Hands down best inch calculator on the App Store

I have tried several different architectural calculators and this one is still my favorite for years. Only thing I would like to see added is a history view option, which would make it even better.

I love the function of this app... I haven't found anything else that does fractions as well. After some recent bug fixes, this is back to 5-stars. I wish there was a desktop version.

Great app, but has a glitch

On the iPad the landscape view never starts up right. I asked them about it it almost 2 years ago, and they acknowledged that it was a problem but they still haven't fixed it. I've asked them several times... Poor service of their part.

THE calculator for Architects

This calculated replaced the old Measure Master that sat on my desk for decades. The rotate for additional functions is a great feature - allowing simple calculations in portrait and additional options (units, conversions, etc.) when rotated to landscape. My only two complaint's are: I wish they'd update the look for iOS 7, and I wish the buttons on the landscape screen where slightly larger targets.

A great time saver

Having grown up in Europe it's baffling to me that the architecture and construction industries in the U.S. still rely on feet and inches. But instead of fighting an uphill battle, I got with the program and bought the InchCALC app. Now with the app, calculations involving fractions are just about as efficient and painless as decimals and the metrics system.

I have all the Pro apps, and use this the most.

Over the last 2 or 3 years, I've purchased (usually for $5 to $20) every "pro" construction or carpentry app I found that looked like a good possibility.

Because I have gotten used to doing a lot of the work in my head and visually, this is the app I go to the most for computation. I'm trying to clear out my iPhone, because of running out of space (too many apps), and I reviewed all my DIY app yesterday. Without studying the instructions again, inchCALC+ is the only one I can pick up and use without delay (read: "no learning curve"). If you are already using the hardware version of Construction Master on a daily basis, great. Otherwise, inchCALC+ is definitely the ticket for us mere mortals, VERY GOOD JOB!

[v1.7.1] Latest update does not download from the app store on this iPhone 3GS. An err msg appears stating the app is no longer available.

[v1.6.1] Cute... But not a true professional tool. Lacks copy & paste function in display. No constant storage or memory.

Not for carpenters

I've had the free version and finally got the full version. I'm a carpenter and have always used a builders calculator for figuring roof pitches. I was very dissapointed that this app does not give you the pitch conversion in inch increments( ie 10 on 12). Instead it gives you a pitch in degrees. Totally useless for what I use it for.

Awesome!

I work with pavers, patio stones, and retaining walls, building displays, and teaching the DIYers how to build correctly. This is so much nicer than my regular calculator, and the interface is simple. I always have my phone with me, and the $4.99 price tag is easy on the expense report. This is going to save me a ton of time and money. I would go so far to say that it's worth hundreds of times the price tag.

Love the app, but how about an update? Had the app for 3 years - where's the iOS4 update/bug fix (doesn't save in memory after closing, always opens with a random number showing, Retina icon, etc)?? Please update, then back to 5 stars.

Handy Calculator

I've always wanted an inch-foot calculator, but just thought it would get lost or buried under the piles of stuff on my desk. Also, they're a bit pricey. The iPhone version is great- I always know where my phone is and it's not another gadget taking up space. I use it regularly at the office when checking dimensions. Recommended!

Great tool for use in the field or office

This is a must for engineers, designers, architects, contractors, tradesmen or anyone working in construction related services. InchCALC+ replaces the expensive calculators which perform the same measurement functions but many times the cost. The best part is that it's on my iPhone along with other utility apps that I use in the field. I am an electrical engineer working on commercial and industrial projects and I use this tool often. I highly recommend it.

iPad,next to my CAD station

This is just one of many apps on my iPad that adds to my efficiency when working on design projects. A foot/inch calculator comes in handy in the office and in the field. Having it on the iPad means one less pricy gadget to haul around and misplace, lose, or loan out and never see again. I highly recommend this app to other architects, and to engineers, builders, and anyone working with dimensions in feet and inches.

Crashing on 4.0

Love the app. But a there a few problems with the program....... I just updated and can no longer use the app. Because it won't open with the 4.0 update..... And the right angle solver is not so great

I bought this app for one purpose, to solve right angle problems. It doesn't work! I complained when it bought the app and I'm complaining again. I see that I'm not the only one with this problem. Seems that anyone who needs to cut a roof needs to use their construction master or framing square. Do you think you geniuses could look into this before you you retire on all the profits you make on us unsuspecting victims?

Nice!

Nice app, but the calculator in landscape mode is too small. A 2x button blows it up into a blurry image where you can see the pixels. The developers obviously took a shortcut in adapting the app from the iPhone to the iPad.

Please give us a normal size, clear calculator in an update...

Thank you River Studio! This is the Goto App for anyone who uses common tape measure dimensions. And, for anyone who needs to convert measurements between the METRIC & IMPERIAL systems. It's on my iPhone & with me whenever I need it so I can "measure twice & cut once" with even greater confidence.

This is a great tool. A construction calculator with these features would cost at least $60. I always have it with me when I unexpectedly need it, unlike the calculator sitting on my desk at the office when I'm out and a client calls with for some trouble shooting.

Big waste of money when you up grade to the + version. Not enough difference in functions to warrent 4.99 charge.

Great, get if you're a framer

Complete substitute for construction calculators for me, finding areas, volumes, diagonals, entering lenghts in feet/inches, finding rise if you have pitch and run or vice versa. The big difference for me is that u have to enter the pitch in degrees. Pretty easy to deal with, but that should be changed, put a switch on the settings screen, so u can switch pitch from degrees to inches so that I can type "2" "inch" "pitch", and the pitch stores as 2/12 pitch like on the construction calculators.

I love it though, 99% as good as the calculators for 10% of the money.

I know people that use the stair functions and roof functions too, y not add those too, seems like it would be ez

Great Idea

This calculator is very useful for me, I have a regular one I use for this at my desk. It would be great if there was a way to turn of the clicks. It would be nice if in the vertical calculator there was a way to delete the last numbers without having to clear everything out with "C". It would be great if the buttons could be a little bigger, they are tiny in the horizontal mode. With the buttons closer together in the vertical mode one could easily fit another row of buttons on the top (like the CE, x, +/-, % row of buttons). Thanks!

Inchcalc+ - fabulous tool

A few years ago, my son gave me a handheld carpentry calculator. I loved it, but I like this app even better. The UI is incredibly well thought out and the feature set leaves little to be desired. Comparing past reviews with complaints of deficiencies with the app as it stands now, it is also clear that the developer is quick to respond to suggestions. I'll be thinking very hard to find a reasonable needed improvement as I continue to use this tool for my projects. If only all iPhone apps were of this quality and value!

Needs some help!!!

There is a big problem that needs fixed in this app. I am a framer and have a construction pro calculator and one of the most common used features is the RUN, RISE, DIAGONAL. Well most of the time you need to get the RISE when all you have is the RUN and the PITCH. So you enter RUN, PITCH and it should give the RISE. Well this doesn't work on this calculator. If you enter the RUN, RISE it will give you the PITCH, but most of the time you already know the PITCH but need the RISE,,, PLEASE FIX.... and will give FIVE STARS. THANK YOU.

I find this apps potential to be quite extensive. The only problem is that I took Calc, Trig, and Algebra over 25 years ago. Can you add more examples to your website? Maybe let users of the app submit tips and tricks on how they use inchcalc+ and the associated scenarios.

Works great, just one thing...

This calc is great but it would be even better if it could convert back and forth between decimals and fractions. You can go from fraction to decmal but not the other way. But other than that well worth the $4.99

A no brainer purchase for arch/contractors

Exactly what I have been looking for!!! By far the top 10 app in my phone. I would gladly pay $50 for a standalone calculator that could do this. But thank goodness I don't have to!!!!!! I am a cad designer and I prefer to do everything in decimals. But when I read my plans in the field I use a tape measure and I always have convert, and I always screw it up somehow, NOT ANYMORE! It's also usefull when I need to space footings and I need to decide them by some weird measurement like 21' 3 3/16 divided by 4. Done. Easy. No double checking my math anymore. Love it love it love it!!!!!!!!!! Thank u!

Great application - use it every day - better (and cheaper) than any ohter FIS calculator

Works as advertised for everything I've tried so far. Keep my iPhone on my belt in the workshop just to have this app. Maybe a little bit spendy than some iPhone calulators but it's a lot cheqper than a standalone special purspose calculator and is cheaper and better than any other iPhone application designed for the same purpsoe.

It would be great if you added a graph for pitch, rise and run where you just add to the field. This is something that can't be done on a standard calculator because of the display but would be great for the iPhone!

I've been looking for an app like this for a long time. Wish it would have come out a few months earlier then I wouldn't have bought my $30 project calculator from Home Depot.

One addition I can see adding is the ability to convert from foot/inches to decimal without doing an addition/subtraction/etc. So I'd like to just put in a distance and convert.

Well worth the money!

I lost my construction master a few months before this was released, so I decided to hazard the $6.99 instead of spending $40 on eBay. This one is worth every penny, although there are a few Construction Master tricks I miss: pitch is read only in degrees here an not in slope ratios, and I haven't yet found the button for calculating the areas of circles or volumes of cylinders, so I'm forced to compute those and use manual conversions. Upside: I always carry my iPhone with me, so I always have my construction calculator with me too! Great job!

A Diagonal Demon!!!!

Great app!!! Please make some tweaks with regard to rafter diagonals. Just make it easier.. It rocks now, but this has potential to blow away even the construction calculators!! Maybe just add a intuitive interface helping you through measurements of one type or another. But you have definitely hit the head on the nail!!!( no pun intended) . The people buying this program are your carpenters, and we love it!!!

Good start, needs tweaking

Rather nice app, however i have a problem with it rounding calculations with the "diag" function, and if a couple other little things were added, it would be on par with a construction master, to which it would make a great alternative.

Great Intuitive Architectural Calculator

I've been hoping someone would create a calculator I can use in architecture. I always know where my telephone is, however I do misplace my regular architectural calculator. It is also really nice to have this app with me all the time, not just when I'm sitting at my desk.

I do also have to give big kudos for writing a very stable application. It has not crashed when I put it through its paces.

This is the one I have been waiting for!

THIS IS IT!!! Great app, Thank you! Now I don't have to carry my old handheld feet-inches calculator around in my briefcase.

As an architect, a feet-inches calculator was the first app I hoped for when I got my iPhone. I previously downloaded (and positively reviewed) FIS Calculator ($9.99) from another developer, but now inchCALC+ clearly eclipses it. Data entry is much more intuitive, it is less expensive, and has more functions (in the + version). One reviewer commented, "...As it is not cheap, Please keep improving..." Not cheap????!!!! Come on folks! At $6.99, inchCALC+ has most of the features of the Measure Master Pro handheld calculator from Calculated Industries that we have all been using for years, which costs $40, and inchCALC+ has some features from the more expensive Construction Master and Construction Pro series (@$70 - $80).

Minor comments on a great app: Like others, I would like to see the key lag reduced, and maybe have the key sound be triggered by the initial touch, and not when you lift your finger.

An architect's next best friend

Well, beyond the dog and a good insurance policy. =). Seriously, though, this app continues to please as I am out in the field working with contractors and we find conditions where we need to make adjustments and get things to fit. The added features of the '+' version makes this app indispensible and saves me having to carry another heavy calculator. (I originally, in haste, purchased the regular inchCALC only to discover the next day the plus was available. I contacted the developer about my dilemma and he immediately refunded me the $2! Great app and support! Works just like it should, and as we use it day to day. Get it.

Terrfic app! The best in class.

I wrote a great review for another feet and inches calculator. I thought it was a good deal and fairly intuitive. This calculator blows that one away! inchCALC+ is MUCH more intuitive and easy to use and I'm surprised at the depth of the program. If you do calculations with feet and inches, or decimal equivalents - you need this app.

Excellent for architectural projects in the USA

This is a great calculator including conversion into metric units, which you really need as a European. Works great and has even area and volume formulas described. Even though they are just standard and you know these anyway it is nice to have. Please add some more complicated formulas and fix the issue that it doesn’t scroll all the way to the bottom.

It is a bit slow flipping to the advanced version with tilting it. Please fix that, too.

It is great that you keep the design and the icon of the original build in calculator of the iPhone. Great job. Has it is not cheap please keep improving these small issues.

Excellent job. Same structure and format as the iPhone calc. Very useful features - I am really impressed.

Only problem I have is not being able to scroll to the bottom of the information screen. Seems to be a simple fix that can be issued in a future update.

EXCELLENT

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is exactly what I have been waiting for. I am a custom home builder and use my Construction Master calculator regularily. Now I don't have to go looking for it since I have one similar on my iPhone! Does everything I need and is easy to use. The only very small complaint is the keys are a little slow to respond. but certainly not any reason t not buy this. It was money well spent compared to the $50+ for a dedicated calculator that does not do any more.
