Description
The Digital Pan Mobile App is the only steelpan app that is officially and exclusively endorsed by the world governing body for the steelpan - Pan Trinbago.
The app allows users to practice and develop their skills for not just one specific pan, but the entire range of the steelpan family. This includes: Tenor High C, Tenor Low C, Double Tenor, Double Seconds, Double Guitar, Triple Cello, Four Cello, Tenor Bass, Six Bass and a Children's steelpan.
The app offers the opportunity to experience the diverse richness of the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago and the only percussive instrument created in the 20th century. In addition to which, it acts as a teaching aid by increasing the capabilities of users which adds to the potential of obtaining different opportunities.
The Digital Pan App features:
• Lock: This icon allows users to freely play the pan while all other icons are locked as to prevent accidentally touching another icon.
• Full Steelpan Range: Access to the entire range of the Steelpan family, including the Tenor High C, Tenor Low C, Double Tenor, Double Seconds, Double Guitar, Triple Cello, Four Cello, Tenor Bass, Six Bass and a Junior Steelpan.
• Piano: In addition to the range of the steelpan family, there is a piano which has the notes accessible to broaden the learning experience.
• High Quality Sound: All Steelpan notes were recorded directly off the GILLPANS Masters Series and digitally mastered.
• Recordings: Users can record and replay pieces that they created. Also, users can select all the previous recordings and play them all at once or one by one.
• Tutorial: There are videos available for users to view which demonstrates the app in use.
• Teaching Aid: The notes on the Steelpan and the piano can be toggled on/off to act as a teaching aid.
• Multitouch: Traditionally, steelpan players use 2 or 4 sticks when playing the various pans. However, the advantage of the app is now you have 10 fingers that can be easily used to play the steelpans.
• Rotation & placement: All pans on the app can be rotated and moved to suit to the users’ preference.
• Colour: The app allows users to change the colour of the junior pan only to the variety of fun colours available.
• Help Screen: Screenshots with explanation a breakdown of all the functions the app possesses.
• Main menu: Layout of / link to history, description of each pan, about DB and availability to share the app via social media.
• Mobile Platform: Supports Windows and Windows Phone 8.1 and 10

Change Fro The worse.
This app used to be perfect, since the "update" something went wrong. The notes on the drums will now mute out before reaching maximum decay. This really stinks. The velocity is now very unstable. This is a true nightmare.

There are pans that are not right. Like the guitar, three cello, double seconds, and the six base. Also the recording thing is horrible. It messes up everything. Also there are more pans that are not on the list.

Great App
This app is really helpful to me for arranging and rehearsing... The sounds are accurate with little lag time and it's great for those moments when I just want to check something about a song key or a passage without lugging all my pans out and setting up. Great job, you guys!

Good, but could be better
The app finally allows the user to lock in the pans' orientation, so you don't have to readjust every time you open it. But the touch response is less than stable. And I miss the description that used to appear with each instrument; they now all appear lumped together on a page that is hard to find.

I absolutely love this app! I have wanted to learn to play the pan for as long as I can remember, however time, schedule and location has never permitted.
This app allowed me to learn/ practice the notes, play and record songs. I am so excited about this and have shared with everyone I know! My cousins, my friends with kids, my musician friends...everyone loves the convenience and detail this app.
Great job on the look, the aesthetics are well done.

Realistic Sounding Pan Tool!
As a musician who played along with steel drummers, I must say that this is a really nice app. It has a very realist sound, and I like the ability to choose the different types of pan. It's also a great tool for anyone interested in learning to play a pan.
Wish that I could some day use a midi keyboard with the app, and Audiobus support would be fantastic. It would worth 10 stars or more. 😃

Brings back memories
I grew up on St Croix in the US Virgin Islands and played steel drums in high school and this app is as close to the real thing as ever. In fact this would be a great practice tool if you had steel drums making it convenient to practice anywhere!!

I tried to go to the double second pans on iPad and its glitching a LOT. Not worth five bucks if I can't even play it. I want my money back unless the problem is fixed.

Just updated the app in hopes thats I could finally play, record and save or share. The buttons were there but never worked for me. I see that functionality was sadly taken away though. Anyway, I'm not getting any sound from any pans. Beautiful design though!

Missing only one thing
Love this app. Many of the players in my band use it to practice their music between full band rehearsals. The only thing it's missing is a Mannette layout for triple guitars/cellos. Is there any way yon can add that? You'd have the only pan app that offers that layout.

Good
This is great for practicing the stickings of tough songs. But, rolling the notes sounds ugly and the inner ring of notes are very difficult to hit since my whole phone is the size of one note on a real life pan. Other than that, I was still able to play chromatic runs, just at a slow tempo because the notes are as big as my finger tip.

Great App
As steel pan apps go, this one is definitely leaps ahead; the pans are actually recorded tone by tone and a wide range of drums is available.
Though, sadly when I try to take a recording it doesn't capture sound, only the notes I played on video.

I like it, but if course it's not a steel drum. If I would say anything, make the drum a bit bigger. For using the drum and hitting two notes at the same time, on high, my fingers are just too big!

Cool, It's Fixed!
I'm giving it an extra star because I really love it and all the great features and sounds.
NOW please fix the latency issues, and I'll give it five stars! The latency isn't truly awful, but bad enough to be annoying and spoil its usability for ensemble and recording work, which is what I want it for. I understand latency issues can be hard to fix.

This app is pretty good. The Low C tenor needs a little adjustment. And some of the six bass notes need improvement too. But overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

A lot of fun
I have a real tenor pan and this sounds just like the real thing! Easy to play, has ability to place the notes in the pan for those who read music and want to tap out a tune. A must if you like to play the steel drum!

Digital steel pan
Excellent app it's makes you feel like you on a real steel pan ready for competition. It also gives you history about the pan. After learning how to play the national anthem of trinidad and tobago was proud to be a Trinidadian.

Fantastic
I love this steel pan. The sound is superb and there are so many different choices of steel pan. I didn't even know there were so many. Looks and sound just like the real thing. You even learn a little history about each type of pan and Pan Trinbago. Love it! It would be nice if it taught you a song like the other steel pan app by David A.... Something. Nonetheless, you should get it cause it is great quality!

Great steelpan app I personally love that you can rotate the pans and position them where ever you want to on screen just like a real band arranger.
And if you want you can get some friends over and really jam out.

Very good app, good for learning about pan, good or entertaining kids. I've just started to use it, I see no pre-record pan songs.. That would be good.
For international users - More improvement on graphics will give it 5 stars. To raise capital they should consider to Charge for a version without the bp and b mobile ads...

A playable musical instrument, very suitable for iPad
For a free music app, this is really great. It sounds good enough and is easy enough to play that you can make real music with it. I installed this just to learn about steel pan but it has unexpectedly become one of my favorite iPad instruments.
Some suggestions:
1) add virtual midi support so that keyboard players can use these excellent steel pan samples.
2) sample each note at three or more different volume levels and use the accelerometer to measure touch force.
If this app had these two things, I would be happy to pay a few dollars to buy it.

This is a free app. Already that's pretty cool. The whole wide range of the steel drum family is available, also pretty awesome. The layout, and interface is attractive...it looks, well, pretty. The app also allows you to put the note names on the striking spaces in case you forget which notes are which. I have only one problem to point out- the notes are inconsistent. You can pretty much pick any drum and play any note, but it won't always be the same note. Example: play a C. Keep hitting that C. You won't always get a C. Sometimes it will shoot up an octave, or it will go down to an A flat or up to E natural or various other notes. And every note is like this, not just that one C space. Getting unexpected random notes defeats the purpose of playing an instrument altogether. Please fix this!

So far, this to me is the best pan app on iTunes... It lets you use every steel pan in the pan yard family, and the pans are tuned very well... Gills pan shop did a very nice job developing this app... Nice job Mazzi :)

Almost...better tune that piano.
Great sound quality, layout and interactivity, but piano keys do not reflect the proper notes of white and black keys - I.e. notes play out of sequence. Fix this and I'll up my rating.

Tap tap nothing
Got this as a free promo for my 4s/latest iOS, unfortunately it doesn't even handle its basic function: drum sounds with finger taps. I tried most of the drum sets and even at slow tap speeds I can only get half of the taps to elicit a drum sound. At first I thought maybe I was just missing the tuned areas but it happens even when I repeatedly tap in a single area. hopefully they'll fix the responsiveness.

Awesome Pan App!
Glad they made it free so that I could try it out. Everything seems to be functioning ok and I have not gotten any of the problems others have been experiencing - guess they fixed them. The notes sound very authentic and I even played a tune for my friends and they could not believe that it was an app and not a real steelpan!

A big joke
I rated this app 1 star, there's no sound sometimes, the double tenor don't have a double tenor tone or sound, every instrument is a joke. If this app is from Trinidad, what a shame when it's the home of the steel pan. I wish I can get my money back, it's robbery, don't buy this app, there's much better pan app. I'm truly disappointed.

Great Steel Pan APP
This steel pan app has great tone, multiple instruments and an optional note layout feature for each instrument. Besides a fun introduction to steel pan instruments, this fun app has some practice opportunities for musicians!
