Description
The classic game of “Pitch”, also known as “Setback” brought to the iPhone and iPad. Pitch is a strategy based trick-taking card game where each player attempts to get to the winning score (typically 7, 11 or 21) by winning points. Each player “bids” on the number of points they think they could win (either 2, 3 or 4). The winning bidder then chooses the trump suit for the round. The available points that may be won for a round are High, Low, Jack of trump and Game.

Pitch card game
For the most part this game works, however the hands are very unbalanced. Most times I have no card higher than a 7 whereas the computer players often are ALWAYS loaded with A, K, Q and J of trump. No fun to play anymore since the recent update, and certainly no skill required since I either always lack trump or only have 3, 4, and 5's in my hand.
Also, computer partner often leads with the two of Trump! What the hell?

No fun anymore
Since I updated to the new version well over a month ago I almost never get dealt a hand that allows me to bid. Seems the underlying algorithm of cards dealt have changed. Not as much fun.

Computer bids crazy
I have had fun playing this app. I would prefer the computer not to “BID” so much. The computer always bids 2 or 3 right out of the gate. Whether they make the bid or not. If you bid safe and bid 2...it’s almost certain the computer goes 3. Also, the computer keeps bidding and going deeper in the whole prolonging the game sometimes. I also wish you could “fold or muck” your hand if you have no points towards game or trump in your hand.

Upset
The previous version was more user friendly. I enjoyed playing the game on landscape view now I can’t. This version looks likes it is an initial version of a game. My friends warned me not to update to the newest version and I did it by accident and now I know why. Jonathon Please go back to the original version

No improvement here
I’m disappointed with the way this turned out. The graphics are too cartoonish, and the app wasn’t redesigned to work in landscape view... a definite step backwards from the previous version. Hopefully Jonathan is working on fixing this issue, and making graphics better. Also, I keep getting ‘Cannot connect to the Game Center’ error message. Why is that? Disappointing all around...

Very, Very Bad
This app is total trash. The Game Center does not work, I am not able to play with 3 people on this app. I can only play a 1v1 through WiFi and Bluetooth. VERY Aggravating. FIX YOUR APP!!!!

Awesome!!
Just a great app! Play in 2 nightly Hi Lo Jack leagues and this app is great practice. Just wish the CPU protected for the deuce to make a little more challenging. Overall A+.

Could you please return portrait layout. I am older and use a large iPad, usually always in portrait. Not a deal breaker but would be nice

The Update is Still Lame
Not optimized for iPad as you cannot play it in portrait mode. It’s not a card players game it’s more of cheesy awkward game. The update only removed the avatars and added just a
smidge of the old classic version. Allow players to choose the new version or the real old classic and allow portrait mode.

You took a great game with a good interface and graphics and really dumbed it down. Graphics suitable for a 6 year old. Very disappointing!

Wait, what just happened?
I can’t comment about any potential update to the engine because I can’t stand playing long enough with the update to the interface to make any determination. I’ve seen reviews that are years old, so maybe the latest update is to breathe some life into the app, but to what end? No landscape mode, current game score not visible during play, on an iPad the cards are small and hard to differentiate, spade icon is clumsy, and half the game table is empty space. Even the smallest things, like displaying points after the hand vertically instead of horizontally, make things more difficult. I can’t think of one change that I would consider an improvement instead of an outright step backwards . Show this version versus the version it replaced to a hundred people, ask each which was the more advanced and feature rich, and you’d get a hundred people who would INSIST the old version is the more current. I must be missing something.
A resounding “boooo” on this update.

This is one of the worst updates. The design is cartoonish. You can no longer play landscape. I don’t know what the score is. I hate the cartoon avatars. I’m sooooo bummed that I updated it.

Worst game update ever
The latest game update ruined the feel of the original game. It once felt simple and classic but now is cartoonish and terrible. Score is hidden and trump is shown, which is the opposite of what it should be. This used to be my favorite phone game but now it’s almost not worth the trouble.

I played this game every day. The new version seems to be made for children complete with silly faces and made up spades image. The older version was perfect.

Very fun but The computer is by no means an expert.
I love this game because I can plow through hundreds of hands in a short period of time without waiting for human players to chat and get distracted Buy food alcohol and bathroom breaks. It’s great for practicing. And you can set it for most of the options one would wish. You can also be set to go at lightning speed.
The biggest problem I have found is that my computer partner is an idiot. He will bid two while holding a ace/jack and then lead the ace. He then leads to Jack regardless of what the opponents play, only to lose it to a queen or a king half the time. He does the same thing with low trump cards as well. He has made us go negative by his lead so many times I want to smack his virtual face.
Of course, I believe the opposing computer players make some of the same mistakes as well. It would be great to improve the playing algorithm for the expert level.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed it very much.

Poor upgrade
Got rid of the traditional playing card look and made them annoyingly modern. Hate it! Would be great if you could see the game score during the play. The upgrade is poor. Stars are because I like playing the game which is what it lets me do

Awful update
Not sure why this update is such a drastic change from the old version. In fact, there was nothing wrong with the old version at all. The new version is borderline unplayable in my opinion and absolutely poorly done. I won’t play it again until it goes back to what it was. It wasn’t broken, SO DON’T FIX IT!!!

Update vestion 4.0.1 Not a fan at all of this update. It is not an improvement over a game I’ve loved for years.
First off bid to win in Pitch means you can't win the game on your opponents bid. That's how it is here. Very good.
The AI is good. On expert it plays better then casual players. For all that were curious about joining a 2vs2 HLJ league at your local bar, get this. You'll walk in knowing how to play pretty legit!

What happened to my Pitch game?
My perfectly good Pitch game got replaced with a junky version with this latest update. Doesn’t show score on main play table, plays vertical only. Graphics went backwards in quality big time!. I want the IPitch version I bought back!

I used to love this game, but I will now be downloading another one. My game only plays in one portrait position. I can’t even rotate it upside down so that my ipad can be plugged in.

New Version is terrible.
I’m not one to leave reviews but this overhaul update is absolutely terrible. This game was good now its unplayable. Also it no longer works on iPad in landscape only portrait. Updates are suppose to add functionality not take it away. Wish i never updated.

Card shark
Set back was the first card game I ever learned from my father. We didn't play slap jack or war, we played Hearts, set back, games of skill and chance. I love the old app. The New one is more of a cartoon. The suits on the cards are small and blurry. The dealing is sophomoric. Everything about this redesign is worse!

Don’t like new look
I much preferred the older appearance; I’ve never cared for “flat design”. Screenshots need to be updated. Underlying engine seems to works the same way.

What happened!?
This latest update is terrible! The interface is like playing a video game from 1978, layout is disjointed and difficult to follow. Bring back the old interface and allow the user to change orientation, card styles, etc. won’t play this until the next version....or find another one.

Very unhappy with new version
I grew up playing pitch with my family and loved the prior version which offered options that were important to me. 1) I often play on my mini iPad, while laying doing my cancer treatment. The new version forces me to play vertically and is visually challenging with little color differentiation. I’ve had several eye surgeries and need bold colors work much better for me . . . Unfortunately there are no options to change table color and card patterns.
Not sure what the thought was behind this annoying new version. Have to find another game to play to pass time during my treatment.

I loved this game. Played over 1,000 hands. The new interface is absolutely awful. It’s hard to even decipher the card suits. The UX design is unplayable for me. Moving on.

Great pitch app!
Not sure what people don’t like about this app - my friends and I love it. The gameplay is spot on, the graphics are fine, and it is worth every cent of the $2 I paid for it. Highly recommend for anyone looking to grab a solid card game app.

Dumb
First of all in the first 2 games there was three times me and my partner had the high card and they took it, second there was twice that we had the 2 and they took it, third the computer aid is dumb fourth Ive tried to send a review several times and it wouldn't let me, and 5th it won't let me change any of the settings, so all in all don't buy this game it's not worth money

Not fun
Developers evidently have never played pitch before. Computer players have no idea how to play a hand or bid. It doesn’t matter what level you are playing, it is the same. Bid 4 with the ace in your hand and lead with the jack and go set every time.

Pitch review
Fun game, not very real though. The computer players do not bid enough even when they have strong hands. The is also a no garbage points setting. This setting only limits the bid winner to get what they bid but allows opponents to score. You should only score if you bid when you use a no garage points setting.

Can't play with friends
I purchased this to play with my wife and other friends. I send an invitation to play and when they accept, nothing happens. We are members of Game Center and play other games with friends. This one just doesn't work.
