Great! If you know what you're doing.

I've had this app for the longest time. It's great. That is, if you know what you're doing.

Before, I had the 3DS version (I still do), and I use that whenever I can't draw on paper and such. This app is no different. Now it's possible to draw on this app if you have experience with using a touch screen pen for your iPhone/iPad. Not to mention, when you post into the gallery from this version, people would only be able to see it when they go to the website (You might still be able to see the other version made drawings like the 3DS one on there, but still). Also, the controls can be a bit confusing. I've had no problem with it, but others might, so...

In short, I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great app to use, but it may not be for everyone. So I'd think before buying. I, for one, don't regret my decision getting it.

I started off with the free version, and loved it so much that I got the paid version. The paid version comes with lots of cooler features that help out so much. It has helped we improve my drawing skills, but lately it has been glitching a lot. I'll open a new drawing and it won't let me draw in the color, showing up white, But this past week, I finally had it. I'd worked 3 hours on a drawing that I was really proud of. I went to watch the speed up drawing of it, and when I went to save it, the whole painting was white. I tried everything, but my drawing was gone. I'm really upset about this, and if you don't fix this soon I'll go find a better app.

Love the colors app!

I love this app to death, I use it almost every single day! However, ever since I updated, I don't know when but, every time when I'm watching a speed paint the lines turn white and I can't see anything. I really do hope it gets fixed soon, because I really love/adore this app.

Good game but...

I just bought the game yesterday and downloaded the new update,it was a good app until the update brought a glitch where when you color with the black color it turns out white, so whenever my friends want to see how I made a drawing I can't, because doesn't work!

the colors is was ok for iPad...since I got rid of my 3ds...but there's a problem....me and my friends was trying to do a collab...but he said it won't let him download my collab art on his 3ds...they need to update it for people use 3ds to download art from the iPad... :/

I was working on a drawing, when the app closed by itself! And all my hard work, GONE! This thing needs an auto save feature in my opinion. Because I do not want to have that happen again!

Glitch

Hi I have this game on my iPad and noticed that if you leave the app without saving all progress will be deleted and on the 3ds it will save after you leave the game. And if you undo too many times one of the layers that you aren't even on will disappear.

A much needed update!

It's great! Much improved resolution and layers for iOS finally arrives.

It looks like a few features are missing, like the photo reference layer I see in the instructions. That would be great and I look forward to that! I love the output resolution options.

That said, it competes directly with my favorite sketching/painting app Sketchclub and Adobe Ideas.

The old Colors! Had tapered edge options. If I had one thing to work on, I would work on emulating the "paintbrush" of Adobe Ideas and the "Sketchy" brush from Sketchclub. The way both apps begin and end lines would really give an illustrator's touch to the power of Colors! That was once seen in the pressure-sensitive app of the past. Pressure sensitivity can't be replicated, but you can make the lines feel like there's an analogue feel to it. Check out Ideas and Sketchclub. If the lines of those combined with the resolution and playback of colors you would be unstoppable!

Ehhh...

Has "adjust offset" been removed? Although the new additions are welcome, but without that option the program becomes a pain to use. Also, the camera option to use picture does not appear for me.

okay I had a 3ds and I bought the app colors!3D and it was the best purchase because of how awesome it is and the many things you can do. I don't have my 3ds anymore because of an issue so I bought it for my iPod now to compare the two i like the 3ds version better because of the more options. I really love colors and I'm not gonna say it's not worth it cause it is if you are in to drawing. But it could use an update and also since I just got the app today It won't let me access the gallery cause of some issue with the app can you fix this??>.< It wont let me upload, login, and even look at other paintings...

it needs retina graphics and layers!! low-res icons make it a bit distracting and the 3DS version already has layers so why not implement it on the iphone version as well?

Good for painting, needs layers!

I found this application very good for painting with its huge potential in brush effects, but it really needs an update for layers. I can get around needing layers with the 1500x zoom, but it would still be nice to have so this app stands up to the 3ds version. 3 stars for not being what I payed $5 for.

Needs Updates

I discovered this excellent app after seeing the new 3DS version release. I downloaded this app on my 3rd generation iPad; that's when I instantly noticed a few things. I don't mean to sound negative right out of the gate, but if it weren't for the few items I address below, this app would be truly top notch. And for the relatively high (among its peers) price of $4.99, I really wish some of the things I mention would have been addressed at this point. I was not anticipating compatibility issues in this price bracket.

The first thing I noticed was that this version of the application cannot view the drawing process or save a lot of the newer art published on the online gallery. I assume this is because the newer art is coming from the 3DS version of the application and is not currently compatible until the iOS version is updated.

The other issues I have are related to presentation optimization. This application does not support the retina display on iPhone, and there is not an iPad version (or just iPad compatibility). For these couple of reasons I cannot give this a full 5 star rating.

Having said that, all other aspects of this application are excellent. From the intuitive, simple methods of controlling the size or opacity of the brush by tilting the device, to the fantastic re-rending process of your art, I am very pleased with this as an artistic application. I find that in its simplicity, its prowess as an easy way to draw beautiful art is exposed almost immediately.

I would like to commend this app as an artistic tool, and I would really love to see it move up in compatibility with its own medium formats and the current slate of iOS devices and their capabilities. If it can do that, I'll immediately give it a 5 star review.

Excellent drawing app

This is a really easy to use yet advanced drawing app. This started out as a Nintendo DS homebrew app, which I'm envious for its pressure sensitivity. But now Colors! 3D is coming to Nintendo 3DS, which I sent in my first drawing to win a free copy :) even if I don't win, I still had fun. I recommend this drawing app for its simplicity, the ability to see yours and other peoples artworks in playback mode, and the art community. Get a stylus. And if you own a Nintendo 3DS, get Colors! 3D when it comes out on the Nintendo eShop as well. Nothing beats drawing in 3D ^_^

Breathtaking

Its hard to give this less than 5 stars and Anyone who's bought this app could agree. Some of the features include Switching Colors and Brush sizes quickly, PlayBack of your Art and Others, uploading to the gallery and much more! In the future Id like to see a Blending tool or Blur and A "mixing" Board.

A must buy for on the go artists!

One of my favorites

It's hard to give this app anything less than five stars. Colors makes optimal use of screen real estate, it's very quick and easy to switch colors and generally colors does what I want it to do the way I want it to work. The playback of paintings is a fascinating way to watch how you and others work to complete paintings. Of all the painting/drawing apps I have used for iOS, colors is only rivaled by sketchbook. I have been a user of colors app since it was first released for Nintendo ds (which is still a great app btw. and I would like to eventually see a ds update also), and iOS seems to bee a more popular platform for creativity... So it only makes sense in my opinion to release an iPad version. I would most definitely buy an iPad version if it was a comparable cost to the iPhone version. 🌟🌟🌟(please release an iPad version)🌟🌟🌟

Colors is a must have if you are interested in animation and digital art. It's a perfect fusion of both. Buy this app! the developer is really cool.

The "perfect" painting tool!!!!

Unlike the other apps I have downloaded over the last few years, this is the one to get if you are simply a fine artist and not a photo manipulator. Hard to find, it's the only one I'll keep.

ATTENTION ALL ARTIST

This app has surprisingly AMAZING art in it's galleries. You can browse thru them and be blown away. I discovered one of my favorite artist on this thing. Uploading your drawings are so easy and you'll be able to see it in the galleries!!!! You can spend hours on this app. They have every color because of the color circle chosing system. I love looking at the best this week gallery. Every type of art is in it: anime, sketchy, cartoon, textured, water paint, graphics, funky designs, abstract, scenery, stories in one second, slide show, detailed, an even a show you can replay and watch how they made their drawing, it really helped me learn how to draw te human body alot better. One last reason I love it: you can save the art in your own gallery!!! I'm so happy because now I have amazing art on my iPod!!!! GET THIS APP YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

Incredible Drawing App, but I Need Help!

I tried making an account, so I put in my email and password and stuff, but I never got a validation email or anything, like my friends said I was supposed to have received. If anyone knows how to get in contact with the developer, please mention it in a review! Because I feel terrible that I spent $5 on an app and I can't get the most out of it! :( Also, I haven't been able to get into the galleries. Does anyone know what's going on?

Best app I have

This app may not be in it's most finished state, but I find that it is my most used on a day to day basis. I like to do one or two paintings a day and see what kind of ratings I can get on the website. There is a limit to two uploads a day, but as long as you are spending time on what you do there is no reason that this is not acceptable. The online community is the best part of the program; with weekly challenges and a large gallery of images, you can truly be lost as an artist.

A "must have" app for artist!

Without a doubt the best art app to date! The interface is friendly and with a little practice & experimentation you can mimic real world mediums such as oil, watercolor, pastel, etc.

The online gallery allows you to share your creations and be inspired by the works of others. For the beginner, or anyone looking to expand their forte, I highly recommend using one of the galleries best features -- the playback option; it allows you to watch the creation of any gallery image, stroke by stroke.

The only negative thing about Colors is that despite the gallery administrator's best efforts, a fair amount of junk -- not art -- gets posted. By this I don't meant art that doesn't appeal to me personally, but the intent by some to turn this into a freehand text messaging service by posting scribbles that say "will somebody email me at...".

In a sense, the Top Painting gallery weeds out a lot of the garbage but since it is vote driven, the popularity of a contribution is obviously not always based on its artistic aspects.

My plea to the admin: create a gallery that limits access only to the serious artist. Require a nominal fee if necessary plus a sample submission for review as part of the admission process.

Awesome app

At first I was hesistant on spending $5 for this program but I took the plunge anyway. An let me tell you this is the best app I've used. It took alittle getting used to as it was hard to use the tiny brush sizes to create what wanted but I had figured out that using the bigger brushes bring out the talent in me! This program not only let's me create beautiful images using my finger but it pushes my creative level as well! The best part is Ivan play back every stroke of my artwork like a video!

One recommendation is to be able to export the playback in avi or mov format so I can watch on a pc

This app ranks way, way up there in creativity and inspiration. The tool set isn't too extensive, but it does have everything you need. All of your "brushstrokes" are recorded for playing back later. Export your paintings to your photo album or save them in one of 18 save slots within the application. You can also upload your paintings to an online gallery (brushstrokes and all). Browse the gallery of some truly awe-inspiring art and guess what! ... play back the brushstrokes of the other artists in the online gallery and watch their masterpieces come to life stroke by stroke!

This is is much more than a simple painting app and well worth the $5 price. It will educate, inspire and entertain you for hours!
