It’s a lot of fun for myself and my kid.

Downloaded this, knowing the risks based on the past reviews. However, I can’t say I’m disappointed. This was honestly an amazing app and it’s really fun too. The developer clearly listens to his users because even after a review said the sounds stopped working the sounds are now working again. Perfect for any Treckies 🖖

Very amusing fake application
I’ve used this application to make a point on a few occasions, including to several years ago when I proved to my 8 year-old daughter that I could detect how many cookies she ate. Two problems exist with its use on OS15: (1) Emergency function no longer launches count animation and (2) there is no sound and nothing to adjust under Settings.

Fun tricorder app
It has one bug that kept me from giving it 5 stars. The emergency data upload button no longer shows the upload video/animation. Otherwise everything else works.

Still good today!!
I still use this app all these years later! It’s an amazing app and the only thing it needs is a phone case that looks like a “Quadcorder” back! All the sounds are perfect and the different functions use the actual sensors in the phone to give you somewhat relevant values. Worth every penny!

Literally just light and sound
Doesn’t actually use any of the iPad or iPhone built-in sensors. Just lots of blinking lights and effects. I assume it has sounds too, but I didn’t bother checking. Disappointing, especially for $2.

As a kid I always wanted to have one but they were to expensive for me. Now for 1.99 you can have a even better one lol. I just had to have it. I had to gift my inner child in me.

Very, very disappointed!
I saw a demo of an iPhone app of the TR-580 medical tricorder on YouTube. It looked quite good as it had a library function that actually accessed the internet. And it had all the familiar sounds of the tricorder on Star Trek.
This Quadcorder does next to nothing. The library function, when pressed, only beeps. And it does no use the same sounds the ST tricorder made when in scanning mode.
Sad that this app does far less than the app seen demonstrated at YouTube by Ben7seven7 dated August 13, 2012.

What happened to the communicator. It doesn’t work with the new iOS
I tried to update the communicator and it said it wouldn’t work with the new iOS. Can anyone tell me why that would be. So I ended up buying this quad quarter thingy. How lame is this somebody tell me what the Hells going on here give me my money back!!!

Does nothing
At least most of the other tricorder apps have the LCARS look and some functionality, this has neither. Also comes muted and only plays if you unmute it with the speaker icon next to the emergency button. Sadly, pretty useless. Doesn't even have a good LCARS look for wallpapers

Best Next Gen Tridorder Yet
A wonderful app, looks, sounds and feels authentic. CBS did a great job with the Communicator and the PADD, but this is the only Tricorder worth its name. Grab a Phaser and you're ready for the away team.

Not as cool as the TR-580 mkIII, but still cool
The only thing that doesn't work like it did before is the library channel button, it no longer switches the inputs of the three main categories. But hey it's OK I know it's not really doing anything. It was just cool when it cycled through before.
I know! It's just a toy noisemaker. If you do not TOTALLY DIG Star Trek: The Next Generation/Deep Space Nine, then DON'T BUY IT.
I just like the starfleet-style buttons and menus.
The other "Tricorder" - the TR-580 mark III, is another 99-cent app, but it DOES locate you on a map and even finds other TR-580 users. It even connects to Trek Memory Alpha wiki and allows you to look up cool Trek stuff.
This app, is more a facsimile of a Tricorder, it has absolutely no functions and it is called "iScanner" just do the developer won't hafta send part of his income to CBS. (Or have CBS force them to take the app out of the store which has happened)
I actually like the graphics in this one much better than the TR-580.
Also, if you are looking for info about Nikolai Tesla, you are NOT EVER gonna find it in the iTunes app store! Go look him up on Wikipedia... Plus you were stupid enough to download this app even after seeing it had nothing to do with Tesla? THAT RIGHT THERE one stars YOU, NOT the App!
Actually, I've seen this "Tesla" fellow 1-star about 20 other apps for the same reason: which just goes to show, they ought not own an iPhone. The Apple App Store is not an information exchange you cannot find information about Nikolai Tesla in here. This is for reviewing apps. The only app that might have information is called Wikipedia, look it up!

thie app is great almost as good as tr 580 it needs to look and sound more like a star trek tricorder but for a buck its well worth it. its a toy but for star trek nuts like me its great. if you have the tr 580 you need this one as well buy this app. Fantastic thanks for the update looks great this is a definite keeper.

Great news
Not only did this app just get a compatibility update so it doesn't crash on iPhone 6s Plus but it has full screen support and some new features. It looks fantastic and I am glad this app is still supported because it really is one of the best tricorder apps out there.
I would have been happy with just the crash fix but this was a great surprise to see a full upgrade. Thanks for that extra effort.
Crossing my fingers that kscanner gets the full screen treatment next. And possibly a fix for the volume issue. The one where it's always at max volume regardless of how loud you have the speakers set to.

Best 99 cents spent, ever!
Great app, just like a Star Trek Tricorder.
Just remember to turn on the background scanning sound.
To do this, go into your iPhone settings, then general, then scroll down to the iScanner app. Select it, and now slide the switch to turn on "Background sound ".
Now have fun !

Best Star Trek Tricorder
This makes you feel like you're on the set of Star Trek; clicking buttons and "taking readings." My only complaint is that they haven't updated the screen size ratio for iPhone 5s's.

This is great, if you're looking for a tricorder sound maker from Star Trek tng, this is it! Make sure to go into general settings and turn on background sound so you get the scanning sound. The 99 cents is well worth it. You're just tapping the screen but it's way better than that cookie game.

Realistic beeps and boops! Lots of animations! A big red button that is endlessly entertaining! Even for a TOS fan like me who has yet to see TNG or DS9!
How does it work? It's up to you. It's YOUR tricorder, after all... And the best beeping 99-cent toy you'll ever buy.
One suggestion: It would be really cool to have an 'off' button- so you can have a tricorder with no beeps, whirs, or flashing lights but then you press a button and everything comes to life. I understand how this is difficult, but were it possible, this would make THE BEST UPDATE EVER!!! SO AWESOME!

This an awesome app I recommend to all Trekkies. Should add more screens, make them interactive and have one where you connect conduits to complete a cycle or something like on star trek elite force 2. Please take these in mind and really awesome app.

Great fun! Now let's make it real!
I love the app when I want to go to that one little special imaginary spot where I can imagine this thing is real! But why not design a more realistic, less cartoon type of real tricorder that I can keep as my main iPhone app. This app would do everything from the best weather readings, to real news, to conversion tables, a recorder, a camcorder, of course a great camera, what about a noise decimal meter, EMF meter, an auto mobile level meter...I mean man make a tricorder that centralizes daily important info in one place in a fun spacey futuristic fun to access lights and bells app with real info I can use! A TV guide, maybe encyclopedia that would make Spock happy! A police scanner maybe, high intensity flashlight! I mean c'mon guys, here's your million dollar idea, you could run forever with this on updates and maybe officers models or special personalized within the program contrived conversation, or a simulated self aware Unit like your able to respond, and talk to your tricorder like a handheld "Kitt" from Nightrider! MAKE ME A REAL TRICORDER! And make yourself some money!

This is a toy, and it works great. Of course there's an app for making your phone into a tricorder to play with. It's this one. Why give it one star because it doesn't actually do genetic scanning, stupid?! A retina update would be peachy; otherwise this is great!

I just purchased this review and after about two minutes of playing with it I already want my dollar back. Only four of the buttons are tied to the tiny display and the sound effects remind me more of a cheesy cash register than anything from Star Trek. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't buy this app.

False advertising
I wanted apps about the most underrated scientist of all time, namely, Nicola Tesla. This app was one of the apps that appeared when Tesla's name was put into the search in the app store. So what if a lot of what is shown on this phony tricorder comes fro Tesla's ideas. I never wanted a pretend game to be a pretend scientist. The putting of this under Tesla only to find it is a game is fine for those, really great as a matter of fact to stimulate the much needed imagination. All well and fine. But, to make anyone think one is going to actually learn more about Tesla, when all it is is a fancy Star Trek Game, is not only gross mirepresented advertising, but as William Shatner used to say to overzealous Star Trek fans: "Get a life!" All of you candy brained non-thinkers: Read all you can about Tesla, especially the autobiography of Tesla. Then you'll really be saying: "wow!"

You can't buy a 99 cent piece of plastic half as awesome or entertaining as this. It is exactly what a toy should be. If some more functionality, like a scanning mode tied in to the camera, or a working decibel meter, was integrated, i would not complain. But I am not complaining anyways. I researched both prominent tricorder apps, and this one was the right choice. It looks, feels and sounds just right. I don't want a tricorder for a star trek fan, I want a tricorder for a starfleet officer.

Very satisfied, but also have a suggestion
Very cool app. I really like it alot! It was worth the .99 cents. The only thing I would suggest in the next update is have a layout and screen setting like star trek voyager's mark x tricorder. Now that would be awesome!

1.4.1 Still Needs Work
I am raising my previous 3 star rating up to 4 stars with this 1.4.1 update. I am happy we now can switch back to the previous screen style, as I prefer it much more. I still can't do anything with the GPS and decible screens with my 3G iPhone, the numbers are just randomly changing when I switch between them. So I don't think the phone's sensors are having any effect.

Keeps getting better
I was surprised to see this app now contains some actual functioning features. Even though the decibel feature simply freezes on my non jailbroken, non unlocked 3GS, the location feature and the magnetic feature work just fine. Keep up the good work!

**Don't let the "one-star" person's "review" deter you from this app. It does exactly what you would want this type of application to do...it makes you smile. It is far better than the other tricorders offered. Sometimes the most simple things can be the best.
My only suggestion is that you add the word tricorder somewhere so that this app will pop up when people search for it.

Great App
Completely useless, but great. It's way more fun to play with than some of my very high end replicas and studio props. For what it is, definately worth $.99. Fun enough to actually write my first review. If you read these keep the updates comming!

im a geek - i admit it
I think the iphone is an awesome piece of technology and kinda 'star trek'ish. This app just confirms it! It's just the coolest app I've come across. It has excellent graphics! The sound is awesome; all the buttons beep when pressed and the scanning sound is continuos with no broken loops. There are 9 different scanning screens - 3 for each scanning category; GEO and MET, BIO. This app actually makes me think I'm holding a very highly detailed studio prop. It's perfect for a true trek geek - the only thing missing is the flickering lights along the top rim of the iphone casing. I just cannot believe this app is only $.99!!!!! WHAT A BARGAIN!!!!!!! Thanks Adam McElhaney for creating such a fun app!!!!

One thing that's missing though is the scanning sound. It would be great if one of the buttons triggered a loop of the tricorder scanning sound. I think that would make this app perfect.

The one stars are dead wrong it's a great app I drool to think what else he will add as he is the first to hit it on the head and make the best tricorder app so far. I just wish the other tricorders out there would take a lesson from this app. Do the best you can the add more. Well worth more than a dollar

Just what I was looking for.
Being not only a huge Star Trek fan but also a replica collector, I tried in vein to give into my money spending ego and purchase a Next Generation Tricorder for $400. The reason why I didn't was because not only was the replica $380 more than the playmates toy version, but it also lacked the features that the old toy came with. Like buttons that go beep!
After spending the better part of a year with my iPhone living off of a website based Tricorder that's specifically molded to fit into the screen of your iPhone, I finally stumbled across not one, but six tricorder like applications on iTunes. Going through video demonstrations and reviews, iScanner Tricorder is without a doubt the best of the bunch. Not only does it replicate the busy look of an average Star Trek tricorder, but it also replicates the interactivity that you would expect from the shows and movies.
Some buttons you press make a beep noise while others change the animation screen. These sounds are bound to the buttons so you can make the beeps go in any order you want and let your imagination do the work. It's also nice that it has settings added to it as well like the ability to turn off the noise a Tricorder makes when it's on leaving only the button noises. It also makes for a great screen saver to make your iPhone look really busy and high tech while it's getting charged.
Highly recommended and very fun to play with.

Great simulation!
This app is by far the best Tricorder app as of January 2009. It's the ONLY one with decent sounds similar to Star Trek TNG, including scanning. I hope they can add a medical screen like a human body outline an perhaps some more functionality like changing scan noise with button press. Great work though!

Best Tricorder App in the ENTIRE STORE!
Totally worth it!
I don’t know what the guy who gave a one star reviews problem was, but the other tricorder he is talking about is horrible! This one is great! Much better than any other tricorder I have seen. If I could get my money back for purchasing the others, I would. This iScanner Tricorder is the way to go! Trust me!
I can't wait till the update comes out! I have seen the video of it on the developer site and I eagerly waiting!

Fun, nostalgic app for the inner nerd.
It shouldn't take much to know what this does. It's meant to be novelty. People who demand too much from a $0.99 app (case in point, a 1-star review found in the reviews... can't miss it) should stop making unnecessary suggestions and develop a similar app and charge more, if they can make one better. I think the app is great just the way it is.

I downloaded this application because it looked similar the tricorder from star trek. It is really cool. The sounds aren’t exactly like the one from star trek but are really close. The buttons make noise and the screens are animated and change when you press the bio, met, or geo buttons. Definitely worth the 99 cents!
