Sir Sampleton is a sampling musical keyboard inspired by Casio and Yamaha samplers from the 80s. The app allows you to record sounds through the microphone and then play them on dual piano keyboards accompanied by a rhythm machine. INSTRUCTIONS:
TO SAMPLE: press the red button and speak into the microphone. It will sample for about 3 seconds.
TO PLAY A DRUM BEAT: press the drum icon button in the upper left to open the Rhythm Menu, and then select the beat you want to play. To change the tempo or beat volume, use the buttons on the right. Press the X to return to the keyboard.
TO GENERATE A RANDOM BEAT: press the drum icon button to open the Rhythm Menu, and then press the RANDOM button. To generate a new random beat, press the button again.
TO SAVE A SAMPLE: press the keyboard icon button in the upper left to open the Sounds Menu. Press SAVE and then choose one of the flashing numbered buttons. Your sample is then saved on that button. Press the X to return to the keyboard.
TO LOAD A SAMPLE: press the keyboard icon button in the upper left to open the Sounds Menu. Press the numbered button where you saved the sample. Press the X to return to the keyboard.
TO PREVIEW A SAVED SAMPLE: press and hold the numbered button in the Sounds Menu.
TO SAVE CHANGES TO A SAMPLE'S SOUND SETTINGS: press and hold the 'save' button in the Sounds Menu.

Excellent sampler!!
This app is simple and straight to the point. It feels very similar to an old Casio Sk type keyboard. Perfect for sequencing short vocal samples.

No compatibility with GarageBand?
This Would be a useful, powerful and simple sampler if it was compatible with garage band. Unfortunately there is no option to switch back and forth between the to apps like other sampling apps rendering recoding impossible and making this nothing more than a waste of a dollar. If you fix it it'll earn 5 stars.

Love this app
Maybe it's my affinity for the Casio SK-1 that makes me appreciate this little keyboard sampling app so much. The Audiobus update has renewed my interest in using it.

Fun and useful sampler
If I need a quick, easy retro sound, this is usually my go to. It's ease of use along with it's MIDI and IAA make it incredibly simple to use in my workflow.

Sample length changes with pitch
It's can be a fun toy, but the possibilities are somewhat limited by the simple pitch shifting algorithm. IE holding down a chord causes all of the samples to loop at different rates and the groove quickly descends into chaos.

Very good, but...
This is a very fun app to keep me entertained for a while, but I was hoping to use it as more of a tool, not a toy. Please add a record ability. Maybe as an in app purchase. I would definitely pay for it.

Really cool app but you can not export samples you make for use in DAWs so I only use this when I'm bored and not as a tool in my productions. I would gladly pay more for wav export capability.

App was just fine until I updated today. Now I can't get the sound to come out my speakers, it only comes out of the earpiece. Can't find any way to switch it (the speakers work for every other app still and no my phone is not on vibrate)

Needs One Thing
This sampler ridiculously easy to use, and I would love to use it live for interesting background ambient noise (I.e. Playing the 1 and the 5 of whatever key I'm as a drone layer), but to do that it really needs a SUSTAIN button/function that can be quickly turned on and off. So please please please add a sustain feature. That would be killer.

Top Notch Sampler
I've been using samplers since the '90's, and this app is a powerful alternative to the expensive Dr. Sample type devices I used to use. The beauty lies in its simplicity and the ability to save lots of samples in the various banks. Fun for those that just want to mess around, or for those that Play music and wish to use it for something a little more serious.

Very Nice and a breeze!
Simple and it works well. Nothing complicated about it. It's not the bomb diggity, but it serves its purpose well. Doesn't work unless I have earphones or a speaker connected. Otherwise it sounds distorted and all weird.
The Samples sound really good when taken with the app. The cost is great. Just wish I didn't need to connect a speaker to my ipod 5th generation to hear the sounds.

Dead simple sampler
I love this app. It makes sampling (recording a brief snippet of sound) and playing on the keyboard quite easy. I use it for everything from recording interesting sounds I hear out, to actually making music, to messing with my dogs with it.

Fun, gorgeous sounding.
Even better after this update. Downloadable sample libraries are great. Amazing tone, great flexibility. Just enough control over the tone to get what you want without making it too complicated. Highly recommended. And the stereo panning is aces.

Serves no practical purpose
What am I supposed to do after I record the samples? There's no sequencer interface where I can lay the samples down to form a song! What a waste of time and money.
Is there nobody out there who has made an app for musicians who just want to beatbox/hum their ideas into a sampler, layer looped samples into verses, and make a rough song that can be exported as an MP3 to Dropbox or something?

Love it, but...
If you've ever had a Casio SK-1 or SK-5, you'll love this. This app would be perfect if you could save the settings for each sample, name each sample, samples had envelope presets, and the interface was a bit more intuitive.

Best app I own
I found out about this app when its creator, Paul Slocum, lectured at my school (bard college). I'm an experimental music major there, and this app has been by far the most used and enjoyed by me, and I haven't even plugged it into my computer yet. The worst thing I can say about this app is that it's so fun to play with that I don't even want to do anything productive with it because it's so much fun to mess around. 10 out of five stars!

King of Kings and Lord of Sampling Lords
Sir sampleton is fantastic, so much so I gifted it to my friends. Push a button to record, then play it back at different pitches/speeds on a keyboard. Works fine with my Akai Synthstation 25. There's built in drum beats to jam with and enough user memory spots to save a good amount of your sounds. I used to believe in Jesus, but now Sir Sampleton is my personal savior. Blessed are those who have not downloaded his amazing app and yet believe!

This app is awesome. Very well done and loads of fun. Very happy with it and have recommended it to others.
That being said, can you please fix the problem where when going back to single sample from dual sample the two samples stay on the keyboards respectively rather than reverting to two keyboards both playing one sample as you'd expect.
Also with dual sample mode, there is no way to assign presets to each individual keyboard; selecting a preset will set both keyboards to the preset that is selected overriding both samples. It would be nice to be able to select a preset for each keyboard.

A couple of suggestions...
There isn't a way, as far as I can see, to turn off the loop function. Not all samples sound good looped especially when there are no provisions to select the begin and end points of the sample. So, if you want to sample something like a human voice with fade out to silence, it won't work.
Also, the SK-1, 1985 technology, had the ability to detect the 'dead/no sound' space in front of and behind the sample. After sampling, you'd press the loop button and it would only loop the audible portion of the sample.
An example of the benefit of this function: Sample the snap of two coins between your fingers. Press the playback and you get a very short click. Loop this and you get a nice sawtooth wave that plays back like a nice analog synth. Sir Sampleton won't do this. Using the same technique you only get a 'click-click-click-click' on playback.
Offering only some pre-selected length control for your samples (as well as some trailing echo) leaves Sir Sampleton, I'm afraid, in it's novelty stage. Although it can sample faithfully and playback with minimal aliasing, the constant looping leaves little creative control and lends for more frustration than creation.
Simple enough for children? Sure.
Useful for musicians and producers? Not at this stage.

Okay: one, it's about as dead simple as it gets. BRAVO!
Two, the graphics are pitch perfect. Paul, you've done an amazing job with this. I cannot recommend this enough to anyone. So entertaining. I was instantly inspired to make a lot of fun little lines that sounded totally unique because it was all sampled from my world!
I've downloaded nearly every worthwhile music app in the iTunes store, and this is one of my top 3.
