Improving your app

It might be quite a challenge to get your product to this level, but it would be a thousand times better if instead of the person selecting the duration of his musical notes, your app had an automatic length of time feature for each key you play in the piano app; this would make composition faster. The manual system should be used only if desired or to fix misreadings of the automatic system.

Really good app. But crashes often, but saves more often

No hate on this app, and I can’t really blame it for crashing when my song is 600kb and a normal song is maybe 25kb. but it has a few issues that make it not 5 stars.
Major:
1. If you play the same measure three times before letting it finish the measure, it just dies on the spot, it saves your work very often. Just really annoying if you’re trying to hear a specific chord, and it just died.
2. It no longer registers that I want to send a file to my email. PDF works fine, but I don’t want to copy over a 600kb song myself over to another program.
Minor:
3. Instruments sometimes do not load until you switch it to something else, play the song for about a measure, then switch it back. Usually happens for the weirder instruments like Fx crystal and ocarina.
4. Related to 3. Some of the instruments do not have similar base decibel values, the ocarina is barely audible at ~80% where the harmonica is over powering at ~70%.
5. This only happened to me once, the player started spazzing out and having no idea how to display my song while playing, then it started looping a part of my song over and over again. Eventually it decided to just stop playing. I recorded it, and that is most likely the cause. Again, only happened once.
Suggestions:
1. Please merge the slur and tie keys, if you want fancy playing on two notes, then there are articulation symbols for that to change the playback.
2. Please resample the string instruments, and up the sample rate. It sounds like you only sampled the open strings, which is sufficient but sounds metallic.
3. Copy and paste between songs please, I wanted to make themes for a brother and sister, but couldn’t copy melodies between the two to make them similar. Or even just a clipboard that holds multiple melodies.
4. Since changing the concert key already gives the option to transpose the whole song, why not add this feature to the mid-song key changes too.
Praise:
Other than this it is a great program. Glad it finally decided to have dynamics do something now.
The transpose notes tool is fun, a bit messy to use on a phone, but that’s more my phones fault.
It’s fun to see my ideas for background music come to life. I have easily spent 45+ hours of time in this app and have only had the app for 2-3 years.
Thanks for the easiest to use music app I’ve seen,

Suggestions:

Could you please add a glissando mark? It is missing and would be great to add for violin or other instruments of the sort.
Pizzicato would also be nice and inverted turns and inverted mordants would be useful.
Apart from some missing notation, iWriteMusic is such a useful app! You can use it whenever, it doesn’t take too much storage, I have been using the app for 4years and have bought the full version! The game does crash sometimes, could that please be fixed? Great App!

Great app

I have a great time with this app, except that the percussion sounds bad and there’s no marching band ability so if you could make something to where we can make marching drill I would definety write even more music. Other than that I LOVE IT

I hate the update!!!

I am a professional musician who notates all my own piano music. I used to love this app because it was user friendly and easy to use. Now it’s impossible to not change the pitch when ** I am trying to change the rhythm. Tenutos turn into something else during use. What used to be a joy to use has now become a chore. If these issues are not addressed I will take my business elsewhere.

This app is amazing; so here's what I want changed

This app is without a doubt the #1 music composition app; all competition does not even come close to how great this is. That being said, a lot can be changed, and here's what I think.
1. Fixes
-Pasting too much at once causes a crash. This could be fixed by pasting 2Mb per frame instead of pasting the entire section instantly. Normally this isn't a problem until you reach values of say 200Mb.
-clear bar and delete bar have the same problem as pasting; and the same solution.
-There is glitch involving note heads. When a special note head (X) is on the same beat and same track as a normal note head, deleting the X will cause the normal note head to become an X and it will no longer be functional. This only occurs when the X is higher up than the normal note head.
-when exporting in midi, every software I've tried has not recognized percussion notation and plays the track as piano instead of a drum set.
2. Changes
-I would like to see dynamic markings work during playback. It wouldn't be too hard; just make each one set the volume bar in the playback menu at a different value. Maybe ff is 100%, mf is 60%, f is 80%, etc etc.
-I would like to be able to copy and paste multiple tracks at a time. If the above proposition of pasting 2 Mb per frame instead of pasting instantly is implemented, there should be no problem with crashing.
-Clarinet volume and sustain should be raised.
-acoustic guitar volume should be raised.
Wave tools (saw wave, square wave, etc) volume should be lowered.
-staccato and tenuto notation should actually work in playback, just by changing the length of each note. Staccato could be a 64th note followed by rests, tenuto could be 1/8 of the note's length longer.
-repeats should work.
-you should be able to do a special copy that lets you paste into other songs.
3. Additions
-there should be a bend or slide feature that lets a note go through all integer Hz values while it approaches the next note.
-you should be able to transpose a track and change its key relative to its natural key so that real players could read the music. This shift should not change the way it sounds in playback, however.
I don't use auto save, because sometimes I delete entire sections or make other big changes just to see how it sounds. That said, there should be a crash recovery feature. When you open the app after a crash, you could opt to open with crash recovery or not.
Overall, this app is amazing. I even prefer it over computer notation softwares. I've been using it for over 4 years, and I've loved every second of it. I hope at least some of these suggestions are considered, and here's to the best and cheapest notation app on mobile. Cheers!

WONDERFUL but i have a slight problem

Super duper app i absolutely love it, its easy to use, worth the money, and it enriches my life. However, slight personal issue:
I had to redownload the app to update it (my phone is dumb) and before i did i exported all my written songs to google drive.
Afterwards when i tried to import them back i could not find a way to do it?
Before it updated i could export them from the drive to the app but the app doesnt show up as an option anymore.
Basically reimplementing that feature would be nice as i still am in the dark as to getting those songs back in the app :(

Superb, but frustrating

I've had iwritemusic for years, and upgraded to the full version not too long ago. The app's mechanics and features are excellent thanks to a straightforward system and a wide array of options. Sadly, there are some issues that have been around since the app's debut. The most troublesome problem is the fact that the app crashes... A lot. The device I am using is a bit old, but is updated and more than capable of running the software, but crashes happen at an alarming rate and it has been this way for years. The other main issue is with the playback feature. Options are very limited in this regard. Dynamics are not represented. Instrument keys don't seem to carry into the audio playback. Other than these problems (crashes being the biggest issue), iWriteMusic is quite a good option for anyone trying to compose or arrange music on a mobile device.

Great application

Simply put, this is a great application for composing music on the go. I am by no means a professional composer, with that said, this application has everything I need to compose music. It also includes an option to export as MIDI, which very helpful for transferring songs to other applications.
Now on to some of the downsides to this application. One downside is that sometimes while trying to scroll across the screen, it reads my gesture as an attempt to place a note. I am using an iPhone, so I don't know if that issue is as relevant on an iPad. Another downside is that there is no "select note" mode, for easily deleting or moving multiple notes.
Overall this is a great application that I highly recommend!

Really? You had months to get ready for iOS7!

Look one of the compatibility issues so thoughtfully mentioned at the top of the app listing is that ALL of the text entry boxes have been disabled. Until the next update, which good customer service theory suggests should happen as close to YESTERDAY as possible, I can't name my music, tracks or assert my copyright. Luckily, the windows that operate with pull down windows (key, octave, instrument etc.) all seem to work, so a composer working for him or herself can get work down. However, someone chasing a real check and deadline situation is going to flip out over the flaws and may try someone else's notation software.
When the app writers take their thumbs out and fix things this is four star software that just needs a better algorithm for violins, which seem to be the hardest instrument to replicate across a broad swath of apps and other software.

Very good HOWEVER:

This is a really nice app for only 2.99,
However, It gets lags and crashes every 5-10 minutes, so I'm constantly losing work unless I save all the time, which I will do anyway. Closing background apps as suggested did not help. I am using the 4s. I would rate this at 5 stars and pay a higher price, say $7 if it didn't crash, and $15 if it didn't lag or crash. Will still try to use, thank you!

Finale incorporation necessary

This is a seriously cool app. Human interface is amazing, and extremely easy to learn.
But there's always gonna be people like me who want it to be better.
What I'm looking for is a way to import and export .mus and import .mid files. I work mainly in Finale, but it's installed on a desktop computer, so it's not quite as portable as an iPhone.
Also, there is barely any percussion instruments, and it would be great to have those as well, with the standard percussion notation.
Once something is done to fix these issues, I will gladly give this the five-star rating it deserves! :)

Not too bad but crashes

I bought Maestro and was very disappointed, then got this one and I love it except for two things:
It's very practical and extremely easy to use, but crashes way too much and tells me to close my background apps when there aren't any running, as well as everything else incoming off with the wifi as well. Secondly, I noticed that some of the functions, such as trill and fortepiano are greyed out; you can use them but they don't work in playback. I wish that worked. Other than those minor things, this app is totally worth the purchase, and way better than the other apps. iWriteMusicProject, please fix these few things and it'd be perfect! Thanks for creating!

Gives Finale a run for its money

This app is an amazing tool for any songwriter. With the ability to create an orchestral movement on the go, this app is a must have. I play the piano, and this app has helped me compose music while balancing my busy school schedule. The app has almost all the tools one might need. The program alerts you when you have made a mistake, it allows you to copy and paste entire sections, saving you a ton of work. It also plays back anything you write so that you can check yourself for errors. With numerous built in presets for timings, keys, and and octaves, this app is easy to use, and at it's low price, is a great deal. I have only had two problems with this app so far. First off, if a song is becoming lengthy, the app has a tendency to crash, causing me to save my work frequently, or risk losing what I've been working on. The only other problem is that the program seems to be missing a grace note feature which I'm sure they will add in a later update (hint).

A for Awesome!

This app continues to rock. I hope in future updates we'll be able to write:
1) 4 quarter notes in 3/4 time. It's like a triplet, only it's in 4.
2) the capacity to recognize other kinds of triplet. Weird ones like two triplets that's connected as if they're are one. But they really are.
3) and for an empty measure (with no notes) to accept a whole rest no matter the time signature. Say in 2/4 time, there's a measure that you need to fill in with one rest; which, in proper notation, should only be one whole rest.
I hope I'm not spamming or anything. Hehe. Thank you:)

Love it!

What a great music notation app in the palm of my hand! It needs a few fixes but it's going to be great! I really love it's design.
