The flash is used to light up the image when you touch the 'flashlight' icon on screen. It is only on when you want it on. With that said, continued use of the flash may dramatically decrease battery life.

Nothing special
This app combines your phone's camera and flashlight, and a tip calculator into a single utility. The app has ads that you can get rid of by paying more.
Not worth it. Instead just take a picture of what you want to see (a menu, a label, etc) then view the picture, zooming in as necessary to read the print. That's all this app does anyway.

Even though it's a pay version doesn't mean you don't get ads. It will cost you another $1 to permanently remove ads. OK. Nothing special.

Extremely Useful and Well Conceived App
I've used a variety of magnifying apps over the years, but this one is by far the best. I was initially somewhat skeptical as to its utility, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it will become an indispensable app in my daily life. It is a very simple app, but the features it has are so well conceived and intuitive that it easily merits a five star rating. Well done!

Over 40 App is A Godsend.
My husband and I both have poor eyesight. The Over 40 magnifying glass App is a Godsend. We don't always remember to carry our reading glasses; but we always have our IPhone. This is really useful when we are in a restaurant struggling with the menu. It also has a tip calculator and a flashlight. Very highly recommended App!

Wow what an idea!
I had never thought of this before but if you need reading glasses then this is the app for you. It is a very easy to use magnifying glass for digital reading. Especially if you read in the dark this could be very helpful to you!

Great app!
This is a great app for looking at anything that you can't see normally. I don't even need reading glasses while using this app and I must say it is a great magnifying glass. Overall a great app that is easy to use and has a great interface.

I love this app
Why I love this app? It's because I can use this one as my reading glasses. This is a good magnifying glass. I can even use this as my macro lens as it can zoom and magnify close to my subject if I'll use it in taking photos. I've got to use this app from now on.

Don't buy this!!Too many ads!!

New version is busted
The newly released version (as of 04/10/15) is busted. It crashes immediately when trying to start up.
This is on an iPhone 4S, running iOS 7.1.2.

Stopped working
Tried deleting and re downloading. No magnifier view, no light. Locks up on screen suggesting I buy no-ads version. Doesn't even allow me to click to buy no ads. Based on other reviews I wouldn't anyway. Used to be a good app.

The app used to work but doesn't anymore. In addition to paying for the app you have to pay more if you don't want to be bombarded with ads. This wasn't an issue with previous versions. Very disappointed in new product.

Please don't buy it, don't make the same mistake as I did
After you paying and opening the application you will aware that there's ads enabled all the time.
If you want to remove them, you need to pay again!!
After making this mistake, I was aware the there are other ones better, cheaper and you not need to pain again to remove the ads.

Wouldn't buy again
Picked this up after seeing someone use it. Was not aware he had paid for no ads. Wasn't aware of the ads before purchasing. Imagine my surprise when one of the first dialogues that popped asked if I wanted to pay for no ad version. Would never buy again. Apps should be either paid or ad supported, not both.

Bought this because my eye doc told me about it. It does not help, focuses in too small, does not take place of reading glasses. As my husband pointed out, you would be better off taking a picture of menu or what ever you need to read and then enlarging it slightly on your iPhone. No need for the ap.

Kind of a ripoff
Having paid for the app I found it disappointing to have to pay another fee just to get rid of a single ad. And so with every ad you have to pay another fee to eliminate that ad.

Can't Imagine Life without It!
Never had the best eyesight (okay, blind as a bat) but once I hit 60, I couldn't see anything without a floodlight. My optometrist told me about Over 40 and I have told at least a couple of dozen others. It is the most-used app I have, great in restaurants and to find things on dark floors and carpets, read tiny numbers on keys and locks, etc. LOVE IT!

App has saved me at many a restaurant
Great because I often forget to bring with me my new reading glasses, but I always carry my smartphone. This has been a great help when trying to read menus in dimly lit restaurants.

Paid version has ads!!!
The app itself works ok (just ok), but be aware that the $1.99 version of the app still has advertisements in it, and you have to pay an additional $.99 to disable those. When you dig deeper in the App Store description, you'll come across that, but I find it deceptive and very, very uncool. Won't be buying from this publisher again.

Great App! Wish it could augment from close distance but I believe this is a HW limitation. Very handy, one of the few apps direct listed in my iPhone, not inside a group.

Can't live without it.
I am at the age where I only need reading glasses if it is really dark or the print is really small.
Therefore I don't typically carry reading glasses. I have them in my office and at home, but don't take them with me.
This app is great for when you are in a restaurant and the light is dim. It is also good for when you are trying to read extra small print on a product while in a store.
If you need reading glasses, get this app. You will love it.

Great for reading fine print
I have this app 4 stars because the view is grainy, however it does allow one to read fine print up close. That's about all. I do not know if its their app or the lens on my iPhone 4S that makes for the graininess.

First page, first row, first column so I can always find my way in the dark or on a printed page. Ads, you don't have to read them, especially when you can't see them without glasses.

Since I never carry my reading glasses, this app is very handy. I now can read small print when away from home. Easy to use.

Very useful..Just need photo option
This app is great for "older" eyes that need that magnification and when the light is low the flashlight option is just what's needed.
Only thing missing is the option to take a picture. You'd get a 5 star rating if it was added.

Needs 'tap freeze'
Handy, but annoying to try to hold your phone over text while you read it.. Other magnifiers hold a freeze frame when you tap the screen so that you can read/inspect in a comfortable position.

Don't get old without this.
Very clean and easy to use. The options for the flashlight are a nice touch since there are situations when you need a constant light and others when you only need it for a few seconds.
Being able to switch between a magnifying glass look and a full screen magnifier make this an app that can be very functional or used to show off to your friends.

Flaws but still very good
I used this app to help me fix a camera because I couldn't clearly see the problem area and I couldnt get any closer physically. Yes it does have ads. I did not find them annoying though. The focus takes a sec but that is due mostly to limitations of the hardware not the app. Finally some comment about the one minute time limit on the flashlight. That is to keep from ruining your phone. All you have to do us click it off then on again to reset the timer. My phone got super hot from doing that though. Anyway this app helped me a ton and I appreciate it.

DON'T BUT THIS APP!!!
Push back and DO NOT SUPPORT deceptive development. If you look at the screenshots for this application, that is NOT what you will actual purchase. This app functions with an advertisement banner at the bottom of the view. To get rid of the advertisements you have to PAY MORE. That is pure deception to me.
This version should be FREE. I would then accept paying more to suppress the advertisements.
If you really want this app, pony up for the $2.99 version which is the version actually shown in the screenshots for this $0.99 version. This one isn't worth $0.99 with advertisements in the way.
But more importantly, try not to buy it at all. We should not support deceptive development.

WARNING! RIP OFF!!! DO NOT BUY THIS APP!!
Even though I was just looking for a flashlight app -- most of which are free -- I decided to purchase this one because it was a flashlight and magnifying glass in one. I thought that was neat.
The app did work as promised, but it came with ADS in the bottom of the screen. And there was a link that said "Disable Ads?" And that link was to purchase another app -- and app that would ... you guessed it ... DISABLE the Ads.
In other words, I PAID for an app and it came with a horrible feature (ads on my display) that I have to PAY to disable.
Shame on these jerks!
I deleted my app, and wrote this up as a $1 lesson.
DO NOT BUY THIS APP!!! (Don't say you weren't warned.)

Don't like at all.
I have a 3GS. I've un and re-installed it twice and mirror option doesn't appear. I saw where you have to have the IP4 to have the flashlight work, but, all I can get is 1 out of the 3 ablities it promotes. Not a happy customer and want a refund. I'm not that impressed w/ the maganification, either. I don't like this app and can't find a way to contact the developer and get a refund. For me it was a waste of money.

Very useful app!!!
I used to carry REAL magnifying glasses with me in my raincoat, backpacks, and coats and have to pull them out occasionally at a coffee shop or in the subway . . . no longer. The adjustable magnification on this Magnifier works perfectly. And I always have my iPhone on me so I can now leave the other magnifying glasses home. Well thought out & constructed app and good tech support from the developer :-)

Loved it until it locked up
This locked up on my iPhone 4s when I went to explore settings. I thought it was just trying to force me to share app on social media but even after I sent the link to someone, it is stuck on the mail screen and can't cancel back to the magnifier etc. I can't love it, can't use it, and sure cant recommend it if I can't get to it.

This app is fantastic! I am "over 40" (thanks for that sooo funny name!) and I literally was looking for a small lighted magnifier to carry for using in restaurants, etc. I mentioned it to my daughter and she said, "Isn't there an app for that?" I pulled out the iPhone and viola!! It's perfect!

Nice app, I hate paying for ads
I would give this app 4 stars if it were not for the constantly changing ad billboard at the bottom of the screen - which I can turn off for an additional $1.99. This app is perfect for those times I forget my reading glasses but it's days are numbered - I will be looking for a less irritating product that provides the same features. I PAY for these products so I am not forced to watch ads.

Forget your glasses again at the super market, need to read the label. I often find myself needing to read numbers and letters that are to small even with my glasses. I always have my phone with me,just make sense to own this app. Love it.

Appropriately Named APP
Once you've hit the big 4-0, the eyes sadly deteriorate. I've used this app to read the tiny print on the recipe, menu, ingredients, nutritional values etc. I've recommended this app and must have been a catalyst on its being so popular on this side of the East Coast! Kudos to the developers. Good job!

Doesn't work on 4s
It used the front facing camera so all it magnified was my face. That's the last thing I need. Trying to use the Settings button to adjust it locked up my phone twice. This isn't rocket science folks, there are much better apps out there that won't lock your phone up. Avoid.

APP HAS ADS AT THE BOTTOM
I, like another reviewer, resent the fact that I just PAID for this app and have ads forced on me. They are annoying and in the way. The space that ad is using could have been used for the controls.
This was almost a great app. Had it been free I would have given it 5 stars and sucked up the fact that I have to deal with ads. But to actually CHARGE a customer for the app and then STILL implement ads is unacceptable. Completely unacceptable. I want a refund.
Developer...get RID OF THE ADS. By the way, your screen shot doesn't show ads. VERY MISLEADING.

Really good app.
I was almost positive this wouldn't work, that magnified images would be blurry. Wrong! I downloaded it so I could read the tiny writing on the back of my watch, and it worked beautifully.

Don't listen to the other messages that say it turns off after 1 sec or so.
they didn't adjust the settings - you can leave the light on as long as you want and adjust the magnification and view to what ever you need.
really works well using the camera lens. The Light helps in dim lighted areas. Just what I have been looking for - Will use it in restraunts and for maps in the car, and other fine print times - especially in dim light. If you don't need this - then consider yourself lucky - you are under 45 and you will need to get this app someday in the future so don't forget it.

This seems to work ok. I found there wasn't any help on how to change the magification, so I gave up on it. After I bought another magnify app, I saw a comment on this one that pinch will change the magnification. So that makes it a log more useful.
I think the app would be even more useful if 90% of the screen could be used to display the target being viewed. Instead of the "too cute" magnifying glass icon, which only let's you use 1/3 of your iPhone screen to view what you're trying to read.

What a great idea ! This app is really useful for those of that are visually challenged. Works great too and I really liked the flashlight feature. Showed to some friends, and they loved the idea too.
