Description

Named by Time.com's @Techland as one of the best weather apps for Your iPhone. And now the first app to give you severe weather alerts for your Apple Watch.
Severe weather alerts for your exact location. Storm Shield Weather Radio gives you storm-based alerts for tornado, hurricane, flood, thunderstorm, winter storms and other life-threatening weather events via voice and push notification.
Storm-based or polygon alerts help reduce false alarms by alerting you to severe weather based on your exact location within a county. Many other products still use county-based alerts (meaning you'd get an alert even if your location in the county is not within the threatened area).
What people are saying:
• Storm Shield "can keep you appraised of everything from severe thunderstorms to flash flooding... this kind of information can be a life-saver, as many of its loyal users have already attested." - Time.com
• "Has kept me up to date with all Winter Storm Watch and Warnings this winter. Very helpful for my winter hikes." - Matthew
• "A total life saver. I live in Chicago and we have winter storms... Storm Shield is on my side when my mom has to call the school requesting a snow day!" - Zachary34562
• Storm Shield "alerted our family of the Broken Arrow, OK tornado, faster than the TV and tornado sirens." - Robyn, Broken Arrow, OK resident
• "I was in Oklahoma City during the tornado... we were right in its path. Your app literally was a life saver." - dcalk12
Benefits include:
• Get NOAA alerts via voice and push notification no matter where you are in the United States.
• With Storm Shield's Apple Watch extension get a tap on your wrist any time severe weather alerts are issued for your locations.
• Share severe weather alerts with your family and friends to make sure they stay safe.
• Beautifully sharp radar map as your home screen so you can immediately see what's going on at your current and saved locations.
• Share your radar view with family and friends when severe weather is affecting them.
• See where NOAA watches and warnings are issued by switching map overlays.
• See Hurricane and Tropical Storm forecast tracks.
• Save five additional locations to make sure friends and family at home, work, or out of state stay safe.
• School Closings for Baltimore, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Tulsa and Buffalo.
• View current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts.
• Severe weather forecasts in the app. Know where bad weather will occur before you travel with forecasts by our Storm Shield Meteorologist.
• Watch live video streams when available (usually during local coverage of severe weather in most cities listed below).
Battery tips:
• Storm Shield uses iOS Significant-Change Location and Background Refresh (not GPS) to balance location accuracy and battery life.
• Turn off Background Tracking and instead set one of your five locations to where you are most often.
Storm Shield is made possible by The E.W. Scripps Company, including WCPO Cincinnati, KNXV ABC15 Phoenix, WEWS Newsnet5 Cleveland, WXYZ Detroit, KJRH Tulsa, KMGH ABC7 Denver, KGTV ABC10 San Diego, KERO 23 Bakersfield, WMAR ABC2 Baltimore, WFTS ABCActionNews Tampa, WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm Beach, WRTV RTV6 The IndyChannel Indianapolis, KSHB 41 Action News Kansas City, WKBW Buffalo, WTVF Nashville, KMTV ActionNews Omaha, WSYM Fox47 News Lansing-Jackson, WFTX Fox 4 Ft. What's New in Version 3.8.3

v3.8.3
• Thanks to your feedback from our recent v3.7.1 release, we were able to squash an unforeseen bug that came up for some iOS 7 users, which caused their current conditions and forecast screens to go blank. This release fixes that issue.
Thanks for all your feedback from the last release and keep your feedback coming! We are working hard to make the product better with each update.
v3.7.1
• We've added iOS 9 updates to resolve an intermittent crash that some users experienced when trying to play a video on their iOS 9 device.
• We've also fixed an issue where the hurricane forecast track layer would sometimes not appear along with radar imagery, and improved the scrolling of the Location Detail screen for a smoother experience.
v3.6.4
• We've made enhancements to resolve the slow radar display that some users were experiencing. Thanks for your patience as we worked hard to squash this bug.
• Fixes an issue with some users not receiving push notifications.
• Additional performance enhancements and squashed a few miscellaneous bugs.
v3.5.6
• Storm Shield is now on Apple Watch! Get a tap on your wrist from Storm Shield’s Apple Watch extension when you receive severe weather alerts. Quickly see in glance view how many active alerts exist across all your current and saved locations in Storm Shield.
• We've expanded the daily forecast up to 7 days, thanks for your feedback! We've also adjusted the map's default zoom so you can see more of the weather that's coming toward your location.
• We made it easier to adjust the pin drop when creating a new saved location. Now you just move the map instead of having to awkwardly double-tap and drag the pin.

Accuracy Counts

This is a great app supplying tons of accurate information to people everywhere. This is important because during severe storms, TV & radio stations may not be on the air. But Storm Alert is there supplying weather conditions that are potentially life-savings. You can also see what's going on with friends & family in other areas. This is great because they may not be able to communicate during power outages. Nice, easy to use & concise app. Keep up the good job!

peace of mind

Being 80, a widow with my 2 doggies, always have iPad within reach as it shows weather alerts of all types on the screen automatically. This app is so handy and need to have it for safety sake as heavy rain takes my satellite tv off of the air all of the time leaving me unable to access severe weather advice on local channels. Thanks much...

Update?

It's ok, however definitely does not have the frills like other weather apps. Needs some UPDATES: A) Improve on weather description/information very vague. B) When an alert goes off say which city has the warning, ex. A freeze warning has been issued for Bend, Oregon, not just a freeze warning has been issued (needs major improvement). C) Be able to change screen colors (standard, black, hybrid). I use this app but it is not my go to app, honestly there are plenty of free apps that do the same thing and are more eye appealing, this app could be free.!!!

What warning?!

I specifically bought this app to be warned about bad weather. The warning noise is just 3 low toned beeps. THIS WILL NOT WAKE A SLEEPING BABY! So how is it supposed to wake up me and alert me that my location is under a severe weather warning?! Sooo disappointed!! At least update the app so the user can choose a warning tone for themselves, something that would actually wake someone up!

Fantastic app

I'm a supervisor in a library. And I received 2 tornado warnings of two different tornadoes coming from opposite directions last year during Hurricane Matthew well before I received a notice from our County Administrator. So thankful! I was able to move everyone into the interior of the building and call our other branches to warn them. I also have it set for the area my grad student daughter lives because when she is in study mode, she's oblivious. She didn't feel the need to get this app herself until her area was hit by Hurricane Matthew. She quickly changed her tune. Also had my elderly parents get this app. It's fantastic!

Good Weather App

Since living in the Midwest, it's important to stay up on the weather. This app is a great tool for that. Although it's only as good as forecasters, it's usually reliable. AN UPGRADE IS OVERDUE

5/11/17 -
The alert volume is too low. For that reason, there are other apps that have better alert features.
5/6/17 -
The last update was in 2015. It is now 2017. I deducted 1 star. The lowest my rating will be is a 3 or 2 based when it gets a good update and continues to work properly. The alert volume is too low.

Amazing App!!!

This app mainly focuses on severe weather and the main feature is their wonderful radar, but I love it. There's also the normal weather like the temperature, rain chance, and humidity all in detail which is also great. I've looked for many weather apps with good radars and none of them sufficed, but Storm Shield was the first greatest one. I also tried Dark Sky, but didn't like it and deleted it the day after. There isn't any 3D Touch on this app at all, nor is there a widget, but I'm sure that will come in the near future. If you're looking at buying this app and aren't sure whether you should, buy it!

Works for me

This app sends weather alerts according to my location & locations I've previously indicated. I've had it loaded for about 3 months while I traveled through a four state area. It has sent several alerts to my phone about conditions at home as well as those that affected my location at the time. It seems to do exactly what I expected from the description. No complaints as yet.

Great app but room for improvements

I love this app it is one of the top weather apps that I depend on I but one thing I would add is the ability to add the weather shield app to the widgets bar and I would try to figure out how to make this app battery conservative because right now this app is a huge battery hog but other than that you got my 5 stars ✨ so keep the updates coming and keep up the great work developers

Gives Peace of Mind

I live an hour from the Pacific Coast, and the weather is very changeable here in the valley. I like that this app can give me such a detailed forecast for 3 days. I also have a house at the beach where the weather is more volatile. I'm able to have peace of mind about what's happening at the beach when I'm not able to be there, with just a glance. This app can pinpoint the location you want to track and present a very detailed account of the weather there, hour by hour.

Had App 1 Day Love It

I saw this advertised every morning on my local news station. I had other weather apps on my phone and they were awful. With the impending storm coming I figured I would try this app. I love it! The customization is great. I love that it talks to me when new alerts occur. The radar is great. I can set alerts for five locations. I travel a lot to same cities so that is great or I can set alerts for family. Well worth it for all types of weather conditions you may find yourself facing!

This app saved my life

One horrible night in Colorado my wife and I had just laid down to go to sleep. Then the alert on this phone alerted us that a tornado and horrible storm was forming directly above us. The storm came on so fast. The news prior said the storm was supposed to start farther east from us. When I started to hear the alarm outside I went to turn my tv on to find out what was going on. However, having dish tv I could not get a signal through the storm above us. I then went out side and saw the most God fearing night sky I have ever seen in my life. It was so bright out from all of the lightning strikes I could see the tornado start to form. My phone is blowing up at this point from alerts from this app telling us to get to a basement and find shelter. Then the ice/hail and rain started to fall at an incredible rate. We lived on the first floor in an apartment. I was looking out into the hallway out the front door and the water looked like a massive water fall/river coming down the steps. Within a minute from the time it started to hail and rain it the water flooded the apartment coming in under our front door. The storm drains where clogged from ice/hail and other debris. Without this app I would have never known what was going on. It has also served its purpose in a number of other occasions like durning hurricane Sandy when my wife and I just moved to Pennsylvania.

Helped Saved my families' lives 2 days ago

During Louisiana's historical flooding this weekend, I kept getting notification after notification of "flash flood warning." Now, in Louisiana these warnings happen bi-weekly, but they typically expire quickly. I was seeing how it wasn't stopping. Continuing to believe it wasn't going to happen, I stayed home. When I saw an aerial flood warning I got a very bad feeling, never saw that before, and became hyper alert. I started preparing, while my family slept. It gave me time to find & eventually put a life jacket on my baby. Gave me time to save my families' sentimental belongings in zip lock bags, put my dogs in a bag, & gave me time to tread through water and make it to high land where my mother rescued us, right before hell broke loose. Without it, best case scenario, is we would have ended up being rescued by the coast guard and sent to shelter after shelter. Worth $5.

Best weather & alerts!

I have several weather apps on my iPad and phone. I also had a weather alert radio. None of the other apps had the warning alerts that this app has. The weather alert radio had alerts, but the warnings were unreliable, and when they did work, the frightened everyone in our home, and especially at night. This app serves the same purpose and has the needed affect to alert me day or night. It has the added advantage of notifying me of dangerous weather when I am not at home. I would recommend this app for everyone

Useful & important!👍🏼

I've been using this app for almost 3 yrs now. I choose to use this app over the factory loaded/Apple weather app. Because this app has never failed to warn us of changing or dangerous weather coming to our location.(The notifications are useful.) Here in CO weather can change drastically in 20 min. It has been most important in regards to our recent snow storms, flooding in 2013 and forest fires as well. Well Worth the fee for sure.😊

A very handy app.

I wish they had left the format alone but, this is well worth having . I use mine quite often to check storms and temps . The alerts are nice also . It's also nice to be able to check weather in other places , if you have family in different towns or different States . You can even set alerts for their location . Just an all around useful app. I recommend it .

Exact every time

I have used this app for years, always spot on. Last night, SE got some extreme weather for February. Tornado warnings are rare; in Feb unheard of. I have a kid on a ventilator & was thinking of heading to my in laws because they have a basement. Got an alert to seek shelter immediately we did 10 min later all hell broke lose; pressure was so strong my exterior doors were sucking in and out. Sustained minor damage to my house & blew out my shed doors. If I didn't get the alert I would have been outside with my kids.

I'm really liking this weather app btr then all the other junk ones out there. I have a daughter that lives in Georgia & it scares me not knowing if she's going to get hit by a bad storm. This app tell me as soon as somethings headed her way. I'll knw before she will. Lol. I really like the talking alert. Plz only improve the app! Don't RUIN it! I've gone through every major weather app so far. I'd like to stay with an app that is reliable. 😊

WARNING - This app is now a ruse and security risk

A recent update of this app lost all my settings and was no longer getting storm warnings. Upon perusing its settings I found a link for Support, which took me to screen which included a link “How Alerts Work.” I tapped that link, which had an error message and a link for reporting the error. After tapping that link, I was given a form asking to set up an account, asking for my email and to provide a password. After doing so, I discovered I’d just set up an account at Tophatter, an online auction site, which immediately started sending me spam.
Apple needs to immediately remove this app from the store. It’s a ruse.

Best alert app

I have tried several weather apps. Storm Shield is the best when it comes to notifying me of impending severe weather. The current coating tracking function is great for travel; weather at our destination, or even on the route, is monitored and I am alerted as needed, even if the lock screen is off. The app also provides hourly and daily weather forecasts. It has even replaced my weather radio on my nightstand for severe weather alerting.

Live saving!!!

Storm Shield saved my life more then 10 times. It got me aware of the floods during the 2013 endless rains where I might have passed out alone on my bike in flooded locations if StormShield had not notified me to seek shelter while I was out on my bicycle un prepared for my allergies of the weather. The clouds came in three hours after it's notification about the rains and gave me a chance to get home before the flat light of the clouds made me have a seizure.

Best Alert App! 120%

I am a certified storm spotter and storm chaser and I highly recommend this app to everyone, from the average person to weather experts. Once you set this app up on your phone or tablet you will never be caught off guard by any weather. This app will alert you while your device is in sleep mode (screen is off). Also use your location tracking to alert you while traveling. This app will alert you before the news channels because you will receive the latest watches and warnings as soon as the National Weather Service issues them! Highly Recommended I can't say it enough, some people don't pay attention to weather. Continue your daily routines and let Storm Shield monitor the weather for you, this app might save your life one day!

A couple days ago, a severe storm that uprooted trees and blew off roofs passed within 1/4 mile from my house but this app never gave any warning. Luckily, my NOAA weather app gave me a warning so I could take shelter. Even the radar portion of this app is extremely slow in showing radar images in comparison to other apps. There are some features that are nice but overall not worth the $3.27 that it costs. Now crashes when I try getting hourly forecast so I am deleting it off my iPad and iPhone. I wasted my money but don't waste yours!

Works great!

I live in Florida, where we get severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and the occasional hurricane. The alerts I get are specific to exactly where I am, so I don't get useless alerts about sever weather a few miles away.
Plus, I added a location for where my sister lives in St. Louis and just yesterday got an alert about a tornado watch in her neighborhood. This pinpoint info is really valuable and I bought a gift copy for her since they get so many tornadoes.
I also like that when my local TV station is broadcasting about severe weather, I can watch it right in the app.

Helpful....

It shows where the storm is and how severe it is where -but It does NOT show you a prediction of its route. You don't always know where it is going.. It shows you where it was before so you can get a general idea of where it going- but is not the best weather radar. It is probably 50 cents more expensive then what it give. It also gives and hourly daily forecast.... Including chance of rain and wind speed. I am not positive I trust the accuracy of this but it seems to be relatively accurate... Even that it is okay to plan your life around if your life does not depend on it.

Tornado Alley

Frequent tornadoes in the area. Purchased three weather alert apps and Storm Shield was the only one that alerted me as local sirens were going off. 10 minutes later and still have not heard from the other two apps. Very happy so far.

Copy your review so you can paste it again if needed as when writing one here you have to create a nickname and after writing the review if that nickname is already taken everything is deleted and you have to start over again.

Works great

Always warns me with what I need to know to stay safe. I love that I can choose which alerts to get and which to ignore. I love that it alerts me even when my phone is on silent mode. I didn't like how fast it drained my power when I had locations turned on so I disabled that. The newer version has background tracking which is better. Still, I love how I can set locations and just get alerts that way instead of tracking my whereabouts. Great app. Totally worth it.

Sometimes helpful warnings

Used to be reasonably convinced about this app until it missed a Tornado warning that was broadcasted everywhere else in the local news.
With polygons, this app has the right technology to prevent false alarms. If severe weather happens far away in the same county, polygonal information is sort of the only thing to prevent false alarms. How well it works depends on how good their data is.
App is nice. It’s a bit limited in some ways though. No Celsius? Easier current overview? Tons and tons of badly typeset NOAA text to sift through for info? Fortunately, his app also has the more useful map overview. Could be more informative with graphical forecast of weather in your polygon.

Overpriced Piece of Junk

I own just about every weather App out their. Most do a good job with notifications of warnings, watches, lightning, rain, etc. this one never warns me of anything. It cost more than the others, has a nicer icon, but never warns me of anything. So if you want a pretty icon, to spend allot of money and never get notified, then this is your app, if you want to know what is happening with the weather then please don't get this app, try another like Storm, MyCast, Weather Radio(WDT), Hazard Notifier, Dark Sky. I got that List from my drop down IPad notification screen. Not once did storm Shield show up, throughout all the weather I have been through.

Useless!!

This app just doesn't work as well as other weather apps, including free ones. For example, a major storm just went through the area and I received an alert warning me of it 15 minutes AFTER it went through, not what you want. My son received a warning before the storm hit using a free app.
Not being notified has happened multiple times and I even contacted support about it and they confirmed my location and settings, yet it still doesn't work as advertised. Not sure if it's an update issue as others have mentioned but it simply doesn't work.
If you really want to be alerted to severe weather, save your money and look elsewhere.

Updated to Dissappointment

I was a big fan of this application when it launched as the interface was easy to use, extremely informative, and a valuable asset during severe weather. I was actually awoken one night by a tornado warning alert that I would have not otherwise received if it wasn't for Storm Shield. I was able to notify family members who were also in the path of the tornado warning.
However the recent update has made the interface much more complicated and difficult to circumvent a full-screen live radar and get to important detailed information when an alert goes off. The navigation icons do not provide a self evident understanding which is critical in times of severe weather. I beseech developers to reconsider the interface and go to something that provides a more intuitive experience.

Love the Easy Radar Access

Two weeks ago when the tornado struck northern Illinois I was able to see there was serious bad weather coming. I was able to warn my son who teaches in that area and he was able to get out of harm's way before the tornado hit the area. On other weather apps you have to take 2 or 3 steps to get to the radar, but with Storm Shield it is right there at your finger tip! There are a couple of things I liked better on the previous version but I am getting use to this one.

Almost...

This is my "go to" weather app. I like everything about it. You can read about its features. It works and does its job well. I have several locations saved to keep tabs on my family. It is worth paying for.
However, I get annoyed that the alerts work for all locations. It's all or nothing. I want to hear a warning noise from my phone if there is a tornado in my neighborhood. But no noise if the tornado is 1,500 miles away at my daughter's.
I hope the developers can make the alerts customizable for each location!

Not Quite 5 Stars Yet

Certainly The best weather app I've tried so far and I've tried a lot of them. However the radar storm data loads slowly, and sometimes not at all. The animated weather data is not reliable, and rarely works. Also the map zooms automatically, which is annoying. When just showing map view there is so many "green" areas which are confusing the weather radar data. Net, good but could be better. Oh, and would be nice to show the current location with a blue dot.

Annoying

I can't believe how annoying this app became after the major update. The new design is clunky and not very user friendly to the point I only use it for the 7-day forecast and what the current temperature is. Don't get me wrong it's excellent for receiving weather alerts but other than that it's pretty useless. The most annoying issues are:
First, ever time the app opens it zeros in on my location (on the radar map). When before it stayed at the level of zoom I left the radar my previous visit. Personally, I think it makes more sense to have it set to see what's coming rather than what's right outside my window. If I wanted to know what's happening right outside I could just look... outside.
Secondly, the radar will rarely load anymore, I usually give up and find my information elsewhere.
Lastly, this is more of an aesthetic thing, the color of the temperature is the same as the little weather (sun, moon, cloud, etcetera) icon. Normally it's not really a problem but when it's sunny and cold at a glance it looks like a negative sign next to the number. I shouldn't have to scrutinize what I'm looking at.

Update is an outdate

I used to love this app and it was my go to app for weather. The update has almost ruined the app. It's still great for alerts about warnings but the update has made it difficult to use for anything else. The most annoying is watching the video feed for the forecast. It's in landscape mode; yet it won't reorient when you rotate your phone. Double tapping the picture enlarges to full screen but since it's stuck as a landscape screen in portrait orientation, that's useless. (And before you ask, no my phone's rotation isn't locked.)
Additionally, radar is very slow to load whereas prior to update, was quick.
Finding anything other than radar is clunky and not user friendly. Simply trying to find the local forecast is difficult. I find myself just using the native Apple app.
I really wish they'd roll back the changes.
Adding this to my review: I don't know what's happened to the radar. For the last several days, radar is not loading accurate. I wish I could display screen shots of this app's radar beside actual radar. You'd see how this app's radar makes it seem like my state is clear when in actuality, we're covered in ice.

New Look

I've had this on my phone for several years now and have used it extensively and loved it! I really hate the new design now. I loved having my week's weather forecast as my home screen. The only time I looked at radar was if my screen forecasted that something was happening.
Now you switched something I used rarely to my home screen, and my most used feature to a minimal feature. Ugh, I just had to download a different app from someone else to now take your place for this. It would have been better if you had placed a radar button on the home screen for easy access instead.

New to the iPad version

I've had this app on my iPhone for about 1 year and been happy with it. Just downloaded it onto my new iPad Air and so far I like it. Seems that the phone version is slightly more comprehensive but I'm fine with that. Last night it gave an audible alert the national weather service just issued a winter storm watch for our area.
That's one of the man reasons I like the app as last year on a summer we got a tornado warning alert just after midnight that jarred me out of my sleep with it announcing, "take cover". If you ask me, that's what a weather radio app is all about.

Was great, now not so great

I loooved this app before the latest remodel. I used it frequently for radar, weather by the hour, live news, etc. The layout was great as it was. I really wanted to like the new layout, but there are so many fatal issues with it. The new layout with radar as the home screen is extremely laggy. The radar attempting to zoom way in, plus it trying to load freezes the app when loading/changing cities. This is super irritating if you alternate cities frequently and need to access the weather because the app automatically loads up the first city on your list, instead of saving at the city you were last looking at. Also over half the time I open the app to check weather, the place that shows the city name and temp says "download failed," and I can't access any weather for those cities. I was excited to see the new update, but now I am really really sad that I can't use this app anymore. Before the update, none of this was an issue.

"Improvements" harder to read, disappointed

LOVED the app before the latest update. It's now harder to read the hourly glance of the day or week. Prefer the black background. Prefer being able to see all my locations on one list. I'm still using for now because you have 7news broadcast on there but now I'm using other apps to get the rest. Would prefer you bring back those former functionalities & look. Maybe do some beta or focus groups with customers? Thanks for trying to improve it, but disappointed.

Ok App, with a Flaw though

This could be one of the better weather apps except it has a flaw in its operational theory. It ONLY gives a warning to you if you are in the polygonal area. In other words, it won't alarm when a storm is heading your way or you are driving towards it (or hail, tornado, flood, etc). To be truly safe, people need a warning BEFORE they drive into bad weather. The iMap is decent but is routinely incorrect. The watch and warning areas are off a lot when compared to the NWS. It could use an option for all layers to be viewed at once too.
I use Storm Shield some for iMap but i much prefer NOAA Weather Alerts by Weathersphere because it allows a user-defined radius so it can be used to warn the driver (10, 20, 50 miles away - whatever you want) before you get to the bad weather and it also lists the nearest warnings outside of the user-defined area to help drivers plan ahead and be safer. If I am on the interstate, i want to know about a storm, hail, or flash flood way before i get to it.
I hope Storm Shield gets updated to allow more usable functionality as described above. I will say that the push notifications do come quickly which is very important.

Can save your life from weather everywhere!

It only takes a minute or so to set it up, and you're good to go. I can get the forecast for home, and it gives me the forecast for my current location when I'm traveling. It's not just for the forecast, though. It's primary function is to alert you of any watches or warnings when bad weather hits. I only get alerts when I'm in the warning area, so I'm not getting bombarded with phone alerts. Highly recommend to all my friends and family.

So much more than just a weather app

I live in Southern California where you rarely see dark clouds or lightning, but this app goes way beyond precipitation forecasts & warnings. My favorite alerts - high surf, red flag warnings, coastal & marine conditions, small boat advisories. Also able to stay on top of other weather conditions in Ohio, where I have family, Texas, where I have friends, and Pennsylvania where I have a mix of both. Customization is top notch and it doesn't drain my iPhone's battery as I feared it might. Kudos to the developers!

You will hear this beep in your sleep

Storm Shield is by far the best weather app. You can set up and customize alerts for weather situations, you can save various locations to monitor, and you can check weather day-to-day. I’ve found it to be accurate. I like the distinct sound of the app going off with an alert as well- though if you don’t like it you have the option of turning off the “beep.” It also updates your location automatically- even if you’re from Texas, if you’re in Georgia on a trip it will give you weather alerts based on your location. No complaints here.

My favorite weather app!

I tried many different weather apps — I wanted to be able to see real-time, detailed info, not just general forecasts. I love the hi-res radar and colored warnings — very easy to see what’s here and what’s headed my way because I can zoom in (and out) on my location (which the app enables you to pin!) instead of relying on general warnings from tv/radio.
One of my favorite features is to run the radar in motion; it really gives you a good idea of where weather is headed. The tornado warnings are great — easy to see if your particular location is within a tornado warning.

No Notifications

I was excited to get this app based on the good reviews. Unfortunately, I was unable to receive any notifications for alerts. I contacted customer support. They were prompt, and courteous in all correspondence. But, they could not fix the problem. They confirmed that I had all settings set correctly, and should have been getting notifications, but I was not getting them. They basically gave up because they did not know what else to do. Their knowledge was limited, and they could do nothing but check to see if a test alert sent a notification - which it did. But, as they admitted, the test alert has nothing to do with the real alerts. I was less than impressed with the customer service process. Without going into too much detail, they ended up wasting a lot of my time trying to get their test alert function to work on their end. Also, be aware... you need to have the native mail app activated to correspond with them. I didn't, because I prefer to use a separate app for privacy (my ipad is shared), so I had to set up an account on my ipad just for this. This seemed ridiculous to me. I wish this app would have worked for me, but it didn't. It might work fine for you, though.

I paid & it's okay but......

It would be great if the alert tone was louder and or you could select your own from a list. I would also like the option to select the number of times the alert repeats. Once just is not enough in an emergency or if you went to the bathroom or downstairs for a minute and missed it! The other thing I noticed, if you did miss the alert, read it quick before you unlock your phone because it quickly disappears once you do that.
Other than that, great app!!!
Hope to see more features soon.

One the most comprehensive weather apps

Looked at many weather apps when considering storm shield. Other reviewers praised it and now i can see why. This app is very detailed. Pick up to 5 different locations of your choice and they will be monitored 24/7. When an alert is issued for your area (selectable), push alerts with speech keep you up to date (though if its an active weather day, this can get annoying). Radar is excellent and custom zoomable. Lots of stats / b. pressure, humidity, wind, dew point...
Support is the best I've ever experienced. Had Q's and the were answered in an hour!!

Precise alerts avoid useless notifications

Too many other weather apps alert you if you're anywhere in the county where the severe weather is occurring. Storm Shield uses your location and "warning polygons" issued by the weather service to determine if you're in the area affected by the warning. If you are, you get the alert, if not, you don't! A much better solution. Recommended.

Boating **SAVIOR**

Recently I was on a boating trip to Norris Lake, TN. We were anchored out in the middle of the lake, not a cloud in the sky... I had my iPhone plugged into the speaker system on the boat and myself and 13 other buddies were swimming around in the middle without a care in the world.....all of a sudden, BEEP BEEP BEEP went over the loud speakers and everyone was like, what the hell was that??? I was quick to reply to everyone, "guys....we better get to packing our stuff and getting shelter, there's a severe thunderstorm in the area" - needless to say, within 10/15 minutes an absolute monsoon hit us. Because of this app all of our stuff was saved from getting soaked and nobody was stuck swimming during the storm. I highly recommend this app to anyone and everyone.

Alert sounds are cheesy and annoying

I thought his app had promise, but I stopped using it after only a couple of days because of the alert sounds. I was very surprised and embarrassed when my phone started talking to me out of the blue. I didn't realize each alert tone is a canned recording of a dude reading the name of the current weather alert in my area. I don't want this. I just want a subtle ping to let me know I have a new alert to check out. I couldn't find any options in the app settings to change this behavior, so I just disabled notifications altogether for this app. Too bad.
Hoping maybe a future version will make it useful to me again.

Solid app

There are two options when using this app: select up to five locations you want to monitor, or turn location services on to monitor your location. Either choice (or both, if you wish) will allow you to receive national weather service alerts. I've found this useful - the first alert was a bit startling, as a recorded voice started to read the alert, but I've come to like it. You can pick and choose (to a very fine degree) what alerts you wish to receive. I've used it for several days now and gifted it to a relative in the tornado belt. Definitely worth a try if you want to receive alerts on the go.

Finally an app that REALLY works

This app is great. Local TV didn't tell me anything useful, surprisingly! The alarm on the app went off for my specific location, however, and gave me the heads up on a severe thunderstorm, otherwise I wouldn't have known until it was on top of us. 15 minutes later all hell broke loose. Winds, pea-sized hail...the works. Thanks to the alarm on the app, I had enough time to put things away outside and get the pets indoors. If you are in an area where severe weather can crop up fast, and if you use and iPad (as I do) or iPhone, this is a "must have" app for home safety.

Life saver

My son and I were traveling from California to Missouri and we relied on Storm Shield for weather tracking. While driving from Lebanon to Rolla, Missouri we hit a particularly bad storm. I checked Storm Shield and it showed us where we were on the road and where the storm ended. It was a relief to see we were just two miles from the end of the storm. Granted we had a Verizon Wireless MiFi in the car so GPS and Google maps were spot on.
