I am a long time user of this app. I think I've actually had it as long as WHNT has had an app. I'm very disappointed though in this new version. I do not like that the "message center" is built into the app for two reasons. 1) I signed up to receive the notifications I wanted the way I like to receive them on my iPhone, and when I get a badge notification on the icon it's always "new mail" from the SEC live blog. (Doesn't matter how many times you force me to open it. I'm never gonna care about your SEC live blog, much less read/watch/or listen to it! 2) If you are gonna force us to accept the new "message center", by keeping it as a built in part of the app, give us the option in the settings to turn off these message center notifications without sacrificing losing all badge notifications in my iPhone or give us the option to opt out from getting messages all together. Either way, I want a choice as to whether or not my phone is using my background data and battery life for something I could literally not care at all about. Some people do, I don't. A lot of people don't and don't have a voice to say otherwise since Alabama and Auburn fans seem to always take it to far. For us here in the area that don't care, update the blog through the sports section in your app like all my other news apps new, & give us the option to opt out of it. If my badge icon is on, it makes me believe there has been a breaking news story or bad weather. The other night we lost 16 United States Servicemen and my badge icon didn't even show a single number but yet I have constantly and consistently got them from this "message center" for SEC football.

I understand your trying to make a little money but the number of ads make your app seem like a scam. Also the forced video ads during severe weather broadcasts are really dangerous when seconds count.

We depend on these folks for news and weather! Wish they would only report Auburn sports...but I guess no one is perfect!

We are in a severe storm warning and the app crashes every time I try to Live Stream. This app hasn't worked correctly for a long while now.

19 news is my primary local tv news source of choice. They are often directing viewers to their app for additional info. Often, I don't find what they are noting on the app, or it takes too long. Then if I do find it, and want to share it by "text", usually the "save" button in the upper right corner is blocking me from being able to select the icon. Yes, there are generally other options within the article for sharing. I typically share via text, or email. These other options don't help in that regard. Though one is email, it is an imbedded email service, whereas you have to type in your info, which presumably goes into a database, which I am not desiring to add my email address to. Basically it does not send you to phone email app with the link. If it were to do that, it would also, at least provide me the option to copy link and paste to text, but it doesn't!

I love this app! It updates me on all stories and if I click I can go straight to the story and share wherever I like. This app is awesome!

The WHNT app appears to be in steady decline with each update. Now it seems they have removed the weather section altogether, in an effort to drive users to their dedicated weather app.

Update 01/05/17: latest version has removed ability to share stories directly from App without logging in to Facebook using the app's built-in browser. This is not acceptable. Fix or be deleted.

Decent overall but needs improvement. We need the ability to zoom in on pictures you post in your articles. This would be especially helpful for those where you are trying to identify someone from a surveillance camera shot. It would also be nice if you didn't hide the notifications in the Mailbox area so that you had to go in there and open the story again to clear it. Please fix!

Great app with lots of good content, but it needs AirPlay with Apple TV functionality and Google Chromecast support.

So keeps crashing after about 30sec. Tried restarting, uninstalled and reinstalled.

App doesn't work after update. It closes out every time I try to open it.

All they ask you to do is contact your satellite cable provider to tell them to keep Channel 19.

I prefer to receive my news from WHNT, but sometimes the app is quite frustrating. Many times I find a story that indicates a video is included, but have to search for the video from an alternate source due to absence of play feature on this app. Recently, I find that in the middle of reading a story, the app crashes to my home screen. I hope there is an update in the works.

Perfect news app for what I want to do. Many others are too slow or updating as I scroll. I'm not interested in the videos, just the stories and this app does a good job.

The app works great for me and beats the WAFF's app by a mile. The ads in this app are not intrusive and frustrating in WHNT's app.

You can always count on WHNT to be there for you. Even if you don't live in the Tennessee valley you need this app. :)

Trying to catch the 10 pm weather with severe storms approaching ...live broadcast portion of this app is useless. Freezes up and drops out more than it works...totally missed the wx forecast. Updated version no better than the last. ( positive note: the advertisement at the beginning of the live broadcast plays flawlessly every time! )

Always keeps me informed on up to date news in my area and areas around the world. Definitely recommend

I previously reviewed that this app was worthless. Well, not it is almost worthless. By that I mean, sometimes I can actually read one story or two before it crashes. After repeated openings and crashes, one is able to read the stories. Finally, the app is great in portrait view (when it works) but does not allow switching to landscape view. Guess only made for iPhone - not iPad. Please fix.

I wish I hadn't updated! This used to be my favorite local news app, but now the stories are very large on the screen and it also takes longer to scroll through to a story I might be interested in reading. Very disappointed.

Used to be my favorite local news app mainly due to limited commercials ads. Now, noticed more ads, won't rotate on iPad and just annoying to try and read. - Latest update....still awful and still won't rotate! Next latest update still bad.

The app crashes constantly since the new update started, more difficult to navigate. Not very user friendly, nor is it very compatible with iPad. Somebody needs to rethink this.

Please please go back to your original format!

Not a fan of the new app version. As several others have mentioned, it will not rotate on the iPad and I do not like only being able to see two news items at a time. In addition, it does not refresh unless I pull down from the top and release.

Bad, bad move on this update. Not user friendly at all. Have to use the channel 48 app to find anything. Won't be back anytime soon, WHNT. Sorry.

Back again...tried to give app another chance, but nope. Still hate it. Too many adds! Can't finish reading a news story before it automatically goes to an ad.

The app has been crashing this past week, and I see that there was an update on 7-22-15. I too like the old format, but alas these apps are always changing. Miss the rotation, and the smaller blocks to see more of the news at a glance. Peace!

Crashes frequently and it easy to find articles of interest.

I get the majority of my news from 19 news app. The updated version is clumsy to use. Most of the the the news stories i open wont scroll at all and lock up my screen. To many ads for my liking. Ill give it to the end of July, then i will delete it and try another local news app, which i have never sone before. Rick in Decatur.

The lack of landscape view for iPad makes this latest update a step backwards. Too hard to read comfortably. I'm deleting it.

I have been using this app as my primary news source for the last two years. This latest revision is awful. It requires too much scrolling just to see the stories and ads pop up in the browser for seemingly no reason requiring you to close the browser and go back to the news app. Please bring back the grid that shows all the top stories on one page with a short synopsis and fix the pop up problem. Better yet go back to the previous version. It was way better than this one.

What happened to landscape mode? I'll stick with one of the other local station apps. Let me know when you decide to fix this one.

I never review apps... Until now. The new layout is terrible, plus I have to view it vertically now. Not cool

I dislike the new version of this app. I prefer the previous version of the way it was layout. The view will not rotate on the iPad. I will not be using this app until the previous version is available or another update.

I deleted the app I have had for several years because of pop up ads for war games that there is no way to say no to. It also ask to use my location without a way to say no. Shut the app down just to get away from the intrusive, persistent, annoying, in your face ads.

I really love this app but have recently not been able to get the live feed to work in the mornings. I've missed seeing the news while getting ready for work when the rest of my family is still asleep. Hope this problem is corrected soon.

This app seems to look a little better on a tablet (ipad) then on a phone, as the designs features work better on a bigger screen, but the news is always solid. Huntsville is blessed with two great news apps - this and WAYY using the ever popular doapp interface. WAFF comes in a distant third using to much national news and content that is the same with other Raycom owned Alabama stations (WBRC, WSFA)

I have used the CNN app for a few months, then my son showed me this local news app. I love it! Breaking news seems to come through WHNT app before CNN. I love that you can drill down for even more localized news reports.

I have had some issues with audio on some videos... but I'm sure it will be fixed. But if you want an app for news... especially north Alabama news, this is WONDERFUL!

I don't write many reviews at all, but this one is definitely worth a moment to mention to others.

This app is exactly what I wanted and needed! I can get breaking news fast as well as the weather. The picture and sound quality of the videos is good. I would recommend everyone in the Tennessee Valley to get this!

You guys nailed it with the latest version. All the other local guys better come up with something quick. This is now my go to app for local news and especially weather. Man this thing is great!!

Been using WHNT app for yrs. Unfortunately don't like the latest update (or being forced to update it). This version not as user friendly or streamlined. I get that it "looks" cleaner, with the category folders, but it seems cumbersome to go through the folders to find interesting stories. The weather section is not user friendly at a glance.

Better improvements, but the "watch live" does not work. Never has since I downloaded the app.

The new 2.0 version is MUCH better. You can watch video clips much easier and watch the news live. Very impressed. Lots better than WAFF and WAAY apps.

For a free app, I'm not going to complain. It's pretty basic and straight forward. More content from the website would be nice. A more sleek interface would help out tons.

This morning I pulled up the app and it was full of grammatical errors and typos. If you can't proofread your headlines and news stories, you lose credibility. I have deleted it and installed WAFF instead.

I was so excited to see that our local news had an app! I never get a chance to watch the news, kids take over tv! After downloading the app, I was extremely disappointed! When does it get updated? This is a BIG city, I know there is MORE news out there than this app provides! SO DISAPPOINTED!

At least add a streaming weather link to the website so we can see real-time info on weather events. Streaming news video, too. As the only local Realtor with an app (RealtyHuntsville), I know the challenges of tweaking apps. Good start and I know it'll evolve.

This app is just like having Dan with u all the time. It is faster than trying to load the site on the iPhone. Needs a little work but what app doesn't.

Pros: local news, sports, and weather without having to open a browser and navigate unoptimized web pages. Numerous weather views.

Cons: most news stories listed aren't even local, but rather national AP stories. No pictures or video. Feeds only updated a few times a day. No animated radar. No ability to zoom or change overlays on weather maps. No keys for maps. Unclear when weather data was even last updated.

Good to see them trying...I guess. And it IS free, but my suggestion is to subcribe to the various local RSS feeds in your reader of choice and download the weather app of your choice. Or use Weather Underground's iPhone optimized website.

I KNOW Huntsville has enough out of work computer science folks to do better than THIS!

So many apps are geared toward large cities in other parts of the country. It's good to see one that is right in my backyard. When bad weather rolls in, especially, my satellite signal tends to go down. Hopefully this app will help me get current weather info when that happens. I also get most of my news online, so it's great to get some local news while I'm at it. I would have given this 5 stars if it played video clips or gave real-time audio of the broadcast. Maybe the next version?

It's difficult to rate this app, because it's really going to depend on if you're are in WHNT's broadcast area. If you aren't, this isn't going to be of any interest whatsoever to you. If you are, it's pretty much the best and only option to get North Alabama news through an iPhone app.

It delivers a number of local headlines to you in a manner much more effecient than going to WHNT's iPhone compatible site. However, the navigation is pretty rough and not all news stories make it's way from their site to this app. Also, it'd be nice to be able to view video news stories from this app.

It needs a lot of work, but it's a great start. If you live in North Alabama, it's a great download. If not, it's not really worth your time.
