Refreshes upon the slightest scroll slip- I think I know why
I’ve emailed the Post on this and got no response. I thought this “bug” would surely be noticeable and, since it’s so annoying, would be fixed soon. It hasn’t and I think I know why. Why would frequent refreshes be so beneficial to an app provider when it’s so annoying to users? Revenue!! The more it refreshes the more the page view count increases the more revenue from advertisers. So, the Post is willing to let the user experience suffer if in means greater advertiser revenue. The lesson: if you still want to use the app be light on your screen touch and remember how far you are into an article should you slip up and have the page reload.

I think all content, or most from what I can tell so far, is now behind a paywall. Subscribe to see the rest of the story. I don’t mind paying for local journalism, even when I don’t live there, but this app has been so bad for so long, chock full of spam ads, why would I subscribe? Digital/paper, by month, is crazy expensive and I don’t want the entire product ... so why subscribe? There is a digital promotion of $3 a month or $3 for three months, something like that, then $10 a month after that. I’d pay that for WaPost and NYT or LAT but there’s no guarantee, from what I’ve seen so far from STL Today developers that what you get is ad free, which might be worth it considering the death-by-ads model currently in use. Local journalism is well worth paying for, especially in this era, (and the P-D has very talented staff in many areas) but management needs to deliver a better digital product and model. At least now I won’t have to see these Russian spam ads.

A year later I feel compelled to update this review. It’s still horrible, maybe even worse. Pop up ads everywhere. Pop up videos. I understand the need to advertise and make money off the advertisements. But this is ridiculous. It’s so bad that I might be listening to music, or a book, and I want to check something on the site. As soon as I tap on the icon, a video pops up — and what I am listening to is lost. I tap the tiny x to get rid of it, only for it to return again and again. My use of the site — and my eyeballs on the ads they want me to see — has dwindled to the point I get the news elsewhere or I jump in, jump out, and see none of the advertising. Good job guys.

Buy a landslide, this is the worst news app on the Apple store. Terrible UI. Spam galore. It's painful to use. StL Today execs should be ashamed of this effort. Readers deserve a better effort than this drivel.

I receive about three paper A week although I have a weekly and Sunday subscription. I’ve called three time and you still can’t solve the problem. If I don’t receive my paper tomorrow I’m going to have to drop my subscription . I really enjoy the St. Louis Post Dispatch, however receiving it maybe 3 times a week is more
Aggravation then I need. If the delievery isn’t improved I’m going to drop the subscription. Hopefully you can
contact deliveryman and solve this problem.

The price is right
It’s a good quick way to get the hometown news of the day. I don’t like that it only works in portrait mode on the iPad. I miss not being able to enlarge the pics. I especially hate that any inadvertent lateral movement of the screen causes the page to reload. This is especially aggravating when doing a crossword puzzle. I do miss the ad inserts in the old paper version. A free press is still the backbone of a democracy and I’m glad there are still some people reading the news.

Getting better bit still needs a little more work
I really appreciate the work that has been done to improve this app. For example. Making most of the story links with a white background and better color font. There is one issue both my husband and myself keep having with using the app on our iphone 7 phones. While reading an article, the page will constantly refresh and take us back to the top of the article. We are continually scrolling back through trying to find where we left off. I remember one time recently, I had this happen five or six times reading an article and just gave up. I was hoping this would be fixed in the latest update bit it has not. It would be great if this could be addressed in the coming updates. Thanks

Crossword puzzle
I love to do the puzzle, but sometimes it freezes, & it often just goes away & erases what has been solved before I finish the puzzle. Very irritating. It also does not save the finished puzzle.

Seems like every update just makes this more and more irrelevant. Now there are no pictures to support, just a red banner and a headline.

Very Disappointed
The latest release has small white font headlines that cover the picture, the are barely readable. The top stories pictures are even smaller than average stories mixing scroll right / left with scrolling up and down. The screen doesn’t allow stretching which limits the font size, the app became less useful and I’m abandoning for other sources of news. None of the companies take these reviews seriously and I doubt they will do anything to change it. It’s disappointing when a new release of an app makes it worse instead of better.

Terrible ads in the middle of pages. Reading all the morons in the comment section was entertaining but that’s gone now. It portrays STL as a city full of people who are either cardinal fans or shoot each other.

Keeps Getting Worse
What happened? I used to read multiple times a day now I’m lucky to read it once a week. In the beginning the app was great. Headlines with thumbnails to easily navigate through the stories. Now we have this a nonsensical top row you scroll right through. The rest of the rows you scroll own through. Large pictures that are sorted by category not when added so you end up scrolling through stuff you’ve already read to find something you didn’t. I normally just give up and don’t bother. Bring back the easy to navigate format and for the love of Pete bring back landscape viewing as well as portrait.

“You’re a winner” pop ups constantly displaying
Constantly getting pop up “winner” spam type ads. Prevents you from continuing to read content, as it takes over your whole screen. Reported this to them, but they evidently don’t address issues if you are not a paid subscriber. Sad, sad app and webpage “stltoday.com.”

Never use it anymore
The new overhaul happened several months ago. I was glad there was an overhaul. There were so many pop up ads you could not use the app.
That no longer happens, however the app layout is awful. The top stories are in little tiny blocks on the top. I have an iPhone X. The little boxes are too small to look at, so I avoid them. The rest of the articles have big pictures, but you can’t see what the articles are. And compared to the online versions of our news channels, there are very few news articles.
I have found that I never use the app anymore. Don’t waste your time with it.

Thank you for making an app for our local news. The update is visually appealing- with all of the pictures. However, I cannot read the headlines. The white lettering is obscured by the photograph background. Any way you could improve this important feature?

App won’t rotate on my iPad
My iPad opens in ‘landscape’ view, but the app only displays in ‘portrait’ view. The margins are cut off, and basically, it’s unusable. I can view the proper images online without the app.

Please fix rotate option for iPad users
The old version was able to rotate just fine, but this version eliminated that feature. I’ve had to remove the app because I use a physical keyboard and its a pain to keep pulling it off just to view this app. Surely they can fix this quickly??

No more ability to post or read comments - are you kidding me? It is bad enough that my only real go to source for metro area-wide local news has a strong penchant for politicized propaganda, but to not have the ability to provide retort - terrible excuse for a major city’s only newspaper. My iPad is in a keyboard dock. Since the last update the app won’t allow me to view in this mode. It’s a Lee thing because I have another paper’s app that Lee owns with the same problem. 21st century problems, I know, but it’s $10 a month I could spend on something else.

As bad as the pop up ads and commercials were this new version is awful.

This “update” is not good...
This update has numerous flaws, some more aggravating than others. First, the layout with all the pics and very little text takes up too much room, and makes navigating a pain. Second, why won’t it rotate on my iPad? Third, even though I pay for a subscription, the ads are placed so that they totally interfere with reading an article. The previous version was much easier to read and to navigate. It’s even worse on my iPhone because all the pics are so large. It’s very disappointing.
