Word Magic is designed keeping preschooler and kindergarten kids in mind. It is very ideal for kids between the ages 3 to 6. It is an excellent application for kids to have fun with words and their spellings and learn them.
A picture is shown and the kids should select the missing letter for the picture. The picture for the word will be read out. There are three flavors. Based on the kids level, you can choose missing letter at the beginning or in the middle or in the last.
Word magic is loaded with lot of fun features:
- Very simple design. Kids need to just touch the answer.
- Very attractive and funny pictures.
- Once they identify the correct answer, shaking the iphone will take them to a new problem.
- Every time they pick the answers they get appreciated with surprise appreciation (real voice)
- After every 5 successive correct answers different colored stars appear as their rewards. Kids love this.

For kindergarten level only
The maximum length of word is 6 letters, and there are limited number of words. Not good for First grade or higher level.

Ok, but could improve
My biggest concern is the accent of the reader is a bit hard to understand for US English. There is a picture as well, but think they should have correct audio cues to learn as well.

Intuitive, instant, no inner delays
This is an app that entertains and teaches instantly yet is likely to remain a favorite for no short amount of time. No social networks, scoreboards, layers of narrative, etc. It gets right to the business at hand and makes it fun for both child and adult (who probably won't be required for the tot to derive full benefit from the game). One of the best values in apps.

I use this app everyday in my classroom for spelling practice. Its a great app and it also has other spelling games.

There are some pronunciation errors
As someone in the speech therapy field, the mispronunciations are hard to listen to...I've encountered several, i.e. Tree sounds more like twee; three is also incorrectly pronounced.
I suppose I could turn down the volume but I think the auditory feedback is important for the children. Rerecord a different child saying the word correctly for five stars.

Good app for kids learning to read
Two of my kids love this app, one is 6 and is just learning to read at the kindergarten level. My 4 y.o. Really likes it too, and it is challenging for him. My other 6 y.o. Is already reading and she thinks it is boring. So, this is a great app for early readers.

Phonetics support added
Thanks for all the support for Word Magic. Starting from 4.0 we are planning on making several enhancements. As a first step, we had added support for phonetics in the preferences. We have retained the old layout as default. In the upcoming versions, we will default it to phonetics. Thanks to Maynee Desandies - our local teacher who had helped us in adding phonetics support for Word Magic.

Fantastic app!
Great learning app! There are other similar apps like this one, but they are not as good. Perfect learning tool for our preschooler! The stickers and ribbon rewards are an extra bonus feature, it motivates our little one.

Simply Superb!
I bought this app for my 4 yrs old son. He loves this apps a lot and it helps him to imporve his spelling kills and I am seeing very good improvement in reading skills as well. It's really more worth what I spent. It can't be expalined in words. You will feel it!!! Great Job. Love to see more words, pictures and more levels. Keep it up.

great for my 3 year old!
This is a great program perfect for my 3 year old. Both my husband and I sit at home and work with her on her spelling, sounds, identification of letters, etc. She has gotten amazingly good at her spelling and is learning things that I'm sure she might be learning in kindergarten. She loves it because she thinks it is just a game, and we love it because it makes home schooling her easy & fun! Thanks anusen!

Good app for preschooler/kindergarteners to learn spelling
My 4-year old likes this app and I can see she is learning from it from doing the spelling exercises. It makes her stop and sound words out so she can figure out how to fill in the blank.

Great and Useful
Word Magic is a cool app that was very useful to my kid to check his current spelling skills, and expand beyond his current level. The app has a great collection of words, and has several configurable settings including level, rewars sound, word length and many others. Great app for a ridiculously cool price!

I like the program. Is it the best, I would have to say yes, it's the best available in this format for this age group. Do I like the multi-cultural accents, not really, but, that's the world in which we live. I just 'TEACH' my son the pronunciation I prefer. Could it be better, yes! My beginning 2nd grader burns through these words in no time at all. I would like to see more advanced words and would pay money for the more advanced version. I would really like to see 'Concerned Educator' put out a better app. Where are your apps listed?

Not phonics based!
This was clearly not designed by an educator. Initial sounds are not bad, but the medial and ending sounds have zero relationship to phonological awareness. No knowledge of vowel pairs is being taught. Very poor examples are the words moon, bear, and bird. the o, e and i do not make their short sounds in these words. They work as a pair. The i in bird is an r-controlled vowel. Before children learn to read print, they need to become aware of how the sounds in words work. This app will confuse and frustrate young children as they enter kindergarten.

Word pronunciation needs work
Not bad. However the pronunciation of the words from benefit generally from being in a more neutral accent. More importantly some of the words are essentially unrecognizable. Clover sounded like it started with a P - more like plowed than clover. I think someone needs to go through all the words and record many of them.

My kindergartner loves it!
I got this app for my son in Kindergarten. He was learning to read and he plays this all the time. The voice is a little hard to understand on some words - but he loves playing it and its pretty challenging yet easy enough for that age. I think once your kid knows how to read fluently - this app would be a waste. However for ages 7 down - great app! 5 stars. No bugs or glitches we have encountered either.

Not really for toddlers, my 3yr old was just having fun tapping any letter instead of learning much. Should be good when she's four like the rating says, could use a bit more animation.

Kinda cheesy
My kids haven't played this game yet. I played it to see how it works. I was surprised and disappointent to see that they misspelled a word. They spelled the plural version of fish as fishes which is not correct. We'll see if my kids like it.

Needs sone updates
I completely agree with DenisePhilly. Needs some updates & revisions. Also, a volume control. It's SO loud and adjusting the volume on my iPhone does nothing.

I'm surprised by the 5-star reviews. It's good, not great. What I would change:
--The child's voices that say the words enunciate very poorly, so I usually have to say the word to my son so he can properly hear the starting sound (he's on the first level). For example, there is a picture of a hut--not exactly an everyday word--and all you really hear is the "ut" part of the word.
--If he chooses the wrong letter, a child's voice says something like "twy [sic] again" or "you can do it", but every time it says "thass [sic] okay", he thinks he got it right, not wrong. ("But Mom, she said that's okay!") It's not obvious enough whether he got it right or wrong.
--What's with all the halloween backgrounds? It'll show a picture of the sun, the word "_un" and have witches on broomsticks in the background? What the ??????
--The words ARE NOT grouped by how easy they are to spell (just by the number of letters and the position of the letter within the word). So you CANNOT choose to focus on words with simple vs. blended consonants (like "c" or "s" vs. "ch", "sh", "sl", or "sp") or short vs. long vs. miscellaneous vowel sounds. This may be fine for a more advanced speller, but if your kid is just working on letter sounds, you'll run into a lot of frustration.

Educational App
This app is a good way to start your kids reading. The pictures are simple and clear and it's something that can grow with your child. One of my sons (4yr) is filling in the letters and my other son (2yr) is saying the words even though he is nowhere near being able to read yet. Good app.

Great kids' game!
Well done! Great educational game! I like how you can choose which letter is missing (beginning, middle, or end). You can also choose to have it all in caps, if you want to. My daughter loves this game. I like the developers chose to use a childs voice to say the word. I think children perfer that over hearing an adult's voice. My only suggestion would be to even out the sound. The voice is very quiet when saying the word and too loud when congratulating. Minor thing that I hope gets fixed in an update. Highly recommend this game for kids!

My daughter loves this!
My daughter, 5, is going into kindergarten this fall and loves this app. She used to be hooked on Easy Math but now likes this more. You can change whether the work is missing the first last or middle letters and the updates keeps adding more words. I was shocked yesterday when she spelled 'purple'. She told me she learned it from my phone. I am convinced this is one of the best apps for early childhood learning. Easy Math, and iArcade with the memory matching game are two others that come to mind. Anyway I'd give this one six stars if I could.

Needs work
My 4 year old got bored after a few minutes. There is not enough difference in the words spoken after choosing a letter. Kids need to know they have it right. This app says almost the same thing in the same tone for correct and incorrect answers. Change that and it might keep the attention longer.

Good spelling app
In addition to more words as suggested by others, I would suggest that there be an option for hearing the phonetic sounds of the wrong answers instead of the oops try again. Then the child can learn to associate the sounds with the letters which will aid in spelling. But other all a good spelling app for the early reader.

My kindergartner loves this application, I think it is a very good idea to have kids fill in either beginning, middle or finishing sounds. There is a lot of room for improvement: I wish you did not always have to choose beginning, middle or finishing sounds, so that any of those could be presented randomly as an option. More words are definitely needed, and also longer words. It would also be good that the word be spoken when you get it right, or even before you get it right as an option or a hint.

Good for K and 1st graders
This is a terrific App. Good variety and engaging for my two kids. It definitely fits the K and 1st grade kids that it's designed for. I'd really love to see a version that takes kids to the next grade levels - 2nd and 3rd..... Maybe, longer words and more varied vocabulary.

More words are needed. My son took around 20 mins to complete all the words. Please introduce words with two vowel words as well. This is a great start, hoping for some good updates.

Great app but could use few tweaks. The review by Esemete sums them all up for me. More words, next game button too tight, etc. More levels with longer words would be awesome. My daughter, 5, mastered them all in the first sitting.

Perfect Word App for my 3 year Pre-Schooler
Simple, yet very intuitive interface. Very encouraging and rewarding App every time you get your word right. Fancy Star graphics is great. My son Loves it. Would love to see more Levels, more words and more Animation. Can't wait for next update.

Engaging
Not a bad application. My 3 year old got hooked right away. But there is definitely room for improvement
• I would make a bigger deal when they get the right answer, especially when the mute is on so this will have to be done visually.
• There needs to be more separation between the "Next Game" button and the buttons at the bottom. A 3yo shaky hands keep pressing one of those buttons instead of the next game
• I hope we can ad more pictures to the game
But overall, after trying several applications, this is the only one that my daughter has even paid attention to. Oh, one more thing the cow doesn't look like a cow.
