- Description -
UltraTimer is the original fully-programmable and customizable interval timer in the AppStore. As a result, it is the most refined and feature-rich interval timer today!
UltraTimer is an easy and convenient way of timing any activity or series of activities. You can set a single timer or multiple timers, each including series of count-down intervals that run back-to-back. Each interval can be customized to play a different alarm sound from the included library, as well as change the background color for visual feedback.
It is easy to set up intervals for any activity: training (martial arts, boxing, mma, circuit training, interval training, Crossfit, HIIT / HIT, yoga, meditation, exercise, workout, cycling, running, etc), time management for switching between multiple projects, or anything else you can think of.
For a complete workout, you can set up a Timer Group which will play individual timers back to back. Start out with your favorite Warm Up timer, then run through your favorite Training timer, and end with a Stretching timer. UltraTrainer will run you through your full workout automatically.
The included sound library comes with a wide variety of reminder sounds suitable for relaxing timers, high intensity activities, and everything in between. Custom sounds can also be recorded via the microphone; you are not limited to the included sound library.
Exclusive to our products, users can browse the Timer Exchange, a community where people freely exchange timers. Search, browse, and download timers that other users have uploaded. If you want, you can upload your own timers to share with others.
If a friend also owns UltraTimer, you can exchange timers via e-mail or the clipboard to use other methods.
Using UltraTimer with music playing is not a problem. You can begin playing music on the timer screen, pause it, or skip to the next track.
Just a few features in UltraTimer:
- Timer Exchange community
- Runs in the background
- Copy/Paste Intervals and Actions
- Delayed start time
- Over 70 included sounds
- Record your own sounds
- Large countdown timer display
- iPod music playback control lets you pause/play the current track or move to the next track from the countdown timer screen
- Pause the timer to temporarily halt the activity
- Timer state is saved if it is interrupted
- Still runs if screen is locked
- Intuitive setup
If you're looking for an App that coaches you as you train, check out "UltraTrainer."

This version crashes frequently. The ability to import and export timers seems to have gone away. Trying to access the timer exchange results in an instant crash.

I cannot modify interval times since last update. When you save the time it replaces it with 521263:42:28 as the time no matter what I set.

Even worse than before...

Doesn't crash now but you can't rename any existing interval nor name a new interval. All you get is a non-responsive white dialogue box. Basically, the app is non-functional.

App Crashes Constantly

The app is virtually useless. Every attempt to alter a timer results in a crash. Every attempt to delete, copy, paste, etc causes a crash. Awful. Moving on to something else. Will not use "plain and simple software" app developers in the future. Terrible.

Used to be good.......

This app was, I repeat, was the best timer app out there, now unless you are running iOS 8 or newer (iPhone 5 and up) its absolutely useless and the developers haven't done anything as you can see from the reviews. It will just crash over and over and over.......

Not the app it was

The retro digital digits ruin the apps class. Either take it back to the older digit display or give the user an option for the visual display. Other reviews posted are factual concerning the apps downgraded new features. A class app has been demeaned with inferior upgrades. Not a wise choice on the designers part. Sometimes you have to learn to leave well enough alone at the visual level and just refine the underlying code.

Lost perfection with update

I used to love this app. The update robbed me of perfection. The title of my set gave me my sequence order. Now instead of my title, when the timer chimes it just says "new interval". Duh. The chime tells me that. You took away my cheat sheet when you took away my titles. Why?

Buggy

Please, folks, fix this app. The current update is very buggy and should not be out there. I use a 4s running IOS 8 and had no troubles with the app until this update. Also, if you can add an easy to access screen lock, I would love that feature. For now, the app is really unreliable. Examples: there is no way to exit the help section; the app started a timer when opened; sometimes buttons work, sometimes they don't.

This update is horrible so far.

I installed this app on my old iPod touch 4 running the latest IOS 6 to see if it worked with voiceover. It just crashes when I try to run it, I’m taken back to the screen I was on. I don’t want to update it on the device I use it on that is running IOS 8.1.2 because I’m not sure it will work there either and I don’t want to be without the program for an extended period of time.
I’m getting a third device I’ll install it there and see about updating this review. Ill also update it if they come out with another update that works.

Doesn't work

I have used this product for about 2 years. I have gone through 4 different iPhones, itouches, iPads etc.. And each time I have tried to transfer my data over via all available options given, clipboard, email, wifi etc.. It does not work, period. Now I downloaded this new version and it CRASHES every time I try to create an action. I shouldn't be creating an action in the first place because the data should have transferred like you said it would- ie the reason I bought this POS in the first place, so I could transfer timers. I had crash problem on most of my other devices too. I do not recommend this

Great Timers & Responsive Developers

I've tried at least 14 timer apps. Some were confusing, some impossible. This timer is easy to customize . Create your own workouts, name your own intervals put in your own picture and music or use their presets. A while ago there was an update that created problems with their other app Ultra timer . I contacted the developers and i shopped for another app but they resolved the issue AND upgraded my app for free to Ultra Trainer. Both timers are Great! Now that's Customer Service.

would not buy it if there had been a 30 day demo.

Use this app on Sunday for intervals while running a 1/2 marathon. After about 20 minutes, it sounded like the timer had started a second time, I kept hearing a second tone about 10 seconds after the first. After about an hour, it stopped completely.
When it does run properly, the display does not shut off, nor can it be shut off via any settings, draining the battery.
Overall, the more I use it, the more I think I wasted $2.

Volume problems

Version 5.3 has an issue where when you select "Fade music" for the interval beeps, after a few songs it will fade the music down for the rest of the program and you can barely hear anything. I reported this long ago, as have others in the reviews. Why no fix? I have to try to remember to manually select "no change", but then the beeps are over the volume and it sounds bad. Further, it will not default to this and you have to reselect this choice every time.

Rave Review - Long Overdue

I have nothing but praise for the application and the support provided. Everything I have asked for and more has been added or corrected. My current workout program (RMAX Tacfit) cycles through various timing scenarios and this timer fits the bill perfectly. I added an external speaker to allow a group to workout together. So my next request is to be able to select various warning points (midpoint, 10 sec remaining, etc) within an interval. Thanks for a great product. May be the best $2 I ever spent.

Great App--Works as Advertised

In searching for a good, programable interval timer, I downloaded (and paid for!) a couple of so-so apps before I came across this one, which absolutely blows the others out of the water. It's completely programable, intuitive and--unlike the others I came across--provides real support and instructions. Creating and editing sessions is a breeze, and the interface is clean and, as far as I can tell, bug free. Seriously, drop the $1.99, program it to do what you want, and get down to business.

Great app!

Fantastic App! Does exactly what I need it todo. This is way more configurable than the others I've seen. Imho, this beats the others - no question. For those hunting around for an app that you can configure to your needs, rather than adapting to someone else's workout schedule- start looking at this app first. I wish I had.
A couple suggestions:
1) Give an option to start a specified iPod playlist with each timer or interval, or just continue with the currently playing playlist, or no music. I like to randomize the songs to avoid monotony, but my warmup music isn't what I want for my training music. This will allow for quiet time during break intervals too.
2) Choose interval warning sounds from iPod songs so I can make/import my own clean mp3's and use them for transition sounds.
3) The fade out/pause music doesn't seem to work very well for me, so it's hard to tell if you support fade out when using Pandora as well. Maybe that needs a second look.
Anyway, these are my top three sugguestions. This is a great app already- I'm looking forward to what you have planned for the future.
Well done!

Also have problem with sound!!

As the other reviews mentioned my sound stops working - about 25 minutes or so into my workout. I normally play music on it at the same time. Music continues to play but buzzers don't work. Used to be my all-time favorite app - now I have gone back to using my large boxing timer for the interval portion of my workout.

Sound does not work - neither does customer service

Ultratimer sounds stop announcements mid session rendering use of this product frustrating and maddening. You are left in the middle of a workout session NOT knowing what to do next without constantly watching the timer display. I find this product then useless.
It seemed to BREAK in 5.2 release. What is even more maddening is CUstomer Service has not acknowledged the previous 'sound stopping' complaints and issued either a) an option to download previous release OR b) state intended direction to fix. Instead ONE is left wondering if this product is of any use.
IN MY HUMBLE OPINION..... beware of ANY 'Plain and Simple' software products based on customer service response. It really isn't that hard to perform good customer service.

Limitless customization!

Wow this is one awesome, versatile timer! I was looking for a more flexible interval timer, which is what this is but WAY more. I really like that you can program in voice commands (such as in the Fight Gone Bad example workout) so that you don’t have to remember your workout sequence or look at the iPod or whatever to see the sequence. The sample timers are excellent and have given me ideas to program in additional ones. Easy to program & use!

Very Good

I love how you can have music play in the background and when an alarm plays the music gets quiet so you can hear the alarm. Also love the ability to add your own sounds for alerts.

Great app!

This worked great today with my CrossFit workout. There were two of us and thanks to this app, we didn't have to go in heats (so one of us could keep time) or try to see a stopwatch with sweat running in our eyes. I set up a custom Tabata timer because I didn't care for the one that came with the app. I set up a 10 second rest interval, and a 20 second work interval. Buzzer means stop, boxing bell means go, and tones for 3 second warnings. The different sounds meant there was no confusion on when to stop and go.
I can't wait to try setting up other CrossFit timers!
Well worth the price!

Just love it!

This is one of my most used apps on the iPhone.
I use it for my kettlebell workouts, and am more than pleased! A very good product, and well worth it.

Nice App!!!

I just bought this and used the Tabata setting. Having Tabata preeloaded was nice and the fact that it works with your music was nice too. Just play your music first, hit the square button, turn the app on and pick your interval!!! I'm pretty happy with it.

Need to test updates more thoroughly

This developer has been good at posting regular updates but the last few have been buggy. Version 3.5 duplicated all of the timer routines, a problem but easily corrected. The latest update posted to fix that problem totally erased my whole database of timer routines. Hours of input and debugging time wasted!!! Beware!

Powerful and flexible interval timer.

I find this one of the most-used apps I have. It comes with useful presets of workouts, but it's real power is realized when you customize it to meet what you want to do at the gym.
There have been some snags over its upgrade cycle, but it's kept its top spot for me when it comes to workout apps.

Tried 4 other timers for tabata and all had serious flaws or omissions. This one does everything I wanted and then some. Tip: titling the rest segments with the name of the next excersize allows for slick custom workouts.

I bought this to use for Tabata intervals, and it works great! I love the deep level of customization this app allows. It loses one star, though, because the user interface is a little tacky looking and not very slick.

Well done!

I have been looking for multi-event interval timer application and this one fit my demands quite well. First, the app allows you to record your own sounds. So, I was able to replay my Gymboss timer's sounds and record them. Second, I was able to copy and paste events easily and create my workout's various circuits very quickly. This means that my various circuits were exactly timed even though each circuit has many events with varied lengths and and rest periods. Now, I know exactly how long a workout will take me to complete it.
I wish it'd allow the user to create a list of timers and play them in a sequence.

Works as advertised

Awesome program... one of the reasons I got an iphone. Timers are easy to set up and use. Works well for a number of purposes including at the gym, work or around the house. Works well with ipod and I have found no glitches. Cannot easily use with other apps like a fitness trackers but that is Apple’s fault. Wish there were a few more alarm options but, this does not detract from the product I am just picky about sounds.

Does Everything for a Fitness Instructor

Does everything that I wanted. I set up a 3-2-1 course. It starts with a 5 minute warmup, followed by 8 intervals of 3mins, 2mins and 1mins and then ends with a 5 minute cooldown. It took me less than five minutes to figure out all the features and get the whole timer set up. Excellent app that I would recommend to anyone looking for a timer flexible enough to handle whatever is needed.

Now the ultimate timer app

With version 2.1 this is a truly solid and versatile timer app. I use it to create high intensity interval training workouts. The built-in sounds are solid and very easy to hear, especially with a recent update that pauses audio during the sound. And you can even create your own sounds which lets you give yourself audible prompts. Nice! The developers really listen to user feedback, as evidenced by the version 2.1 update to re-enable screen locking support so you can do your workout with the device on you without worrying about tapping the display. Nice job guys!

How can you disable full screen pause?

Can we have an option to disable full screen pause? Its annoying that we cant disable this because the screen can easily be touched during the routine. Please plan on putting this in the next release.
Thanks.
Tony Modjdehi

Does not function correctly when locked

If the screen is locked the timer stops working.
This means that you have to leave the screen on all the time
doing this makes the battery run out fast.
This in my opinion makes this thing useless.
I recommend not buying this until the developers fix this feature.
If not for this one feature this would be a great product.

Perfect for stretching

Better than expected. Got it set up in 5 minutes. Use it for timing yoga stretches with a few secs in between to get into next position. Favorite features: variety of volume-adjustable subtle sounds, portrait / landscape display, keeps screen illuminated during countdown, auto pause with incoming calls. Finally, I do not have to reset a timer after every stretch!

4 3/4 Stars one thing missing

I so wanted to give this 5 stars, but it is missing on thing for me..... a countdown timmer to the stat of a routine. It would be awesome if there was a countdown timer that could be set so that you had time to get into position for the start of your routine. For example there is a routine I am starting that uses Tabata intervals; the first excersise in jump rope. By the time that I start the timer and get the jump rope in position to start jumping the first 20 seconds is just about over. I would live to be able to set the initial countdown timer so that i had a few seconds to get into position fior my first excersise.

Perfect for CrossFit!

I was about to do the CrossFit Endurance WOD today and then thought that I had better check iTunes for an app of some kind that would make it easier for me to be made aware of my intervals (you know, instead of looking down at my watch every half second). The WOD today is a 5-30 sec pathways WOD and it would be a huge pain to look down at my watch for this. This app is perfect, simple, yet effective. It comes with 4 prepared timers, one of which (the most important in my opinion) is a tabata timer. You can easily program your own timers too, as is the case w/the 5-30 WOD. What's great is that if you are doing your workouts in an atmosphere that makes it difficult to hear your alarms, you can set colors to them for a visual cue. All in all, I am extremely pleased w/this app! Now, time to hit that WOD! 3, 2, 1, GO!!!!

Great for irregular interval training

A very intuitive program that is really going to aid my workouts. The program needs a copy and paste feature for repeating a single interval without repeating the whole workout. It took me over 40 mins to program a full (1 hour) workout routine with breaks and irregular intervals. I program in all of my warm up, workout, and stretching exercises including the rest in between sets. The UltraTimer also crashed quite a few times while I was setting it up. With an update, this will be a great help for me in the gym and by far the best timer app!
Great update!! Now I will give it 5 stars. Great job with the copy/paste!

2.0 Upgrade brings attractive new look, but music muting is a mistake.

I use UltraTimer on an almost daily basis either by myself or with my trainer. It has become an essential tool in my fitness program. The new look in Version 2.0 is excellent, much cleaner than before. I would only suggest that the set number appear in larger print as determining what set you are on from a few feet away can be difficult.
The decision to mute music when sounding the alarm is more problematic. It detracts from the music and is extremely jarring. During a 4 minute Tabata set, music is muted 16 times so why play it at all! Muting should at a minimum be a preference. And speaking of music, why not take advantage of OS 3.0's ability to allow apps to select playlists and control music directly from within the app? This would be a super addition to UltraTimer, and coupled with eliminating music muting allow me to add a couple of stars to my rating.

Love the new version!

I've been using this for cardio interval workouts for a few months. The new version lets you pause on the screen--very handy. I also like the LARGE numbers counting down on the screen now-- no looking for reading glasses to see how much time is left.

UltraTimer

This timer is exactly what I need for interval training on the treadmill. I gave it 4 start instead of 5 because, as others have noted, it crashed *a lot* during set up. Not really a big problem, just annoying. Otherwise, it is great and well worth the $1.99 for my purposes.

Data lost

I have been using this for a while so I had many timers inputted. All of a sudden all of my data was deleted. All of the time it took me to input my timers is now lost. Good idea for a program but very unstable. This would crash on me often. Also, the screen needed to stay on, if it turned off then the timer would hang up and the sound would not play, the time would not continue either. As soon as I turned the screen back on it would play the sound and the time would resume.

Don't blame the tool

I've been using ultratimer for 2 months now. HIIT is a breeze. It has never crashed because I update everything properly. The crashing is due to people overloading their iPhones. Also I've never lost any data. Great app. Wish I could download intervals but other than that it's the best app for interval training.

Almost there...

This is a really nice app with a lot of thought and features. It fits my needs to a "t". I would gladly give it 5 stars (or more) if the darn thing didn't crash so much when I am trying to set up a new series. I hope that the developer can figure out what it causing this problem.

Awesome!

Exactly what I have been looking for! I have been using the regular stopwatch on my iphone for my tabata training but recently it just hasn't seemed to be good enough in that it doesn't beep every 20 and 10 seconds. But thankfully you guys made this program! Awesome stuff!

Very Useful App

I have been using this app for about a week now. I was using their Interval timer app, but this new one works for me so much better. I have been doing the Couch to 5k training program, and thanks to this app I no longer have to cut times off to fit the training regimen into only 3 timers. The only problem I have been having is the program crashes every now and then while setting up the timers. But it has never crashed while running. Thanks!

Pretty Good, but needs a little work

Ur last update bumped my review up 2 stars, but one thing that bugs me is when the timer is running, the graphics are really bad. Not a big deal, but it'd b nice to see improvement, also we need more sounds (sounds that are good during excercising). Finally, it'd be really cool to have it so that a timer doesn't run, it just beeps for half a second and then the next timer starts running. So when running in place a hear a beep, I jump up and get back up and then the run counter starts again

Getting close

Newest upgrade addresses just about everything. Still wish I could adjust volume of sounds via a via iPod music. Also wish it had a sliding start button, so you don't turn it off by accident while working out. Would be nice to be able to fast forward and reverse through intervals so you can start in the middle of sequence, if you do accidentally turn it off.

Very Useful.. but needs some improvements

Ultra timer has been very useful for my music practice and Yoga. I can set the sub-timers and works awesome. However I noticed that it requires a few improvements.
1. The iphone screen is ALWAYS ON as long as the ultratimer is running. This can drain the battery life. For example, if one were to use the "default" Ergonomic timer for 8 hrs, the battery would probably have gone dead long before the expiry of 8 hrs.... My suggestion is to shut off the screen after 1 min or so (ie follow the default behaviour of iphone settings) but light up at the end of every interval.
2. It would be very useful to have restartability for every interval instead of the entire program. To illustrate this, assume you have created a "profile" called "Yoga" which has 5 timers of varying durations. It would be nice to have the facility to stop timer 1 before expiry and move on to timer 2 OR stop timer 1 before it expires, skip timer 2 and move on to timer 3. This would make this timer very flexible.
3. I also noticed one potential weakness of this app. While the timer was running, I received a phone call on my iphone. After completed the call, I noticed that the ultratimer had stopped. I would have liked the ultratimer to either be running or paused. That way if I tap on the ultratimer, it will continue from the prev state.
Other than the above this timer is awesome.

Really needs a way to select what part of an interval to repeat!

Well this app has everything I suggested way back for the round timer. BUT i totally agree with the other reviewer it does need a copy paste type feature. As an example to do burpees I start with 40 seconds of burpees and 20 seconds rest but every 5 minutes 1 minute rest. So can set up one intervall clone it 4 times and change the end timer, then I can repeat this whole thing 3 times and that gets me my first 15 minutes. BUT the next 7 minutes I do 30 seconds on 30 seconds off, and the last 7 minutes I do 20 seconds on 40 seconds off. Since you can't repeat only Part of the loop I actually had to make 3 separate timers. First stage, second stage, third stage burpees. It would be nicer if you could check off intervals and then say to repeat the checked ones x times or x minutes and they would automatically add to the end of the list.
If you could do this you could say make 40 seconds on 20 seconds off check them both and say repeat 14 times. then make a 30 seconds on 30 seconds on and check just those two off then say repeat 6 times then make just a 20 seconds on 40 seconds off check just those 2 and say repeat 6 times. and Violla 1 timer made with only 3 entries instead of needing three different timers or spending and hour manually entering each interval by hand after the first loop.
