Backup Does Not Work
I have used this app for over 10 years. I loved it and had it rated five stars. Now, I am about to upgrade phones and have been told that none of my decade of markers and notes will transfer over to the new device. They will not backup to my Mantis account and there is no help coming from customer service other than to delete the app and reinstall.

Wonderful Bible App
I love this app. Have used it for years. Note: The update where we had to create new user accounts was tough. To get the purchased Bibles into the library after following the instructions wasn’t working. I restored the purchases and nothing. However I uninstalled the app and reinstalled and they were all there. Phew.

I’ve had mantis Bible study app for many years. This is the most support – unfriendly apps I’ve ever used. My select/copy/paste feature disappeared from the app, so I deleted the app, and download it again. Now all of my in app purchases are gone, and good luck ever trying to get a hold of tech-support!

Abandoned?
Like others have said, I loved this app, but it appears to have been abandoned by the developer. I can log in, but none of my Bibles or other purchases appear. Apparently it updated to a new version and everything was lost. I tried restoring purchases but I get an error message. The website is unhelpful and I have just given up. Sad to see it go, but not worth the trouble to figure out how to get everything back. Very Doisy.

Common Spanish version (RV60)with typos
Using this app on a daily basis, I have encountered a good number of verses with typos: Spanish accented characters, being shown as codes. For example:
Acts 23:3a in RV60:

The words that appear ad <>, <>, and <>; are:

The verse should thus say:

If I am provided with an email, I may reply with all the specific text in which I have encountered these, and similar, typos.

Does not show bookmarked verse previous anymore. I am Very sad
Si many years, working hard to build my favorite topic/folders of favorite verses, so when I needed them they will be there quickly available, AND I could quickly see the preview to select the verse that I needed. Mantis doesn’t do this anymore.
I am stuck with this one after spending money in bibles and commentaries…but rely on Holy Bible app for verse search alternative.
It seems this one has been left abandoned. Once the best study bible app out there with incredible bookmarks capabilities. Very sad because there no other app out there that does what Mantis used to do… that simple and well.

Don't buy, abandoned
This was once the best Bible study app available, with top notch customer support & features. I've invested substantially in commentaries & other material via in-app purchases, but now it probably won't work on your phone or iPad, especially if it's a relatively new one. It hasn't worked consistently on mine for several years. I used to get angry when an app I invested in would be abandoned & eventually stop working but that's the nature of the digital world we live in. It's the rare developer that stays in business for decades now.

Don’t buy. Abandonware
I’ve been with Mantis for over a decade, investing in many bible translations and books. Unfortunately, I’ve upgraded my devices many times since anyone at Mantis has updated their app. Their website has been unchanged for years and while they gladly take money from customers, their contact us page doesn’t work and they don’t respond to emails. With my latest phone update, my password no longer works to restore purchases and it seems nobody is around to help. If the company does revive itself I will update this review but as of now my purchases are worthless.

Favorite Bible Study App
With so many Bible apps out there, Mantis uniquely lets me view cross references without leaving the verse I was studying. With the NASS, I can see other uses of Greek words and even their root words without leaving the verse I was studying. I haven’t found any other resource quite like it.

App does not seem to be working… Tried to reach out for support but to no avail.. The app is not loading the commentaries I’ve purchased.. and I can’t seem to get the developers to help. Apple support says they cannot help.. I would think twice about using this app and purchasing books on it.. There is no help … would like to rewrite this review if someone could fix the problem…

Excellent app but no support
I purchased this app years ago for my phone. I have used it almost every day. It is a really great app, and I like the Bible versions that are available. The problem is that there is absolutely no support. My iphone is now so old that it will not update to the latest versions, but I cannot transfer any of my purchases to my new iPad or a new phone, so once I go to a new phone, I will lose all the money that I have paid for added Bible versions. I have sent numerous emails to the company, but there is nobody left to respond. I used an email when I was in school, and now that email is no longer valid, but the app does not allow me to put in a new email, and there is nobody left at the company to even read emails or respond to them to assist me. it is one of the best apps out there, but I highly recommend that you never buy additional versions.

Useful, but frustrating
Frustrating. Upgraded to Mantis X a few years ago and ever since it’s been Impossible to access my notes. The bookmarks, notes, & etc are lumped into a new feature, & impossible to figure out how to find any of it, after years of trying. Mantis claims the notes are not lost, but good luck proving that.
Lesson: keep your Bible notes on paper, because app developers periodically have “great new ideas” that don’t pan out. The three stars are for the NASB with Strongs, search tool & options (still easy & intuitive), as well as many multiple translations available.

Great App!
Yes the app is free and the add-one expensive, but any study books I buy are expensive. I am just happy to hav ethem on the go. Studying the word is an ivestment in time as well as money. If you want a bible reader this may not be the program for you, if you want study software look no further. Thanks for the app and the support!

Bought this for what?
I bought this app and for some reason the owner has stopped updating it after taking peoples money. There should be a refund issued. Now if the developers are deceased now. I apologize. But if they are still living , it is wrong to have people buying the full version if you are not going to keep the app up and running.

Lost all my previous purchases
I had used Mantis for a number of years. Then the upgraded app came out.
I could not get into my account for the longest time, and sent messages to Mantis and the developers many times with absolutely no response.
Furthermore, I cannot recover my previous purchases. Unless there is some specific resource you really want and only Mantis carries it, I recommend you look elsewhere for a better Bible app.
Very disappointed in this app upgrade. Apparently, before release, they did not do much beta testing. My guess is that they will soon go to the bottom of the pile in terms of users.

Love it
I think I’ve had mantis since my first iPhone 3 maybe 10 years ago or so. I couldn’t love it more! I spent maybe $50 on the new American standard with strongs, the BDB Hebrew dictionary, and the TGD Greek.
I love being able to tap a word and instantly see the Hebrew or Greek, and all the definitions, usages, and cross references. This was the best $50 I ever spent!

5-Star Bible app - 1 Star because of privacy
This is the most powerful Bible app you will ever find. It makes jumping between translations a breeze. It integrates Strongs concordance beautifully. It makes searching quick and powerful.
I would give this app 5 stars except that it pastes your clipboard to its server every time you open it. There is no good reason for this and so I give this app 1 star until this is corrected.

Is this company still out there?
I’ve used this Bible since the original iPhone. Now I’ve apparently upgraded added too far and my purchases didn’t come over to my iPhone 13.
Their process for resetting my account doesn’t work and emails to the company support page go unanswered.
I love the program and how it works. I’m happy to pay for it vs using you version for free. But I’m not happy being left stuck.
If you’re not out there to support your product, take it off the App Store and shut down your web site

Beware of ignored bugs
All software has bugs. I get that. I understand it. But the worse big is one that the builder ignores. I’ve been using this app for more than 10 years. I’ve purchased over $500 worth of add on content. I loved it.
But in the past year I’ve lost the ability to create notes and connect to a passage. I can create the note but as soon as I leave the chapter when I come back the notes are gone. I’ve shared this with the builder dozens of times. Sent videos showing the bug. My requests for an explanation or a fix seem to fall on deaf ears.
As a result I’m reluctantly forced to leave the app and all of my content investments and find another. That grieves me. I don’t know the makeup of this company. Perhaps a single individual who has become uninterested? I don’t know. Hard to find out.
Bugs I understand. But ignoring those bugs is simply not acceptable for me. This decision will cost me. I will lose 10 years of personal bible notes. I will lose over $500 of content. But I must have an app which supports personal notes in my bible at a verse level.

Beware greedy developer
I used to love this app. Spent lots of money but got my buck’s worth. And then... update of app... couldn’t restore most of my purchases so, correct me if I’m wrong, Mr. Mantis, but that seems a brilliant way to make money. I tried to get support, but couldn’t. So, too bad there is NO integrity. I refuse to trust my money with purchasing something from some company which has used an upgrade as a way to keep the money coming in. No real effort here. If Mr. Mantis, your developers are true Christians, I’d repent.

An easy to use and powerful Bible study tool
Mantis Bible Study is an easy to use and powerful Bible study tool that works across all my Apple platforms — iPad, iPhone & Mac desktop. Over the years I have built up a deep resource of versions, commentaries and dictionaries that enable me to access English and original language tools. I especially like the NASB with Strongs, the Greek with Strongs, the NET Bible Premium Edition, Brown-Drivers-Briggs, TDNT, and the varied study Bible notes that are offered. I have all of these resources in books, but Mantis makes accessing the information much faster. GREAT TOOL !!!

Need help
I guess I need to write a review in the hopes of getting help from the company. I purchased many books in 2010. I haven’t used Mantis for a few years as I’ve been using Olive Tree. I’m now trying to restore my purchases to my iPad. They do show up on my account on the website, but I find no info for restoring and no email or phone number to contact for help. The FAQ don’t offer an answer either. The only thing it says is to set up a new account, then log in with my old account info, which I did, and they would import to my device but there’s nothing showing to be imported. At this point, quite a bit of money has been wasted since I can’t restore my purchases.

We can’t copy and paste scripture from reading the bIble section to other apps anymore, you used to be able to select a scripture with a finger touch and then copy and paste but not anymore... please fix

Do not buy anything from them.
I use to love this bible study. It now there is no customer support. Had all my bibles and I would prepare studies, sermons and teachings. I’ve taken it to Siberia, Trinidad, Paris, London, Germany, Mexico, and several places in India. I’m not sure what has happened to the company. Ive tried contacting them several times to get help with the simplest things. There is zero customer support. The new version won’t even copy and paste. So frustrating. Especially since I’ve spent so much money and Ive used it for years. Very disappointing.

Okay as a bible, not reliable for bible study notes
This application will drop notes, and frustrate anyone trying to replace their paper bible with this application. The search capability is okay and some reference capabilities but how it “loses” the notes has led me to delete the app.

They ruined a great app
This used to be the best Bible app there was. Then they created X and ruined it. I can’t even add a note. They never make updates. I have spent over $100 I guess on commentaries and now I am having to switch to another app.

Started off well
I like this program. It used to work very well. However it hasn’t seemed to keep up with the iOS updates from Apple. Program locks up which forces me to delete then reinstall everything. There are a few other bugs as well that I’ve reported to company.
Mantis also used to be an option in the Reading Plan that I use so you’d open that plan for the day, it would list what you’re supposed to read in the Bible that day, click on the book and chapter and it would automatically open Mantis to that book and chapter. Now Mantis is not even listed in that same reading plan.
The amount of resources available are great. Most of them have to be purchased of course.
Overall it’s a great program that simply needs to be seriously updated.

No longer supported?
I would be careful about buying this app. I have had it for years and have purchased many Bibles and commentaries on it. It has always been buggy but recently started entering notes in it only to find that sometimes they were saved and sometimes not. Also I note that there have been no updates in over 8 months and the last entry on Facebook is 2012!. Likewise, their videos on YouTube are all sadly outdated. I suspect it is no longer being kept up to date. That is sad.

I used to love this app.
I used to love this app. I use my iPad as my Bible. I got tired of my Bible wearing out and losing all my notes, etc. So I started using Mantis. Very simple yet powerful, and completely offline, no need for internet.
Things I love(d):
- Inline items such as notes and Strong's.
- Inline drill downs for note hyperlinks and Strong's
- Strong's is only underlined, making reading easy still
- Automatic hyperlinks in notes to a verse when you type it out.
- Bookmarks organized by folders makes studying topics a breeze.
No other Bible app provides the simplicity and effectiveness of Mantis as a study tool. No, it doesn't have audio. But that's fine w me. But with the new update, things just don't work, at all. I can't save a bookmark. The search area doesn't scroll sometimes so I can't open all the results. Opening and editing notes Inline doesn't always work.
I'm literally praying they fix this app. It can be the best. Before the recent overhaul, I hadn't updated Mantis in YEARS, because there was no update lol. And I still preferred it over all other newer style apps. And I've tried them all.

The best, not necessarily the most popular
I have used mantis for 15 years now. I have tried all the other main bible apps which have similar features and always find mantis to me to be more useful for study and researching words. They are still in transition of redoing the platform to be compatible with the latest iOS operating system but it works fine. Very helpful staff if you need to email for help. Highly recommend!!

DONT BUT IT!!! DONT DOWN LOAD IT.
When I 1st got this years ago it was the best thing I could have. I could go to a restaurant and have access to an extensive library of commentary’s, Bible versions, etc. but like must companies. They don’t understand - if it’s not broken stupid, why fix it - they call themselves up dating it. They have ruined it. I cannot even change the Bible’s I need to search. Where is costumer service? It done by email or search. I have 55 addition books that purchased from them. So you can just imagine the amount I have invested in this app. And it’s a disappointment. I would rather have my money back. Don’t buy it.

This app used to be the best Bible reader on the market. Now it is quite possibly the worst. Selecting Bible verses is hit or miss now since barely pressing on the screen while scrolling will cause you to go to the wrong book. Don’t bother going back that will exit instead of taking you back. Notes and search are now broken too. The old search was so helpful. Now the search is extremely finicky and groups all the verses so you are forced to click to expand the blocks. Please fix the glitches and bring back the old search, bookmarks and notes features. 🙏
You removed all the various font styles. Please bring back "courier new".

Almost there
Long time Mantis user glad that materials are available again. In iPhone it’s back to being a great resource where I can flip easily between Pages and Mantis for bible study or note taking. Now that I’ve started using iPad more in these situations, Mantis would do well to take advantage of the split-screen modes available with iOS 11. Wouldn’t it be great to mimic the natural experience of having a bible open next to word processing or note-taking apps?

For Serious Students of the Bible
Have used Mantis for years. Especially helpful during a sermon to spot check the preacher for accuracy and to review theological comment for another perspective. Having a dozen different Bibles at your fingertips, commentaries, Greek and Hebrew word studies, dictionaries and other resources is priceless. The add ons are worth every penny. The guys who provide support are extremely helpful and supportive. They are also servants in their own churches. Yes, there are occasional glitches but it always gets corrected. I would never be without this mobile theological library.

Used to be the best
This ap used to be the best until recent update oct 2017 or so. Markers do not work as good as notes did. Mantis used to have unique features it’s competitors did not have. After the upgrade they have less features than their competitors. Lord willing they will implement prior features and the i will change my rating to 5stars. Many other people commented that it wasn’t broke why did they try and fix it. A complete tear down wasn’t necessary. I invested a lot of time and money into this ap and it pains me to have to switch to a competitors platform.

Needs a little work.
I loved this app.....before it was updated. It has a clunky feel now. What I really am disappointed about is the search function. We used to be able to narrow our searches down to even one book of the Bible, but don't have that option yet. I hope that ability is coming....?! And that is the reason for two stars: one of my main uses of the app is the search function.
Another problem is that I have had to repeatedly reload my purchased items. I have several translations downloaded but, every so often, only the KJV is loaded and I have to restore my purchases again. So, not only is the app clunky, the search function practically useless, but it doesn’t work right, either.
It’s really too bad because I found this app quite useful before it was”improved.”
I have now switched to Olive Tree. It wasn’t as good as Mantis before but us fat better now.

What happened to the search engine?
Since I grew up on the KJV, I still use it to search for scriptures. The Mantis app used to be great for scripture searches. Just enter a couple of key words and voila! It was done. However, since the ‘new and improved’ version came out, it does not work well at all. For instance, if you were searching for 2 Samuel 11:1, you could enter the words kings and battle and it would come up quickly. But no longer. The search would produce “0” results under the new version. My go to app is no longer reliable for this.

Update. Still needs major improvement
This was supposed to be a big improvement but I don’t see how. The entire layout has changed to the point where it not only looks like a whole different app, it behaves like one. Bringing up side by side comparisons is more cumbersome than it used to be, bookmarking isn’t what it used to be.
Well, they fixed the search problem but it’s still more complicated than it should be. I.e. for me to be able to highlight text in NASS, I have to go into settings, turn off Strong’s, exit settings, highlight my text (which is still complicated) go back into settings, turn Strong’s back on, and then exit settings.
I have an idea..... bring back the old Mantis, make it iOS 11 compatible, and call it Mantis Original. Problem solved.

Back and better than ever.
This is by far my favorite bible app. I’ve used it for ten years. The recent update was long overdue but it’s finally here and I love it. I’m able to see the original Greek and Hebrew words and their definitions with just a tap. Commentaries on each verse are a click away. I do wish they would bring back being able to turn the page with a swipe anywhere on the screen instead of having to click at the top arrow but that’s minor.

Not as good as before
I’m glad to see Mantis back as an app however I am having difficulty tapping open a verse which exposes my selected references material and comparisons Bibles. I usually hit a word that then wants to be highlighted and then tap, tap, tap trying to open the verse. Same for trying to close. Hopefully this will be addressed in a new fix! I did find however that if I increase the font size it helps with the tapping in order to open and close a verse! Other than that I love the app and use it often!

I have used this app for years. It has become an invaluable resource. Sadly, it's been so long since the developer has updated it that it no longer works with the most current version of IOS. Obviously, the developer has given up on it. I'm sorry to see it go.

Disappointment!
Credit should be given to Mantis for not abandoning its customers when iOS 11 proved incompatible with their original bible app. (But it also needs to be said that I spent many more dollars, collectively, on Mantis bible versions and multiple commentaries than I ever invested in any other iOS app!) Unfortunately, the newly updated product looks primitive when compared to the the beautifully efficient study bible being replaced. Plus it offers fewer display options. Finally, restoring all of my past purchases remains, as with past updates, troublesome.

Hopeful, but frustrated
A long time user of Mantis Bible Study, I had upgraded to iOS 11 only to discover that Mantis 4 no longer worked. So I was glad to see that Mantis X has finally been released, as I use the app daily and have invested lots of time in it.
However this 10.1.5 release feels still a bit green. Scrolling is missing, as well as numerous other features of the previous app. Bookmarks (now markers) behave very differently - I’d like the option to see only those markers in a selected folder as before, not all markers all the time, although the ability to see all markers in all folders is a good new feature. The conversion of old bookmarks creates markers with strange titles instead of the complete reference.
In short, glad to see the app is now available, a bit frustrated with the ‘conversion experience’ (sic), and hoping to see point releases in the very near future to fix bugs and add missing features!

It's so cool to tap your way through God's word and learn so much more in so much less time. The addons are pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. Can't wait for iPhone 5 support!

I almost can’t imagine a world without my mantis Bible research program. I have used mantis for many years and appreciate all of its useful original language helps. Now that mantis is also available for my Macintosh computer I’m as excited as I could be. This is the best there is!!!

No problems, Great App!
UPDATE: Mantis WAS one of the finest bible study apps out there, and I have spent what I consider a lot of money on it and love it BUT the company seems to have “given up the ghost” since they no longer do updates on the app. I pray they someone will get busy and do what is necessary to make the app work with IOS 11. I can still use the app on my older devices and still think of it as being worthy of five stars, but when I think of all the money I have spent on this app it makes my heart ache.

This bible system can do anything you can afford. I currently have five versions of the bible and five commentaries. I use the app every day. It is my greatest asset for bible study.

Please update this app
Each time my iphone updates I notice that this app hasn't had an update since 2013. Please update the features so that I don't lose my capability to use this app. Everytime I try to save through iCloud or other external saving method, I lose information in my notes so I stopped saving a lot of things now. But this is the only app I use because other apps don't have all types of Bible versions, free or for purchase.

Please, please update this app for the latest iOS. I, like others I'm sure, have years of highlighting and notes invested in this app (not to mention the most money I ever spent on an app). Bible study is so important that I'd be so sad to lose all of what I accomplished.
Overall the app itself has great functionality and a nice user interface. I'd give it 5 stars if it were kept up to date.

PLEASE UPDATE FOR iOS 11!!
iOS 11 is due to be released soon and this, my favorite Bible app, will not work with the new system. PLEASE make the changes necessary to keep this app up and running smoothly! I would hate to lose such a great resource by being left behind the technological progress.

Love the app
Only problem is when you share multiple verses by holding your finger on a word and highlight several verses, it doesn't prompt your keyboard to open when sharing via email. Keyboard should prompt for me to type the name of the recipient I would like to share with and also allow me to type the verses I'm sharing. This is only when you manually highlight verses to share by dragging your finger over several verses, and share via email, it needs to prompt your keyboard to open to select names in your contact list. I you fix this I would rate this app a five star

love this App Keep it up to date with iOS
This app is superb! Please keep up with the updates to this app. This is a very simple study bible app with a lot of value. The difference between this app and others is that they are not as easy to use! This app is super simple and easy to use with or without your hard cover bibles.
I've been using this app for 6+ years and every time I get a new iPhone I can always count on this app to have all my apps all my purchases and bookmarks and even my history is still available.

Good, but It needs work
The Bible intergration software is great. Everything is at your finger tips and you have the all collections. You can create your own study bible with tools your desire. The thing its very limited and updates are not very often. The books/bible are also limited. You only get four colors to choose from to high light and they only show up on book you have open at the time. Which means, if you have one KJV open and high light it, the highlight will not show up if you have NLT open. It would nice to be able to have an option to underline, in a manner you would with my own bible. I have a love hate relationship with this application. The highlighting can be cumbersome and crashes, if it did not like something. Their cusotmer service is great and they respond within reason.

Love this Bible app and the people who created it
I have used this Bible app for years. It is fabulous. I can type my own notes within the text, highlight in different colors, bookmark, study, memorize, and quickly look at scripture references as I read. It truly has everything I could want in a Bible and I can take it with me wherever I go. I too own an I-phone and it crashed after installing an update. I thought everything I had was gone forever. I finally had to uninstall and reinstall, and was sad that my NIV version was gone along with everything else. I contacted the company as a last ditch effort and they responded almost instantly. They explained how to get back in to an account I didn't know I even created and they helped me get my Bible back with all of my notes! I was so relieved! Be sure to create an account and backup your Bible often, and you will love this app!

Tried again and it works great!
I was ready to give this one star, but on my 2nd try to to download Mantis to my new iPad Air2 (iOS 9.2) it was smooth. It even remembered me (iPad was set up as a former one), so I didn't have to look up my password and user name to download my Bibles, commentaries, etc. It looks like they haven't done an update since 2013, but I can't believe it is totally abandoned since mine is working smoothly.

Mantis crashings
I use an iPhone, and iPad with the latest iOS 8.4.1 update. The app continues to crash. The app has very valuable tools, and they are much needed on a daily basis. One thing we have learned is not to do anything that will be a grievous burden to others, and not to provoke (i.e., irritate) one another according to Galatians 5:26.
That said, and along with the customer's needs and satisfaction being one of the highest (if not the highest) rate of concern with the company providing the service, there has to be a way for the Mantis' technical staff to find a solution, and meet their customer's satisfaction. Besides, the customers are the main reason why Mantis is still operational.
Please consider fixing the problem, and eliminate the discomfort that it causes when it crashes. I have been a customer for at least 12 years. That alone speaks volumes.

Great idea, but buggy app
I used to love the app for its many functions. However, even after deleting the app, re-installing and restoring bookmarks as instructed on their website, it still is a buggy app. For instance, the highlighting feature either gives and error message or crashes. This is very frustrating, particularly when in church and trying to focus on the message. Again, while I love the concept and have purchased multiple translations for use on this app, it is unreliable.

It seems the mantis developer has abandoned us
This has been by far the best bible app I've ever had until the last iOS update. It began crashing every time so I reinstalled it and restored all my notes and bookmarks. However the multiple purchases I had made over the years would not restore. I tried multiple times and even deleted and reinstalled multiple times. I went to the mantis website and contacted them through their response form explaining the situation. It's been weeks and I have received no response. This app has been and can be fantastic but the lack of support is making it almost useless to me now. I hope it can be restored to what it was before and if so I will write a glowing review. But as of now I can't recommend it to anyone. (Which is a shame because I've recommended it to numerous people over the years)

Show a little grace
I see CHRISTIANS really ripping on the Mantis people and giving low ratings because they had problems BROUGHT ON BY APPLE'S IOS 8.0 "UPGRADE". Let that soak in. Vent your fury on the right people.
I had problems too - it would NOT run, and I had to uninstall then reinstall it. Fortunately, I had exercised basic computer common sense and periodically backed up all my personal settings on Mantis' server (for free). The reinstall was easy - their servers remembered me once I logged in, and I easily reinstalled all my purchased bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, etc.
What more do you want the Mantis people to do about this? Send a tech over to your house and write a custom program for your unique problem? Lighten up.

iOS 8 crashing solution
For those of you who have had this app crash on you since the release of iOS 8, delete the app from your device and redownload it from the App Store. It fixed the crashing problem for me, and is working as well as it did before the update
