Still Needs Work
Better than the older version I'm terms of layout, but dividing news into North/South isn't quite enough. This should really be organized by city. While that might make for some duplicative listings, at least it would make it easier to browse.
And what's with not being able to change the font size? Seriously?

Why have news by cities?
They have designations for news by city, north and south county, but there's no actual consistency with them. Anaheim news in the Fullerton section. North county news in the south county section, etc... This app and navigating it is frustrating.

This app stinks. Too much repeated content (North News vs South news). It is also hard to find topics by city. The old app was much better and easier to use.

Latest Changes not Great
I liked being able to pick topics and sections. This new version is north county and south county, which are virtually the same... Opinion and Sports are the only other choices. The ads are not identified as sponsored or advertisements...not a fan, and this app will be deleted

Better than it was - needs a font/typeface adjustment
App was a disaster before so just about anything is an improvement, however, the font used is incredibly small. Need to add a user interface to make the print/typeface readable

Content Lacking
Not enough content/repeating content (North and South OC).. Not user friendly. Pages finally load fast, but give more option like the paper does- oh and clicked on real estate thinking it would have business/real estate articles, it took me to a portal for houses for sale... um ok.

Who is in charge to determine the cities which show up for South County?
Everyone knows that Fullerton and Anaheim are North County News. Also where is the business news? I hate this app,
I wish the for the old version. It's obvious that OC Register doesn't care or listen to their patrons.

Few articles that just seem to repeat
So they removed the cities list because they didn't include all the cities in OC. Now it's basically north or south OC and the articles are the same most of the time. Appear to be plenty of of opinion articles though. No more lifestyle articles or city articles. :(

I can barely read the headlines and the story previews on the main page, forget it, they're unreadable because the print is microscopic. No way to make it bigger either. Huge problem.

Not news
I used to think of OC Register as one of the top newspapers back in the 1990s. Now since ownership changed several times, somehow it has become a rag that pushes for marijuana normalization. They keep writing these articles with incorrect facts, just to try to push for a druggie society. I'm done with OC Register, now I just read LA Times. Even though LA Times is left wing, at least they don't push drugs.

Old App!
Why would you reinvent the wheel, especially so drastically? What a mess. No easy way to hop on and off, to make a quick comment or whatever. In fact, good luck figuring out how to comment at all. Entirely over-complicated and not even a tiny bit intuitive. Ads are totally in the way, too, and if you try to click to close them, you instead get to deal with the frustration of opening a link to more ad details. What a POS.

Needs work
I liked the older version much better but was willing to give this new updated look a chance. It has ads everywhere and random cities highlights that aren't anywhere close to my location. As of 4/17, Now I can't even access the app it just crashes! Useless. I will update my review once it is fixed.

Not An Improvement
As a long time subscriber of the paper and user of the app I would say the OC Register isn't what it used to be. Very generic. Removing the individual cities from the app was not a good idea.

As others have said, city by city news is an important feature, but so is being able to go back to a paper in the last few days. Bring back the archives! Even the website lacks a link to archives. How are we supposed to get the sections that weren't delivered properly to begin with?!?

Old app
I lived in Orange County for 50 years and recently moved out of state so the on line register was my only connection to home. I loved the old app. I could go straight to whatever I wanted to see such as my home town and the angels. Now I have to see whatever you select and yesterday it was the Dodgers. And no where are the different cities listed. Needless to say this app is terrible why do people have to change things when they are not broken. If you are upgrading at least live the workable parts of old app intact.

No comics
The app is just a list of headlines. I enjoy reading the Dilbert cartoon every day but I could not find it, nor any of the other comics.
It was bad enough when the OC register illuminated the Bridge column, but now it seems you have lemonade it the entire comics section.

I had given up on this app ever getting updated, so this is a welcome improvement. But please add back in a section for city by city news – that was one of my favorite features in the old app.

App works fine but has critical flaws
This app gives me news, it does that, but has critical flaws.
1. The photo quality in articles is the absolute worst. Look like something I'd see 10-15 years ago.
2. Some stories don't wrap their text properly so the right side is cut off enough to make the whole article completely unreadable.

The app runs slow and gets stuck causing me to have to restart it.

Good, but missing key features
For the most part this is a good app and well organized. Unfortunately it lacks any search function to find articles. The most glaring omission is content from OCVarsity sports. I see OCVarsity Arts made the cut, but not the fantastic content from their sports writers.

This app constantly crashes and never updates anymore. Also missing obituaries and other sections...LA Times here I come...again!! I head to the Times every time the Register app fails. Seems to be quite often lately! UPDATE: just read today the Register will start charging a subscription fee for Internet access to the paper. I'm not paying for this joke of a paper!

Crash
Just another disappointing update where the big issue of crashing or (for days) updating stories is not fixed. I am sadly dissappointed, and by the looks of everyone else's reviews, i not in this boat alone. You have had more updates in the last week to try and fix the issue, but none of it has worked on my iPhone 4s.
While you are in the works of your next update, it would also be nice to see the obituary section and weekly adds. Also you would have a better app if you had all the news articles you put out in the printed newspaper on your app. The app doesn't have enough news to read, since the two "top news" & "topics" fields all have the same news pretty much (except for one to two news story difference between each of the fields. I liked the older "topics" field much better, when the user had the choice of which topic they wanted to read up on. Example, Crime, local, obituaries, weekly adds, etc. You have the top bar menu under "topics," but not all the sections that used to be covered is an option any longer. :-( Boo!
You can find me reading up on my news on Yahoo, LA Times, CNN, and AlterNet.com until I see a worthily enough update for your app.

If I could give 0 stars, I would...
This app was never what I would commend as a "good" app - it doesn't allow viewers to see user comments and isn't organized the way the website is with respect to type of story (ie crime and courts). However, it was fine until about a week or 2 ago. All of the sudden, the app stopped refreshing and it would freeze for days or weeks on end. I deleted it and re-installed it, and that worked for a few days, but now it's back to freezing. I've already expended way too much effort for an app consisting of the Oc register!!

Hmmmm… let's see… this app USED to be great, and OC Register's IT department USED to be based in the USA. Then they laid everyone off, and moved their IT to India. Now the app doesn't work. Yep, all in the name of "progress". (I always thought progress was the improvement of things but apparently not)

I really wanted to like this ap. Sadly, it's slow and not easy to navigate. They clearly don't care too much about their mobile presence. Just wish I could read about my community on the go in a simple, easy to use, search, & navigate format.

Doesn't even deserve 1 star! Takes forever to load new news and when it does finally load it either freezes or crashes! Finally got so sick of it I just deleted this app all together! Epic fail!

Needs to be fixed
App won't even open now without a settings screen requiring a login to a Twitter account. Don't bother downloading. Before this started happening, the news would not update as other reviewers have mentioned. The latest news was 40 days old. Not worth it without major updates and fixing these issues.

Needs work
30-40 seconds to load new stories. Viewing pictures sometimes freezes the app. Facebook sharing doesn't work. I used to use this app a couple times a day but now only once a week, if that.

Since the update the app freezes every time I open a picture. I have to delete the app then reinstall and do it all over again when I open another pic! Ugh this is frustrating since I use this app daily!!

WORST News App
This has to be the worst news app I've ever seen...especially since the update some months ago. The "news" stories are seriously lacking in actual news, it reads more like the arts and entertainment section without the rest of the current news stories. Do I REALLY need to know what's going on at Disneyland today?? If the content improves, I MAY add this app again, until then I cannot stand to read any more mind numbing articles....I actually get more news from my FB friends!!

Disappointing
I've had this app for a while & it just never seems to satisfy my need to know the news in Orange County. It just seems like they give it minimal effort when it comes to delivering information to people. It's slow & not very responsive. It only gives a fraction of the news that's in it's newspaper. It is better than nothing, though. Maybe the good folks at the Register are ok with that. I wish they weren't.

Should I update or not?
I'm afraid to update after reading so many bad reviews. I'm thinking maybe it's better to leave it and deal with the app freezing once a week?
Other than that, I'm at least glad you guys post new articles "throughout" the day. For that alone I would give 4 stars. Nothing worse than an outdated newspaper.

App Won't Load!
The OC Register is the only paper I read. I used to like this app because it loaded quickly and I could glance at the latest breaking news. Somehow, this latest upgrade busted the app. Now, it won't load at all. Please fix so that I can enjoy the app again!

Problems
This app has several problems. Links don't work, pictures won't load, app crashes on occasion. All and all a mess. Only reason I gave it three stars is it has the news I want on it.

Love how it alway shows "what to do in OC" it the latest news category, and it's always completely blank ?

Problems again
I have revised my review of this app several times--after each update. Things usually look promising at first, then fail. This time, I have loaded the app onto my new iPhone. The problem is that when I try adding sections to "My News," it won't add them all, no matter how many times I try. There are columns I haven't read in weeks because I can't load them through the app, I refuse to deal with the website, and they'd have to pay me to subscribe to the paper. Oh well.

Application broken again!
After finally getting the application to work correctly it seems to have broken down again. Crashes soon after opening. When it works it a great informative app however the crashes are disappointing.

I concur with other recent posters. This app used to work well. Over time it has slowed. Would take 15, then 30, then 60 seconds or more to loa each article. Now it doesn't even loa the headlines. Not able to use, not worth having. Freedom Comm is obviously not supporting this medium.

What happened
This app was fantastic at first. Then it crashed all the time. I deleted and upgraded as told an found that around Disney was gone! I think crashing is better than losing around Disney. Fix this. Bring my favorite back please!

App keeps crashing
It's frustrating. The app just arbitrarily shuts down in the midst of reading an article or trying to navigate away from one. I've done a full shutdown on my iPhone to clear the cache and it's still problematic.

Needs a few changes...
Overall good architecture. Like being able to customize my content. White text on a black background is rather amateur and actually more difficult to read. Noticed a typo (and not in a news article which is fairly common for the OCR). Change the black background and I'll use the app.
