Midi Studio is a modular MIDI control surface for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad.
It supports sending CoreMidi messages over a Wi-Fi network using the UDP protocol for sending and receiving MIDI messages.
The application allows to remote control and receive feedback from software and hardware that implement the MIDI protocols such as Apple Logic Pro/Express, Ableton Live, Max for Live, Cubase, Pro Tools, FL Loops and many others.

Over 500MB!
The details say it's only 158MB but when you open manage storage in settings it's at the top at 503MB! I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still 503MB. Not to mention you have to shell out another $15 just to save anything. No. You'll end up paying as much(or more)as MIDI Designer Pro which is MUCH MUCH better.

This product doesn't work.
Beware of this product. On a Mac you have to add the device in your utilities because it won't initially recognize it on your desktop. Mine never showed up so I had to purchase from a competitor. Get your app working cause it could be cool.

Works well
I use this app to setup a wireless midi connection between my iPad and laptop and Cubase. The connections work, all options from keyboard to mixer are easy to dial in an sync up. I actually prefer this app to cubase's ICpro. Wireless midi has some issues that this app won't solve but overall it is my preferred app for syncing with my laptop.

Works great with ableton
I'm running this app on my iPhone 6... It makes me wish I had an iPad! Any bad reviews on this app are seriously user error! I'm running ableton live 9 on a 2010 MacBook Pro, I've got an Akai MPK25 and APC 40, now I wouldn't replace either of those for this app but for 4$ it's an awesome addition! I use mostly use the Xy pads, mixer and drum pads, the Xy pads and mixers are flawless in my opinion and I would give the drum pads an 8 out of 10, I've been able to record beats with them but sometimes it's not always perfect, it's just not 100% reliable. But yeah, This app deserves 5 stars... Low cost meets high versatility.

Excellent Virtual MIDI Controllers
Love this App. I use it on my iPad mini with an IK Multimedia MIDI interface to control synths and drum modules in Logic Pro. Works flawlessly and the modules look great too. Highly recommended.

I'm assuming you can't do anything at all without being hooked up to your computer at all times. Shame on the app creator for choosing to steal peoples money by not making that abundantly clear.

You need this app if....
Your like me and composing,writing,and recording all yourself, the transport controls on a wireless connection allow me to not have to run back and forth from the booth to the daw to press record, or to turn myself up or start a recording over, works well with my daw (Sequoia 12) on windows........get it and also buy the add ons for it,you'll be stoked!!!!!!!!

Customer Support poor
Works well but I only use the keyboard.
Customer support did not help one bit so don’t waste your time with them.
Lucky I owned Ableton and my other DAW products started working.
Go check out Touch Daw help files. They cover all the configuration of how to set things up in Cubase, Logic, Protools, Ableton, Reaper, Studio One, Reason, FlStudio, Samplitude and maybe more.

Won't work with Reason
I have this connected to Reason 7 in windows 8. There seems to be a connectivity issue. It's so unstable, and 1 out of 20 times it worked and only for a very short amount of time. The drum pad midi mapping is not good either. It went up two semi-tone every time you transpose instead of just one. Completely waste of money, I may just use image line IL Remote app instead.

I got it to work with PREsonus studio one with native instruments
Plugins the mixer controls is still a little iffy but the transport controls work fine . I think if I play with it more it will be perfect
But for beginners it going ruff setting it up if you don't know midi.

FL Studio users be wary.
Only 2 of the controllers work out of the box and those require an extra in app purchases. For the standard controllers expect to manually configure everything. If there is a better way to configure it, the sparse documentation sure wont tell you. Would be an easy 5 star if everything worked right out of the box. Until then I would give it a pass.

Latency
I was hoping to tap drum beats with this. The latency render it completely infeasible. It makes me wonder what those of you who reviewed favorably are using the program for..
The help offered no advice on the possibility of connecting via USB instead of wifi to help latency. That should be an option for sure.
I was hoping to be able to use the sliders to control mixing in Logic, obviously that doesn't work either. So, after spending $4, I can use this program for literally nothing. Waste of money.

Sounds-or the lack of them
I am posting this because so many have complained because they can't get the sound to work. This is because it is a midi controller not a synth nor a sample engine.

It is not designed to do so, it controls Midi information such as keyboards and Digital Audio Workstations (DAW)
It says this in the description, don't know if it always has or not.
I gave it 3 stars so that it will be placed where people complaining can see, I will post my review of it after I have it completely running with Cakewalk Sonar X2

It's a midi controller
Kinda made me laugh when I read some of the bad reviews saying stuff like "there's no sound, doesn't work". A midi controller is what you use to play from an outside source, like a virtual DAW instrument or a sound module. It doesn't do anything on its own. That be said this works, takes a few tries to get it to work right but it does work. Can never have enough controllers

Its just not useful for me unless....
You need to add a sound engine in the next version if you can, and look into building it so you can take it away from your MIDI Equipment thereby making your ipad or iphone a sound studio. Good job overall though.

Nice controllers
Ive got a Mackie Control Universal, but it uses my midi port, and didnt come with a lexan overlay for my daw of choice (reaper) but midi studio already has a preset especially for reaper. sweet. and it works pretty well. not very indepth documentation, andy sensitivey ive gotten it to crash a couple times already, but for wireless it'll do pretty well.
i like the velocity sensitive drum pads, but being able to assign them out of sequence to whatever notes independently, as well as channels, independent per pad, would be a smidge better. the pix on the itunes page for it showed a malletish looking layout that i've been unable to find.

Solid, but....
What gives? I purchased back when the app was 5.7MB not 158MB and there were no in app purchases. The older layouts look better to me, ( more zen like, rather than rock star). Network wifi midi sessions to my Mac have really high latency. (Other midi apps seem to have lower latency).
I still use the 6 XY pad layout to map external synth parameters and use a separate midi hardware keyboard. But I still refuse to update to this monster sized version.

I feel like I wasted my money on this app. There should be presets for the most popular DAWs out there on every layout. Not just the ones you have to buy with an in app purchase. For example: The 4x4 drum pad is an obvious choice for the Kong drum machine in Reason but there isn't a way to line it up to the 16 drum pads in the kong. Is this a money grab? Will I need the custom layout upgrade to make it work? Very deceptive if that's the case.

If you are looking for a midi controller there are cheaper apps out there that are equal if not better. I believed that the keyboard in this app would have musical scale presets such as the GarageBand app keyboard does but that is not the case.

Update : they've added an editable keyboard layout to the Custom Pack! Just what I wanted. Really is the best controller out there….
What a great update! I've been waiting for ages and this is more than I imagined! All the concerns I reported to the devs have been addressed and the app looks and works Great ( I'm using virtual MIDI to play several synths on an iPad 3 ).
The keyboard/s play very well, and features like scales ( some of them seem a bit suspect, but they are all editable) Aftertouch, velocity , arpegiation, are welcome.
All the new layouts look very professional and the in app purchases look very tempting.
The user manual could do with a bit more detail on how to customize or what exactly the $15 'edit your own layout' purchase permits. But I'll figure it out.
No doubt the best all round MIDI controller .....

Great app! I use it with logic pro and it is awesome. This updated new version is an absolute must if you work with a digital audio workstation. I have used others, midi designer, touchosc, touchdaw, and they are all good products but this is the easiest solution by far and the lowest in latency. Good job to the developer and many thanks!

The Best iOS Midi Solution
I have tried a few of these wifi midi apps and I have found them all to be useless because of latency. I came across this app and I decided to give it a try, and I am glad I did. Besides the app looking better than the other apps like it, it out performs them. It's as if I am using a USB cable. No latency, no double triggering and every touch registers. This was the best $7 I've ever spent on an app.

Great App, Great Cust Service
Beautiful App, very responsive, great customization options, connects wirelessly or with apple camera connection kit...I had a problem connecting it (totally my fault because I am an idiot), I asked them a question and they quickly replied back and offered me great help. It is well worth the price and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a midi controller.

Great little midi controller
Midi studio does the job quite well on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Sometime using lemur is too time consuming and all you need is a straight forward all purpose midi controller. Midi studio is clean and intuitive and does most of the more common controller jobs that need to be done. Great job keep the updates coming.

Itouch fail
I'm sure this is for iPhone/iPad Only!!! They should at lest says it's not for the itouch since you can't use the "camera connection kit" at all >_<
Cons:
1. "WiFi" function only for iPad Only!!! I want this on iPhone too since I'm on my itouch :/
2. "Bluetooth" function? Don't see on iPhone but maybe it's only iPad only!!! Want on iPhone in it too, since I'm on a itouch :/
3. No function or info for "PC" user??? Again it's only for "Mac" computer only!!! Why u no use on work "pc" •_•

Good but bugs
I actually want to use this app for mixing, it would be nice to record mixes to my iTunes and then have a dual turntable to mix my mixes... That would be sweet. Also, it would be nice if you guys could publish a tutorial on how to use this cause there are a lot of knobs and buttons.

I used this with Abelton Live and it worked. The big knobs had nice action. Easy to set up. All 4 screen modes worked very well
