Suddenly I can’t set it at low pitch
Suddenly I can no longer set this tuner to A-415. The historical temperaments still work but I need to be able to change the A to a lower pitch. I can change it but it immediately changes back to 440. If you fix it I will restore my five star rating. Right now it is useless to me.

Great tuner needs some love from the dev
The was my first iPhone tuner and is still my favorite. No frills, just what you need.
At some point however the mic level or something seems to have changed.
I can’t tune my electric violin without needing to plug it in. Works great for ukulele.
Also lately when manually selecting pitch using the pitch tone feature, the wheel responds very inconsistently to touch which makes it frustrating to pick a frequency.
I hope they fix this.
It really is a five star app otherwise.

“Laggy”, phrases, hard to use
The features are great, I love having the different kinds of intonation, but the app only works in fits and starts. As you tune, it doesn’t follow the pitch, then all of a sudden it catches up and overshoots it. It is very, very difficult to use this to actually tune an instrument, and I looked for the website but apparently it’s gone. Apparently the developers are just still trying to profit off of a dead app that doesn’t work and isn’t supported anymore.

App used to be amazing.. what happened?
This was once my favorite tuning app. Now it freezes on the regular and lags when I try to change tones with the tuning dial. How frustrating! What happened Cleartune developers? I'm using an iPhone Pro Max and this app acts like it's struggling. I wish the developers would fix the app to work like it used to back in the day. I guess in the meantime I'll just delete it and find a replacement.

I didn't notice anything wrong at first because I have mainly been practicing soloing. the first chored I strummed I was noticably out of tune. all sharp by a quarter step. and it didn't want to read my 1st and 2nd string half the time. (download the boss tuner. works like a charm and it's free.)

Too laggy
I try to use the tone generator portion of the app to do ear training. This worked great on android, however, on iphone, it is far too laggy. Especially when moving between 10 cent intervals, both what is shown on screen and the pitch that is heard is extremely delayed. Hoping this can be fixed in future versions.

Gets less useful with every upgrade
As I have upgraded this app, it has gotten less responsive to the inputted sounds, rendering it completely useless as a tuner in some cases. It does not respond at all to sounds played on instruments no matter how quiet the room nor how close to the sound played.

Works ok
Seems to work OK, but the pitch pipe functionality is a little unintuitive. Once I looked it up on the support website I got it working, but found that part of my problem was trying to tune to very low octaves (tuba player). The pitch is inaudible starting around C-D3. I don’t know that that is a functionality of the tuner as much as it is of the phone.

What happened?
Used to be the best tuning device I had better than my store bought guitar tuners. Recently downloaded it after not using it for a year and it doesn’t even work. It will register a pitch and then just freeze and not response to what’s played. Brand new I phone 11 so it’s not the phone and other tuner works fine

Strong players beware
This tuner is sufficient for tuning your A string ONLY. Be aware that - after much testing - I have discovered that NONE of the temperament settings (ie: Violin family, Just, Pythagorean, nor obviously Equal) will show correct readings for the E, D, G, or C strings.
As a workaround, you can turn ON the “display frequency” option and tune to the correct frequency (E:660, D:293.33, G:195.56, etc). The dial won’t look right, but at least you can get precisely in tune.
Or you can do what most professionals do: tune to the A (use Equal temperament setting), then turn off the tuner and tune the other strings by ear.

I’ve used this app for years. It was always perfect. I loved it! Now it freezes constantly. I’m on an iPhone 8 with updated operating system and app. The app is just not working anymore.

Once great tuner - now absolute garbage.
The thing that was so great about this app was its ability to set the tone to a set external tone. This is essential for pipe organs. Almost no tuners let you do this.
But cleartune did. Did being the word. They "updated" the iPad version and removed the ability to set the pitch to an external sound - poof - gone! They just neutered their great app and turned it into a cheap ass guitar tuner.
But here tonight I noticed an update. Did they put back the greatness? No clue because the app crashes on my iPad v2. I tried everything from rebooting to uninstalling and reinstalling, but nope. No joy.
This is an absolute pass. Walk away, and never look back.

What happened?
Until the latest version update, this app was my go-to app for checking intonation while practicing violin. With the newest version, it seems far less responsive, even “ignoring” pitch changes. Possibly the additional noise filtering has dumbed its down too much. I think I liked the old version much better!

Screen darkens after a few moments
On the one hand, this app has a handsome, easy-read screen and it seems accurate. On the huge downside, it doesn’t force the screen to stay on. Every few moments I have to stop tuning, touch it, and start again. I’m forced to look for a new tuning app.

Custom Tuning for Acoustic Guitar
I love this app! It’s accurate, and not overly expensive. The display is super easy to understand. And users’ can create “custom temperaments.” I plugged in the offsets recommended by James Taylor which I find work really well with my guitar.

Love it, hoping for playback improvement
I have found a lot of great use for this application as I am a double bass player. I just wished that it would allow the playback drone over Bluetooth. As it stands, I can only hear the drones from my tiny little iPhone speakers (bad for low frequencies) or through headphones. If this issue could be resolved it would make it the perfect application for me and I am sure many others.

Good app but....
Overall this is a very useful app but I have been unable to find a way to disable auto lock when using it. It is quite annoying that it shuts off unless I disable my auto lock every time I use it. Not sure if this is still being supported as I have been unable to contact their support.

I bought this app mostly to tune my guitar and mando, but I now use it for everything. This can seriously find the note for any sound. Any instrument (or even not) with a resonating frequency and this thing can tell you which note it is. I am very proud of this purchase, great tool for any musician!

Ain’t broke, don’t fix it
As a guitar teacher, I have referred so many students to download Cleartune. The update a couple years ago made a great app considerably more frustrating. The green arrow pointing to the exact pitch you’re on used to only turn green when you were perfectly in tune, staying yellow when you were not. Now it’s just always green, which is confusing for my students. I avoided updating the app on my iPad for that reason, but recently was forced to update it finally. I also don’t know why the updated version has a more zoomed in version of the pitch wheel. It was great the way it was, please go back.

Fix or refund, please?
I just purchased this on a recommendation from a fellow violinist. I’m on iOS 12 on my iPhone 5s. The pitch pipe feature does not work at all. I checked settings, restarted my phone, and even removed the app and reloaded it. Nothing. Can you please tell me how to remedy this problem or give me a refund?
Follow up: After 3 days of waiting for a response here in the App Store, I decided to try to contact the developer via their website, but all I got after typing in my message and hitting "send" was an "internal server error" message. so I called Apple support, and Apple issued a refund. Thank you Apple for rectifying the issue.

This was my go to tuner for years. I recently updated my iOS and had to update the app. Please tell me how an update can turn a simple tuner that worked flawlessly for me for years into a useless pile a garbage. What happened? The needle display used to move smooth. Now it jumps and jerks. Why on earth would you change this is beyond me. Looking for another tuner I guess. Please change it back. I really used to love this tuner. I make my living as a studio guitarist in Nashville and use this every day for my acoustic instruments. Frustrating.

I have recommended this app many many times. Tracking is better than most professional hardware tuners. Pitch pipe feature is crucial too! I wish I could still get between notes with it though. Why did the lock/unlock button go away?

Used to be the standard...
This app has been on my devices for years because it was the most accurate and responsive tuner out there for iOS. After the update, it has been unusable and inaccurate. I have no problem using the Polytune on my board, but Cleartune was always nice to have in a pinch, or for an impromptu acoustic jam. I hope they get back to the basics and fix the shoddiness and new design of the app so that it is responsive and usable again. I did pay full price for it at one point.

Why did you remove features?
This has been my go-to tuner for years. As a music teacher, I was able to use the app on two different devices side-by-side to demonstrate what it sounds like when two pitches go in and out of tune with each other (using the tone generator). The “unlocking” feature that removes the pitch grid is essential to the success of this lesson because the students could see the wheel move farther and farther away from the pitch and compare it with the sound waves they hear (as the waves get faster, the pitches go out of tune with one another). They LOVED it and it was an extremely effective lesson. This feature has been removed, unfortunately, and now I need to find an alternative app. Very disappointed.

too good to be true, but it is true
I have always had trouble keeping my mandolin in tune. The string sets never or seldom ever sounded right to me my guitar, mandolin, dobro and banjo have never sounded so good! I triedClear tune in noisy rooms where other tuners failed, and it worked perfectly! In less than a week, I have scrapped my various clip on tuners in favor of this extremely accurate Cleartune tuner. It is worth the money at several times the price!!!

Used to be perfect
I am a classical violinist and violist as well as a teacher. I also play other instruments for a hobby. This app used to be perfect whether I was tuning a note that had to be perfect, tuning my violin knowing it had to be exactly in tune with other tuners, or tuning my banjo or tenor guitar. Now the wheel flails aimlessly no matter what the needle damping setting is. I’m not recommending this to my students any longer and probably won’t use it any more myself until I see another update and give it a test drive.

Not thrilled with the update
I’m a musician who likes to put a tuner up on the stand and play through an entire piece of music to check for any intonation issues. With the newest update, if I’m not actively touching the screen, it dims and locks on me, which I find annoying. The only way around this is to change the settings on the phone to never lock, which I don’t want to do, so I’ve essentially stopped using this tuner and gone back to my old Korg. As I’ve used and loved this app for years, this is a huge disappointment.
Other than this issue (which is a huge one for me), the tuner is accurate and useful, but the pros aren’t enough to overcome the cons for me at this rate.

Excellent tuner, just two small things I would fix
This tuner is excellent. For the money, you won’t find a better tuner for your iPhone. It’s easy to use, accurate and customizable. It had a pitch pipe setting so you can easily listen to any reference tone you like.
That being said, I noticed two small differences from the older version versus the new iOS 11 version:
1. The green needle used to turn green when you were +/- 5 cents from the center of the pitch. Now it’s perpetually green. Please change it back to how it was.
2. The pitch pipe used to have a lock setting so that you could set it to any pitch and listen to what it sounds like in or out of tune. Please bring that lock setting back so the pitch pipe works exactly as it did before.
No big deal, just hoping the developers see this review and make those changes if they feel the need to. I hope they do.

Unhappy with update
I bought this app years ago and have used it every day for tuning my students. The wheel is too big now and the graphics more cartoonish looking (more 2-dimensional if I’m correct in saying?). The tuning needle stays green all the time now. It used to turn green only when you had the correct pitch which was visually helpful for my students. A step backwards from the older version so very disappointed. I NEVER write reviews so this shows how very disappointed I am.

Not loving the update!
I rarely pay for apps, but I bought this one a couple of years ago and loved it. I am a music teacher and have referred many students to this app. However, the update has made it frustrating to use for several reasons. I like the smaller size of the old tuning "wheel". This larger size seems to be more "jumpy" and is distracting. It was also very helpful to have the needle stay yellow until the correct pitch was attained (now it just stays green making more difficult to see when that pitch is achieved).
I would have rated the app 5 stars with the old version. I will probably look for a new app to use and recommend.

Seriously, thank you for the update! I don't know what I would do without this tuner. The best out there, period. Just one complaint about the new feel, the arrow pointer is now green all the time, but it used to go yellow when out of tune. It was an added perk and it would be lovely to have that feature back for the next update. Thanks, again!

Great app, lacks features from past versions
I have used this app as my only tuner since 6th grade, however the iOS 11 update removed the feature where you could “unlock” the pitch wheel, allowing you to play specific frequencies through the app. I continue to use the app, however I hope the developer will add this feature back. Also, I feel that the pitch wheel interface is slightly clunky and could use some adjusting.

Formerly great app
I used to love this app. It WAS beautiful, accurate, and easy to use. But with this first update in years, its become unusable for me. It seems like a hasty and thoughtless update. Even with needle damping turned off, it's incredibly slow to register changes in pitch. So slow that it's useless. The ability to turn the wheel to generate any pitch (such as in-between pitches, outside of the set temperament) is gone, with the disappearance of the padlock at the bottom. Finally, it doesn't force the screen to stay on anymore, so that when practicing with a drone it shuts off after a minute - when the screen turns off. Questions sent to the developer about these issues have been unanswered. As far as I'm concerned, this "update" ruined the app.

indispensable iOS app
Very grateful this app was updated for iOS 11! It has always been one of my most-used apps and I was so afraid I would never have it again after updating to iOS 11. The new update is completely functional, though hopefully just a temporary step towards a version that continues the excellent utility of the previous version. The microtonal tuning functionality in the previous version was peerless, I hope that gets reincorporated into the new version. I’d even be willing to purchase a new version. But THANK YOU for making it 64 bit!

I never deleted this app before the update and I tapped on it by accident and it opened! I was so ecstatic, Ive never been more excited about an update for an app! No I can resume my practice just as I did before! Thank you so much for updating this wonderful app! One thing I did notice however... I like to play the drone through a Bluetooth speaker so I can hear it as I’m playing a passage, and now it won’t play through my speaker. My metronome does, so this is a little disappointing. But this is a minor thing compared to how great this app is! Thank you again!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!! . I’ve been a professional musician since 1980 and this is BY FAR the best and most accurate guitar tuner I’ve ever used. I was devastated when IOS 11 came out and the tuner wasn’t working. Thanks for the quick update. The temperament function really makes it worth it, too. Ever since I read an article in an article in Disc Makers Blog, I’ve used it regularly. Below is a brief section from that article:

This tuning method is also great for using a capo.
Now, your mileage may vary. Your guitar is different than Taylor’s guitar. Your action may be higher. Maybe you play harder. Maybe you don’t use capos. Try it out and adjust your tuning as need be.

Excellent tuner!
Update 2017: This was the app I was most concerned about possibly losing in the switchover to exclusively 64-bit apps for iOS 11. Now Cleartune has been updated to function in iOS 11, and I am greatly relieved. It's (still) an excellent tuner. If you're looking for a tuner, you should buy this one.
Previous review: I've had this tuner for quite a while now, and use it to tune multiple and various instruments, from my uke to my piano. It's been very precise and reliable. Highly I recommend it.

September 19th
This wonderful tuner is the only one in the App Store that really works and that I know I can trust. It's really accurate and easy to read and understand. Today I just found out by looking in my settings that this app is not compatible with the IOS 11 update. I was really disappointed by that because I need this app to tune my instrument, and it's hard to find a really good tuner. Could you update its compatibility please?

Plz update!!
I can’t believe the incredibly fabulous reviews Cleartune gets, Yet has such incredibly poor support. I am also a big fan and extremeley disappointed to hear there is no update available. I certainly hope this is a temporary issue and that an update is on the way. This is a wonderfully useful app.

The Best
I've used this app tuner for years and find it to be the most accurate out there. Apple however has advised that the app in its present state will not function with future upgrades of their iOS.....will the developers be upgrading the app soon? I'd hate not being able to rely on the Cleartune app in the future.

Great but please update
My music teacher recommended this to me years ago and I love it so much more than the other tuning apps. The only problem is that it needs to be updated or else it may stop working when you update your iOS. Please developers update it otherwise I have to get a lesser app that I don't enjoy as much as this one.

Best tuner I have tried - please update
I have tried about 10 tuning apps from the App Store. I keep returning to this one. Simply the most elegant and the most accurate. I'm disappointed that the operating system keeps telling me that this app needs to be updated to continue to work. Hello Cleartune, please update this app to current specifications. I don't want to lose you.

The BEST tuner - hands down!
I tried three others, paid good money for them, settled on one for awhile but I just wasn't happy with it. This one is great - powerful and elegant. You won't regret it. (Update: hmmmm...after the new iPhone upgrade 10.3.2, Apple says this app will no longer work on future upgrades. That's disappointing!)

Updates?
Both this and very sadly Stagepass are not updated anymore for compabillity anymore. This app made me buy an Iphone. Now I have to keep a couple of phones from updating to new ios! Stagepass has been taken off the app store. This is a serious loss! Please save the Stagepass app. It is totally unique and there is nothing like it. The effort is also like no other app out there. Again I am saving a couple of phones just for these 2 apps please don't loose them. Update them! I will pay for the update!! Stagepass is a gem!!

Good
A good tuner app. I've been using it since an iPhone 4 and it has always been fantastic. However recently an alert popped up every time I open it, informing me that the developer needs to update this app to improve compatibility. By the time iOS 10.3 is released, this app will be irrelevant and probably won't even launch until it gets updated to 64-bit support. The future of all good apps. Please update this app so I don't have to buy a new tuner app!

Best tuner I've used.
I am a guitar teacher and I use this all the time. It works very well. It doesn't jump around like a lot of other tuners do. Gets you perfectly in tune, and I mean perfectly in tune. It's very easy to use. Although recently the orientation quit working. So if I turn my phone upside down it is upside down too. It use to stay upright all the time. Tech support reply fast too.

Wonderful
As a string teacher I use this app on a daily basis and I love it. It hears string bass notes which is super helpful and works well on harmonics as well! Love it. My only suggestion/request is can we add a widget to the today screen/notification bar? I would love to not have to unlock my phone every time a student bumps their instrument and I have to retune everything. That tiny change would revolutionize time management in the classroom setting.

Great app but...
I've had this app for quite a while now and have thoroughly enjoyed its usefulness. With Apple's recent updates and such the tuner lost its controllability.
My needle now dances all over the place and I have contacted the company regarding this and they said they were working on a fix but I haven't seen one and it has been months now.
My wife has the same app but hasn't updated her iOS and the app works flawlessly.
I'm still waiting for the newest update for the erratic needle fix.

Very cool. Test your hearing.
I bought it to tune my guitar and to just play with sounds. However, I discovered it is an excellent way to test your hearing. Turn the volume down some and use a good set of earphones to test your hearing for losses. People with hearing loss could actually use this to track the character of their hearing loss over time. Musicians or people who like to listen to loud music could use it to be sure they're not losing hearing as time goes on. Useful.

Great Tool Does What It Says on the Tin
Cleartune works great (I'm currently using a 5S) for tuning my acoustic guitars. I couldn't be happier with it.
When it comes to tuners, I mostly just want a tool that does its job and then gets out of the way. At this, Cleartune succeeds and also manages to look beautiful along the way.
It's a great tool that I use all the time.

Gold Standard!
This is the gold standard of tuners. You can tune a piano with this puppy. I prefer this to many of my high-priced digital and analog tuners that cost hundreds of dollars. I’ve been using this for five years, and I couldn’t count a single thing I could do without in musical performance with my best guitars, short of this one elegant iPhone app. Enjoy! Best of the Best!

Ok, but not great really
Nice tuner.... Sometimes. Sometimes it's stable, but all too often it gyrates wildly trying to figure out what tone it's hearing, as opposed to other tuners which never seem to have this crazy problem. Otherwise nice aesthetic UI, and the chromatic wheel tuner is nice and easy to read. Great for just wanting to know what note a sound is, like for singing. Just wish the dev could fix the instability issues which keep cropping up too often for me.

Great app, but...
This app hasn't been working since I got an iPhone 5C (hence an OS upgrade). I tried everything to get it to work, and finally tonight I found their Facebook page and the solution. Why isn't it posted here?? It's a great app, but this info should be posted clearly in the app description here.
Next, the developers should work on a port of the old application called "Intonation Trainer"--a great program that was marketed incorrectly that I found indispensable for teaching students how to tune chords and intervals and to make an intonation map when evaluating new horns. I think these guys could make a really elegant version.
If they edit this page, I will happily add that final star….

Outstanding Tuner
This makes tuning my harpsichord relatively simple. I especially like the pointer that turns green when you are just a few cents away, and the feature that keeps the tool running for the whole tuning session, so you don't have to keep swiping the iPad screen to keep the device from going to sleep. Outstanding!

Fantastic! Really useful :D
I find that this tuner is very accurate for my trumpet, and the options make it very easy to switch from tuning my trumpet, to tuning my bass for jazz band. Or my guitar when I'm at home. It has plenty of other options I should know how to use, but I really don't, know... Tons of useful stuff for anyone who does know though!!!

A great tuner
I have had no problems with the tuner, and our band director used it for about 3 years until he wanted a more feature-filled app. (I don't blame him considering that he used his phone to tune, record, and act as a metronome.)
As a bassist, sometimes it's hard for me to tell when I'm out of tune, especially on the E string. I have always gotten it down to a T when tuning using this.
For guitar and bass players (maybe all string instruments?), my other strings tend to ring out when I tune, and that causes the app to spin pretty badly. As long as all my other strings are muted, it works fine.
For those rating it very lowly because it's not working: Have you tried using another person's phone/iPod? I watched a friend of mine use this to tune a piano and his trumpet.

Love this tuner
I have two tuners that I just bought this one and a 30$ tuner for my guitar. Well after using both I haven't touched my 30$ tuner, I use this for every instrument I own guitar, trumpet, trombone, and tuba and I never plan to look back if you need a tuner this is a great app that I would advise over many store bought tuners. Plus this is equipped with your phone so it's just one less item to carry around with all your band equipment. So all in all I advise this app very precise and usefulo

Hooray!
Finally, a tuner app that works for classical musicians! So many of the most popular tuner applications are for guitarists, so it was really refreshing to find this one. I love the ability to choose key and notation system and adjust the calibration of the tuning pitch. All though I don't do much historical performance, those who do will appreciate the wide array of different temperaments to choose from. The only thing I wish this app had was a better background noise dampener for use during orchestra warm up.

Amazing!
This app I could go on and on about how good this app is for tuning. I am a violinist and this app helps tune to the finest sound you can make on you instrument. When I want to tune to a certain string I can lock it onto a certain string and and look at the top of the screen to tune it perfectly. This is a great app and is better than all of my handheld tuners combined!

Works great!
This app is a life saver. It is extremely accurate. We have several tuners lying around but I always reach for my phone. I have tuned every guitar I own from acoustics to bass guitars and never had a problem with a note registering.
I plug the guitar into my phone when tuning. I have used the iPhone built in mic before and it worked fine as well. Those complaining about certain notes or frequencies not picking up can blame the mic not the app. If you are having an issue like this, try moving the soundhole itself closer to the mic.

Best Tuner I've Found
Hands down, the best digital tuner I've ever used. Looks good, simple, easy to read, with a phenomenal sample rate..plus more options than you probably know what to do with. I love how I can even tune in non-even temperament. This app is more accurate and reliable than some $20 stand-alone tuners. Well worth the price, especially since you always have your phone on you. Looks even better on the iPad. Good job, developers. Thank you. :)

Great with an iRig
This tuner works great with the phones built in mic on an acoustic guitar. It works ok on an unplugged electric if you hold it really close to the strings, but for electric it really shines when connected through an iRig(I'm sure other similar adapters work fine too).
I've used this on iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iPhone 5. My main use is still on my old iPhone 4 which I keep around as a beater for just this type of use. I'm guessing this would have worked fine on my 3G while I still had it if I hadn't killed its usefulness by installing iOS 4 on it which slowed it to a crawl.

Love this app
I play the cello and well it works and it's awesome, I would recommend it for anyone. The ONLY thing was that I wanted to use a G as a drone because I was playing something in G Major so I turned on the G to the loudest volume setting on my iPhone and after it damaged my speaker and now my speaker is basically broken, so I would recommend not putting the volume all the way up if you want to use the tuner as a drone, either that or use other headphones or heavy duty speakers if you want to use a note as a drone.

Pretty good app, but
This app does better than other tuning apps, but it sometimes loses the note from my viola if I'm not exactly in tune. It will spin around on notes that are not even close to what I'm playing. Also, I want to have my metronome on my bluetooth headphones, while practicing my scales and pieces so this app won't hear the metronome sound, but when I open ClearTune, it sends the metronome sound to my iPhone5's external speakers - which is bad.
