Description

The idea behind this application is that it will help you track and manage your Vitamin D.
This new version integrates with the Apple Health app to make seamless data exchange possible in the following ways:
* on setup, profile information is fetched from the Health App if the user allows it
* the user's weight (a factor in D generation) is fetched on an ongoing basis, making it unnecessary to update it
* the app will write vitamin D doses, including session information into the Health app
You setup basic information one time, like your height and weight and skin type and then any time you are outside, during the prescribed hours (and parts of the year), you can have it compute the amount of D you are getting in a stopwatch interface. It will also track how long you can stay out and warn you when the time is up.
The application will notify you with the next opportunity to generate vitamin D.
Each day, you can see forecasts based on your location, and you can also see the solar position, your generated vitamin D vs. target etc.
In the Pro version, you can see your exposures's history and you will be able to schedule future events for next exposures.

Fixed – Black screen

Deleted, then re-downloaded and it seems to be working, but I haven’t used it yet. Hopefully it will work properly when I use it this afternoon.
———-
When I click the app to open it, nothing but a black screen happens and it stays that way. None of the updates have had any effect on that whatsoever. Please fix! I want to go back to giving this app a five star review. As it is, with the black screen, I have to say one.

Before overhaul of the design, never experienced hardly any glitches. While some have been fixed, it seems
That new ones keep popping up. Most recent is halfway through a session it will reset the location and time spend on one side. Just a few days ago I did a 60 minute session and after saving it only recorded one minute of the session. Glitch after glitch after glitch… disappointing

What happened to manual entry?!

There is nowhere to add a manual entry anymore since this new big update. If I want to add a time I was in the sun but didn’t have my phone or tablet with me, the menu item for a manual entry is gone. Not acceptable.
I lost years of data trying to solve the black screen at startup too.

Not happy about new layout

Sad to see that you can no longer view the UVA or UVB rise. That was prime info for me. I hate that I need another app now. Prior to this new change I LOVED this app. I really hope they can bring it back. 3 stars now, prior 5.

What happened?!

This use to be the best app, and I recommended it to all of our clients in our functional medicine practice. I’m not sure what happened, but I can’t even use it anymore without restarting everyday. It has an “update” everyday, but clearly they are updating absolutely nothing!

It’s Back!

This app had been completely unusable for about a three month span. With the latest update it looks like they got it to work. I was able to fully track a sun session without any problems. I like the new interface as well. They have actually improved this app to make it significantly more helpful and overall better.

Used to love it! What happened?

User for many years. Loved it. Suddenly asked to reset all my data…(don’t think it used the backup.) BIGGEST ISSUE FOR ME-used to be able to retroactively input a session. Now seems to only allow input up to 1/2 hour afterwards and very unclear how to do that. BIG BUMMERINO! App no longer useful to me if that’s the case! When it was the previous set-up I gave it 5 stars!😬😱

App Buggy

I loved this app until recently. I don’t know if they added the ads and that caused this issue. But now everytime I open the app it shows a RECOVERY MODE failed to start message and I have to save my data and then restart the app. Luckily my data is still there. But I’ve deleted the app and downloaded it again twice. And yesterday I was out for an hour and it only recorded I was out for 1min.
I’m going to look for a different app today because I can’t deal with this uncertainty.
I’m happy to pay for an app without ads and bugs that is reliable.

Got me safely back in the sun

As a pale person who grew up in the desert and has had second-degree sunburns in my past, I used to avoid the sun entirely. As a result, my vitamin D levels were dangerously and chronically low. But since I started using this app back in 2018, I’ve been able to bring my D levels back up to healthy levels, avoid burns, and actually enjoy the sun. This latest release though has taken the app to a whole new level. It includes many features I’ve hoped for. One thing it leverages that no other app does is the include the impact of local ozone levels. That has a major impact on the accuracy of the app. Development has been highly responsive, fixing bugs quickly and improving the app regularly. It’s a worthy investment in your health.

Major Issues Since Update

Update: Even after updates almost every day, the app is still unusable to me. I don’t know if I’m an edge case or something. I am running iOS 26.5 Beta. I’m still very dissatisfied with the new version. I wish they would have kept the old version available. Completely unusable in its current state. Also, when I tried emailing customer support, I got an unable to deliver message. If there are other ways of contacting the developer, it should be noted on the website. Devs, please make this app usable again!! I really want to use it this summer. There are no other apps that do what this one does.
I love this app, and it’s been getting constant updates since the latest major one, it it’s still unusable for me. I uninstalled and reinstalled to see if that would fix it. It just made it worse. Now I can’t get past the location access screen.

I’m giving up

I’ve had this app for 6 years, and depended on it whenever I went outside. It was very dependable. I’ve been patient thru the everyday updates. I can’t use it for sun tracking because it will turn off automatically. The vitamin D levels are no longer accurate at all. I decided to use this app to just track my supplements and nothing else. I opened up the app this morning and it would crash when I tried to enter supplements, so I just gave up and deleted it. I do not recommend this app to ANYONE! It is buggy and will cause your iPhone to overheat due to all of the bugs. I don’t understand why a developer would do a complete tear down of something that was working so well for years. There are better vitamin D tracking apps out there and some that are in development due to this app being so disastrous.
Castortroy000100
2026-05-15

If it ain’t broke…

This was the best app for years! I used it daily to track my VitaminD & to get a healthy amount of sun without getting too much or burning. Now, since the update (and almost daily updates) it is a nightmare. It will run & look like it’s tracking your Sun Session only to end & look like you didn’t even get a minute after 20 minutes. The IUs are off, it freezes and crashes repeatedly — literally every 5 seconds. I really hope the developer reads these reviews & responds with an improved app experience. Heck, just give us back the original version that worked perfectly for YEARS before they decided to mess with it a coupe months ago.
JustWantAnAppThatWorksss!
2026-05-14

What Happened???

This used to be the best app out there. But, they messed with a good thing. It’s been all downhill since the revamp. It doesn’t seem like it will recover. Updates every day to fix new things. It’s tiresome. The functionality has dropped phenomenally. What is going on? I used to be able to add 10 minutes to the clock because I forgot to set the timer and it would add the time and my IU’s. There’s an option to go back up to 30 minutes, but when you press start, the 30 minutes aren’t there and neither are the IU’s. Not to mention the many other problems. So sad.

2026-05-06

Once dependable, no broken

I started using this app in 2024 on my doctor's recommendation to track my vitamin D levels, and it quickly became something I depended on. It was quirky, but it worked--alerts arrived in time to help me avoid sunburn, and the vitamin D readings lined up reasonably well with my lab tests.
Unfortunately, the recent redesign has been a major step backward. The app is now unstable, with constant updates (sometimes multiple times a day) that feel like releases with little or no beta testing. The new calculations are inconsistent and, in some cases, plainly incorrect. I can confirm this because I still have the previous version on another phone and its results differ noticeably.
Right now this app isn't ready for prime time. I would hesitate to pay for it until the developers perform thorough testing and restore reliable, accurate tracking.

New Update Disaster

This app used to simple effective and informative-ever since the update this year I’ve had nothing but problems.
I recently deleted one of the duplicate apps that I had on my homepage and now all of my information is gone. I had years of #DATA and the paid service. I’m not sure what I’m getting anymore and it’s very confusing to use, to add sessions, to terminate sessions, etc.. I’m sure updates will continue to go on but the simplicity of the initial app is gone
Yogiathome
2026-04-16

This is getting so frustrating.

I’ve tried to be patient with this over the last couple weeks. I depend on this app so much to document vitamin d intake from the sun. I am unable to get it through typical oral supplements. Comparing the IU’s I was getting for 25 minutes, same time of day, same clear skies, same bikini, got me 6k IU here in Houston just a few weeks ago, before I started getting the black screen. The UV is even higher now. I got 3,000 IU today and started to burn. It’s not just not accurate anymore.
Also, I had to manually enter the session again today because it still will not let me start a session from the drop down menu. This is so incredibly frustrating. The old app would alert you when you needed to turn over to avoid burning. It would also alert when you’ve met your max time outside, also to avoid burning. None of these important alerts are available when you have to manually enter.
Also, I keep deleting and updating the app every morning, hoping it will work correctly.

2026-04-11

Vitamin D IU?

So I’m still trying to use the app, but it lowers the IU rate regardless of UV, even if it’s higher UV the IU lowers drastically to like 10. Maybe a new introduction video to the app would be good because it does not make any sense. Also it says Vitamin D saturation is high and wants to cancel my session automatically after just like 20 minutes, but then when I click the turn around button, it resets the saturation which also does not make any sense. Like said, maybe a new video would be useful, but now it really doesn’t feel reliable… anyway thought I’d add some help with use, but I might have to look into another app. This was a good one, but not sure about it.

Used to love this app, but…

I used to love this app, and have used it consistently for several years now. However, recently I’ve run into the black screen issue that is discussed as being “fixed” by the most recent update. I have updated the app three times now and it is in no way fixed. It just sits there with a black screen. I removed it from my home screen and bone I wish I had just deleted it. I am going with another sunlight/Vit. D tracking app which hopefully works as it’s supposed to. It’s a shame cuz I loved the old version when it worked.

Old version so much better

The older version of this was so much simpler. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but it did exactly what I wanted it to do. The new version is so glitchy. I just sat outside with the UV index at nine. It claims I was only getting 68 IUs of D permanent. I’ve used this app a lot. I know that that is inaccurate. I experienced the same thing the other day. I laid out for 30 minutes on one side and 30 minutes on the other, but I forgot to log the first 30. The UV was the same the entire time. The UV that I logged manually showed, I was getting much more D. Than the Son session. I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t like it.

Major App Redesign has some issues, but major ones are fixed… mostly

This is a great app. It just got a major redesign and had some major issues, but the app has been getting fixed on a daily basis the last few days and is MUCH better.
It’s working well enough now to recommend again, and I am confident it will be fully refined and smooth sooner than later.
Definitely the best app possible for calculating your vitamin D intake via sunlight!

No longer a good app

I have been using this app for a few years now. I use it whenever I’m laying out in the sun because it lets me know how long I can lay out safely according to a few variables, without burning. Apparently the new version no longer does this and the version I had stopped working. So, there is now no way to know how long I can be out in the sun without burning. That was a huge draw for me using this app and I’m sure many others. If I could give it zero stars at this point I would. I will be deleting it and downloading a different app. I don’t know why in the world you would change something that was so valuable

D Minder continues to shine

To the developer, thank you for such an amazing app. Your efforts and commitment to making this app as useful and accurate as possible have literally helped me improve my health. As a person with multiple sclerosis, low vitamin D has been proven as one of the contributing factors to have a direct correlation of intensity and severity of the disease. Vitamin D supplements alone were never successful for me. Getting sunshine in a wise way, including ability to track and time intensity of UV, have contributed to what my doctors have called a remarkable and atypical improvement. Your app has helped me get understand how much sun exposure is useful for my daily exposure - and helped me understand how avoid “over doing it”.
Thank you for this remarkable app, and for your contributions to such a great product.
Very Respectfully,

Must Have

This is one of the best health and fitness related apps I have. I use this several times a day, and I cannot recommend it enough. It works great, pricing is more than fair, data collection policy is stellar.
If I had a feature request for the future, it would be cool if you could adjust exposure settings to account for variable surfaces like sand or water or snow. Keep up the great work team, everyone else check out the app!

Useful but clunky

I really need this app for my vitamin D, but find it extremely unpredictable. Despite reminders being set for my phone and watch, it only reminds me of D being available maybe 5% of the time. The watch app suddenly stops my sun session for no reason, and there’s no way to actually stop the session on your watch once you start it. On the phone app, you can’t see the D time forecast for the next day or week. I need the app but I wish it were better.

Seems to have gotten worse

I’m so appreciative of this app. Because it’s the only one like it, it provides a needed service. But it seems to have gotten worse recently when it started running ads. I’m fine dealing with ads for something I get for free. But it has actually compromised the app itself in someways. Sometimes now I find that when I go to clear an ad, I set my phone down only to pick it up and realize that the session has been paused and not tracking the session I’m currently in, so I lose how much sun I’m actually getting. This happens almost every time I use the app now. And all of my 7, 30, and 90 day trackers are all in the -80,000 range or more for some bizarre reason, which really messed up the calculation of my current running total for tracking my D over the summer. It feels hardly useable now. And I don’t know that paying for whatever upgrades are available would actually change these user issues, even without ads.

Finally got my vitamin d levels up!

I am so happy with this app! I rarely write app reviews but I am just so thrilled that this app actually did what it said it would do. I was so skeptical about the accuracy of the IU amount being absorbed by the sun and the estimated amount needed. However, when I started using the app my doctor tested my blood levels of vitamin d at 21 ng/ml. After using this app to track my daily sun for about a month, I was up to 29 according to the app. I just had my blood levels rechecked at the doctor and I am at 32 ng/ml! I am unable to take oral vitamin d supplements so being able to accurately track my sun exposure this way is amazing! I am continuing to work on reaching my goal of 40-50 ng/ml and telling everyone I know about this app! I will also say I paid for the $2 ad free version and it was 100% worth it. That’s a very fair amount to pay for an app that is working so well for me.

Good but could use some simple improvements

When in a sun session, you’re unable to navigate the app. Not all of the tutorials work so I’m still not entirely sure if I’m using the app correctly. When taking a high dose vit d supplement weekly, it’s unclear how to input the information so it is adequately accounted for in your goal. During a sun session, the “stop” button also functions as a “pause” but that is unclear unless you click “stop.” A yellow or orange button should be added for “pause.” Once paused, the red button is “resume” and the green button is “finish,” which is counter intuitive. Red should be for “finish” and “resume” should be yellow or orange. I think there’s more to report on but I’m in the middle of a sun session and can’t navigate the app 😅

D levels going up

This app has been supporting me with prioritizing vitamin d from sunlight and increasing my blood levels of Vitamin D and overall mitochondrial health. Very thankful for creating tools that support us in prioritizing healthy habits. It’s encouraging to know the UV index at different hours in the day & this motivates me go out and get sun on rainy days as well. Regular sunshine has been improving my mood so much. This is currently my favorite app 🙏🏿✨

App suddenly crashing

I’ve been using this for a few months now and I’m happy to have a way to track my vit d intake through sun exposure. I gave it a 4 because I wish there were ways to go back and edit a previously logged time outside and a way to enter a time when I maybe didn’t have my phone on me or forgot to start it (if there is a way and I’m just not utilizing it, please let me know!). I also gave it a 4 star review because the app has started crashing as soon as I open it- this started today. I tried to troubleshoot by restarting my phone and re-uploading the app, but no change.

Essential App for Vitamin D Monitoring and Public Health

D minder is an essential app that has significantly improved my health and work as a public health worker. Living in a tropical climate, maintaining optimal vitamin D levels is crucial, and D minder has been a game-changer in this regard.
With its user-friendly interface and accurate tracking, Dminder ensures I never miss out on sun exposure recommendations tailored to my location, time of year, and skin type. It has become an invaluable tool in monitoring my vitamin D levels and promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Moreover, Dminder has the potential to make a real difference in public health, particularly in Africa. Its comprehensive tracking and informative insights can help address vitamin D deficiency in our region effectively.
As a public health worker in a developing country, accessing the pro version poses challenges due to limited international payment systems. I would greatly appreciate it if the Dminder team could consider providing a free upgrade for individuals like myself, who are dedicated to improving public health outcomes.
In summary, Dminder is a must-have app for vitamin D monitoring. Its user-friendly interface, accurate tracking, and potential to impact public health make it an essential tool. I highly recommend Dminder to anyone seeking to optimize their vitamin D levels and contribute to the well-being of their community.
Note: This review reflects my personal experience and the potential benefits of Dminder for addressing vitamin D deficiency in Africa.

Beneficial app for health

This is my new favorite health protocol, and DMinder helps me so much with receiving just the right amount of sunlight while preventing overexposure and sun burns. I only have one request: the “alarm” or notification at the end of my session does not alert or make a sound; it simply stops the session recording. A final alert would be incredibly helpful. I love the half-way alert; a final would be perfection. Thanks!

Fantastic app! (but recently stopped working)

Great app for tracking Vitamin D intake, whether through supplements or sun exposure. The feature that estimates how much D you get from sun session is super useful. It also predicts your current level and comparing it with actual results from a blood test, it’s reasonably accurate - ballpark.
I’ve recommended the app to many. However, just now I attempted to demo it to a friend and it fails to load. The screen flashes briefly and then the app disappears. I’m on an iPhone 12 mini running iOS 15.6.1. I haven’t opened the app in a couple of months.
To developer: any ideas why it has stopped working? Any other complaints?

Location bug

First, clearly, a lot of work went into developing this app. However, there appears to be a location bug. For example, if I enter a location in Rhode Island, it shows 63 days until the next opportunity as well as the weather for the next several days. However, if I change the location to, let’s say Rio, it’s still shows 63 days for the next opportunity, but does change the weather. If I leave the location on Rheo turn off the app then turn it back on it shows five hours for the next opportunity. If I then switch to Rhode Island, it will show the 63 days but then if I switch back to Rio it still shows the 63 days.

Good idea, but doesn’t work for me

App is not intuitive for how to do certain things. Thought I couldn’t add back entires but you can, the date acts like a scroll field but isn’t. You select it and it opens a calendar to select the day. Some fields end up greyed out making it seem like you can’t select it, but you can.
It’d be nice if you could setup automatic sun exposures. Most days I’m going to spend at least 10minutes outside. If it could automatically add that I’d find this app much more useful. As is it is kinda cool but not very useful.
Edit: discovered that editing past entries doesn’t work well. There are certain fields that can’t be edited which makes it impossible to fix many entry errors. I also don’t like how adding entries assumes you are just lying in the sun. I hardly ever am going to use the “turn over” setting that it has for every new entry.

This is one of the best health apps I’ve ever used.

I’ve been using D Minder for three years. I love how much control and how many options I have to get results. It also teaches how to be sun savvy as I use it. I have never used an in-app purchase because there are so many options available I haven’t needed to. I also have it on my Apple Watch so I control D Minder from my watch. I told my daily about this all and they love it too. There is so much more, alerts for when the sun is at the angle I want, skin type, cloud layer, time of day, duration of, amount of exposure, plus a calculation of vit D from what I eat, how much D3 intake, how long I use a Sperti lamp (so cool that you can add this). Still love it after three years.

Learn how sun exposure actually works and improve your status!

My doctor turned me onto this a few years ago and it is a truly brilliant application of technology to manage sun exposure and improve vitamin D status. It can be really eye opening to learn how sun exposure actually works in reality vs the ignorance and myths surrounding the topic. Can't recommend this enough. I share it with everyone I know.

Doesn’t work very well

The Apple Watch screenshots are bogus. The app is basically unusable from the watch now. It used to vibrate when it was time to turn over and now it doesn’t. The screen has to remain unlocked or you won’t get the notification on the phone to turn over when you’re halfway through your timed session. Everything works as if it’s assuming that you’re going to use the amount of vitamin D to set the length of your session, and who does that really? I think most people are going for a time.
That being said, the notifications used to work much better. It used to be a great app, and now it’s just meh. I really wished the watch worked the way it says. Then I wouldn’t have to take my phone out with me.

Well it used to work…

I originally got this app because my doctor recommended it so I could track my vitamin D levels. After using the app for a few months I realized it had a few shortcomings but I was OK with that because it was convenient and seemed to do a good job of calculating my D absorption levels based on sun exposure, etc. However, I’ve tried to use this app now for the last three weeks and it just doesn’t work anymore. I can’t change my default home location, it keeps defaulting to somewhere in Egypt, I live in the United States. No matter what I change in the settings, it defaults back to some other number or setting. Half of the screens I click into don’t have a back button or a way to get back to the home screen. And even though I click on “start a new sun session”, I can see the data that is entered in the fields by default, but there’s no way to say “OK”, or “Start”, or anything other than exit the app and go back in. I’ve deleted the app, and re-downloaded it at least five or six times now, rebooted my phone etc., but nothing works anymore.

Thank you for the latest update!

I started using dMinder back in late 2020. I’m super grateful to the developers of the app! This might be one of the most useful apps out there, especially with the latest update! I love how now we can see the on-screen supplementation and edit dosages if necessary. Thank you for that. Also, I love that the app is free. For that, I’ll grandly watch ads. Keep up the good work! 🤗

No Need

The description of what data is accessed and claims of it only stored on your devise and no third party access etc all reads well, that is until it obtains the unique device identifier. This is something not needed for scientific research and development. It would have no bearing on anything scientific, nothing. Except … no need, I won’t go there. If it is not read outside or obtained outside the device and it is already in the device, this all reads like sunshine used to blind the reader with “oh we are only doing good”. I just don’t buy it. PRIVACY, PERIOD.

Great Health App

I really love this app for tracking my Vitamin D generation. It's great to know what times of day are best and when I'm getting too much exposure. I use it nearly every day. Vitamin D is so important for Covid prevention and treatment. Everyone should be using this app. I’ve recommended it several times to friends.
November 2021 update: I checked this with my vitamin D levels after a year of use and it was 9 points low. I did not capture all my sun sessions however. If I did I think it would be spot on so I think this result is excellent.

It works but...

I’ve been using it for about six months. Inputting all my outdoor time (other than walking from Parking lots to buildings types of stuff) it estimated my blood level accurately (off by just 1 point as determined by blood levels). Why I increased my blood level by only 5 points in 6 months while getting 7100 IU/day I don’t understand.
What I don’t like is the app ringing and buzzing when I’ve set it to not do so. Plus, it will turn itself off when it says I’ve reached enough D for the day. So I gave to re-start it. I don’t like apps being in charge and dictating to me and needing to be monitored.

not intuitive / and ui is a bit too scientific in design

most people are a little dumb, myself included. why not have hover over info keys in areas to explain all these numbers and degrees?
i live in wisconsin, how is it possible I can get viatmin d over 200 days a year? im confused on 35* in horizon and 31.5* being an estimate (as mentioned in faq)
the annual tab is just so confusing- and doesnt allow adjustments. idk. fixing this app to be more user friendly, streamlined, and intuitive- cant be a major cost. why not just update / improve it?
or is this the best y’all can come up with?

Useful app

I like just about everything about this app. Logging your sun time is very easy and I appreciate the reports. My only issue is the food logging. You can only add a set amount of something. For example you are only allowed to add 3oz of tuna. It would be nice to be able to add any amount similar to the way my fitness pal works. The tuna packets I buy are 2.6oz so my entry isn’t accurate. Also the last update says the upgrade is free but I was charged.

Close to perfect

App works really well, and I can’t add much more than the other good reviews, except for one thing I’ve found. As the sun moves, UV intensity changes, and the app almost adjusts for that. As you go through a sun session, the IU/min does adjust a bit. However, if you finish a session and immediately start a new one (i.e. the sun is practically at the same exact position), the IU/min for the same cloud/skin exposure settings will often be much higher than the session you just finished (if the sun is still climbing), or much lower (if the sun is falling.) This seems to me more true the longer the first session was. In other words, the IU/min doesn’t seem to update correctly during a session. Thanks!

Excellent & helpful

An excellent little app that has made a world of difference for me in understanding my Vitamin D levels and sunlight exposure. Being able to quantify the amount of Vitamin D I’m getting and better understanding the movements of the sun through the sky has made a big material difference in my life. The pro version is well worth it for the ability to track ones levels.
One thing that could be improved upon is a better ability to display and review ones levels over previous days. One can see it in the aggregate, but can’t go back and see totals for individual days. Also, it took me months to figure out what the 21d and 21d-90d numbers meant, and ultimately they could be displayed more descriptively or intuitively.
Great app and very grateful. Thank you!

Great App! One utility improvement.

This app is fantastic. Had no idea how much D i was getting from the sun until I started using this. Also great to track this extra boost to my immune system given the COVID situation. One thing for improvement would be a Pause Button while timing sun exposure. Where i live it’s often partly cloudy with thich clouds. So I’ll get 5 mins of sun and then 5 mins of clouds. Would be nice to be able to pause during clouds and unpause when the sun comes back out.

Vitamin D awareness

I am so thankful I found this App mainly because it made me aware of how importantVitamin D is to us and our health. DMinder helps keep us vigilant and aware of our levels. It does take a bit of discipline but the daily prompt I set in the morning asks if I have taken my supplement is a nice twigger. I also upgraded for only $1.99. A good price for a good App. I am in pursuit to get my levels in the 40-60 range and keep it there for Life. Do your research and use this app to log and record your D intake from sun, food and supplementation. I honestly feel a lot better by increasing my D levels. I recommend this App highly.

Good, but could be better!

This app is extremely helpful in tracking Vitamin D levels. I love using the timer feature when I am out in the sun. It’s nice to be able to set the timer and be alerted when I’ve reached the maximum time for a safe level of sun exposure. It’s also nice that the amount of D received while being exposed to the sun is automatically calculated.
However, it would be nice if the app allowed a weekly dose of Vitamin D to be added, but it only allows daily doses. Therefore, I have to average out my dose to fit the app’s parameters. Other than that, I don’t have any complaints!

Easy to use but need flexibility for D dose

The only drawback is there is only one way to put in a D dose. I take a large amount twice a week per doctor, I have to average the amount over the week but i can’t be flexible and add a larger dose one day if my diet has extra D. The app assumes your oral dose of D and your diet is always the same, it is not for most people. If there was a way to be flexible in adding extra dose once in a while, and allow for a more flexible weekly schedule, then it would be a 5 star app.

No support

I really want to like this app, but the lack of response by the developer to emails and phone calls makes it extremely difficult. Video help files are for an obviously outdated version of the app and offer little assistance. I use the app on IPAD PRO and IPHONE and I am unable sync the devices even though all settings are correct. Sun exposure for a certain period time calculates differently on each device. 15 minutes on iPhone and 15 minutes on Ipad yield different results for same period with same settings. On the iPad, display is only in horizontal mode, it does not change for rotation. I am giving it two stars because I honk the idea and format are good, however the follow through, lack of support and math errors create a don’t as to its accuracy and ability to truly track vitamin D.

Initial impression

My first impression of this app is that it is on the right track. Here are a couple of suggestions, along with a comment on the video and the study.
1. Please consider adding a back button for those of us with quick fingers. Specific example: “Do you know your Vitamin D level?” I accidentally hit the yes button, and could not go back. I was able to close the app & reopen without disruption, but I wasn’t sure that would be the outcome.
2. Sun exposure option: A little more information about considerations for answering this would be helpful, along with a seasonality option. I think Vitamin D can be stored for up to 2 months. That said, I don’t get the same exposure in the winter that I get in the summer. Will this app provide opportunity to adjust exposure later?
Video comment: I’m not sure if there is supposed to be sound on this video, but I didn’t hear any. The slides had a lot of writing, making it necessary to jump back and pause the video to read it. Without sound, much of it seemed up to the viewer’s interpretation. I got the gist, but skipped the last minute. Overall, the video was not useful.
Study comment: Reviewing the option for the 5-year study, I applaud your attempt to get users to pay for their own lab tests, but I am not willing to pay that much for lab tests so that the researchers can publish results and reap the rewards. Perhaps others are.

A useful app that could use some polish.

I like this app and the ability to track my vit D. I live in the Pacific Northwest where supplementation is a must. I paid for the in-app upgrade and having the extra information is helpful but I’m not sure it was worth it. One thing I would like to see is improved background images and the ability to choose my own and I believe adding them as part of the paid upgrade package feature would be reasonable. In fact, I suspect your app would sell more upgrades if the upgrade included some personalized options. The current blue sky with clouds is ugly. It is all stretched out and distorted on my screen. I have the beautiful new iPhone XS Max and let’s face it, people prefer visually appealing apps. If you’re not willing to supply more options then allowing the user to upload their own background image would be appreciated.
Aside from the amateurish unfinished look, this app is great. With improved visual options/look included with the paid upgrade this app would be 5 star.

A lot of problems here

UPDATE: Don’t bother reaching out to the developer. When I made them aware of the issue on Twitter, with a supporting video/screencast of the issues below, they were rude and dismissive. I’m disappointed they couldn’t be bothered to take these issues seriously, and that they’d pass the blame on to me despite video evidence that their app has two serious bugs that disrupt a user’s ability to use it at even a basic level.

First, it’s defaulting my location to Saudi Arabia, though I’m in North Carolina. When I try to add my location, the map feature fails to find an address. Even when I manually enter my specific city, state, and country, it insists I enter the specific latitude and longitude of my location, which is incredibly bizarre. Never has an app asked me to manually enter my latitude and longitude. When I try to cancel the process of adding a new location, the app won’t allow me to return to its home screen. I had to force quit the app and reopen it to do so. I’m not sure how functional this app will be if I can’t even enter my proper location, and it’s suggesting sun times for a country halfway around the world.

Helpful information for getting Vit D from sun exposure

I have fair skin that burns easily, and I live in an area at over a mile high in altitude, so I've tended to avoid the sun. But I also know that getting sun on your skin is the way we produce Vitamin D, and supplementing it might not do the same thing as producing it naturally.
What to do? Enter dminder. Dminder tells you exactly how long to get sun exposure without getting sunburned, based on your skin type and real UV data.
But it also taught me some things, like that there is a best time of day to get sun exposure, at "solar noon" which changes slightly every day. Also depending on the latitude, you can't produce D from the sun every day of the year, so it's important to get the opportunities that you can.
Overall, an excellent app. I bought the premium version even though I didn't need the additional features just to support the developer.

Love this app

Overall I find this app very beneficial. I would like the ability to see/edit each sun session after it is saved. Sometimes the app stops the session before I want to (maybe because of sun burn alert?). Also wish there were more clothing options. I'm often in a tank top and jeans (at the barn) so feel like I'm getting more sun than it says. Alerts saying when you can start getting sun or reminding you to head outdoors would be helpful too.
