Description

TripView displays Sydney and Melbourne public transport timetable data on your phone. It features a summary view showing your next services, as well as a full timetable viewer. All timetable data is stored on your phone, so it can be used offline.
Features:
- View times for any saved trip with a single tap
- Real-time delay information and vehicle map (Sydney only, subject to data availability)
- Trackwork and service interruption information
- Interactive maps (create your trip by clicking on your station/stop)
- Alarms (arrival/departure, time/distance)
- Multi-modal trip editor (customise exact change locations / lines)
- View your favourite trips on Apple Watch
Realtime data is available for the following operators:
- Sydney Trains (Sydney metro area only, excluding Waterfall and the T6 Line)
- Sydney and Newcastle Buses
- Hillsbus, Forest Coach Lines, Busways Blacktown, Transdev North Shore
- Sydney Ferries
- Sydney Light Rail (excluding stops between Exhibition Centre and Central)
NOTE: Best efforts are taken to ensure timetable accuracy, but no guarantees are made. If you find an error in the timetable, please email contact@grofsoft.com with details.
Alarms require iOS4 and a device that is capable of multitasking. Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

What's New in Version 5.2.4

- Minor real-time data fix: If two stops were scheduled for exactly the same time but the bus was delayed in between them, the delay for the second stop was being incorrectly applied to both stops.
- Upgraded to Dropbox API version 2.

Awkward and difficult to figure out

I travel a lot and use transit and transit apps all around the world. I found this one unusually complicated. This is great for people who take the same bus every day. You create a trip and save it, then all you have to do is click on that trip for real time info. Fantastic. For a tourist who doesn't know the area it's a nightmare to use. What I wanted was an app that would pop up with a map, I'd click on the stop I was at and see when the next buses would arrive. If it's possible with this app, I didn't figure out how to do it. In the end, I was usually able to get the information I needed, but it required lots of keystrokes, and you would have to know your general destination. Please make one where you can just put in a stop number and see the real time arrivals. For visitors, I would rate this as way too complicated, for locals it's going to work well assuming you travel the same basic routes.

Finally sync!

The best of the transport apps finally closed the loop on the last great missing feature! You can now sync trips across devices. Thanks!

Best transit app I’ve used

Best transit app I’ve used. Very simple and clean. I used it extensively in Sydney from 2012-2014 but have since moved away. Wish there was a transit app anywhere near as good for other cities.

Awesome watch app!

The  Watch part of TripView is fantastic. It gives me exactly what I need in the glance and upon launching.
The distance sorting and auto-reversing allows the watch app to nearly always show me the train I want to take -- based on where I am and my saved routes.
Very thoughtfully done.

Makes bus and trains usable

I *could* use google maps. But this app truly excels in point to point trips. i.e. this station to this station without transfers, which is what I use it for. The "bookmarks" help greatly for this. I use in Newcastle and Sydney. For transfers, I supplement with google maps.

App of the Decade

Update: several years later and I still use this app daily. It's the reason to own an iOS device in Sydney. This is seriously the most practical and useful app I own, and it works great.
OP: If you live in or are traveling to Sydney, this is a must have application. I'm surprised that the developer hasn't adapted it other cities as well.
It's seriously amazing.

Useful though

Sometimes the timetable is not very accurate for some buses, eg M41 on weekend.
Very useful if u want to go to places you are not familiar with. Use it with GPS so u will never get lost and u know where u should press the bell or get off. Good job!
I need different colors to indicate different routes! Plzzzz consider that

Simply Superb!

For me, this is THE most useful app on my iPhone. I rely on public transport to go wherever I need, & it is just so incredibly useful to be able to quickly check when I have to get to the bus stop or train station to catch my bus or train. The bus route map is also incredibly useful : no more asking around if bus 123 will go to Parramatta or not. Personally, I would have been happy to pay even $100 for the app, and at $3 it's an absolute bargain.

Nearly perfect

This is the most useful app on my iPod Touch. It works offline, and will also work through multiple stops (including busses, trains and ferries) and includes accounting for missing the closest connection at that given stop on the way. It only has one downside and that's the map access. Updating the city/stop map when offline (as is the case of the iPod Touch when on foot) is extremely limited. If it had its own build in map of the Sydney area, it would be absolutely perfect. But as it is it is definitely worth the purchase.

times off.

Beware- some of the train times are inaccurate. This makes it very difficult and annoying to schedule a trip. It's been happening since the previous release. Please fix.

A great app - keeps getting better & better

This is a must have app for commuters & travellers in Sydney. It's well designed, has lots of well thought out features and the attention to detail is terrific.
The new version has train platform numbers now - thank you so much! I now know which platform to dash to. And the service interruption alerts are great too.
It would be ambitious but including all private ferry & bus network timetables would make this a 10-star app!
It's shameful that the state transit authorities didn't develop something like this first but kudos to the developer for filling the gap.

Excellent, amazingly helpful

The only thing that I wish was different is the availability of platform numbers.

Fabulous

I moved to Sydney from the US to live and work here. This app is used on almost a daily basis. I highly recommend using this if you plan on spending any time on Sydney public transportation.
