Great! Just needs...

It should have some props and some already set poses. Like running, stalking or holding a weapon. Besides that is fairly great! Also the grid is a bit off. It somehow ends up behind the character when it should be under the models feet. And you can't tell your model to crouch which would also be useful.

Clunky

Conceptually great, but very tedious and difficult to use interface. Can't recommend it- I deleted it.

Not worth it

The UI is really unintuitive and hard to use. Muscles deform to inhuman positions.

What I'd like to see

I've always enjoyed pose tool, but I'm hoping to see some things that make it better.
One thing I'd like is for it to not be stuck in portrait mode, modern devices like iPad Pro's with their keyboard covers are often in the landscape position, so it would be nice if the app could do both.
It would be great if you had some on screen tools to drag/pan the canvas with Apple Pencil, and an on screen zoom tool would be welcoming. This would help for when we have the pencil in hand and don't want to touch the screen.
Would love to see keyboard shortcuts supported a well, and split screen multitasking so we can pop pose tool open while we are working in our creative softwares.
All that would be golden.

Promising but needs some features

This is a really good start with a simple intuitive interface. It's missing some important features to make it useful, though
It needs to be able to save more then one pose so that a library can be built up of different poses. Look at sketch pad pro's gallery for inspiration.
Having either different body types or scaling would be nice too. If you do this, please allow the scale/figure to be saved separately from the skeletal pose.
Undo would be nice but its not needed.
If the poser doc format is documented being able to import export would be icing on the cake.
Until at least the first is added, this would be difficult use for any type of production.

Great App for drawing

Very cool tool for posing for drawing but does need a few items like if you move the figure in the wrong direction should be undo button and be nice to layer a picture to copy a position of a photo but those could be in the update. great program

Save seems backwards

The save button seems counter intuitive. I don't know how many times now that I have had to redo a pose because I have hit the wrong directional arrow. I do enough web work that I read the up arrow as save and the down arrow as download a pose from memory into the workspace. Noooo! It really pisses me off that the pose is completely lost and I have to start all over. Even if there would be an undo, that would be better, but one touch and all my work is gone. Other than that, the app is fine. But that one UX issue is annoying as hell.

Absolutely FANTASTIC!

For the first time, in a very long time, an APP has exceeded all my expectations. I mean it. 99% of the time the APPs I purchase promise the world and don't deliver. This APP is easier to use, has more features, and does more than I ever thought it would for the price. Honestly, were this a piece of computer software it would be a $50+ investment. I love it already and I've only had it for 30 minutes. I needed an application that would let me pose the human form for inclusion in my Power Point slides--and POSER TOOL does that. You pose the form, then touch the camera icon and it snaps a screen shot of your posed form, and you take it from there. If it saved the files with a transparent background, that would be a nice feature. But I can use photoshop to do that until the developer makes the former a possibility. GREAT APP!

It's OK...

For the most part, it's a decent app. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either.
Like most of the reviewers this app really needs an 'undo' command. I'm surprised this is not an option.
Also, it does take a bit to get used to the controls. Even when you get accustomed to the controls, be careful to pay close attention to which body part you are moving. I found on occasions that somehow I inadvertently moved another body part without noticing.
This is due to the controls. If you move your fingers too far up or down when posing, you may have accidentally selected another body part without knowing.
For this I would suggest that the developer create an option that the selected body part have some sort of indication/highlight to let the user know which body part is in use.

Good so far has potential to be better!

Not bad for basic poses. Takes a little while to get used to. Clicking body parts by accident when tumbling model then hitting arrows with no undo. Would also be nice to export with a transparent background option.

Huge Issues

I love this app, but the issues in it are driving me insane.
1. Posing even with simple movements can extremely distort the figure, leaving me unable to reference what I need.
2. The interface jostles around when I tap with even one finger.
3. My saved poses are shifted greatly when I reopen them, and it is difficult to try and fix the pose to do what I need.
These need to be addressed for the app to work as I expect it to

Love It!

Thank you so much for this amazing app! I am giving it 4 stars only because it does not have "undo" unless i am missing something.
This is the first review i have ever done, so that should tell you something about how amazing this app is! Please add a "undo" feature, because after editing a pose for 20 minutes, i accidentally reset my figure.
Add the feature and i will bump you to 5 stars, and tell 5 friendsabout the app also!!

Nothing Else Comes Close!

Don't often write reviews but have to say that this is closest thing to Poser or Daz3D in the app store. Very stable on iPhone 6 Plus.
Took off one star because there is no Undo, which is a standard feature in even the most rudimentary apps.
Please also consider adding any of the following:
1. Ability to pose/save facial expressions.
2. Ability to pose/save hands.
3. Ability to directly export a PNG transparency of figure.
4. Ability to save camera and lighting set ups
5. Ability to bake one figure and add another? That way could depict at least two models interacting without murdering available RAM.
6. Ability to import own background image.
Thank you creating this app. You are awesome.

YES!

Pose Tool is pretty much everything an art ref app should be-- and then some. It has a great selection of helpful extra options and modes. And the best part? The mannequin is easy to control! Hallelujah!

Suggestion?

Wonderful app! I've been looking for something like this. But I think to take it a step further you can add a way to change face/body structure. Brilliant, but could be better.

It's a pretty brilliant tool. Not too advanced, but sufficient enough for my needs, which was to view a naked reference body in a particular pose and draw from it into something artistic. However, it would be nice if there were better camera options, for example, a fish-eye or extreme focus view for those exagerrated camera angles. Aside from that, I find this tool pretty useful.

So glad I ignored the negative reviews!!!

The negative reviews that I've read about this app come from people that expect too much from something that should be kept simple! If you add all of these other features then the controls would become way too complicated and you would start experiencing some serious lag!
For $4 I get to have a wonderful little model in my pocket. In a waiting room, a boring meeting, etc I can keep my skills sharpened.
The controls take a little getting used to but I figured it all out in ten minutes.
You can save 40 of your poses; 20 for the male, 20 for the female.
People are expecting too much for something that functions on your phone or iPad. Honestly. No, this app won't serve you breakfast in bed.
Not a criticism, just my own input. I would love to see an adjustable light source. But I'm hardly disenchanted because that function isn't there.
Thank you! Amazing app!

Fantastic

Great tool for my illustration work!
A couple of observations:
• hand doesn't cast shadow shadow on body
• add ability to enable real anatomy constraints and collision detection
• Love your app, but the interface could use a bit more work ... Are you limited interface-wise by using Unity?
• label or hints for the movement toggles or even direct manipulation of the model would be great.
• maybe a perspective grid overlay too

Good, was expecting it to be a bit more Poser-like...

I thought it would be a bit less tedious to pose things if you could actually touch and maneuver poses via gestures and not just dialing things up and down. IK would be needed, but it would really help expedite usage. Really needs a preset pose library and image export options.

One Major Fault.... BEWARE

This is a very fun, useful, and instructive app but I absolutely cannot figure out the load/ save feature. I have contacted the developer who insists it is my problem. He tells me to watch the video over and over. You have to go to his website to even see the video. This does not help! I believe it is a design problem. I hope this feature will be made more intuitive and easier to use. In the meantime it's a fun and useful app if you don't mind not saving the poses.

Great app!

I love this app. Very handy and flexible.
Here are some things that I would like to see....
-would love to be able to apply different colors to the light sources
-I would prefer sliders that are labeled instead of the joystick selectors for movement.....
-would pay extra if I could manipulate the facial expressions
-zoom/pan/rotate move too fast for my taste...a setting to adjust this would be awesome

Excellent

Quite possibly the best artist's reference tool out there; combined with Barcsay's 'Anatomy for the Artist,' anyone who seeks to understand human anatomy better will be all set.
Three things I would suggest:
-Landscape orientation compatibility
-Skeleton figure model
-Option to manipulate facial features individually to create different expressions.
Overall an almost perfect app; I cannot praise it highly enough. :)

Exceeded My Expectations

What I like:
-Robust posing options
-Individual fingers
-Several body types (ectomorph, endomorph, etc)
-Save/Load desired pose
-Box/ Segmenting options to help "see"
-Very nice lighting options
-Accurate pinching and pulling of major muscles
What I'd like to see:
-A slightly more obvious indicator of what I have selected. Perhaps a gradient that only appears when moving (so as to not throw off the lighting engine)?
-Option to name saved poses
-Even if it were an up-charge, I'd value a generic youth model.

A bit awkward

It's okay... I mean... It will pose a figure pretty much.
But it desperately needs undo and redo buttons... And a clearer interface for saving a loading... I have lost work because the icons are confusing, not labeled, and have identical appearance so you can't tell if you are about to delete everything you did with no hope of recovery...
And WHY is this the ONE app that doesn't automatically save the file?
Needs toe posing support.

Great app and getting better!

I found out about this app on the website of Riven Phoenix who has a series of human drawing videos. The app reminds me of a mini version of Poser or Daz3d. A variety of preset poses included or offered to compliment this app would cut down on time but overall excellent.

Excellent great improvement potential

Great pose controls. Suggest the following improvements:
1. Preset hand positions, such closed fist, peace sign, etc.
2. Improvement in simulation of the hip to allow "muscles" to keep natural shape in extreme positions of leg
3. Limits that do not permit model joints to bend past natural limits
Excellent product, overall.

A really great tool with room for improvement.

This is an amazing tool for figure drawing. The only suggestion I'd have is to make interacting with the model a little more natural. It would be great to have an option to directly grab and drag individual body parts, instead of having to move them with the buttons on the side. The current way works, but it could stand to be made a little less stiff.
Nawmay
Version 6.8.34
2013-10-04

Ok

The posing is a little limiting. Wish you could drag limbs into place by touch. Or, if dials are absolutely needed, there should be a way to make it react to a centre of gravity somehow. Also, the female body's shoulders are a little broad, buff, and rigid. All the 3d pose apps in the App Store have this problem, but in real life..women are more petite can drop their shoulders.
Someone else mentioned that there should be a few sample poses to work from and they're right. It would really help.

This is just what I was looking for.

This is the just the kind of application that touch screens were meant for. I've been searching for a long time for an easy-to-use 3d poser without having to learn to be 3d animator first. The tool is easy to pickup and go. Developer: In a future update it would be helpful to have a tool to move the 0,0,0 point to, for example, the hand so as you are doing fine manipulations of the fingers it would be easier to keep what you are focused on in frame as you orbit. That is the only tricky thing about using this app.

Version 6.8.34
2013-09-14

Great

It's a very nice tool for figuring out how a pose should look and how shadows fall without having to set up a physical person. I just hope that they keep improving on it and updating it because it really is great, but can be greater. Changing facial expressions would be phenomenal, but I see how it would be tough to do. The only problem I have with it is the skin doesn't always respond correctly when trying to do extreme poses like slouching one shoulder or bending the legs at the knees in a crouching position. Full digit control would be nice on the hands, but I'm sure that will come
Joe crow 11

Perfect

I've been looking for something like this, but I'm blown away with the amount of control I get. Multiple light sourcing. The one thing I wish was possible is the facial features. Needs control of the jaw and eyebrows. And maybe the toes. If it had those features I'd rate 5 star and brag to every artist I work with about it...

Version 6.8.34

Fantastic app that has lots of potential to be even better

Great manipulation control of just about every aspect of the body you'd want to move. Really top notch attention to manipulation detail. Definitely allows you to create a sense of realism with the figures.
Areas where it could improve have been mentioned below. I like the suggestion for individual slider controls for each body part rather than the joystick controls. Would also say that a button to reset individual parts to default position (sometimes you can get lost when trying to correct) would save users from having to reset full figure.
An option to save a pose to camera roll is needed. The rotation/pan controls to move around figure could also use some taming as they're rather jumpy.
Additional skins (skeletal/mannequin) would be great too but not necessary. Happy with the existing skins so not top priority for me right now.
Add camera roll save and tune the rotate/pan controls and this is definitely a 5 star app. Great work.

Great app, minor tweaks would make it better

I love this app, it functions great on most aspects and has really helped me with tricky poses. True sometimes you get clipping, but it's an ipad app, not a desktop program. It works GREAT for the money!
My only major point of issue is the camera rotation. I can never seem to get the figure to turn left/right without them turning diagonally. If you and in an X, Y, and Z axis rotation tool (like for the limbs only it moves the camera) that would be awesome. You wouldn't have to remove the current rotation method, just adding a "fine control" rotation method.

One of the best tools an aspiring artist can have!

If you're looking for a tool to help you draw a certain pose that you want to create, this is it. The only things to make this better would be an option for a skeletal view as well as the musculature view, different creatures as in-app purchases, and the ability to send a picture of your scene to your camera roll without using a screenshot. Great, except

It's a little tedious to pose each body part. it would be much easier if each part had a 3D sphere that could adjust on the XYZ plane. Or something similar.

Pretty good for simple purposes

This is pretty good for simple purposes like making sure that poses are balanced and appropriately sized. A handy tool for those less familiar with improvising the the human figure. I wouldn't recommend it as an academic reference. This is by no means a good tool for learning human anatomy. One feature that i'd like to see implemented is a ground plain and the ability to cast a shadow on to it.

Not bad, could be better

It's a okay start, however the app is missing a lot of useful things I was kind of surprised I did not see. It needs:
- A better explanation on the button directions
- Undo and Re-Do buttons.
- Perspective change, with separate camera movement
- More body changes like the ability to add fat or reduce fat to body areas like breasts, legs, stomach, and arms.
- The ability to save it as a .jpeg or .png
- The ability to change background colors
- Cut and Paste feature like saving as a raster or vector
- Finger Nails
- Facial movements like eyebrows, and mouth would be nice
- Movable Shadow for figure would be good.
- The ability to make a child by reducing the length of Arms and Legs would be nice.
When I'm using it, it's very easy to move the wrong direction and screw up the entire pose. It won't rotate in the one direction I need it to from "side to side". I didn't like the fact I couldn't change size of the breasts like for a fairy or child reference. Beyond those fixes it not terrible, but it is very limited. I'm glad someone has made the app because it is helpful and I appreciate the time it took to create the app, however for an artists like myself, it limits my personal options.

Thank you!

I love this app, it's so useful! One thingI'd love to have implemented is an undo last button as sometimes I hit the wrong rotation an would be a lot easier to just hit an undo. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for making this app.

Fantastic reference for artists.

LOVE this app for drawing reference. Only things I wish they would address is to make the pose button move the parts a little faster and I would really love to see a cell shaded lighting setup. Great work developers!

Awesome!

Very cool app.
Pros: Very easy to learn how to use, and it has a decent interface.
Cons: Can be a bit slow when you're moving and rotating body parts. When you rotate the model, wherever you clicked to rotate, that body part will be selected. PLEASE FIX THAT. Quite pricey. I think a $1.99 price point would be better for attracting more people. I paid the $4.00 because I wanted to support your app development.
You have a great app right now so it can only get better from here.

Solid.

What's good: Complex poses can be achieved very quickly just by doing a few taps and drags. Basic options of body types and gender should satisfy most users. I haven't seen anything this easy on IOS or the Mac.
What can improve: Adding a clothed version of the body will be very useful to me. Even if it's just a texture map applied to the body like it's done with the muscle overlay. Saving poses should not have a limit of 20. The whole concept of saving slots seems odd and feels like a Wii experience. I rather it save to iCloud so that I can switch from iPhone to iPad easily. Right now there's no way to export, import or output the final composite as an image. A strange omission since it limits the app's usefulness. I would love to export these poses as transparent PNGs that I can then import into Photoshop for composing.
What I would to see aded: Animation! I would love to select two poses and have the app fill the steps in between and save as a movie or image sequence. This will make a great tool for illustrating some basic motion of the body.

Body types wanted

I love the range of poses that are possible now that I can pose the hips.
However, there is still a lack in body types that can be used. Body types, from the other reviews, are in great demand. To help with this, why don't you guys add sliders that change the proportion of the body parts. The types of bodies could then be virtually limitless. Also, try putting in a face selection list, along with emotions.
It would also be awesome as someone else also suggested, if there were pose tools for animals. I would love that!

I luv it its fantastic

It really is a great app, you should include diffrent age groups, being able to move toes, being able to make two models at a time, and also being able to pose animals, and being able to pose facial expression

Worth every penny!

This app is definitely worth a try for anyone learning to draw the human figure. You can manipulate the models into almost any pose you want, and there are even options to change the body type (ex. A heavyset model or a skinny one). I say almost any because when you twist the arms or legs in certain positions the joints start to cut away. It's a bit annoying, but easy enough to fix when you draw it. I was also kind of hoping there would be a few basic presets you could edit, but there aren't any. That way you wouldn't always have to start from scratch. These are just minor details though.
Overall this app is a fantastic reference tool, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Simple but effective

This really is a great ap and the lighting options alone make it worth the minimal cost.
I DO wish that there was a control axis for the hips instead of just "abs" then right to upper leg. So, alas I wasn't able to get the movement I ultimately wanted. I hope for an update if that's ever possible to change.
Still, that's a minor complaint for an overall strong but simple to use ap.
In addition to the request for hip movement controls I'd also suggest a couple of set poses (sitting, sleeping, random hero poses) so people can make alterations to those and save a little time on some pose set up.

An amazing app, but room for more improvement

I think this is an incredible app, and I've been waiting for an app like this. But there is a lot of things you can do to improve this app. Like you could make a way so your only drawing 1 body part instead of the entire human body. Like just the human hand, or just 1 foot, or other parts of the human body. Or you could make the human body look more anime like, etc.

Could use pose presets

Being able to pose the model is great! But it does take a bit of time (just maybe minutes, nothing drastic) to slowly rotate all the limbs the way you want, you have to select the part first then rotate on each axis. It therefore would be good to have a library of preset poses like arms crossed, running etc. Without a preset library, the app gets 5 stars because it's easy, intuitive and the five different models plus muscle map for each gender are great. With a preset library, no other figure drawing app would ever compete ever! I'm thinking of getting another app for just some preset pose photos for when I want to browse through for ideas or practice, and don't have a complex pose in mind. This app could even charge more if it had such a pose library, and thus become a combination of all the best features of all pose reference apps! And it would really just take some time to build a few dozen poses and include them, not much technical work just grunt work. I could do it even.

Great app with loads of potential

I was very excited to find this application. While not perfect, it is extremely helpful. It is very responsive and easy to use, even on the iPhone.
Probably the biggest thing that would be helpful in future updates would be the addition of the anterior / posterior / and lateral flexion / extension of the pelvis. Rotation seems to be covered with rotation of the trunk.
Some of the muscle deformities at the could also be improved at the extremes of ROM. Try putting the figure into hip flexion and the distortion becomes evident. Put the upper extremity into a true archers stance and the forearm withers away.
But I am being picky here- this is intended as Constructive criticism for the author of the program. I can't imagine what the programming behind this must be like. Anyone with an artistic imagination can correct those deficiencies easily enough while drawing.
The concept of this program is amazing and it is executed very well. I look forward to future updates and what the author has in store for this excellent program! Well worth the price!

So helpful for me.

(While a live model is always best, this is pretty good.) I always get stuck on how to make believable poses without staging everything with photos or paying for a model/getting good friends to model. Not only for painting but just drawing in general. its like figure drawing on the go. The app can only get better, coupled with a figure drawing book and references for different faces and body types, and a little creativity this app is great.

Pose Tool 3D

I initially had a lot of issues with this App until I received an email response from it's creator Riven Phoenix. I would tap on a the joint of the arm and the shoulder would move. If you look in the upper left corner of the screen you will see, in very small type, the name of the body part you are attempting to move. If you are trying to manipulate the forearm for example, and you have tapped on the elbow, the upper arm may be notated in the upper left corner of the screen, not the forearm. You need to tap near the joint but down on the body part until the correct part is noted. After this I had no more problems.

Must have for artists!

This seems to be a beginning version of the app and I look for truly great things to come. Within an hour of downloading the app (and finally watching the video tutorial) I was able to pose the figure in some wonderful ways.
I attended a life-drawing session earlier in the day and was able to pose the app model just like the live model earlier and imitate the light so I could continue to work out a sketch. Very cool!!!
The ability to turn and manipulate the model is wonderful. Being able to control light source and intensity is absolutely amazing! The added benefits to learning life drawing from the muscle overly, mannequin, life drawing will advance any student's skills quickly if they apply themselves.
It isn't perfect. It freezes up occasionally. You can save the pose you are working on and open it back up after closing the app - but you can't save a pose to your camera roll or export it. For now it seems to be one-at-a-time posing.
I'm giving it four stars even with those two major drawbacks because I see very great things happening with this app if it is worked on and updated!

The best!!

Is absolutely the most useful tool besides my pencil! Is the next best thing next to a photograph. You can move every body part in any way you need, isn't hard to figure out to to use the program at all. :) I recommend this to anyone, new artists to artists like me who have been drawing for a decade and then some. Love it! Get it!

Awesome!! But....

This app rocks!!! But if possible can you please have an update to save the poses one creates in a library to be able to load them again in the future? Maybe even a screenshot option built in? The potential is amazing for the this app, keep up the awesome work!

Very good

I really like this app for its ease of use, and good quality of models. It also gives great and easy use of lighting, allowing you to adjust the angle and intensity of each of 3 lights. My only wish is that it had the ability to 1) save multiple poses and 2) save snapshots- if it had those 2 features I'd give it 6 stars! For my expectations, this app gives me more than my money's worth. On my iPad I had no trouble selecting whichever body part I wanted to adjust.

Has issues

This is a relatively useful app but it needs a better save, file and library function. One major issue is that the active screen area for manipulating a body area is too small and your finger will overlap the screen area triggering motion of the entire figure. This results in a very annoying problem of your moving the figure when it needs to stay still and you attempt to alter the position of a body part.

Awesome pose tool for artists, students, teachers, digital media, etc.

This is an extremely creative and useful app for artists, students, teachers, digital media artists. It can be used in a multitude of ways - story boarding, illustration, graphic design, CG-gaming character design, brain storming to name just a few. The creator of this app is an avid supporter of the artistic community/industry and his dedication to his craft is apparent in all his work.

5-Star Potential

I think this app is fabulous, and will be 5-star material with a few fixes. I love all the action poses you can get from this, and the total control you have over the model. The only problem is that if you just pick it up and start playing with it, it's fairly easy to disfigure the model, and I found myself having to hit the reset button a lot and start over. I know the author is planning to add a save feature which will help a lot, as would an undo button. Regardless, I'm sure this app will help me a lot with my drawings.
