Description

Beastmaker App.
The time has arrived when phones are as smart as computers so it seemed like a good time for us to provide our customers with a sidekick worthy of the beastmaker. We’ve attempted to lay out a bunch of benchmark workouts in this app which link together in a tiered structure of difficulty. The Idea being it makes the board easier to use and more fun. You can accurately time hangs on holds and record your progress.
Remember to always vary your arm lock offs whilst fingerboarding and stop immediately if any twinges occur.
1000series:
This has 10 pre programmed workouts
from font 5a to 7c
2000series:
This has
7 pre programmed workouts from 6C to 8A+ish
6 pre programmed workouts aiming to train a grip type.
The grip types are Crimps, pockets and slopers
Custom Timer (free hang): This is for people who have their own workout and who know what they’re doing on the board but who still stand to benefit from the serene sound of a piano note letting them know when to grab and when to let go.
It also has the workout function built in allowing you to track your progress no matter what fingerboard your using.
My Workouts:
This is a database built into the app which records your selected workouts by order of date. You need to tap on the "record button" and rate your hang to have it recorded. The idea being that you can see whether you are progressing in the exercises and which grips you are strong and weak on. This function should give you a good sense of time when it comes to training and that steady progress is being made between fingerboarding cycles, even if you only do 4 week cycles of it once a year!
Workout Screen:
This lists how many hangs there are in the exercises. You can exit to this screeen at anytime and jump down to a different hang. This is incase you get distracted whilst working out and need to return to the exercise at the point you left it. It also lets you know the workout rest times (which you can skip at any point whilst you hang)
General advice:
There is some general fingerboarding advice in the workouts section with do’s and don’ts of fingerboarding.
Hang Screen:
This is the main function of the app. We’ve tried hard to make it as easy for you as possible whilst dangling. The fingerboard is pictured and depending on the hang the hands move around to tell you the grip type and where to grab. The timer goes green when you should be hanging and red when you should be resting.
The timer counts down whilst you hang and there is a piano chime to let you know when to grab and when to let go. There are warning beeps when the set of hangs is nearing its end. This is incase the screen isn’t in clear view whilst you are hanging.
If you get distracted elsewhere then you can quickly hit pause what your doing and resume it later.
If for some reason you weren’t ready you can restart the exercise at any time.
Rest time:
After the exercise is finished. In your rest time a number of things happen.
the timer gradually counts down your rest, upon this ending you will then immediately start the next exercise without having to press the screen. There are warning beeps when the rest period is nearing its end.
In the rest you can tap the record workout button and you’ll be faced with a slider to record how much you failed (we are a British company after all) whilst you’re doing this the rest timer will continue as per normal.
You don’t have to record your workouts as you train but it is there incase you’ve got nothing better to do in the 2 and a half minutes.
Be aware that at the moment if you leave the app to browse your phone check twitter or play on angry birds during your rest etc then it will stop the timer. so you will have to remain on the app page and focus on your training whilst you train unfortunately. But you can pause the workout if you need to leave the app for whatever reason.

Great timer app even if you don't have a Beastmaker.

I'm poor and I don't have a Beastmaker, but I have been training on an old Woodgrips hangboard for a couple months. I used the stopwatch on my phone and could only manage to do a 10 seconds on, 10 seconds off reps with 2 minute rests, due to my mathmatically challenged brain. This app takes all the counting out of the session and makes it SUPER easy to design a workout no matter your ability level or hangboard you're using. There are hundreds of hangboard workouts on the internet. Use this app to make it easier to get your training in. Cheers to Beastmaker for putting this out there.

Good app

Good app! Easy to use with their hang boards. Sometimes pausing a workout and skipping hangs messes up the order of hangs and it redoes a hang or skips too far forward. Also would like a grip definition page where each grip is explained in detail with tips and tricks. It has the grips at the bottom of the page but I have no clue what they are without looking it up on their website-who wants to stop their workout to look this up? And the diagram doesn't show it too well. Overall good app just need to add a grip definition page!

I love this app!

This is an amazing app to complement the amazing beastmaker hangboard! I purchased the beastmaker 2000 thinking I was a semi-decent climber but was quickly humbled with the most beginner workout. I would please ask if you could add a workout, perhaps in the 5 range. I am not very strong on my back two fingers so I think incorporating an offset routine and possibly a more pull up centric routine would be amazing to try. I have no complaints to this app at all and the update was fantastic! Only things on my wish list for the future

Timer fails in background

Why doesn't the timer work when the app is in the background?

Good, but has some bugs

The app is good overall. I like the custom timer; however, the counters are off by one. This is a trivial change that should be corrected easily.

Great workouts - ok app

The good: The workouts are good and hard.
There isn't much here for beginners. The easiest workout on the beast maker 2000 is difficult to complete for me. I climb v6-v7 in the gym. I'm happy with the difficulty but want to warn weaker climbers.
The app hasn't been updated in forever. It would be great to have a 2 Player mode so that you can work out with a friend. It would be great to do partial workouts like someone else suggested in another review. If you leave the app and come back mid-workout the timer will not have moved so your rests cannot be productive.

Workout tracking?

1. You are unable to record partial workouts. Some days I don't want to or dont have time to do 18-21 grip positions. The app only lets you record full workouts. Would be nice to track progress in shorter or custom workouts...
2. the view of the app becomes distorted when the phone is flipped on its side.
3. The timer stops when you leave the app to use other phone functions (text, email, etc) during the workout.
Other than that the app is awesome. Feeling stronger already!
Thanks!

Simple and Useful

You already knew how to use the Beastmaker. This makes it simpler to time your workout and keep on track. Worth the two bucks.
