offline download doesnt save

I have been trying to download the offline content for three weeks already. The internet is unreliable where I live, which is why I would benefit from the offline option, except that when I get to close like 800mb, the download resets. The ISP limits me to 800mb per day and they throttle me if I go over, so I have to wait till i have access again, but then the download restarts.
So for me, I actually haven't been able to use this app.

UpToDates Customer Service is nonexistent!

I was a loyal UpToDate customer for almost a decade, since their inception. As a sub specialist who did locum tenens clinical work, access to medical information was important. Last year, I paid the hefty >$500 fee as an individual subscriber despite the fact that I was now employed by a hospital. My subscription was put on hold because of a $21 bill that took 10 months for the company to clarify: taxes. I paid it and my subscription was resumed for two months then stopped because they said it was time to renew.
Their customer service is awful!!!! Do not use this service!

HATE HATE HATE the stupid mandatory updates.

Frequently get the message "Application Expired: Your Application must be Updated to Continue." These happen frequently. It's usually for 'bug fixes.' Why should we have to update to a potentially new unstable version of app, when subsequent versions have their own problems too?! SUPER ANNOYING to get that mandatory message when you are intending to spend your valuable time searching, not updating (to a potentially non-functioning version). LET US decide when to update!! Mandatory Updates = weak and ignorant programmers' decision; incompetent managerial decision.

It's Alright.

Content is as usual well written and from the good doctors out there but presentation seems very outdated. With increasingly better platforms and NEJM or else making content more intuitive with videos, animations and pictures, uptodate is just pitting all the info out there in looong text format. Need to kick out some old school people taking care of it.
Also the app is alright.
-Basic functions like changing the font size is not there.
- No history button, no resuming from where you left.

Actual doctor says DO NOT BUY!

DO NOT BUY!
The app login process is profoundly flawed. Log in, then leave for just a moment, then return and (guess what) you've been logged off. The site doesn't save your login, and worse yet, the site indicates "bad login" despite your regular use. I have LITERALLY, not figuratively, had to reset my password every single time I have tried to use the app. The online site is not nearly as delicate. No problems logging in there. But I carry my phone, not my laptop.
Been with the website for about 18 months. Only stayed because they have saved some of my CME. When you can actually login, the app site is poorly organized. And NOW, ads cover the site. Sorry guys, but you have failed as an app. Just quit. You are terrible at your job, IT guys.
So you non-medical guys understand: when physicians log in, they expect to immediately have information available. Not only is time essential, sometimes time is a matter of life or death. While no reasonable doctor would ever rely on a website/app to make immediate decisions, knowing that your app presents significant barriers to gathering information will deter any reasonable and prudent doctor from using your app.
I give you two stars because your actual website is useful, but the app is wretched.
DO NOT BUY!

It's good and all but...

I think the information on uptodate is superbly exhaustive and that's all good for any medical staff or student. But the way the information is delivered I'm pretty sure there is a better way. With apps becoming more intuitive and also interactive I'm sure that's what uptodate lacks majorly.
What is needed here is probably a revamp of the existing software and a brand new version with a more interesting and exciting approach at how all this amazing amount of information should be dispensed to the user. Please come up with something, soon. Thanks and keep up the good work.

excellent, though not complete

I am 5 yrs into subscriptions for this, both institutional and individual, and access to both continuously. I have many devices I use it on, both immobile and mobile. I have no relationship at all with the company. I teach people of all types, starting with myself. I have and am a clinician in both academic, institutional, private, individual situations, requiring access at different points of service and, basically anywhere I have WiFi.
pros: ease of access; log of CME; learning tool; very rapid and continuous updates and accurate content. complete accessibility on mobile, laptop, desktop. the mobile app is worth the investment to me, as maximum mobility is required.
cons: I gave this a 5 star. it is human and therefore incomplete. the occasional subject in some specialized areas or subspecialties is not available, though invitations to subscribers to add such is requested. This service is accessible from the modern mobile browsers, therefore the Mobility App payment is just a Plus for those highly addicted to this site. like me.
Can I recommend it to: all clinicians.
Can I not recommend it to: those that want to read paper or a book physically, though printable material is instantaneous if device is connected to printer.

Formatting / UI major problem

I agree with the other reviewers about the significant problem with this update: the formatting / UI looks very amateurish and the app is now much more difficult to navigate and read. Fantastic, what is wrong with these 1-star

I can't believe two reviewers posted 1-star because they get UpToDate for free at work and they don't want to pay for the app? That is because their works PAYS FOR IT, why are they using this as a measure of rating, especially when it sounds like they didn't actually get the app....
For me it has been fantastic as an NP student, and most of the providers I work with use it routinely. The iPad app is really easy to use- if not easier than the website, and has all of the content of the website. 'Nuff said. Please people, review based on the actual program.

Why no institutional access

It's obvious why they haven't included institutional access - If they did, it would shrink subscription sales. They want to frustrate those with institutional access enough (despite the ease through which they could include it), that they end up paying for a personal subscription. Yes - It's ridiculous, but it's their product and they can do whatever that want with it.
As a developer of iOS apps, I can promise that it would take me a single afternoon to add in the feature.

Great app with an individual subscription

I love the persistent log in, which makes the app way more convenient than the browser version. It is a robust application, it includes the UpToDate info that became a main reference in the medical practice as well as medical calculators and pharmacopeia. Extremely useful overall and thus 5 stars.
The subscription is about $225/year if you are in training (student, resident etc)
What I would change to this app if I could:
- I would enable fast app switching, meaning that I would like the app to remember exactly where I left off, as sometimes I would like to go back and forth between the app and the Safari browser while researching topics. Currently I can use the history to retrieve the last topic but that is not good (fast) enough.
- I would make it available to the institutional users as well. Our institution only provides access through the hospital workstations and I'm paying for individual subscription in order to be able to access the info from my iPhone and from home. While UpToDate makes more money this way, I find the price to be quite steep for the convenience; a discounted/free subscription solution for the institutional users would be fair/ideal.

A top-notch medical reference

As a practicing physician in a large hospital-based practice, I have found UpToDate to be one of the best reference sources available. It is in-depth yet easy to read, and it always seems to answer my clinical question when other sources have failed.
A subscription is required to use this app. It is pricey, about $500 (much less for trainees). I suspect this price will limit purchasers to those who are reimbursed for it as a CME item. The subscription includes the app, as well as access to Uptodate from any other browser anywhere. As for CME credit, the program keeps track of your reading history, and you can later submit that list for CME credits.
Some other comments about the app. The orientation of the screen frequently turns 180 degrees, for instance when opening a search box. It is a little annoying. Also, there is no table of contents or ability to browse subjects from within the app. You must search for a specific topic. This is great for answering point-of-care clinical questions, but not so good for educational reading. If these quirks were corrected I would likely give it a 5-star rating. Also, a nice extra feature would be the ability to choose a random subject.
Overall I would recommend UpToDate, if you can afford the subscription. You will find it useful and enjoyable to read.

Excellent and very well done

I was an early adopter and love the mobile app. The creators are very receptive to feedback, and do solicit it often. I personally think an offline access option is not important because I'm always connected, and the app uses little data anyway. (perhaps offline access can be made available as a second option) and in fact I think that would be the answer to the much requested 'institutional support'. (eg a download with no login available to residents and interns ; thank goodness I now have my own login, haha)
The app itself is beautiful, simple to use and just as important retains the uptodate look and feel. I agree with a another reviewer that the app, heck even the PC app, has always suffered from a slightly less capable search function. It needs to 'googlize' itself a bit to make searching for something especially uncommon easier.
Otherwise, this app is exceptional.

Indispensable

I've subscribed for several years and participated awhile back in a users' survey re Uptodate's plans to 'go mobile' with a native app. It looked like we'd have to pay extra for a solid mobile app.
Not the case. Uptodate isn't cheap for a primary care internist in solo practice but I find it's money well spent. Such a nice app with a great, reliable database backing it up. The app developers have been very responsive with building in a complete MedCal formula collection. Full CME credit included with use; fine!
Drug lookup is excellent, but I still prefer Epocrates free version because of drug interaction lookup, not available in Uptodate, apparently.
I may be mistaken (and this facility is present), but it would be useful to offer simple Boolean search modifiers ('AND', 'OR', 'NOT', etc) to allow searching for more complex constellations of symptoms/concomitant diseases.

Good for tracking CME. Need to make it faster

When I first asked them about an app, they replied with a firm no! It's high time they released one. Quite handy although a bit slow on AT&T

Good

It is just the start. I think future releases will address some issues. We need the feature of printing, emailing, bookmarking to work better or to be added. Also, to make content available off line which I think is already in the plans. You are limited to signing it to only two devices. It will be better if it is available for 3 as many do have iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad which are used at different locations.
Overall, it is a good and handy app

A better way to access UpToDate material

A step in the right direction, would be great if no internet connection is needed to access the information. Take note of this UptoDate costumer service.

UpToDate

Very nicely done as far as I can see with one day's usage. Searches are just as easy as when done with a browser, in-app bookmarks, thoughtful resizing methods, etc. An excellent portal to an excellent resource.

UI is excellent, but requires continuous internet access

The user interface is good and the response is fast enough. These are good point of the app, however, the content is not stored in iPhone itself. Previously, Windows mobile version had whole content within PDA after installation, therefore it did not require internet access to read each contents.
To UpToDate team, please consider preparing application for "whole content version".

Expensive but you get your money's worth

This is a great reference tool. The only thing I would suggest would be the ability to do a "word" search on the particular article being looked at. It would make this app an even better point of care tool.

Awesome!! Finally here!!

My most eagerly awaited app is finally here! Love the layout, and the smartly placed 'Summary and Recommendations' tab. Very intuitive, love the fact that you don't have to sign-in every time. Can't wait for the iPad app.

Best Medical App

I've been eagerly awaiting this UTD app, and they did not disappoint! Great layout. Easy and intuitive to use. Bookmark an article with one click, and it goes to a "favorites list." "Summary and Recommendations" button front and center when you open an article.

Needs support for enterprise users

I love uptodate and use it all the time, but the app lacks support for users who take advantage of their hospital or medical school subscriptions. I've already paid for uptodate as part of my tuition, so for now I'll be accessing uptodate via safari on my iPhone. The mobile site is quite good, but I'm sure the interface and functionality achievable with the app is superior.

Ipad version

When is the ipad version of Uptodate coming out?! I have to squint my middle aged eyes to read this version on my cellphone. Overall, the platform is great. I think an ipad/tablet version would be better for viewing the graphs and images. My two cents.
