Retro fun!

I love taking a break to play this game! The tilt controls are challenging but I have big thumbs and really struggle with on-screen controls, so it's actually a nice change. The top of my screen, however, always that there's an update available even though there isn't.

Fun!!

So much fun and I love the retro sound effects and graphics!

It took me a few minutes to get used to the tilt style of playing. A slide option would be nice, although I rather enjoyed not having to tap my way through a game. :)

Not bad

A simple, fun space invaders-esque type of game. The pixel art looks great and the sounds are all good too. Tilt controls don't fit well in this type of game. It'd be so much better if there were some kind of onscreen controller, like Galaxloid, a similar app. It lets you be much more precise in movement.

A great game with plenty of "aargh!! Ok just one more time!" Moments. It took me a bit to get to the end but boy do I feel victorious.

Superb game

It's an amazing game. I have a problem here, why can't the game progress be saved to icloud? The idea is that after playing for a while if I delete, then later when I install it back I can have my game and achievement progress back.

GREAT RETRO GAME!!

The graphics, the story, and gameplay are all fantastic. I just wish it would be possible to have an alternate control scheme with on-screen buttons to move left and right.

The music is great and matches the gameplay quite well. Speaking of gameplay, what a brilliant way to add some spice to the classic Space Invaders mechanic with the egg stealing. 5 stars

Pitch perfect retro fun

Velocispider is one of my favorite iOS games. I keep coming back to it even though it's been on my iPhone forever. It is a perfect homage to the old arcade and console games I grew up with. The soundtrack is fantastic and fits perfectly with the excellent graphics and gameplay. It was definitely hard at first but in the same way the old retro games were - just hard enough to make you give it one more try.

Unequivocal recommendation. Buy it now.

Exciting arcade action!

Before this, I used to groan when I saw a game with tilt controls. But in Velocispider, they're used to perfection and ideally calibrated. Good thing, too, because you need to think fast and move accurately to dodge enemies and rack up as high a score as possible on your way to an extremely satisfying final boss battle.

Tough at first, but fun

I was dying all over at first, but it's satisfying to get better. And you never need to start back at level 1 (though you can re-play earlier levels if you wish).

Love that it has iCade support, but my finger gets tired! Please add an auto-fire toggle button (or setting) along with the regular manual fire button.

Great retro arcade action.

Love it, love the iCade support!

Would be 5 stars, but I don't dig the excess pixelization. I grew up on Atari 2600 and don't need to have blocky graphics to remind me of the days of sucky hardware.

Gameplay itself would get six stars if I could give it.

I bought this game because it was on sale or something. It was cheap and I didn't think anything of it. Well, it has became my go to game! I play it every chance I get. I never really finish games, blame it on my ADD or something, but I got to the last level and could never beat it! Well today's my lucky day because I finished and won the last level! This game is cool!

Truly Fantastic!

This is a fantastic game exploding with style and humor. If you are weary of the tilt controls don't be afraid, this game implements them perfectly and the precision is excellent. The music and graphics are exceptional as well. This game gets very challenging and I would be disappointed if it wasn't. The only thing I could have asked for are more music tracks, even though I don't think the music could ever get old. This is a truly new and fresh old school experience bursting with awesome, give it a go!

Goofy, old school fun.

Plot? Maybe... Graphics? Eeeh, kinda. Old school blow up he aliens kinda fun, most definitely. This game is not one that will have you awake at night figuring out the twist, instead this is 25 cents (or 50 if you had to play at a mall) of shoot the alien till your health runs out, and that's SO just fine.

I too usually hate tilt controls, but here they did a good job! I really like all the art and animation and play, but it just really started to feel repetitive to me after a while (few hours maybe). That's more just me though.

Keeps it simple

Great game for the price. A throwback to 16-bit graphics and chiptunes, with the supple accelerometer controls for the modern age. The inane "story" will remind you of the bizarre mythologies of an earlier age of gaming. Looking back, does Rygar make any sense at all? Did you care? Of course not. Relax, dodge bullets, remember enemy patterns and protect those eggs!

Challenging, but so much fun!

This game can get very hard, but you'll have trouble resisting the urge to try one more time to pass this stage or beat your high score. And the achievements added in the latest version give plenty of goals to shoot for!

Beautiful, whimsical graphics with memorable outlandish characters, and an engaging soundtrack. The controls feel just right, and everything comes together to make this game a winner!

Simple shooter with beautiful 16-bit style

Velocispider plays like a flashed-up early 1980s, non-scrolling shooter, but it's dressed in the style of the 16-bit console era. Visually and thematically, this could easily be a SEGA Genesis game. It's fun--for a while--and if the screenshots get you all nostalgic, then just pay the 99 cents and enjoy the game. It's not deep enough or dynamic enough to be the kind of game I keep coming back to, but it was still a worthwhile purchase.

Great game

Well polished game but a bit too short. Needs more modes like endless random mode or endless boss mode. iCade support is nice but only utilizing only 1 of the 8 buttons to fire and requiring me to slam the button down as fast as I can is bothersome. The springs on the iCade require some effort to push so I feel like I'm wearing out the button. 5 stars when iCade support is refined.

Great take on space invaders. And a good mix of Mega Man 2 graphics and sound. Loved this game. I hope there are more waves and bosses to come.

An awesome retro triple threat!

The game is awesome, but based on what the developers have been saying, not too many people are giving it a chance. That's a real shame, because this is a great game, the controls are smooth on the iPhone, iPad, and yes, even the iCade too.

It's challenging, but not so hard that you're going to want to throw your phone against the wall, and it's a game that you can feel safe handing over to the kids too. Simple, retro, and fun for everyone.

I recently had a party at my place, and couldn't get people off the iCade playing this game. Everyone from the 4 year olds, all the way up to the grandparents loved it, but no one could beat my high score. I've probably purchased 100+ games, but I've only left 2 reviews.

Give this one a chance, it's worth it.

glad I bought this haha

I was juggling with whether or not I wanted to purchase this app, but I did, and it is LOADS of fun!! the spritework and music is really enjoyable, and the gameplay is smooth, easy, and fun. the power ups are also really great! the spreadfire one is my personal favorite. anyways, you should definitely buy this app if you're really tempted. :)

Pure 8-Bit Glory

Velocispider is a love letter to all 8-bit gamers out there, and it reminds me of playing on my old Nintendo. It plays way better than most of the games from back then, and is a ton of fun to show people and easy to get addicted to. Retro fans unite!

Best Game Since Galaga

I'm an old schooler, grew up throwing quarters in Galaga and DK machines. This game is a perfect retro game with very pleasing and reactive controls. It's better on the iPad than the iPhone because of screen size. The only thing that I would do to improve it, is: Gimme more levels now!!! ;) Very addictive, after finishing the game, going back and moving up the leader board is a blast and very frustrating at the same time.

Perfect amount of challenge

This game has easily become my favorite on the iPad. Each wave is unique and it definitely takes a couple tries to beat some of them. Enough to be satisfying yet challenging.

Old Skool Thrilla!

This is the height of Gen-X old school gamer fun! And its a solid designed flashback in homage to 80's gamedom. Tilting the iPad works like a joystick for the movement. As the hoard swarms the skies, you get completely amped, which is perfect for those midday mental slumps. This game is straight addictive, with retro yet amazing updates to yesteryears graphics & beats. Well done, Retro Dreamer!

.... Pixel graphics immediately draw me to a game so I was hesitant at first. But believe me do not hesitate. This game is phenomenal. Dissapointing

This would have been a splendid gem for me...great music, retro style graphics and all that, but I don't like being locked into one control scheme. If it had the option for swipe or touch controls or some kind of d-pad I would be happy, but tilt just irks me so much. Hopefully a future update adds different control schemes.

Awesome Retro Game

Velocispider is wreaking havoc on spellchecking everywhere!

This game is really awesome. The controls are tight and responsive letting you maneuver around in tight spaces but also quickly cross the screen to avoid things. The graphics are great and they are very animated an alive with lots of detail and effects. It starts out pretty easy and gets more difficult but not frustratingly so, definitely well balanced. The power-ups are exciting, I like the rapid fire the best.

Overall excellent game easily worth $1.
