Great App!!

Easy to use. Very generic but can help you keep time when grilling with good suggestions for grilling times. I use butane gas grill that is easy to maintain specific heat so works great for me. It would definitely be harder to try to use on a charcoal or smoker grill. Anyway, as with anything, practice makes the perfect!! Bon appetite!!

Great App, use it a lot!

If tried several others, but this is my go to app for grilling. I use almost every weekend to grill steak, salmon, burgers, bratwurst (brats), and hot dogs.

Flip alert?

I was waiting and waiting but alas no alert to flip my meat.

Needs work.

At present this a timer with some instructions. The times given are pretty close if using an evenly heated grill, and no app would be able to ascertain differently heated areas, that's up to the user.

Some of the things it needs, besides a more intuitive UI...

1. An option for flipping alarms. The default wakes people in neighboring houses.

2. A synchronized start time that allows you to start the item taking the longest to grill and then notifies you when to start the next longest, etc. This would result with everything finishing at the same time without requiring you to devote your full attention to grilling and instead being able to enjoy your beer, wine, and friends.

3. Mini notifications that tell you when to flip things requiring more than one flip. Sausages for example.

4. And flipping an item requiring only one flip isn't exactly half of the total cooking time. Most meat needs a little longer on the first side than time on the other side.

If these things were included, I'd be willing to pay $3.99 to $4.99 a year.

Works fine if it doesn't shut off unexpectedly

Works great after inputing correct information when it stays on. App will shut itself off in the background about 50% if you try and do anything else on your phone/tablet and then its scramble time when the timer doesn't go off and you have to remember how long it has been on.

Superb

I've used this for more than a year and I use it at least twice weekly. The timing recommendations for steak, chicken, pork tenderloin, sausages have been accurate and the food has been well cooked consistently. My grill is a CharBroil Tru-Infrared which hits temps of 500F easily so the meats are so moist, so well carmelized and in the time the app suggests.

Not for pork chops

This may be good for steak but is useless for pork chops and lamb chops. There is no selection for doneness. The instructions call for 5 minutes on a side but timer only is set for 10 minutes

Happy with the outcome

Overall the timer worked well and by blindly following the suggestion, my steaks came out the way my wife and I like them. The UI could use a little work as its not super intuitive and there aren't any instructions. I also wish the timers could be renamed. "Steak" and "steak #2" isn't too meaningful. Is rather be able to rename them "his" and "hers" or whatever.

I grilled a couple of steaks last night. My wife likes hers well done and I'm a medium kind of guy. After warming up the BBQ and seasoning the steaks, I plopped the meat on the grill and turned on the timer. I also turned on the microwave timer just in case...

When I made the flip, the steaks looked like they were on the right track. And when they came off the grill, my steak was medium and my wife's was well done.

Of course hot spots and grill temp needs to be accounted for. But this app takes guesswork out of the timing. Glad I bought it.

REVISED REVIEW -- IT'S PRETTY USEFUL

I never revised an App review before but after giving this one just two stars for just being a fancy version of the already existing timer, I need to correct my error.

I don't think it's perfect. The cooking times are, at best, a good approximation so you really do need to keep an eye and, ideally, use in conjunction with the digital thermometer.

And it creates a very bad misimpression that you can grill things by basically putting them on teh grill, turning halfway through and then removing. Among other issues, grills have hotter and cooler spots so every pro knows you should be flipping and moving most items around regularly during the cooking process.

That said, the timers ARE a pretty good approximation. They cover pretty much everything I've ever thought of grilling and then some. And it really comes in handy when you are grilling several different items on the same grill.

Over the weekend grilled three different fish, sausage, pineapple, asparagus and corn all at once. The multiple timers allowed everything to finish with 60 seconds of each other.

I've come around.

Easy helpful grilling App

Definitely helps me with grilling multiple items especially when entertaining and cooking for a crowd. Plus everyone wants to check it out and get it when I show them. The upgrade is a nice add to one of most used apps. One of my friends got it to use when he competes at big time BBQ competitions.

Plus it is a good looking app --- easy to read & use.

Great app

Grill time is a great little app.It keeps things simple which makes it really easy to use. The only real downside is that it doesn't allow you to keep a custom made timer. I like to cook bison steak and it's not listed as a meat option so each time I cook it I have to create a new timer. While this is a small thing it's kind of annoying considering how good the rest of the app is.

It would be nice if they included some more exotic meats like ostrich, bison etc.

I don't write reviews ever but since I found this was not worthy the $ I just had to. There is no audible signal at end of timer; really nothing more than a digital timer based on size of steak. Still needed thermometer to confirm. 🙃

I'm color blind, so determining when burgers are cooked completely to my wife's taste without a thermometer is sketchy, it's been raw or charcoal because.. I refuse to use a thermometer. Tonight I grilled perfect well done burgers and I couldn't have done it without this app. Fantastic. I can't wait to try it out for other items.

Are you sometimes confused having your best friend or wifey observing your grill tech over your shoulder? Behold! Grilltime. This App will at least guide you in on all wheels. Just do your homework up front...thickness of steak, amount of heat on grill. I just enjoyed a 1" steak, medium rare...picture perfect based on the info from Grilltime.

Just grilled my best steak ever!

Downloaded the app about a week ago and used it a few times without any issues. Plus I grilled my best steak ever. Usually I over-grill my steaks but not today!

On a side note, I did see the reviews about timers disappearing and not working correctly. Since I am sick and tired of buying apps which are full of bugs, I had reached out to the developer prior to buying the app and he assured me the issues mentioned in the past have been taken care of.

Basically an easy to use app which perfectly performs its task.

Master grilled

Takes all the guesswork out of grilling. tends to over cook on each setting, so a good idea is to go one setting lower for less well-done meat. Overall a great app!

... but room for improvement

1. show the name of the veggie in bold, not "veggie #2"

2. allow changing down timer duration - for example my potatoes don't take 60

minutes to cook

3. allow customizing item names, like "Sarah's rib-eye"

4. allow free-form timers - name and duration (and optionally flip frequency)

5. upload what the users customize to improve future versions

6. allow reordering items

7. auto-sort items: put the item requiring the most time at the top (and therefore needing to be started first)

8. more swipe actions - pause, flip, edit, delete

Not reliable, has potential

I've used this app 4 times. Two uses and it worked as advertised. However, the most recent uses resulted in the timers just disappearing half way through the grilling process. Timers shouldn't disappear. Period. Hopefully this is addressed as the app is very easy to use and simple in doing what it's advertised to do. Well, at least half of the time.

A truly useful utilitarian app

Just used this to grill up some ribeyes. In addition to the well thought out timing system, having a brief cooking guide for each food item comes in handy when my brain draws a blank. The watch app is one of the first, third party apps that actually makes sense to have on your wrist. This type of software is the reason we started carrying smartphones in the first place. Great job dev team.

Very simple app with various settings for different types of meats. I like how it's simpler than many other apps - this one doesn't have cooking recipes etc. I just need cooking time recommendations for various cuts of meat and a reliable timer. Works great.

Worth the download. Comes in handy and gives approximate grill times for different foods which seem to be pretty accurate guidelines to get you going.

Disappointing

Lacks many of the tools available on other apps. No ruler, little incremental adjustment to thickness and timer coordinates at grilling start instead of coordinating finish so that all items are finished at the same time. Also, the timer itself is best described as awkward.

Much more than a timer. Temperature and method by food very helpful.

While an interval to say flip a steak is provided, and marches the narrative, but where the narrative for cooking hot dogs suggests turning every two minutes there is no matching alarm.

If you force close the app you will lose the timers you have saved (very annoying to lose your custom labeled timers especially). Also, a couple of alert sound options would be nice.

Awesome App!

Perfect but only one complaint! While cooking a brat it tells me in instructions to flip every five minutes but there is no alarm or reminder. Also almost all of meats are saying to cook at 350 but most of the time med hi is 450 to 500 so I'm confused as to where you get your cooking temps from. Well done none the less.

Finally...

I prefer a cold beverage and good conversation when I grill. Having all my settings programmed in allows me to focus on socializing instead of constantly looking at my watch and opening the grill top, and to me that's priceless. Thanks for a useful app.

Need to be able to time steak type

It's a decent app but it's a missing the ability to choose by steak type. Grilling times for a porterhouse and sirloin are very different. You can choose chicken type, why not steak type??? Please add this feature.

Best grilling app I have found

This app is a huge help when grilling just about anything. I can just throw my meat or vegetables on the grill, enjoy a nice cup of starbucks from a local cafe, and the app alerts me when I need to flip or take it off of the grill. No more looking up this info on the Internet before grilling or forgetting when to take it off and burning my food. Excellent app. WDE

Interesting but...

I write this based on the steaks only. I don't know anyone who grills steaks at 350F. I usually sear my steaks at heats in excess of 600 degrees (on a kamado). It would be nice if you could adjust the grill temperature on this app so it would actually be useful. I also grill meats what are often thicker than 2". This misses the bar in both respects of grill temp as well as timing.
