Amazing app

This app is a crucial part of my rig. I use the midi functionality with a midi interface to my keyboard to change patches when I select a song. The ability to pull charts from Google Drive is great.

Initially frustrating, but worth it...

My wife and I have been using Set List Maker for a long time, and loved it prior to the 4.x updates. It is now overly complicated to use, and what is worse has no option to use a “Classic Performance View Mode" that would fix 99.9% of our current problems with it.
...
Update 6/27/2017:
After taking some time to experiment and learn how the new custom views work, I am now convinced this is a better approach in the long run. I have been using custom layouts for different bands and types of gigs as circumstances dictate, and have been quite pleased. SLM remains my go-to app for full performance control (and notes) - don't go on stage without it!

First class app support

Been using SLM for years to manage charts, lyrics, etc. A must-have app for any musician.
Having fat-fingered a font setting, I contacted Arlo, the developer, and had a fix in less than 24 hours. Impressive!

Essential App!

Set List Maker is an essential app for live performers! It is well organized and easy to use. I use it for live performances with an iPad and pair it with an Airturn pedal. The two together work smoothly. I also like the ability to sync with a back-up device just in case. I wouldn't want to perform without Set List Maker! Kudos to Arlo!

Great!!

When I first got this app, it really made my gig life so much easier and so organized. It has so many great options it feels like it was custom made just for me. Anything you want it to do, it seems like it already does. Then you quickly learn that the creator cares about your concerns and is constantly making the app better, seemingly just for the fun of it, cuz it's quite inexpensive for what it does. This latest update has a fix directly related to something I asked him about AND another update that once again improved my nightly gigs. Awesome, thanks!!
Update... this app is still the centerpiece for all my gigs. I use it all the time, and all the updates are much appreciated. Thanks!

Five Stars! Great App! Great Support!

This app does everything it promises and it's organized smartly. Everything is connected. Everything is easy. It's customizable. You may need to buy one or more in-app purchases, depending on your needs. I use it to call up patches Yamaha MX49 keyboard from my iPad Air 2. I use the iRig MIDI 2 (cables included) to connect the iPad to the keyboard. This will make your life easier onstage. Call up a set list, choose the song and any number of patches are right there at the touch of your finger. You can also call up backing tracks that are on your device, right from the song page. Beautiful!

Wow. Real customer service

I built myself a database with Handbase that does what Set List Maker does. It was time consuming and I can't quite get it to do everything I want it to do. Set List Maker is great I had a issue with my setlist and the developer fixed it immediately. 4 emails back and forth and the problem was solved. It was like he was sitting there beside me. Awesome! There's an update coming soon I'm told so no one else has the (rare) problem.
4 requests:
1. A field for Capo position (I'm using the Other field right now). Should appear on Perform page too.
2. One tap, in-app recording from Perform page, savable (to iTunes) and overwritable (fantastic way to practice your set!)
3. Persistent dimming of song title when double tapped on Perform page so it's easier to follow the list on stage.
4. Artist name on Perform page.

Issue with set list save

Overall, I like this app and the ease of running a show, keeping songs in one place, getting rid of paper set lists/notes, etc. However, with the last couple of updates, I have run into an issue where i have to save a set, close out, reopen the app, and the set I just saved has disappeared! Every time! It's enough to make me mark this app down by 2 stars.

Still undecided? Get it now!

This is a great musicians tool and a 'gotta have it' addition to your gig bag! No more paper, cards, or sticky pads! Not only will bands love it, but the solo act will benefit greatly (as only can be experienced by simply using it)! You'll never go back to your old way of doing whatever you were doing! The bad news is that now you'll probably have to purchase an iPad holder that mounts to a microphone stand, but come 'on... join this crowd and experience what a great set list maker can give you! I do agree that it was good (on a previous version) that it automatically added the document name, but Arlo and his team will probably correct that oversight soon!

Powerful and Flexible: Keeps Getting Better!

There are only a few apps that I use at every gig and have proven to be indespensible. Set List Maker is one of them. My favorite feature is the MIDI support. I just select a song from my song list to view the lyrics, and all of my MIDI devices are set to the proper patches/program changes. And....I can control "next song" or "previous song" to appear by using a couple of small MIDI controller buttons that are within reach while I perform.
This is not a simple app. You have to spend time with it to figure out how to get it to do exactly what you want. With power comes responsibility. So read the manual and dig in!

Best in Class

I've used Set List Maker for years after having tried every (and I mean EVERY) set list management app that was available in the App Store at the time. The available feature set was amazing when I first purchased it, and it's only gotten better as Arlo has added new features over the years.
I have since migrated to Arlo's BandHelper service (which is also amazing because I am much more easily able to share charts, notes, and lyrics between all of my band mates), but I still use Set List Maker for the odd one-off solo gigs that come up from time to time.
Great app, totally worth every penny! Thanks Arlo!

Great job!

What a massive update this is! I can't wait to explore the whole lot, it'll just take a lot of time. But on the downside, it is still missing one feature that would be really useful (to me at least) - creating a song in a Shows menu. When you press Add songs there should be a little + sign to add a new song that will directly go to the show.

Amazing App that Keeps Getting Better!

This app has morphed into a "must have" for my band. All 6 of us use it every week! Arlo has graciously listened to his users and incorporated the most useful and convenient features imaginable. The app allows you to do anything from having a simple, easy to read list of songs, to controlling all your on-stage midi devices (and video)! When I prepare a setlist for our shows (we perform several times per week), I alert the band to download it. I there are any changes, no problem... we can update anytime, even at the gig! The app is set up so you can scroll lyrics (with or without chords), and you can have useful fields visible onscreen that help with program content, count-off hints, time remaining for show, etc. Setlistmaker is even essential for rehearsals. For example, you can attach recordings AND alter their tempo and key so your band can rehearse right along with the song. There is so much customization available it's ridiculous. But it never becomes difficult to manage or understand. Whenever there is a problem (which is rare), Arlo addresses it right away! This app is AMAZING and worth every penny!

Great app, just a few glitches.

This is an awesome app. However, I've experienced a significant problem recently:
If I sync our playlist (the 2nd set in our show, for example) make changes, then sync again, the whole set will delete.
This happened during tonight's show and it was disappointing.
Other than that, great app.
It also would be cool if you could copy one previous show's playlist into a different show.

A Once Perfect App - A Few Issues Now

Revised 5/10/16
I am a long time user of this app, and my band is completely reliant on SLM for our performances. It controls everything, from playing the drum backing track, setting the guitar effects presets and vocal harmonizer presets, displaying and scrolling the lyrics on the other musicians iPads. It did all these things, and much more, flawlessly, up until a little over a year ago, when things started degrading.
We used to be able to link or iPad over Bluetooth, but after one of the updates, that feature no longer worked and we then had to pack a WiFi router along with us, as that is the only way we can now link the iPads for lyrics display. Arlo blamed Apple for the Bluetooth failure, and I believe him, but it shouldn't be listed as a feature if it doesn't work.
When we started using the WiFi, a new and more serious issue arose. Occasionally, on stage, right in the middle of a song, the app will crash! The music stops, and there we stand looking like deer in the headlights. Embarrassing, to say the least. This had been happening occasionally for just about the past six months. After several troubleshooting reports, Arlo told me that he thought he knew what the problem was, but considerable time would be required to find a fix. This was back in January. Still no fix. Still getting occasional performance failures, but very intermittent.
Don't get me wrong. This is an amazing and powerful tool that we have built our entire performances around. This is unfortunate in one aspect. We are so dependant on SLM, that we could not go out and do a gig without it.
I see several reviews here I wouldn't agree with. I don't think it is all that expensive with the add ons. For the features it offers (when working normally), there is no other app that even comes close.

There are better products out there… more expensive but you get what you pay for I guess

The app overall works fairly well, but has displayed some wanky behavior at times. Occasional track skips, navigation can be a bit cryptic at times and the printing functionality could be improved. Support is OK if you follow all of the exact support instructions from the author, but it will automatically send data without your knowing it…. which can be a real problem if you have limited internet access and are on a MB plan.

Great App, Lots of features

I use this app all the time. Lots of great features - adding music, lyrics, practice schedule, notes about the show, BPM, etc. And most impressive is the ability to customize with user defined fields (you can do just about anything). You can also sync with other users, and develop automation if you need to. Managing your song list and and shows is very simple.
I have been in bands for 30 years….1000’s of shows, this is a great tool. Cost is worth every penny.

Set List Maker - great app!

I bought Set List Maker 4.2.8 and its great! It does songs and set lists of course, but the Bluetooth, midi, and video functionality set it apart for me. I also appreciated only paying for the core (impressive) products I need, with the ability to grow into more complex products as needed. It's $12 well spent,

Overpriced at free

I was looking for an app to replace GoodReader for song sheets and set lists. What I wanted most was flexible integration with page turning pedals. This app was in the list of compatible apps with my pedal. Unfortunately the app is pretty abysmal. It's UI is reminiscent of an old MS Access app. It is not intuitive, it requires you to spend an insane amount of time doing manual song input. No Dropbox integration, no wifi integration, only iTunes sync to get data imported. Not acceptable.
Do yourself a favor and only input a few small songs to start (shouldn't take more then a few hours) so that you can test the performance mode. It doesn't always turn pages on swipe commands and my page turning pedal (which works fine sending keyboard commands during song input) does nothing, despite being mapped to commands in the database.
Basically, the app can't do anything useful for its intended purpose and anything else requires an in app purchase, can't imagine doing that... This means for me that I'm still on the lookout for a replacement for GoodReader... Sigh.

Worth every penny!

This app is amazing. I used to have a huge binder of form sheets and would spend hours re-arranging the music before a gig. Now, I've got all my charts in SLM and I can reorder them very easily.
The app integrates with so many other apps. For example, the music director in our band puts some new charts on our Google Drive. It's very easy for me to "Open them in.." SLM. I can also do this from any other app that has the "Open in" functionality.
The developer(s) are fantastic. Their site is very informational, they respond right away to any issues. They have the ability to upload your database and provide feedback right in the app. The iPad version of this app syncs with my other iDevices.
There are so many awesome features in this app. If you are a musician (I'm a drummer), you need this app.

My most used music app

I have used this app for almost two years. It is very powerful. It took me a while to learn everything but...wow, I can't live without it on stage or at rehearsals.
I'm a drummer. I work in several projects with ever changing set lists. I can easily add and change lists on the fly. I attach lyric sheets, lead charts, and notes to every song. I use the scrolling feature like a TelePrompter for songs I sing. It can also be used for sheet music. I use the metronome for starting tempos. I use the recording feature where I occasionally listen to a sample of the song to help remember the intro and feel (I can't remember stuff anymore😎). It's my most used app!!!

Handy App for Working Musicians

I have been using Setlist Maker for a few weeks now and I like it. It's a handy app for creating and maintaining a database of a all your songs. I have just started to explore some of the advanced features. The app is powerful but not always intuitive, hence a 4 star rating. Overall, I would recommend giving it a try. Potentially great, but buggy

Great idea, good features, but not particularly intuitive--you really need to dig into the documentation to make this work well. Also, some edges and buttons aren't particularly responsive. At least one major bug is that editing text colors in the lyrics pane crashes the app consistently. I use this app at every gig, so I'd love to see it continue to develop. There is no other app EVER that I've experienced that has such great tech support than SLM. Arlo's (creator) timely responses to my questions when I'm pinched for time and getting ready for a gig is worth choosing this app over any other. It's ability to custom layouts gives the artist an edge when in front of an audience. I've used the app for about a year now in my vocal gigs and Arlo still continues his same excellent service when I'm in need of an update on how something works OR ready to step it up to the next level and choose to utilize yet another of the many available tools in the app to serve my needs on stage. Arlo is definitely vested in the apps success. His frequent updates help to correct bugs as they arise. And he'll definitely take your feedback and make it work toward your advantage. He makes it happen. Not an "all talk, take your money, then no action" type of guy here!! This review is coming from someone who demands excellent customer service as I expect the same performance from myself as an artist.

Down Hill

This is not a app for a gigging musician in a band! Changes in the software have caused many hours of re-entering songs and trying to reconcile shows with other band members and this is not the first time this has happened.
Wish there was a way to get my money back or revert back to an earlier version that works.
Out of the 9 users I know that use this app, everyone is having trouble. We have 4 ipads synced to the same show and all have different songs missing.
Well, the updates keep coming but its not fixed yet.
The real shame here seams to be that the developer has given current users the shaft to chase a different market.

Inexpensive and powerful

As with most apps, lots of features mean a slow learning curve. It took me awhile to get comfortable with the interface and icons, but once I spent time with it, I am very pleased. I don’t sync with other band members, but I do find the features helpful now that I’ve learned how to use them. I asked the developer for help once, and was shocked at the timely and helpful reply.
The ONLY reason I did not give it 5-stars is the lack of an easy-to-use jump-start document, or a well designed user manual.
It beats shuffling through all your tab documents. What have you got to loose? TRY IT!

This app gets more use from me on my iPad than any other app. I’ve been using it since 2012 and in 2013 I even upgraded from an iPad 1 to an iPad 5 (Air) because I love this app so much.
The developer is very responsive to posts on his forums (feature requests, bugs, etc), which is great And the app sees regular updates (often twice a month). You can also use this app with a plethora of wireless foot pedals to do things like page turning and next/prev song. If you’re a musician, this app is highly recommended.

Incredible!

After getting the hang of it, this app is just amazing! The depth of features for the price is unbelievable! The one-on-one customer support from the developer is the best I have encountered in 30 years of computing! I have NO idea how he does it but I'm glad he does!
P.S. there is a slight learning curve but very reasonable in view if the feature set (which is phenomenal!) perhaps one glaring omission is there is no ability to quickly record a voice memo into the app at a rehearsal. As it stands, adding audio recordings is quite a clunky process that can only be achieved via iTunes. There's no audio memo function or dropbox or soundcloud integration. But this is a great App even if it is a work in progress!!!

Great app with very good support

This app has many great features; almost too many to list in this review. But even for the basic use of displaying a set list made up of music scores or chord charts entered as PDF or Word documents and being able to turn pages hands free (requires a separate switch) or move from song to song with a single swipe on an iOS device, this app is worth it. The best part is that the developer will respond to your questions and in my experience, in a very timely fashion. Highly recommended! I am using it on my iPad.

Very Nice App!

I have been using Set List Maker for several years and am quite impressed with what the app can do for both practice and performance. The ability to bring lyric document files and soundtrack audio files into one app makes it possible for me to give a performance using only an iPad. In addition, the latest version provides a number of great customization features that allow the Show layouts to be tailored to suit your needs. Kudos to Arlo for a very nice app!

Very few apps get 5 stars from me, this is one without hesitation

I've been using this app for a few years now and it is a brilliant, easy way to create, manage and perform with set lists. Performance mode features like instantly seeing the list of songs with key and with one tap to see lyrics, charts, even a visual cue of the tempo are executed so well, which is important in the heat of a performance. They have really committed to excellent design UI.
And check this out: If you have entered the chord info you can transpose the whole dang song with a few taps.
This thing was obviously created by a gigging musician and it is updated and improved consistently, though all the essential elements have been perfect from the start.
I was spurred to write this because I just had a question and the developer answered me 1 hour later. Crazy good customer service.

Love it!

I play over 200 shows a year with a large show band. We do 10 to 13 totally different shows each season - from Broadway to Country. We can't use music stands, and each show runs thru 50+ songs. If I didn't have this app I'd be shuffling stacks of paper on the floor. If you have used it since the beginning, stick with it! The new features are great and this is one of the best supported apps for iPad. It just keeps getting better. The developer responds to every issue I have sent in a timely manner. I love the tech support feedback process. I've tried some of the other chart apps, but this one is king for me and what I do. I also run a few bands, this makes it so easy to create a new show and sent the set lists out to the players. This app is essential to my work. My only wish is for Mac integration so I can use a bigger screen and a real keyboard to plan shows and enter charts, lyrics etc. I hate typing on the iPad, even with a 'tooth' keyboard

Extremely useful

I use Set List Maker primarily as a tool to scroll lyrics for songs I only perform occasionally and to keep track of all the songs I know and what key they're in, capo position, etc. Rarely do I actually make up set lists. But for my purposes, the app works beautifully on my iPad. I can make the text whatever size I want and I can get to individual songs quickly and easily. The features you get with just the basic app make it a great investment. I have found that I can also print out an entire database of songs so the audience can peruse them in order to make requests. Set List Maker is an economical, efficient and productive app.

Review Update 4.x.x

I sympathize with those that got surprised by the 4.0 release…I was one of those. I take full responsibility for allowing auto-updates. I should have known better…especially when software like this is mission critical to gigging musicians. It really proves how powerful it is and the fact that it can take your show to another level which is what anyone considering buying this app needs to understand.
This app is a ferrari….if you are used to a bike, you probably won’t be able to keep up.
The functionality in 4.x.x is nothing short of amazing. The Tech Support is the best I have ever experienced and there is no better App out there for the express purpose of helping you with your show and your band.
With every new release there are growing pains…its software. Those of you who are unhappy should really upgrade and grab a beer and spend some time with this…you won’t be sorry.
I HIGHLY recommend this and as an Engineer and Musician I have utmost respect for the work Arlo has done. A+++ job your execution on this app….simply the best.

What have you done to this app???

Ease of use has gone out the window with the recent updates. Sure, there are more features that I'd love to take advantage of, but did all of the familiar functions have to be retooled to such a degree? To make matters worse, ALL of my annotations were completely wiped, including lyric and chord adjustments, transposition notes, and alternate presets for show-based circumstances. Functions as simple as page turning and document zooming are clumsy, and it takes serious detective work to do something as simple as font size adjustment. Some of the customized layouts in show views are utterly pointless.
Is it possible to 'un-update'? If not then I have to go looking for an alternative app and most likely dedicate hours of time to rebuilding my database. Setlist maker, you are now WAAAAAY out of tune.

Set List Maker 4.0

I've been using this app for about 2 or 3 years. It's really good for organizing music files, keeping band informed etc.
The new update is less user friendly. There is no way that I can figure out how to place full document on screen without scrolling it or setting a timer scroll. Real problem because we have over 200 in our playlist. I reformatted over 300 songs in PDF to fit old version. Also, previous style worked now they've got a dashboard, etc. Not necessary. Great product that has lots of uses, but need to fix full screen thing without scrolling or I ave to find a new program. E-mail function that I previously made an in app purchase is no longer working.

Very Disappointing Update

Sad to see that this app has now become much more complicated to use, not just because of things like multi-function buttons ("Where do I switch to Perform mode? Oh...the same place I go to edit display settings!" What?!), but also because of lost user control and the fact that other standard user interface conventions aren't followed (a pencil icon normally means "edit", not "show notes"). There are also some bugs. For example, some songs have lost their link to recordings in my music library, even though the song’s settings shows the link is there. Relinking to the audio file doesn't fix it. Hopefully, the issues (or a complete redesign!) will be worked out soon and the developers will pay more attention to basic UI design and usability testing in the future. Looks like I may have to find a new set list app.

No, it WAS fabulous - 4.0 is useless

ISet List Maker WAS intuitive, easy to use, very live show friendly. I used it as a guitarist, drummer, and music director. Lots of options and information at your fingertips. Need to annotate? Do so on the fly. In the previous version. No more. In the middle of your show and want to swipe quick to the next song sheet? Forward and back no problem. In the previous version. No more. Maybe you just need to hear the opening lick..no prob, play the song file...IN THE PREVIOUS VERSION....all from a full screen view of your sheet music or chord/lyric chart.
But not in 4.0.
Lots of wasted space, lots of navigating around in order to get to what you need...all from the so called "performance mode". Can't do this during a show. Not and dodge rotting veggies at the same time.
I get the need to get rid of the pop ups during song/show set up...annoying but worth it for the smooth flexibility during performance the previous version used to sport.
Now song /show set up is smooth and performance mode is a dog. What a waste of a years worth of document and song import, show fine tuning, and historical reference only to have the whole thing scrapped by a program designer who I just have to ask myself "do you even use this thing? Do you play music? I'm guessing not.
Now I have to go out and find another program and start all over.
Not happy Bob. Not....happy....!

Time-Saving Organizer!

This is a seriously helpful program and I literally use it every day! When I think of a song I want to play, I Internet-search the chords and lyrics and drop them into my set list. This operation is very fast and it encourages me to add content to my set lists.
I have three distinct musical projects right now and everything I need for each of them is in its own database. Once in a while I copy a song from one database to another.
I use my iPad 1 on stage. The songs are set to scroll in the Perform mode and this is very useful. If required by the audience I can quickly change to an unplanned song. Also, if my iPad were to fail, I have the synced program on an iPod as a back up.
I was covering a song that has an orchestral prelude. I used a synth to replicate the orchestration to an mp3, then placed the mp3 in the set list song. When I Perform the song, the mp3 plays for about 30 seconds then I begin playing guitar as the orchestra fades... Very cool!
If you play solo or in a group and find organizing you songs, lyrics, and shows to be time-consuming and inefficient, this IS your program.
Once you start using Set List Maker you will quickly realize that the programs is much deeper than you first expect.
This is my favorite and most used iPad program! My thanks to the Developer!

Not full App

You would think that after purchasing this app you would get the full app and features. I wanted this app to help organize my song for sets. I already have tons of PDF's and files to upload. This app makes you pay 2.99 after my original 2.99 to attach any documents and additional charges for other features. I may not have minded if it either told me there are additional charges or just charged me from the get go. Not even sure if at this point it's worth it for me to go through all the trouble. I'm currently using tab pro and for .99 I'm able to add any PDFs and quickly view them and select my favorites when I play a set. Maybe I'll try this app again if I have time to manually input all my songs.

1000% productivity increase

This app revolutionized my live pianist/vocalist performances. No longer do I lug around several 3-ring binders of music and fumble through pages falling out as I try to find some song. The automated page turner in Perform mode prevents me from ripping out pages on the fly. I have already scanned in almost 400 songs, many of which I haven't played in decades. I can now instantly access any of these songs should I have any requests.
I've had this iPad & this app for only 7 months and I am already a much better performer. My lyrics (which I've always had trouble memorizing) and chords are all right there. My live repertoire has and is expanding exponentially.
I look forward to using the MIDI functions to sent messages to my digital piano and synth in order to change settings on the fly such as patch, tempo, controller and other messages. That way when I flip to a new song, all instruments and sequences are doing what they are supposed to do.
I am still just scratching the surface of where I'm going. This intuitive interface Arlo has developed is just the miracle I needed to advance my musical endeavors. Thank you.

Amazing!

This app is well thought out. I've used this in performance many times on an ipad and it works great. To have all my lyrics in front of me and easy to move through is great. If you have a song with longer lyrics, you can set it begin slowly scrolling through the lyrics at a set interval of time - very adjustable. Also works with Airturn so you can trigger this by a foot pedal. A great feature I like as a guitarist is that it can send midi to another program. I use Jamup Pro for all my guitar effects. I have it set so that as soon as I select the next song, a preset from Jamup Pro is automatically selected. If I have other presets in the song, I use my 4-pedal airturn pedal to select them. There are too many features to talk about here, but just wanted to mention a few that are indispensable to me.
The developer is very responsive to questions and suggestions, and often comes out with new features.
This is a must-have for any musician.

Amazing helpful and completely thought through.

You can usually measure the success of a product by how well it solves a problem, and this app really nails that goal. It is so rare to find an app where someone really knew what they wanted from the beginning. I have needed an app like this for so long. Not just the lyrics, the scrolling functions, the ability to send emails to clients, etc… but you added MIDI program messages. Amazing. So now I tap on a song, I get all the lyrics I want AND my whole rig switches to the right MIDI set up. I can't say enough good things about this app. Well done in deed.

Great set list tool.

I tried out a few other set list apps before trying this one. This one is more flexible, and more what I imagined a set list app should be. I paid for the upgrade to import playlists from iTunes, which is a big timesaver.
It took me a little while to figure out how the app worked, so give yourself some time for the learning curve. Still, I downloaded the app on a Saturday morning, imported the iTunes playlist that contained the songs my band performs (after aging for the .99 upgrade), took my iPad to band practice that afternoon, and built a three-set set list for our upcoming gig when practice was over.
This app contains lots of great features, and as a gigging musician, I highly recommend it. I'll be upgrading to the email feature later today so I can email the set list I created yesterday to my band.
*** Update ***
This app has become more and more indispensable to my band. The latest feature I am making use of is its ability to send out MIDI Messages when selecting a song in Performance mode. I can now pick a song in the set list, and both of my keyboards automatically switch to the correct preset. This streamlines things tremendously. Don't wait, just buy this app!

An app that continues to improve

I have been giving this app 5 stars since I started using it about two years ago. It was a great app when it started, but it has evolved into something so useable and so fantastic that I wish I could give it 6 stars. It always had a lyric functionality (which I used all the time), but it was fairly limited. One of the latest updates has blown me away with how easy using live lyrics has become. It's awesome for keeping the band on the same page (we sync our set lists together) and its great for keeping my personal set lists separate from the band. The app has become so versatile that anyone who uses set lists will be able to get more than they thought they needed or even expected out of it.

The Solution!

I used to use a spreadsheet to track my bands songs and keep track of my equipment settings, plus I had a stack of flip cards I used for words to songs. Whenever my band changed the setlist (for just about every gig) I had to cut and paste the spreadsheet to manage the setlist, layout my program changes, and resort the word cards. I searched 3 years for a better solution, and with Set List Maker, I finally have it!
The app easily allows me to drag and drop songs around for a given show (and keep track of those shows), keeping the settings and words for each song stored with it. When we perform, a touch of the song on my ipad screen changes the settings on all of my equipment (and now my guitar player's, too) and displays the words. Another tap, and it's off on the next song.
This app is loaded with useful features I never even thought about before, and the very-supportive developer seems to add more every month! Well worth the price, whether you pay for each set of features as in-app purchase, or just buy it all from the start! I love it!

Great app, with some problems

This is a great tool for musicians to share stuff. However, as my bandmates and I have started to depend on it, we notice small bugs that pose big problems for us, especially related to syncing our lists. Most notably, the app has a tendency to overwrite changes that we make. For example, if my buddy adds lyrics and chords to a song, the blank copy on my device will sometimes overwrite his updates. In a couple cases, this has been a big nuisance that threatens our continued use. It needs a smarter file control system.

Midi Bank Storage

I have to be honest; I've never used the app for its intended purpose... but I COULD NOT PLAY MUSIC WITHOUT THIS APP!!! For many years, my rig consisted of a Roland A-37 midi keyboard which controlled two sound modules (Triton-Rack and Roland Fantom XR). The keyboard was very reliable, but died after a decade of service last year. I wanted to replace it, but the world no longer embraces that type of controller. I have an Axiom, but it does not have the same type of patch storage.
Enter SETLIST MAKER: Using an iRig Midi interface and my iPhone with Set List Maker, MidiBridge, and FreEWI loaded, I can set up a "set list" that consists of my "go-to" midi patches. The apps and iPhone accessories cost only a fraction of what it would cost to replace my dead keyboard; I can use my existing old school sound modules with literally ANY keyboard that has midi out... depending on the venue, I may not even have to schlep a keyboard to the gig!
One of these days, I may actually use this Set List Maker as it was intended. In the meantime, I love its midi capabilities. Very reliable & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Incredible Intelligently Designed App

I originally puchased this app for it's basic setlist features but was amazed to find a wealth a features for managing my entire show. I have the app runnng on an iPod Touch at live shows using a Bluetooth footswitch to change songs and open lyrics. Each song change sends MIDI data to initiallize all our gear, including tempos, DMX lighting setups and more. I can broadcast my live setlist to other band members - or they can sync my data and run thier own. And at rehearsals, I have direct access to all our recordings for reference.
You can tell this app is written by someone who understands the needs of working musicians.

Awesome App and Support

This app does it all and then some... the ability to upgrade set lists with band members AUTOMATICALLY AND EFFORTLESSLY makes life grand. Attaching songs to your set list is great for practice. ("How did that intro start?") I take it on my iPad right on the stage and have access to notes, keys, lyrics, charts... whatever I choose to include. Best App on my IPad

If I only had this one app on my IPad it would have made the entire investment in the device worth every cent. I play a complex keyboard setup and am the front/main singer in a very busy cover band. We all sing and we do a great deal of transposing as well. This app has totally simplified my set up and performance which has made both even better! Its also been great for planning sets and getting them to band members easily. After only a short time with set list maker I don't know how I'd live without it! Arlo's support has been great whenever there was any type of issue.

Awesome app, great support

I play keyboards in a rock band, and I tried Set List Maker because of one killer feature: the ability to send MIDI patch changes. Scrambling to configure four different 'boards after each song was stressful, error-prone and killed the pace of the show. Being able to tap a song title and be ready to go redirected the glares away from me and over to the guitar player. :)
After using it for a while, I've fallen in love with other features too. The ability to attach a chart to each song is invaluable in rehearsal as well as for reference live. Editing a song's patch changes, notes, chart, etc. affects the song across all of the set lists, so you only have to do it once (for rehearsals I have a special set list containing all of our songs and I work there, and all the other set lists reflect my changes). Being able to enter the duration of each song and have the app tell me how long each set will take is extremely helpful when planning shows. The list goes on and on - this app clearly was designed by someone who gets musicians.
And lest I forget, email support is unbelievably responsive and helpful. I don't know if I happened to send in a question at just the right time, but the reply took mere minutes and was right on the money. Don't underestimate how important that is.
I would give this app 10 stars if I could. If you're still undecided, I'd encourage you to give it a try; especially if you rely on MIDI.

Awesome support!!

I love this app, great functions, love the large font set lists, metronome, and how you can organize in so many ways. I also love being able to sync multiple devices and have my bandmates sync remotely, very cool. The best thing though, is the customer support. I had a problem syncing at first, so I clicked help, (gives you email support). Arlo, responded to every email I within about a day or less, and he was able to fix the problem. It took quite a bit of back and forth but he worked with me and was incredibly helpful. I didn't expect that, but I'm totally impressed. Love this app!!

Fantastic little app!

I downloaded the app a few weeks ago, and have been toying with it since, and have to say I find it very well thought out and practical. The rest of the band downloaded it, and we have synced up our devices to always have an updated set list. It's a little confusing at first, but once you designate a band member to keep the master list, it's pretty easy to stay in sync.
The developer is very responsive to input (I haven't made any, but reading past reviews, you can see he incorporated suggestions into the next update). Honestly, this is the first app where I thought I'd paid too little. The app itself is a free download, and works outstandingly well for a solo performer. Keep in mind: for free! Only if you want some added functionality do you have to lay down some money, and even that is extremely reasonable. I only needed the syncing functionality, but added the MIDI support in-app purchase as a way to support to developer's efforts.
Bottom line: get it, it's free. Don't like it? Make suggestions, and I'd be surprised if they aren't in the next upgrade. Cheers!

Very Cool App

I have looked at a couple other solutions out there and by far this one is the easiest to use and provides all the functionality (and more) than I could have envisioned for a free app. I did purchase the little add-ins which I find both useful and reasonably priced given lack of alternatives. I also contacted support with feedback and received a response within 10 minutes. Great response and great value!

Great detail-oriented app! A drag when adding songs!

I LOVED this app until I needed to add songs! You need to buy the upgrade that lets you import song titles from a file or playlist, otherwise you need to type your entire setlist one by one. The $0.99 is not the issue, but creating a playlist just to be able to then import it and carry over all song titles is definitely unnecessary work in my opinion. Other apps like GigBook makes that much easier. The way you add shows, etc to the Data base is also a bit of a drag. Again, GigBook makes that so much easier although is much less detail-oriented. I LOVE all the extra features that setlist has... The ability to know the total time for the show is awesome, the label feature, the style, the tempo, etc. Great thinking!!!! AND I also love to be able to LISTEN TO THE TRACK WHILE I'M READING THE LYRICS OR PLAYING THE CHART!!!! One questiong... will you be coming up with a version that would let you upload a lyrics pdf and a Music Chart pdf? Way to go guys! Work on the way you add songs and simplify your platform a bit and I'm your forever! ;)
p.s. Checkout GigBook! They actually did a great job in those aspects.

All bands need this!

This is an amazingly genius app. I find myself scrambling to make a set list each night because I usually am concerned with so many other things on show nights, but with this app I can actually have a drink and socialize in between sets. The color labeling option is perfect to help create a set that has diversity that isn't too abrupt. I use faster songs as red, mellow ones as green, and soulful or bluesy songs as purple, giving me the visualization of a spectrum and using that to have better flow each night. All bands should use this, it's lazy and impersonal to play the same set list every night.
The app comes with plenty of different ways for you to make notes and reminders for instrument changes, tuning changes, capo positions, lyrics, and anything else you need. It's as complex or as simple as you want it to be.
I have rarely written a review for apps nor felt the urge to do so, however this app deserves praise for being such a great idea. Plus when I emailed for suggestions, the creator actually read it...and emailed me back! Download it, and use it!

One of those apps that you wonder how you ever got along without

Obviously, this isn't an app that everyone has a need for. But for those of us who lead bands, it is truly a godsend - the sort of thing that really justifies having an iPad in the first place. In my case, I am an educator directing several different combos and a big band, plus my own personal projects. I use this app to track the pieces we are working on in rehearsal, to help prepare set lists for gigs, and then to act as my set list and metronome (already programmed with the right tempos) at the gig, plus my notes on who solos on what for talking to the audience, and even the charts themselves. I plan to also use this to help me plan the track listing for upcoming CD's, and I'm sure I'll find more uses as well.
The developer is extremely responsive about fixing bugs and adding features. So if you see older reviews from people who have had problems, you can absolutely bet those problems have been fixed - assuming they weren't just user error, which a lot of the reports in older reviews sound like to me.

Great app. .. Honestly I could do this with pen and paper. However. This app is more clever then me ! Loving it and happy with the results. Read on .. Organization !! All personal titles in one place, which are categorized, color coded, covers are a different color, to learn is a different color,… all sorted, calendar-ized, tempos with titles, genres, and most of all.. now - POST production simplified. Done. and GROWING. I have over 100 songs to deal with and this app has cleared room for some of my cobwebs. Thanks. Looking forward to more updates. … the free 'catch'.. have to pay a few bucks to export, and or import from a computer. Justifiable. Free is the info stashed in my little iPo(D)cket. Excellent and useful app!

This App is an excellent tool for any working live performance musician. While creating a database of songs is time consuming, it is time well spent! Use this app to create set lists in minutes once you have all your tunes entered. Sort by genre, tempo, artist, etc. you can also email your sets to band mates right from the app. I suggested minor changes to the creator of the app, and he took my advice. Fantastic!

I'm a piano/keyboard player and I've been using this app for several months now while on a European concert tour with several different choirs working various Gospel festivals. This app has been a lifesaver every night for keeping track of the different set lists for each choir, the different keys each choir might sing the same song in, and even the sheet music files in case I forget a part on a particular song! I can even attach audio files to my songs to preview them. And my absolute favorite feature is Performance Mode.

Horrible! Worthless!

This app is absolutely terrible! At first it was fine(although the interface has always sucked)... Now it will not save anything! I mean nothing. All old set list are still present in database but nothing new will store or save... I can't believe there is no update for this as it has been a long time it has been messed up. Very frustrating as I sat with my guitar player this week and made many different set lists. They were all there until I closed the app... Next time I opened... None of the newly added songs or set list had saved. I have since created many sets. They all look great until you close the app... Once reopened new songs and set list have disappeared.
I hate this app and do not recommend it! I want my money back

Song Lengths!!!

This is a wonderful app, and it has proven itself to be extremely useful for our band. We are very picky about our set list every show and it really helps to have our entire repertoire right there to pick and choose from and arrange quickly. However, the lack of ability to put the length of each song and see the resulting length of your total set seems to be a huge oversight. To me, that is the most important feature, and it is unavailable. Our band is always getting booked for sets of different lengths (usually 30 minutes, 45 minutes or an hour) and to be able to see how long our performance is going to end up without having to do math or actually run through the set would be very nice.
That being said, I love this app and I am certainly not complaining about it, especially since it's free. I commend the developer and I hope very much that they will add this feature in a future update. Thanks for taking the pain out of putting set lists together!

Excellent App

This is an outstanding app. I have had a great experience not only using the app but in my discussion with the developer when I had questions. I would highly recommend this app for anyone who is tasked with creating a set list and managing the set list through the course of preparing for shows. This allows you to link the actual music and recording to the songs in your set lists and has a really intuitive interface for dragging music between sets and between libraries. The emailing in app purchase is handy for sending the set list out....I personally did not think that should be a charge for this feature, but I would have paid for what was otherwise a free app so it balances out.

One feature would make it perfect for me

I have looked for a good set list app ever since getting my iPhone. Now I've found one I absolutely love! It has every feature I need and some I didn't know I needed, like linking audio so I can preview the set. The feature that would make this app perfect in my book would be the ability to estimate the duration of a set. If I could enter the approximate length of a song in the database and if the app would display a total as I add and delete songs, I'd know if a set was likely to run long or short. Meanwhile, I'll keep using this app with delight!
