THE APPLE HEALTH APP INTEGRATION

No customer support response

I have been using this app for almost two years. Recently, after the most recent update, an issue has cropped up where the step counter runs backwards when I start to walk after a pause, losing as many as 150 steps. That's tough.
I emailed technical support to no avail. They have not replied at all to my request for help. There are many other apps out there, e.g., Walker, Argus, etc. Save your money.

Less than satisfactory

I just upgraded to the full version yesterday when my free version only went up to 3000 steps. Needless to say my walk was not over yet. I upgraded to the full version and on today's walk I was averaging 3.8 mph because I know how long it takes me to get from one landmark to another and wants to pace I have to keep. Along the way in the "lock mode" the audible pace noise that sets the tempo would cut in and cut out. As I'm walking and looking at this app the MPH was anywhere from 1.9 - 3.9 mph. At the end of my walk which should have been 1.75 miles it told me I had only walked 1.23 miles at 1.9 mph avg. if I try to put my iPhone 5s in my pocket while walking it would stop altogether! I had to carry it in my hand the whole time during my walk and 8°F weather. It's still cut in and out but was a little better. Another feature I think it should have and does not would be the ability to calculate your distance based on the duration of the walk/run and mph you were walking/running as well as sensing if you are ascending or descending hills. If were going to pay for the full version we might as well get our moneys worth.

Somewhat inaccurate but best app so far

Overestimates distance 3x and speed intermittently jumps to 20 some mph when I jog at 3.5-4mph (set in auto mode). The readings are accurate only when walking but even then sometimes the step readings stop working and then turn back on.
The key is to keep the 'Walk' mode on at all times and stop using 'Auto' or 'Run' mode until there is a fix.
This is the best pedometer app so far I found (you don't have to give your email or personal information etc for joining their 'group' and get junk emails). I do hope the little bugs get fixed.

Better than the average

It records calories burned differently if you carry your phone in your hand versus in your pocket.

Nice & Easy

I like this app for a simple reason: you can use it as simply or as complex as you desire. I need to walk because of a disability, but I'll never run a marathon. Love the simplicity of this app. The display characters are large, easy to read, and not cluttered by a bunch of useless graphics. Once you accurately determine the length of your pace, it is accurate and very easy to use. If you want an app with just the basics, this one hits the mark.

POWERFUL!!!

The best pedometer for the money you can buy. Gives me a lot of information that keeps me on track for my workouts. I did not want to buy a bracelet pedometer, to me they have a kiddie or girly look. A good store pedometer starts around $35 and goes up to just over $100. I also did not know if I would lose interest in a walking routine. So, how far wrong can you go on this $2 investment?

Questionable Purchase

I like the concept. Tracking my steps, calories and miles was great when it was free, it actually motivated me, however once I purchased the app, it no longer worked like it did when it was free. I'm thinking it's on and it's not
Before it automatically did what it does. Now I have to check to see if it's tracking and usually I don't realized until half the day is gone.

Steps great

I've been using this for a couple of years now, does a great job at a basic pedometer for walks, and the improvements they've made to it for being able to switch the screen and do something else and then come back while it's been counting steps in the background is great. Love it.

I recommend this app

Using this app has helped me stay true to my New Year's resolution & I lost 40 pounds, too. I dedicated myself to walking 2 miles every day with my dog & have found different routes & places to walk. The secret is to have your phone or mobile device in a place that will feel the "jolts" or movement of your body. So, strap your phone to your arm or have it in an EMPTY pocket ( I use my back pocket) and let the footsteps add up. Great for counting how many calories you've burned or how many steps you've taken.

Great for beginners only!

This app was awesome when I first started walking regularly. I loved that it tracked everything... Speed, distance, time, calories... Everything you want to know when beginning a new walk/run routine. It challenged and motivated me each time to do a little better than the day before. However, after 6 months NOTHING worked quite right. As my routine progressed and I was running as much as walking, NOTHING was tracked accurately! I would walk for 90 min, it would say 65... I would run more than half my routine, it only tracked maybe 30% at best. Even the distance was way off. The longer into my routine, the less and slower it tracked accurately, which was very disappointing since I had grown to rely on tracking my progress. I've updated, deleted, reloaded, etc and nothing seemed to help. Like I said... Great for beginners. Time to move on!

Love this app...when it works :(

I have yet to figure out why it sometimes doesn't start fresh each day - so i've walked all day long at school, but at 4 o'clock its been tracking for only the past 15 minutes?
Besides THAT, it seems to track well when its on & calorie calculations are much more accurate than the other pedometer's I've used. And tracking the speed is pretty cool too.
I also wish it could share w/ other apps - perhaps that could be next??!! Please!

You almost got a five

I love this app. It keeps a good history and it usually works perfectly. There's one major flaw and I don't know how to report it. It will go for days automatically resetting every morning for me without my having to touch it. Then for no reason it will stop. I can't find any instructions about why it keeps stopping. I'll get halfway through my day and look at it and realize it had stopped again that morning. Fix that it would be absolutely perfect.

Great App!!

I hike the mountains in Phoenix and this has been great to show me how far my husband and I really walk. The only thing I noticed is, I also walk on a treadmill every morning and I have not yet figured out how to synchronize the two exactly. The app is always a little behind what my treadmill says.
I walk 4 miles/hr for 30 minutes and it should be 2 miles, right? The closest I can get the app, with the settings is, 2.2 on the treadmill, before I hear the 2 mile ding on the app.
BUT IT IS A GREAT TOOL for walkers!

Long-time user returns!

I used this app for a long time on an iPod Touch. I experimented with some other accelerometer-based pedometers but usually came back to this one. When I got an iPhone, I started using GPS-enabled apps to track outdoor workouts (running and cycling) but still wanted something else to track steps in everyday life. I was using an app that used GPS in combination with the accelerometer for a while and liked that it could run all day in the background (so I could set it and forget it), but I didn't like the way it used up battery power. Another app used the accelerometer only and would also run in the background, but it didn't automatically detect pauses. Footsteps always detected pauses but for a long time only ran in foreground. So when I saw that the latest update enabled running in background, I was happy to download it again. A couple of improvements to setting step length and step sensitivity would make the app a little better, but this is pretty good. Thanks for updating this!

Needs update

This app needs some fine tuning.
I cannot manually save my "trips" at all, so I can only follow my progress through the manual view. Frustrating.
The music feature needs some work. I could not get mine to just import certain songs, instead I had to opt for my entire iPod list which left me changing songs a lot. & lastly, I just upgraded my phone & none of my history saved of transferred to my new phone. We are talking over 2 years of history, gone.
Please update this SOON!

Pretty decent

I have enjoyed using this as part of my workout and have found it to be very accurate when running around a track. You do have to do some set up to get proper results for yourself. My complaints would be that the auto walk/ run feature does't always work resulting in walking calculations after a run or vice versa, and it also stops calculating when phone goes into sleep mode. I now manually switch the walk/run mode and constantly check my phone to make sure it hasn't gone into sleep mode.

Great app

Interface is very professional looking and is intuitive to use. As long as it is in my pocket - rather than my belt clip - it counts steps fine. I am more likely to walk when I can keep count of the length and now I always have a pedometer with me

Need better instructions

like this app

I like this app. I use it on an iPod Touch. It seems to be most accurate on distance walked but not necessarily on steps taken. I can walk the same distance two days in a row and the distance walked doesn't change but I will have a different number of steps each day (maybe that is correct, but I don't feel that my stride changed). If I put my iPod in a phone case on my hip, the steps walked both days match more closely than the days when I drop the iPod in my pocket.

Footsteps - Pedometer

Works really well most times. All features seem to work fine. I have had a problem with it not waking up and recording walking and I had the screen lock on. It is possible that I pushed the phone sleep button after I hit the lock screen on the app. I will have to be careful not to do that.

Very Useful

I have been using this app for over a year. It gives a pretty accurate measure of distance and speed when compared to the high end treadmills. Very good app

I have been using it for some time and I am very pleased with it. I must say, I was reading all those bad reviews and I started with another pedometer rated much higher but was not happy with it so I gave this one a try. All the features work like advertised, the readings are accurate. I recommend this app to everyone looking for a good non gps pedometer.

Not all it's cracked up to be...

Great apps are in the little details that make the difference. I have been using the app for 14 days straight. I have walked the same path every day and the numbers don't add up. I understand that I will not walk the exact amount every time but there are a lot of things that don't make sense. Lets start with what works. The timer. The step counter is fairly consistent considering I walk at different paces so the number of steps will be different. Here's where it gets interesting, Distance. Depending on the given day I had walked anywhere from 1.79 miles to 3.2 miles over the same route. The most interesting aspect is the final day of the test I walked the route as fast as I could. I cut 10 minutes off my time but the speed of the walk was slower than any other walk and the average speed was almost half of my regular speed walks.
The history aspect is also irritating. Some days the session is saved like you would expect. The date & time of the session. Sometimes the session will save over a 24 hour period from the stop time of the previous session & the start time next session.
Hopefully these issues for me can be resolved. Until then I'll be looking for a better app.

Elegant screen, easy to use

Great app, starts working right after download. Easy to use, elegant screen, well thought out application. Recommend any time for folks seriously interested in getting some calories burnt regularly.

Lost steps

In general, I like this app. However, today when I started it up late in the day, I wasissing over 6000 steps. The numbers physically dropped by that amount. It wasn't just missed steps by the app. I didn't have any kind of iPhone glitch, so i don't know why it dropped so many steps. Fortunately, i had just checked my count before the glitch, so i know how many steps were lost
So beware and always know your approximate count so you can add to it if you are keeping track on your own.

Happy with it

I've tried this app on my two mile walk and it was pretty accurate, the distance was only 20 feet off which is a really small error. Didn't experience any crashes and I was listening to the music during the walk. Charts look promising.
I'll try it more during the weekend but so far so good.
I recommend it.

Useful

This is a decent app. I use it to monitor my walks and runs and it works great. I'm usually out for 2-3 hours and found this app to be very accurate. On iPhones it's also pretty gentle on the batteries. I usually run Footsteps, turn on the music and put my iPhone in the pocket or a case so the screen turns off.
It's well designed and easy to use. Well worth its price. Thank you

Needs improvement

The screen is constany flickering on and off, especially when I try to add things to my playlist. I've tried restarting the app and my phone, and it doesn't help.
I agree with others that the app needs to count steps throughout the day, even when the user is doing other things, like talking or texting. I would like to track my steps throughout the day; otherwise, what is the point of having a daily vs. manual mode?
I do like the display and all the information it contains. I'm not sure how accurate the calorie counter is though-- even after I entered my weight it didn't change, and there's nowhere to enter height and sex, which does factor into calorie burning.

Simply wonderful

I love this application. It allows me to beat my activity from the day before or the month before. It has helped me to shave off a few unwanted pounds that my 30 min walk per day just wasn't doing before I started using this application. I do wish I could talk and receive text and it would continue counting. Also wish it had a weight component. However, it ha been wonderful thus far.

Love this app!

The only thing us I wish it could track my steps without the app having to be open all the time. If you get a phone call while walking, it doesn't record your steps while you talk. You can, however, listen to music in your iPod while the app records how far you've walked. All In all, I love it. Footsteps has been really helpful thus far in losing weight. :)

I LOVE THIS APPLICATION

This is the first application I paid for since buying my iPhone back in August. It is straightforward, super easy to use and accurate. I just pop it in my waist band of my waist snipper or bra and walk. It has a cool ticker to keep you on pace and keeps history to keep you motivated. I haven't even tried to use the music and other features, but will in the future. If you are iPhone challenged like me, this is the one for you. :)

Great App for walking

Love th fact u can make your own music playlist to walk to!
Just wish it would not stop when a text comes thru. I can understand when a call comes in but those asside thois is a VERY ACCURATE APP to walk too. Just have to fine tune the gauge to set it for walking. Once it is set right it is spot on.

Best one out of the few for me.

I like the high contrast color option that is new, but wish font size was larger. This appgives you both steps made and how many miles traveled on one display, just wish it ran in the background whilde looking at a map.

I Like It!

This app does just what it says. You can listen to your earphones but not the speaker. If you take a call, it will pause the app. I uesd for 3 days for about 2 hours each day, it only used about 20% of the battery each day, while listening to music. GPS would be better but it would really drain the battery. Not sure about backing up the history data...Only wish you could walk and talk on the phone at the same time. Otherwise, good job!

A solid pedometer

I was looking for a pedometer for my iPhone since I have it on all day anyway. Even though this one only had a few reviews, it seemed to have all the features I wanted. Simple, straightforward, easy to use. It works well with counting walk steps and is very accurate. I have not tried it running. The developer gives very clear instructions about how to use the iPod function because none of these apps can run in the background. What no one points out is that if you get a text or phone call while the pedometer is working, it stops counting. You need to remember to restart it after the call. That is apparently an inherent issue with all these types of apps. For that reason, I give it 4 instead of 5 stars. But it does what it says. Worth the 3 bucks.

Pretty good

I like this app so far. I've tested it several times and it is accurate (not more than a step off count). I had no problem running iTunes in the background on the touch. Reserved 5 star rating for after using it a little more in the near future.
