Amazing I love the app the readings ate very close to accurate for a phone light meter. My best advice for the app is to get your reading than maybe expose just a little brighter. Other that it is amazing!

Review of myLightMeter Pro
I use the pro version of this app, and it has performed very well. I shoot only black and white, and only outside. I use a 1957 Rolleiflex that I recently had turned up. The light meter works great.

Lacking what others have
For a paid app things are lacking. I set lens profile minimum f3.5 why is it showing me f1? I asked for full stops but Iam getting ⅓ stop on aperture and shutter speed. Other free apps allow iso to be in full also. Just have settings to allow user to say f stop full or 1/2 or 1/3 etc. Close. Hope they fix what is basic on others

Nearly Perfect!
This is by far the best light meter you can get, it is reliable and has a hefty amount of features with the pro version. My main use is for my Polaroid instant cameras for manual control. It nails every photo and I am happy with this app! My only complaint is about the user interface and experience. I wish it was a little more streamlined because sometimes it can feel like a little too much when you need to adjust or change something within the settings. I feel as though with time given, it’ll be easier to navigate but as a new user, it was so confusing. Other than that, I highly recommend this one.

Essential tool for film shooters
I use this meter with my Mamiya RZ67 and Yashica Mat TLR. I have a Minolta light meter, but using this app on my iPhone is often more practical. Great app!

Sorry, but no cigar
Take a look at the classic view and notice the f stop only goes to f.22. Next, it asks if you want to preset your lens info giving you a max f stop of 16, and that will not change even if you you list your film size/sensor type at 4x5. I shots 4x5 film, and this light meter is worthless to me. My f stops go up to 45 and 64, so the classic isn’t so classic. Waist of money.

Pretty Pretty Good
It lets you run through many iterations of all the weird cameras out there. I used it for a Yaschia A 6x6 camera shooting 100/400 ISO , 80mm lens . All my pics turned out spot on given a 65 year old camera . I use it all the time even for digital just to compare notes .

A Great Surprise
Compared to my highly accurate Gossens this meter is surprisingly accurate. Frankly, I was skeptical of a phone based meter until I made comparisons under various lighting conditions to the the Gossens.

MYLightmeterPro is extremely useful for film photography. The ability to capture record shots with exposure info is essential for my use of tracking the per-shot exposure setup on older cameras with no built-in method for adding data to the image.

Worthwhile
I almost never rate an app, but I felt the need to for this one. It’s an excellent and simple app. It doesn’t have unnecessary frills or try to milk money through subscriptions. It gets the job done very well.
This app is also why I still practice film photography. The built in light-meter on my Pentax broke not long after I was given it. If it weren’t for this app, I would not have continued the hobby.

The app is super easy to use and works great! I wish it had a bit more customization options for the app’s skin and maybe some camera presets. I could set up a camera to automatically adjust its settings based on my current camera or lens settings. But I think I might just be missing something simple with the current options!

I use this app whenever i forget to bring my Sekonic meter. It helps me get a close reading for what I am doing with my film. I just wish you could create your own profile that included limiters for ISO, Aperture and Shutter speeds as it would help between the types of cameras I use.

It’s a great little app that helps take great pictures. I’ve been using it on spontaneous trips when a physical meter isn’t available. Most people always have their phone on them, why not have a quick tool to help in a pinch.

Best Free light meter Ever!

Great Light Meter App
I mainly use this app with my pinhole cameras because I can set a very small aperture, then the film ISO, and get the closest approximation of exposure time without any complicated calculations. Lots of settings makes this app valuable for any photographer. I recommend it!

Perfect accessory app for film photography
Can't find anything to complain about! Provides accurate matrix and spot metering. I use it with my 70 year old TLR and my 90 year old folder and get accurate exposures 90% of the time. Any misses I'm sure are down to the lack of precise shutter speeds and aperture in those cameras. So much cheaper than a separate meter and never have to worry about not having one with me. Sometimes I just pull it out and meter my surrounding to test my eye.

Best light metering app IMO
I Have used this app for about 4yrs, to meter scenes for 35mm and 120 film photography and for what it is, in my opinion it’s easily the best light meter app for IOS. Out of the 3-4 other ones I’ve tried out over the years it’s the most customizable as far as parameters and settings, you can also make custom lens profiles for quick access to locked settings, which I haven’t found in any others. It also has two different UI’s, One gives you a good bit more information like your hyperfocal distance and near focusing distance and the EV of the scene as well as being able to fine-tune and set limits on your shutter speeds and apertures. Most of all the accuracy of the meter is surprisingly good and you can evaluate a whole scene or take spot readings by tapping the area you want metered on the screen in pro mode. I have also compared with my 5d mkii meter and gotten comparable results. If you do notice it leaning more over or under exposed there is 1/3 stop Increment's of compensation +\- you can adjust in the settings. All in all a great tool for the one time price, especially if you don’t have much use for an expensive Light Meter for the type of photography you do this is definitely the best budget way to go.

It works but without focal length and spot metering I don’t use it anymore.
I used this with a 50mm lens with good results. Im not sure the actual field of view or focal length this measures but its harder to use and more inaccurate with wider and longer lenses esp with 60/40 meters. I don't understand why the window is a circle when camera sensors are rectangular. The app I use now has a slider you can change the focal length and also has a spot meter to expose for particular regions much more useful.

Great results
I bought this app to use with my Rolleicord V, which has no built in metering. The results have been excellent, and the app was much cheaper than buying batteries for my old Gossen Lunasix. It's quick and intuitive to use, and I like the way I can tap to spot meter a point in the scene.

I’m an amateur film photographer with a highly limited short-term memory. This app enables shooting in very odd lighting conditions on cameras with a limited choice of shutter speed (one of my cameras is from the 1940s), and removes the risk that I divide wrong and ruin an exposure.

Works great for Wet Plate Collodion as well
I found that the app has setting for Daguerreotype. Even though collodion isn’t daguerreotype it is pretty close. As a beginning wet plate photographer, I didn’t have the experience to get a good starting exposure. Using this app in daguerreotype mode, I can usually nail the first exposure.

Awesome Light Meter
After testing the light meter through low light conditions in comparison to my Sekonic, the meter is off by 1/3, luckily the app’s settings allow you to include 1/3+ to all future readings.
Sometimes I’d forget my meter at home, and this app is going to help a megaton as a backup.

On par with spot meter in OM4
I tested this along side my Olympus OM4t’s internal spot meter and it was spot on. Only downside is it’s kinda fussy with 200 iso on 6x7 cameras. Especially the 6x7 because it will tell you f stops that you don’t have. But that’s partially the fact that the lens doesn’t give display every f stop. Overall this app work’s impressively well. Makes film photography more accessible witch is needed with how expensive film is.

great but now broken?
This app has been great for years until today, all of a sudden the shutter speed dial only goes up to 240. beyond that no numbers even show up. I looked in the settings to see if something had changed and the minimum shutter value was still set to 500 as it should be. i deleted and redownloaded the app and yet for some reason it only goes to 1/240. this makes the app unusable for me now. Developers of the app, can you help?

Just went back to black and white film. Once I got this light meter app it changed how great the photos are coming out. It works amazing I don’t even use the hand held light meter this is easier especially when trying to shoot quick.

Long Exposure Life Saver
I wanted to wait until I got my film back before reviewing this app. I absolutely love the design of it and handling it is a breeze. Most importantly though it WORKS. I am a film photographer who shoots landscapes and waterfalls. Long exposure for waterfalls needs an accurate meter reading. I took a chance on a $4 app before burning $200+ on a real meter and it paid off. I got accurate and *consistent* exposures across 3 different lenses and 4 different film stocks. I wish I could include the photos this app helped produce in the review because it is spectacular. Easy to use in the field with instant results and high sensitivity to lighting changes. I am very pleased and so thankful someone put this out there for such a low price. ***I would like to point out that, when compared to my camera’s self meter, it’s results were less accurate indoors. If you mainly shoot portraiture or indoor scenes I can’t speak to how accurate it will be for that, but I give it a 10/10 for natural light

For Instant Cameras—-Update.
The developer added the three Instax formats as separate film sizes!!! Perfect!!!
I use this app primarily with different instant cameras including the Mint RF70 and SLR 670. Really allows me to nail the exposure and concentrate on the image. Emailed the developer about the hyperfocal distance for the RF70 and he advised using the 4x5” film size as a conservative measurement. Great app!!!

Fantastic app
I had a lot of trouble getting my account recognized at first, but customer service stepped up to the plate and fixed it. Worth it! Spectacular maps and features and definitely eclipses my old Garmin. Of course, get a battery to prolong walking around, and iPhone screens are iffy in the sun, but none of that is the app’s fault. Love it! And thank you customer service.

Brilliant app, Responsive support.
Recently I had noticed a to EV reading discrepancy between the classic and pro modes. David responded to my email within literally minutes and gave me some things to look at. Ultimately fixing the issue was simply deleting the app, rebooting my phone, and then reinstalling. In hindsight I should’ve known to try this first, but it was good to have a brief conversation with the developer. Excellent app, super support!

I was a bit skeptical at first but I just picked up a camera with no meter and needed something quick for a trip and for only $3 it was worth a try compared to buying an expensive meter. I received scans back from the lab and all of the exposures were metered exactly how I intended when using the app(used in pro mode with selective metering). I like to travel with the least I can and always have my phone on me so I’ll keep using this app in the future.

I shoot a lot of film on vintage cameras, and I find that this meter is unbelievably accurate. I have a Luna six classic light meter which works as well, but having a program on my phone which is always in my pocket, makes this a true winner!

Nicely Done
I am a collector of vintage photography. I have hundreds of cameras, in just about every format. I really appreciate all of them and their differences. Using this app has been a joy to use for all my toys. I, like others was a little unsure about getting the app but I heard so many great things and reviews, I figured I’d try it. Using this app and my own way of doing certain things over the years I get very nice results. It is truly a great app to have with you all the time.

A Lightmeter You Always Have On You
With my digital and film slrs with there auto everything, it’s nice to have an accurate meter with me when I take a fully manual camera out. It’s as accurate as my Gossen Luna Pro F and my old Sekonics. Thanks for keeping the app updated. Very handy to have with me all the time.

I use it almost every day
I highly rate this app which I use in concert with the Luxi incident light meter dome attachment on an old iPhone. I use it almost every day in my home tabletop studio and it is very accurate and intuitive to use, especially in the Classic mode which is very reminiscent of the Weston Master meter I used 40+ years ago.

Wow!
I was a little Leary when I first found this app. I wondered how a camera phone and software could accurately measure light. After all, physical light meters are quite expensive. However after reading the reviews and looking at just a few dollars for the app, I decided to pull the shutter! I am not disappointed!!
As soon as it was downloaded, I set up three different product shots in my studio. I measured the different lighting using Led always-on lights and then switched out to 2 strobes. The accuracy of this app blew me away! Out of three setups and several images captured, None were off the mark. Thank you for creating this app. I am so glad I found it!

Very Accurate
This is a great app, it’s right on. I’ve measured it against multiple light meters, including the excellent meter in a new leica MP and it’s great. There are a few features I wish it had, I wish I could save the measurements, lens and aperture/shutter and phone photo it’s taking, so I don’t have to keep a notebook of shots as well. I also wish it had frame lines for the lens it’s got as a preset.
But as a simple light meter, it’s excellent. I stopped carrying an additional meter after testing it.

Buy this app
I don’t ever rate apps but as a film photographer I feel as if I have to help out this independent app developer. I do not own an actual light meter but this app gives me the proper exposure settings for 1/20th of the cost. I will eventually go out and spend the money on a light meter but until then, this app suits my needs 100%. I shoot with a Mamiya RB67 and some Canon and Olympus 35mm SLRs and this app never fails any of the cameras.

Very handy
This is a great app. I’ve found it to be quite accurate. A feature I like is the ability to match the meter to specific focal length lenses. As I always have my phone with me, it saves the space that would be taken by a separate meter. The camera I muse it with is a Mamiya C330 Professional S and my normal meters are a Gossen Luna Pro and a Pentax Spotmeter

Super convenient and accurate
I love this app and have been using it for years! As long as I have my phone I always have a light meter. It’s very accurate, gets the same reading as my friend’s $200 “professional” meter. Works for everyday shooting and for large format work as well. Highly recommended.

Worth it
Just got my photos back from the developer and they look amazing. Each photo was exposed properly! I didn’t have a working light meter in my film camera so I decided to try this app out based off of a YouTuber’s recommendation, and it works well. No issues for me. I would definitely recommend.

It works.
I was skeptical about this product when dedicated light meters are hundreds of dollars. But, I wanted to give it a try.
I put this alongside my brand new Sony A7 III and metered a few dozen locations, indoors and outside. This meter app was within 1/3 of a stop each time or dead on the money. Well worth the purchase price.

Excellent App
I really don't know much about photography. I just wanted an app that would consistently quantify brightness. I surely can't make heads or tails of the PRO version but what impresses me is how consistently reads room light even with the lights out or sunlight. I have that other app that gives lumens and color temperature but it is not consistant. This app is a real tool.

Best meter app and great support!
I’ve been using this app regularly for nearly six years in combination with a Sekonic meter. By adjusting the EV setting, you can match the app to a traditional meter for even more accuracy. For the first time, after a recent update, I had problems with the app. I reached out to David and had a reply, including a work around within hours. The app was updated again within days and has been trouble free. It says a lot when a app has one problem in many years of use.

This is simply a great solution elegantly done. I use this App every time I pick up my camera and use it to even make me want to take pictures even more. Just love it and am still getting to the point where I know all its features.

Easy to use
Update July 2019. I haven’t used the meter for a while. When I opened it this morning I hit ‘don’t access my camera’ and BOOM! Screen went black and I can’t get back to the meter. Annoying. I guess I have to dump it and buy it again.
Old review when I liked this app: I have a bunch of old cameras, a couple don’t have meters so this works for me. I’m going to have my phone with me anyway so having the meter in my phone cuts down on gear. Some of these old cameras are heavy and bulky enough. DDahlberg

Good, but...
This app is pretty awesome, I found it to be super reliable as to what exposure it says. I matched it with my in-camera light meter and didn't find any problems. However, I found that about 1/3 of the time it would crash as soon as I opened it. Every thing else it great though given the price.

Tremendous support
I am new to rangefinder photography and using a light meter. I downloaded myLightMeter Pro a little while back and am now working to get proficient with it. I had a question regarding its use that I could not sort out via web searches, etc. I emailed David, the developer, and he responded in roughly 12 hours with the answer. That’s tremendous support and I wish o could vibe him 10 stars for it.

I absolutely love this light meter but...
It turns down my volume every time I open it. It’s a deadly accurate meter, my film comes out perfect while using it and I absolutely love it. But if you’re listening to music and trying to meter, it takes over the volume and mutes it. It’s a bug that’s never been fixed and it’s aggravating.

Surprisingly accurate
I tried the free version of this and was happy that my images came out looking great. So I bought the pro version because it beats paying $300 for Sekonic. I'll still use my actual light meter for bigger projects, or if I'm using strobes. But the handiness having an accurate light meter in my pocket all the time can't be understated. Great app.

Handier than my Gossen Luna Pro
I use a 1955 Rolleicord V when I shoot film (Ilford HP5 - 400). I like to carry as few things as possible - just the camera - and I would often leave my light-meter behind when I went out to shoot, relying on having memorized the “Sunny 16” rule to determine my exposure settings.
I bought this meter after trying the free version. I always have my iPhone in my pocket, and this apps blend of features and skewmorpic similarity to a meter I am familiar with is just great.

Great for old cameras
So I bought a few old cameras (mamiya c220, hasselblad 500cm) and none of them have a light meter, I was going to buy a dedicated meter but they are expensive and I don’t mind it but I will not use this cameras as my main format for now, so I tried this app (the pro version because a few dollars is nothing in the photography world) and the results where beyond my expectations!! Very impressive, very simple, and is in my pocket all the time :) thank you for such clever and great app!!
