Was great till it wasn’t
I had this app for five years and then just two days ago I went to look at it while shopping for books and my entire database was gone. I emailed the creators and got no response. I’m now in the process of starting to rescan hundreds of books in another app.
You get what you pay for I guess.

Good for managing a large home library
We have a few thousand books I’ve been wanting to catalog and organize for some time. This is the best app I’ve found to centralize information in an easily searchable format. Once I got over 100 books though it seemed to struggle. Some stability issues and issues with a smooth cloud merge.

I’m trying to input all my books. I keep having to close the app after 2-5 inputs. More often 2. 277 so far, three shelves to go and I should have been done a week ago.
I bought this years ago after trying the free version and probably a couple others. I liked it. I lost all my data in numerous phone changes. Nbd.

Terrible technical support
I have been using book crawler for over 10 years, way before cloud support. There was a time where you could call support and actually talk to Jaime ( I did it several times). Now you cannot get anyone to answer let alone call you back or answer an email.
Although I am not a tekkie I am not ignorant of technology but the directions in the help section are very difficult to follow. I have paid for a subscription but for the last two weeks cannot get my cloud syncing to work on my iPad and cannot get anyone to help me.
Very disappointed in support and mostly of Jaime who has let her app fall short of the superior product I once knew.

This app used to be awesome… not anymore
I paid for the larger version years ago and now I’m having the same problem as some of the other people. 🤬 I can’t add anymore books because it says the trial version is over but that’s crap. It does nothing when you click on the restore or purchase. If they want to charge more money fine. I used to think this app was worth twice what I paid for it but not now. Another review made the comment that maybe they are going out of business. The idea scared me because I would have to go back to what I did before. Having a notebook to carry around is NOT appealing. If they fix this issue I will repost another review

It’s Back!
Yes, like many others I was frustrated because suddenly I could no longer add new books. Spent a couple days trying out other apps and none had all the features offered by Book Crawler. I’ve used it for many years and glad that the developer has fixed the purchase glitch.

Impossible to add new books
I seem to be having the exact same problem as a number of other users. When trying to add a new book I get a message that I have exceeded the numbers allowed in the trial
version—despite having purchased the full version previously.
When I click on purchase nothing happens.

Great app but can’t add more books
All of a sudden I can’t add more books. It says my free subscription is full and to purchase a paid subscription. But there’s no way to do that. The developers web site is not functional and I see no way to contact him or her. Disappointed. I need this app!

I have relied on this app for years of solid service. As of today, however, I notice that I am no longer able to add new titles. I tried to add a book and received a message that I had reached my limit on the trial app. I purchased the full app (not the trial or lite version) several years ago. The message said that I had to purchase the full version to continue. I went to the App Store and the only version available to purchase (even if I wanted to re-purchase) is the Lite version. The App Support tab does not work. It shows that I don’t have any Book Crawler at all. I have an extensive data base that is now useless if I can’t update it. What is going on? Will someone from tech support contact me if you read this review?

Handy book cataloguer.
I'm able to efficiently enter and include data of interest on my rather extensive library. I have paid for the annual subscription, but my app has stopped working. Very frustrated.

It used to be fantastic!
I have used the full version for years. Loved how easy it was to use, the clean UI, etc. Now suddenly, it doesn’t work. Unless resolved soon, I will have lost hours of cataloguing of our library. The developer website does not exist any more. No notice of support being stopped. Nothing. It just stopped working. If it is updated/resolved, I will increase my rating to 5 stars. Otherwise, I’d caution anyone considering this app to not download it.

What happened?
I have used this app for many years and liked it fine (could use some improvements but it more or less worked). Now I am receiving an odd message that blocks adding new books saying I can no longer use the trial version (I bought the full version way back when). The option to purchase doesn’t go anywhere. And the help page takes you to a domain that has expired and provides no info. Have they gone out of business? Now looking for alternatives where I can transfer over my significant database. Ideas? Or if there actually is any tech support out there, can you advise?

Help to purchase and my number of books that can be stored?
Finally able to restore the 245 books in my database with all my notes that I lost all of a sudden several years ago. Now I am trying to purchase the annual subscription and cannot figure out the steps to do that. What is the total number of books that can be saved? I had previously purchased the app when it was fairly new, but one day I guess I exceeded the number of books allowed and my database was wiped out. (Just restored the old database from an old iPad backup.) Does anyone know the maximum number of books with personal ratings and notes that can be stored on the annual subscription? Great for large data bases
I have a fairly large data base and Book Crawler seems to handle it just fine that is until now. When I want to add a book I now get message telling me to purchase or restore purchase (I already have an on going subscription). When I click on either of the options nothing happens and I can’t enter another book. I am very disappointed. When I go to the website to ask for help I find nothing relevant as it doesn’t even look like a website for this app.
I sometimes have trouble backing it up to Dropbox as it does seem to take an extremely long time, as it really never says completed but it has backed up.
Hope to continue using this app as the systems for Apple upgrade. Like the features that show I own the book or have read the book. It has saved me several times from purchasing duplicates.

I have been using this app for many years to keep track of my very large library, and suddenly, today, I can’t add any more books because I’m being told that I am only using the trial version! Great app but I have a problem
I have used this app for several years now and have had great success with it keeping track of all the books I own, over 5,000. But today the app will not let me add any more books. A menu comes up when I go to add a book that says I have reached the limit for the trial version of Book Crawler and I need to purchase another version. Almost useless
This would be a good app if it would sync on all my devices. In spite of paying a subscription to sync via iCloud, my Macbook Pro version insists that it has to use Dropbox which I am moving away from.

Better apps out there
I had been using this for years but after the cloud service the app was always asking me to pick which backup I wanted to save, it got really confusing. It should sync all by it self. I tried out Goodreads today and you can type in your author and select all the book you read. It’s much easier. I also found that close to 100 books were missing from my Bookcrawler database. I’m sorry but I had to stop using it.

Good to keep up with books
This app is great having on your phone when you go into a book store you can just scan the back of the books and it will pop up if you already have it! The down side is sometimes it don’t work in certain locations but this doesn’t happen often! I would definitely recommend this app to any avid reader!

Overall good app
I love this for my book inventory! There are some instances where the scanner will stop working, but it’s a simple by closing out the app and going back into it. I wish it was easier to have my data go between multiple devices (using a log in that saves me info) rather than having to frequently use the back up. But overall, a great way to keep track of my books (and to help prevent me from buying the same book over and over again).

This used to be a great app. I upgraded to the paid version, and now it’s a glitchy mess. The ISBN scanner works 2-3 times and then stops working. I can enter maybe 5 books max, and then it just stops responding. Such a disappointment.

Great! A little glitchy

Awkward and Old Fashion
Yikes! I feel like I’ve gone back to pre 2000 apps. The entry is clumsy, the search is nonexistent. I have input 55 books and cannot search for anything but title and author. I have a large genealogy library that needs to be sorted by state or county or region or type. Now I am looking for another app which probably means re-entering everything I have done.

Memory assistant!
I always remember the story and sometimes the title, but I always forget the author’s name. Not anymore! Book Crawler remembers everything. I always add comments- highlighting the story or the writing. If a friend asks if you’ve read anything good lately- you can sort your books by stars and date. I love Book Crawler. You will too.

If you have hundreds, even thousands of books to keep track of, and you want to control and customize (to some extent) the data this is—hands down—the very best app available. Don’t hesitate to get it.

This was a great app...
But lately it seems to have fallen flat. I’ve had this app for years. There was a time when I would scan the ISBN barcode and the info would cover up almost immediately. Title, series, number in series, author, everything. Now I scan and nothing happens. I now have to type in the title and search editions. Whatever happened on this latest release I hope it can be fixed.
Other than that it’s a great app.
Update: rebooting my phone helped some, and I had to go back to all the books I scanned to let the app update them. I still expect better from this app.

Great App for an aging mind!!
Book Crawler allows me to read more books because I don’t start to reread books I’ve already read. Plus, the support is immediate and excellent. I recommend this for anyone and everyone, especially if you tend to read every book by favorite authors as well as a lot of books in disparate disciplines.

Tried Several
After starting with another book database, which is no longer supported, trying several others before choosing this one is the one works best. Wish could also have it in Windows. Would use it both places if I could. Couple of issues (and this is me): would prefer to sort by Author, but it does NOT respond well when sorted by author. Also have issues backing up and downloading to my iPhone.

This app is so useful. I can keep track of all of my books and search for a book when I need to. It helps to make sure I don’t buy the same book twice at book sales. I really like being able to categorize & group the books by different fields. The design is visually appealing as well.

Terrific app & wonderful support
I have used Book Crawler for over a decade and I think it is an outstanding app. It is very customizable, it has great import/export capabilities, and I really appreciate being able to sort and filter my book list on so many criteria. In addition, I recently had an issue with the “restore purchases” function, and the developer quickly responded to my help request and figured out the source of the problem (which was not the app). I highly recommend the app!

New App Format
I have been using this app for many years and it’s great. However, I have to give your most recent update 1 star. At least I think it’s your most recent update. I can no longer get to utilities or settings from the menu to see for myself. There is a book graphic covering those options up. I also am very disappointed by the layout, it is no longer simple to navigate or look up my cataloged books. The book screen layout now only takes up maybe 2/3’s of my phone screen; I can only see 4 books at one time, when before I could see 8-10 books at one time. I kept thinking I needed to change a setting but I can’t even get to those anymore. I’ve read some recent reviews and I don’t think I’m the only person that dislikes the new look. PLEASE consider changing the layout back to the way it was. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it before. Thank you.

Version 7.5 buggy
The latest version of this wonderful app which I’ve used for many years has been apparently been released well before adequate testing completed. It’s buggy on almost every screen. On the top screen, cannot select “Utilities” or lower options because it is covered up by the book graphic. Entry of a book into an existing author doesn’t show up right away. It has to be edited through the book screen to show up in the author’s list. Dragging a finger along the alphabetical key on the right side of the screen doesn’t work properly. Cloud Support
I love this app and convenience of having a mobile inventory of my books. I have this app on my phone, iPad and Mac. I recently purchased cloud support but haven’t been able to figure out how it is supposed to work since there is no real documentation. I received no response to my support request- if documentation were provided and cloud support actually works I’ll change to 5 star.

Needs tweaking
I have been using Book Crawler for years beginning with the original version. Works better than others but last update altered somethings that are annoying. The title of the book, when entering a new book, no longer caps. You have to manually capitalize each word. How did this change? To me the new date method is also annoying. I am using my iPad but that should not matter. Also I would like to be able to edit elements that pop up automatically. I have less success finding a cover that applies to Kindle and audiobooks. Otherwise great.

Somethings wrong.
I have been using this app for several years. I have a very large data base. Something happened along the way in which in changed the last name of some authors. For instance all my James Patterson books got changed to ‘Paris, Private’. Others were changed also. Some titles were also changed to gibberish. If I have to go back and rebuild my database I would rather switch to a different app. I used to love love love this app. I have logged off and back on into the app and on my iPhone. Didn’t help.

Old, slow, inaccurate and misleading
I don’t mind purchasing apps but nowhere could I find this is free for only 7 book entries before you have to pay for an upgrade. That was an annoying surprise because 7 books took me WAY too long (20-30 mins using scan feature) and now it’s a total loss because I won’t be upgrading. Given it’s been a year since an update it would be a waste of money because who knows if there will ever be another update.
I like the idea of of the app. I want a place to catalog and organize my books for teaching and it’s great for that. In fact, I loved the search-ability and simplicity. Unfortunately, it’s dial-up internet slow and the barcode scanner only worked occasionally on newer books (stuff published in the last two years.) Older books didn’t seem to have that problem. I didn’t even have time to check out the other features before the upgrade was demanded. At least I didn’t waste any money. I’ll look elsewhere for a maintained/supported app for my purposes.

This app is easy to use and very keeps track of everything I’ve read. I especially like the actual book cover that shows when you enter a book. I love the bar scan. It takes two seconds.

Clunky Waste of Time
I’m using a new IPhone 11 and the Scanner rarely works. Reads incorrectly when it does. Automatically retrieving data on Classics is a hit and miss so prepare to manually enter darn near everything. It’s nearly impossible to keep track of what has been successfully scanned/loaded and hasn’t as the app seems to temporarily (maybe permanently) mix up your covers and ISBNs, sending your labor of love into no-man’s land while you twiddle your thumbs and hope it finds its way back from the black hole that inhaled it like a veracious beast, and all this hopefully before you meet your Maker! Waste of money!

Good database tool, horrible help.
I’ve used this app for several years, and as a book inventory app, it’s very good. The help function, though, is a joke. Someone needed to spend some serious time and effort and provide detailed help. For ex, can I add a photo of an author if the system can’t provide one? I wouldn’t know. No help there that I could find anywhere.. And the app doesn’t appear to be able to automatically sync between devices, say an iPhone and iPad. No help there that I can find.
Also, the product doesn’t appear to have been updated in a year. Zero bugs? Have we been abandoned?

Best app of its kind
As someone who loves to read and collect books, I often found myself in a dusty old bookstore trying to remember if I own the book that I’m holding in my hand. Or worse, getting home with my prized new book only to find a copy already in my library. Book Crawler has solved that problem. It’s easy to use and I’ve learned to customize the database to fit my specific needs. This is the perfect app for a book collector.

Love this app!
One of my favorite things to do is read books, and I read them in all forms. Before discovering this app, I found myself occasionally buying books that I already owned/had read and it was super frustrating. Just wanted to say this app is fantastic!! The app allows me to organize and keep track of all my books, allows me to put in custom tags (so that I can filter even more), and I love that I can export my books list to a csv file. I brag about this app every chance I get. Keep up the great work!

Great, but needs just a tiny few tweaks
This app is fabulous, but needs just a few simple enhancements.
1. Sort by title, when viewing an author’s books. I have no idea what the default sort order is, but it’s not useful. (Ditto for the search results when searching an author’s book.) When viewing the Book list, sorted by author, it DOES alphabetize the books as I recently discovered! But when I view an author’s booklist, my purpose is to add something new. When viewing the Book list/author sort, it would be oh so perfect if you could click the author’s name to take you to the author’s pane in order to search for and add more books. I wouldn’t think this would require much programming.
2. When viewing a title, be able to click the author’s name to take you the author’s listings. See above reason - to search more by that author, or to see what else you have read.
I’ve used this app for some time now and despite the gripes above, it is definitely one of the best apps on my phone and worth every penny.

Easy to use
It is very easy to add and look up books. The system does seem a bit glitchy though when adding multiple books at a time. The books seems to be listed repeatedly, but in reality they are not. It just takes the program a little to catch up with the new additions. It is also slow to catch up when scrolling through the list of books. This is the only program of its kind that I have used so I can’t compare to the other alternatives.

Money Saver
I’ve had this app for several years, and it has saved me much money by keeping me from buying books more than once. It has, also, saved me time by keeping me from starting a book I’ve already read. Time is too short and there are too many books to read a book more than once.

Some issues
Wish the authors list of books (in my listing and also the searching site)would be in alphabetical order and also in series order if applicable to that author.
Sometimes we have had a problem with losing data when we back up, but can’t identify if it’s the application.
When searching I request English but sometimes I get foreign languages also.
Otherwise it’s a good way for me to identify what books I’ve read and which ones I still need to read.

A bit clunky...
I’ve been looking for a good app to catalogue my book collection. I don’t typically buy large press books or popular/charting books—I collect old, small press, and rare books. This isn’t really what this app had in mind when it was designed.
There are a couple of things I hate. When you select a book, two things happen: the book picture becomes 3-D and looks really dumb. It’s a completely unnecessary effect. Second, the book listing, along with the horrible 3-D book hovers over the top of the screen covering the text underneath. Another weird design decision.
Hope this grows on me cause it appears to be the best option on the App Store...all the others I tried were terrible messes and absolutely not useful.

BEST BOOK CATALOGUE APP! HAS ALL THE FEATURES I WANTED
Catalogued a large book collection. Great search options; it can search by any field I needed: author, title, copyright, genre, pretty much everything. The barcode scanner saves tons of time, very accurate. Love the shelf display! Information from the book’s Edition really helped identify genre, sub-genre and tags. Smooth backup to Dropbox. Easy to print database list from CSV file by email. All in all, I LOVE this app!

Probably not going to buy.
I prefer to see my large collections in a wall mode, it doesn’t look as though this app only shows the books in any other way besides a list. I am also having trouble figuring out how to show a little less information in the main menu. There’s the title and author, along with the ISBN number, year of publication, and if the book happens to be a part of a series, it’ll have that number in there too. That’s a bit too much for me, I’d rather just see the title and author, and if for whatever reason I’d like to see the publication year, I can click on the book itself to see.
Also, ten books is far too low before wanting payment.

An app that saves me money and time
Since I read a lot, Book Crawler is a convenient way to keep and easily access a list of the books I’ve read. When I see an enticing book, I pull out my iPhone and check Book Crawler to see if I’ve already read it— or may want to buy it. Easy!!
The summary I add to Book Crawler after I read a book helps me keep up with a series. It can also tell me if I like this author.

Love it! Only one complaint
I’ve used this app for quite a while. I love it. I rely heavily on the database because I don’t want to lose anything. I back up my data base once a month. I have various successes and fails. Currently, back up and export both work but for the last three months it has failed. This happens periodically. I worry that the data I enter will be lost during the ‘down’ times. Please try to keep this feature up and current.

Fabulous App
This is a wonderful app with the ability to enter books that is easy, and to record them as read with a date. You can then search for them in multiple ways and keep a list of books you haven’t read yet which tells you whether you own them. I love it. My only request is to have it sync between devices. I would gladly pay yearly for that.

Book Crawler
I was delighted when I found Book Crawler. I knew when I came home with books that I had already read that I needed a way to keep track of the books I had read. Because this app uses color to note books that have been read, I also use it to name other books by the author that I plan to read in the future. I love the fact that the app includes a picture of each book and a summary of the story. It also allows you to add information on the book being part of a series. Best of all, Book Crawler is very easy to use.

Great organizer
I love this app because it keeps track of the numerous books I read. And I’m always reading different genres. I’ll start reading a novel, and then think. Oh, novels are awesome. I want more of that. But then I get a memoir and think, oh, memoirs are the way to go! Give me more. Then I’ll read historical nonfiction or fiction, and then I’ll desire to stick with those!

Finally
For a long time I was unhappy with this app it started out good and then just seem to lack support. However, with the last couple of updates the app is running again the way it should and is very easy to use.
I now find that I can give it an excellent rating and him happy that it has been fixed and that I can once again keep track of what I read. Thank you.

Five stars from a longtime user!
Thanks, Jaimie! I have used your app for years—possibly eight years or more—and rely on it to recall each book. I back up the app, of course, and even saved to an excel spreadsheet when ios changes seemed to get in the way a few years ago.
I use this app to find locate digital books I borrow from from libraries, or bought from Amazon’s Kindle, Apple’s iBooks, and hardcopy or paperback books.
Please keep on giving your time!

A few shortcomings...
Support response not happening. Disappointed. Family sharing does not work as advertised. Now considering other apps. I’ve just started using the updated app and really like it. However, the user interface needs cleaning up a bit. The bright blue title font is distracting and the shelf background image does not tile through the entire page. I would like to see a few more options for displaying other details on the list. I could live with a smaller font as well. I’m reserving 5 stars for what I’m sure will ultimately be a professional, more customizable UI. Thanks for an otherwise nice app. I’ll be buying the upgrade to support the developer. :)

Most Powerful Book Database App!
I love that Book Crawler is not only an easy to use book database app for everyday use, but it really shines for those who require advanced searching and sorting, I think, based on a Google search, that even libraries use it! It’s very name “Crawler” reminds me of the database search term “metacrawler”, which is accurate, in that this app provides public library-level search and sort capabilities to expertly navigate your database for those who have large multi-genre collections and past reads. Speaking of libraries, I also love that it can search local libraries for hard to find books and let you know if they are available. That has saved me lots of drive time! It can also show Goodreads reviews for books, though I don’t really use that. Overall, Excellent book database app for novice and expert alike! Highly Recommended!

Read it once
Ever pick up a book and get about 30 pages in and realize you already read it? My wife and i share this app and a simple scan gives the author, title and cover art so you never have that problem again. If you like to read, this is an easy, accurate, must have app.
