Description
Morse Mania is a morse code tutor app. Morse Mania provides the following modules to help you learn morse code:
Learn Characters - A morse code character is displayed on the screen as it is being played. This is useful when you're first learning the morse code alphabet, as it helps you link each sound to the corresponding character.
Guess a Character - Morse code characters are played, and you must determine which was sent. At the end of the exercise, your score is displayed.
Copy Groups - Random five letter morse code character groups are sent (and displayed on the screen). You select how many morse code groups you would like to have sent, and practice by copying the groups down. At the end of the exercise, compare what you copied to what was actually sent.
Copy Words - Random words are sent (and displayed on the screen). You select how many words you would like to have sent, and practice by copying them down. At the end of the exercise, compare what you copied to what was actually sent.
Simulated QSO - Random simulated QSOs are sent, so you get real world copying practice.

Keying - You can send more code by tapping the screen, and Morse Mania will decode it.
Typing - Tap characters on your virtual keyboard, and Morse Mania will play them.
You can configure Morse Mania to work just the way you want it to:
Set the volume and pitch of the generated morse code, as well as the speed in WPM (Words Per Minute).
Select the individual groups of characters you wish to practice.
Farnsworth mode lets you double the speed of the dots and dashes, while preserving the correct WPM, making sure you don't get stuck at the low speed "plateau".
Koch mode lets you select individual characters to learn. Once you master a character, you add another.

Great Training Aid
40 years ago, I passed my 20 wpm code requirement for my Extra class. Because of my jobs and travel to nearly 100 countries between then and now, I’ve gotten more than a little rusty and at 71, this program has helped me get my “ears” back. Thank you for such a useful program.

Also not getting any sound. The app looks good - of course, morse code app without audio though is worthless.

Flexible / Great Features and Options
Love it! Pick and choose what letters/numbers you want to practice. The various settings are easy to use. This app has certainly helped me both learn and improve over time.

Effective!
This is a worthwhile investment if you desire to learn something well with your mind. Ditch the computer folks and do it the way they originally did it! This app, used with other minimal resources, will give you success. It will require an investment of your time and mental processes, but once you have this, there will be no stopping the dedicated learner! Thanks guys, what a great help!

the best
not having a musical ear, I always had problem with cw. Despite being licensed and active since 1966.
This is the best trainer I have tried. And believe me I tried many. I did exclusively cw the first 12 months but never again until a few years ago when I got interested in QRP and I am having a though time getting back to speed.
Highly recommended.
I wish it would also work in landscape mode.

Helpful app
I’ve liked use this app to learn Morse code. It would be helpful to have the Morse symbols appear with each letter in the “learn” and “guess” sections. It would also be great to be able to select the groups of letters a student wanted to learn or which needed more practice. Is there a difference between the speed that U is sent in the Learn section vs the Guess or Type sections? I can discern between S and U so much easier in the Guess and Type sections than in the Learn section.

Needs Work!!
This is the best training app out there. I have been using it for 3 months and trying to reach 20 wpm by using the Koch method and slowly decreasing the spacing between characters. At 3 seconds spacing the program is slow to recognize a typed response character and if you are even a little slow in responding you get scored wrong on the character transmitted and the next character as well. Also the program crashes when sending a QSO on an IPhone 6. Given the speeds of today’s processors this program is ancient. It badly needs an upgrade and it could be great. That said it is the best thing out there for learning the code at speed!

Updated!
The app has been updated for iOS 10. I use it regularly and enjoy many of its features. It still is in need of bug fixes and general improvements. There are few morse trainers in the store. I have tried all of them. This comes the closest to "good" I could find, but falls just short. It needs a letters/numbers group training feature, as well as a way to drill you with callsigns and words. Right now, it just sends words and displays them. It needs to send the word and allow you to type in a guess (for example).

Learn the Code!
This app is great! Only thing better is coping a real QSO over the air. You WILL spend many, many hours with this app, it does not make learning CW easier, but it does give you a place to focus your efforts.

Trash and not updated.
This app has not been updated to iOS 10 and displays a pop up every time I launch the app.

Decent for learning, very primitive UI
While the functionality is there for learning, the UI is very primitive. I have seen DOS programs which have a better UI. Some ideas for improvement would be: display accuracy as you type instead of at the end, display accuracy per letter, automatically add in letters when you reach a certain accuracy, allow toggling letters on and off in the learn mode, have settings in a drop down menu instead of having to go back to the main menu.

Not bad, good for practice
I have a general and am learning morse. I've tried several apps and this one is one of the better available. I have a couple suggestions that I'd like to see added.
A Pause button in the would be nice in the currently named Guess Character.
A code tutor function would be fantastic. For Farnsworth or Koch start with the standard symbols for the chosen teaching method and then add another character once proficiency has increased to a settable percentage. Perhaps a setting that would configure the number of times the entire current character set has been repeated with a copy proficiency of the configure percentage then introduce a new character. Remember to mix in the numbers too. It's held by many hams that we should learn numbers and letter symbols at the same time.
The Copy Groups sends a burst of groups then simply stops. It never sends anything else. I have it set for six seconds but I've waited over thirty seconds and it just sits there.
A nice app indeed and I hope they continue to update it and add features. I'd pay for a more comprehensive version of this app.

Great, still some annoyances
Overall very good program, especially for a quick couple of minutes of practice wherever you might be.
I'm adding a star to my review after figuring out "Guess Characters" better, although it's still a bit quirky if you miss an answer.
The straight key simulator isn't very easy to use, although I blame the iPhone itself, rather than the program. You really need the tactile feedback of the key moving under your fingers.

Significant errors to fix
The Ampersand (&), the Exclamation Point (!), and the Underscore (_) ALL need to be fixed in the Koch and Farnsworth character sets. Specifically, there is no Underscore on the Morse Mania keyboard and the Ampersand and Exclamation Point are not included in the character sets.
With these attention-to-detail errors I am VERY concerned that the dits-and-dahs that are presented when using Morse Mania are equally erroneous. That would mean that the User incorrectly learns Morse Code... and will take MONTHS to unlearn.
I rated Morse Mania with a 3 because, as a learning tool, it is good but with the current errors it is very frustrating to fully utilize.

Great app
I really like this app. The only improvement I would like to see is for the guess characters section. It would be nice for the timer to reset once you input the character. Right now, you have to wait for the number of seconds you've input regardless of how fast you put the character in.

Worth every cent!
Want to learn Morse Code quickly? This app makes it easy by allowing you to select either the Farnsworth, or, Koch methodology. * I prefer the later.

Just what I was looking for
I was looking for an iOS morse code trainer that used the Koch Method. The Koch mode works well. The app is easy to use and works as advertised. Buy it and learn the morse code.

Good but needs improvement.
I'm upgrading my rating a star since they fixed the bug with prosigns sending wrong.
Using this app I was able to finally learn CW. However, there are some pretty frustrating bugs. The worst is that when using "Guess Characters" if you answer just slightly too late it thinks you are answering for the next character. Not a show stopper but very frustrating at higher speeds.

Serious about Learning Morse? - This is the one you want!
Simply put, if you want to learn and practice morse, this is the app to purchase. It provides everything you need in order to learn morse using the Koch method, which is effective and quick. Learn the characters as sounds, don't count dits and dahs and it is remarkably easy.
Later, it provides several practice and proficiency tools to keep your skills honed.
An excellent CW trainer than you can have everywhere you go...

Gross errors and One Usability Issue
Potentially a good app - BUT, there are errors! Some of the prosigns are wrong! The usability issue is that when using the "guess characters" function, if you make a mistake, it also displays and errors out the subsequent character. I would give 3 stars if it were not for the errors, but those are deal killers.

Best morse app so far
After trying them all I would say this is the best morse learning app on the iPhone. Dah dit is maybe prettier and might be just a little easier to learn individual letters on but this app has everything that dah dit does not. Koch and Farnsworth good random copy practice etc. This app is definately worth it.
