
You can keep track after when your watch was on a winder, then add a few data points after you were wearing it and compare and see the difference. It even plots a variance slope.
This is one thing you will not see when using a timegrapher which gives you an instantaneous rate, amplitude, beat, angle, and vph in varying positions while on the timegrapher which is fine if you fix watches. This app complements the time grapher because it tells you how your watch does under use, which is what we need to know. It is more suited for people who doesn't need or care to know the fine details.
It just give you the bottom line.
Very easy to use. Keeps tab on multiple watches.

Nice app to track accuracy

OK, all of us with mechanical watch collections know that these are not the most accurate of timepieces available for purchase. However we also know that they do require periodic maintenance, usually forewarned by a change in how they track the passage of time. This application is great for that purpose. If you check your watch every month or two, it is easy to spot when they start losing significant time due to needed maintenance or if they start gaining significant time due to an accidental magnetization of the movement. While you can chart all of this via paper & clock/stopwatch, I find tracking this data inside the Watch Tracker application to be much more simple and much more flexible.
Last update has really added some nice features. Definitely a product I would buy again.

What This App IS NOT !

Get your expectation straight. This is a very clever app, but this app does not turn your iPhone into one of those calibration instruments you see in some hi-end luxury watch repair outfits. This app does not tell you within minutes how fast or slow your watches run. It does, however do a fantastic job tracking the gain or loss rates of your beloved timepieces (expressing it in number of seconds gained or lost per day) over a period of time intervals.
If you want an app that works like those calibration instruments, there are apps that work just like that, which I have also purchased. Yet, I find those apps very cumbersome to use, mostly because you need to attach to your iphone a microphone in order to pick up the ticking signals of your watches. More often than not, the environment is too noisy and the ticking signals are lost over and over again, leaving you holding onto the microphone, your watch and your iphone for hours on end, and then you still won't get any satisfying results or reading.
This app works differently. It does not require any microphone, and there are no ticking signals to pick up. It does, however, require a bit of patience (i.e. giving it a day or two in terms of entering various data points for the results to be meaningful) and some normal decent reflexes.
This app can track one or many watches at the same time. The results presentation and graphic presentation are very informative and easy to understand. I recommend this app highly for all watch aficionados !

Excellent timepiece performance tool

I have several watch timing apps and this has proven to be one of the best. Using the app is simple and quick. I've tested it against a chronometer with a known rate and it has proven itself to be very accurate. The new updated interface makes keeping track of my watch collections running rate records easy. Each timepiece labeled with its image for easy identification has its own history, the latest rate test at the top. Now each watch has its own performance history and will make catching possible mechanical problems early a breeze. Great job.

Made timing of watch much easier

Update with 1.1 release:
Really like the recent changes. I been using the app since it was first released. A great app has gotten even better. The ability to add a photo of your watch and to log the timings to an individual watch is great. Thanks for the new release!
----------------------
Original review :
I have been using this app for the last two weeks to time my new automatic watch. It gives the watch owner all the tools you need in one very well designed app. The fact that it synchs and displays the atomic time makes it so much easier than using a spreadsheet and another app for the atomic time.
The graphs and data screens are very useful and give you a very good idea of how accurate your watch is. It is a good idea to record this information for any new watch so that over time you have a reference of its performance when it was new.
Only suggestions I have is too drop the price down a bit, and also to allow for more than the last ten items on the data point comparison list.

Unusable on an iPad

I have had and used this app for a couple of months with no issues on my iPad until I downloaded the latest update. If I could give it zero stars I would. Now I can't even see the clock display to sync. The scaling is off whether in 1x or 2x. Since the app will not rotate, the scaling in portrait is not wide enough to view the information.

Not worth the $4.99 I paid for this. But that was my fault for not reading the whole description. I thought for the price it listened to your watch to give a beats per minute log. Oops:) but still, for $5 bucks I already have an atomic clock and a pad of paper.
