Description

Morse-It is an easy to use application that allows to translate, interpret, type, learn, convert Morse code, and much more.
It is retina display enhanced, universal binary (run on iPhone/iPod and iPad), and is compatible with VoiceOver.
Type some text and it will be automatically encoded into some fullscreen flashing effect of the associated Morse code.
The flash light of your device will also be used.
Your "SOS" messages will be seen quite far away !
Some sound will also be played accordingly. In detailed mode, the text being encoded is scrolling through the decoding process.
Tap some morse code onto the screen and the program will translate it into some text.
Different input types are handled : Novice, Straight key, Memory Paddle, Iambic Paddle (A and B), Microphone. Left and right handed modes supported.
Test and improve your skills : are you good enough to be understood?
Create audio files containing Morse code in a dynamic way or from a given text.
Use those files as you wish : listen to them to train your decoding skills or use them as ringtones for your phone.
Exclusive feature allowing to decode, in real time, the Morse code recorded from the microphone into Text (the sound must be quite clear/loud and without much noise).
Some automatic calibration is performed, allowing adaptation to speed, tone and volume changes.
The full Morse alphabet can also be consulted and the associated Morse code can be played.
Tapped and decoded text can be edited and exported to the clipboard, the In-app email and SMS.
A special screen allows textual conversion of morse code and text. Exchange encoded messages with your friends.
Wikipedia and Visual Mnemonic screens allowing to get informations and mnemonics regarding morse code.
You can also add your own web sites for an in-app consultation.
All the application is highly configurable (Frequency, WPM, tone type, color, morse characters, variables ...)
!!! As seen on TV !!! (UK) in Most Haunted Live: Apparently you can use it to communicate with ghosts (no guaranty though)
Premium features can also be unlocked as a single in-app purchase :
Koch trainer screen, CWops Academy learning method, Quiz screen, Prosigns, Macros, Dictionaries : abbreviations, QSOs, mnemonics, Timing (farnsworth) and Morse alphabet/prosigns personalization, look customization ... and more.
Morse-it is powered by Icom, a world leader in the amateur radio market.

Great teaching app! Great decoder too!

After trying half a dozen apps that were lousy, this app delivers when it comes to teaching Morse code and decoding audio Morse code on HF Ham Radio bands. Great app! Thank you from KM6HFR.

Stable and Well Thought Out

I've downloaded a few CW training apps in my on again off again autodidactic quest to master Morse. All the other apps I downloaded (some of them pretty decent) have since disappeared from the Apple Store, but Morse-It is still around. That says a lot.

Excellent training aid

I'm an old school military CW intercept technician. Cut my teeth on Chinese and Viet Cong tactical military Morse nets. This is a first-class training system, particularly since I can set parameters of all kinds. I recommend this to anyone learning Morse and for us old operators working our receive comprehension upwards from 30-wpm.

Extra Class

I have been operating for over forty years and out of a dozen or so other methods of learning Morse code I found this app to be the best. It has everything necessary already within the app to facilitate the learning process. I strongly recommend the Koch method with the speed set to at least 20 WPM and the Farnsworth slide set long enough to hear the character. Then over time reduce the slider to attain a full 20 WPM. With 2 hours a day practice, one can be proficient in less than a month.

Couldn't decode audio

I know this app is intended as a Morse trainer but I bought it for the audio decoding feature. It failed in that.
No matter how I tweaked the decode settings, it returned gibberish, maybe getting a letter right every 20 or so.
Given this is an advertised feature, it needs to work.
Sorry dev to give you a low rating, the rest of the app may be stellar but if you advertise a flawed feature and that is the sole reason a customer has bought the product, then in their eyes the product is flawed.

Very Disappointed

I want my 99 cents back. This app does not play random Morse code so you can listen and learn and test yourself. You have to buy in-app additions for that. That should be stated upfront. Very disappointing. On the positive side, it is attractively designed and easy to use.

One Of My Favorite Apps

If you want to learn Morse code and use it on the airwaves then this is for you. In an emergency situation CW transmitted by QRP could travel hundreds of miles or more with minimal power output. Learn the code, practice it with this app, use it in the real world. I especially like the encode feature. You can cut and paste any text and listen to it via Morse code. Also in the settings there are so many settings to tweak it just right. You can set the timing, speed, and tone. Once it's set, sit back, listen, and copy.

Great app for learning and exploring morse

I've tried some other offerings both online and other apps. This is the best route I've found so far to learning CW. You should plan to get the in app purchase though.
I particularly like the feature where you can tap code and get immediate feedback on how well you were understood by seeing the text form of your message. For example I meant to tap an "a" but got "et" instead. This is also interesting for seeing what mistakes turn into (eg n becomes m, a, or i).
Bottom line, I've definitely spent more time practicing since getting this app.

Excellent Morse Trainer

Edit:
I obtained my ham radio license nearly 30 years ago, when the requirement to learn Morse code still existed for a Technician's license. I haven't used Morse code since then with any regularity, and decided I wanted a refresher.
This app fits the bill perfectly, and I was more than happy to pay for the premium features. I'm sure I'll be back up to speed in no time. - .... .- -. -.- ...

Best CW App Out There

Save yourself time and frustration. BUY. THIS. APP.
I have tried every single morse code app for iOS and none of them compare to Morse-it. It is intuitively designed and beautifully polished. CW learning and practical functionality are addressed from all angles with Morse-it. There is Koch Trainer, Encode, Decode, Tap, Quiz, Convert, and you can edit spacing in Glossary (i.e., create Farnsworth spacing).
The developer never ceases to impress. You can now even adjust the color schemes of the app if you want. A black background with red text and red borders is great for preserving night vision.
This review is my thanks to PacoLabs for my favorite app on my iPad and iPod touch.

Why price "premium" features for an already priced app?

This application really is great for education, but I do not think that we need to have priced premium features because this app is already priced. It would make a lot of sense if either both the application were free and the premium features were not priced or both the application were priced and and the premium features were not priced. It must be one way or the other and not both.
It is a great application, and it ought to be reliable about its information, but it is just expensive, but, then again, the app did cost only one dollar, so I guess that I can settle with either two or three dollars for the premium features.

Morse It

Possibly the best Samuel F. B. Morse code learning tool I have ever used, and it's Free. If you are a young ham starting to explore CW I believe that this is the application you might want to start your Amateur Radio Service in CW. Phone is nice, but if you can copy and send CW, I don't think you will ever want to return to the human voice. I am not implying that I am an Electrical Engineer, but look at Penn States Alumni list. My Father whom I loved in life,as well as. He passed on January 29th, 1991 and would be an SK if he had lived long enough to receive a license. He was happiest as a SWL. A Decent App

Before you consider buying this, please know that the .99 cent version only comes with certain abilities: encoding, decoding, and a place to tap out your own Morse. Still, a good app. Fun and entertaining.

My favorite part of this app is the DECODE. Use it all the time to practice with. Recently I upgraded my smart phone, went to this app, after iCloud restored all my apps, but the DECODE no longer worked ! NU4R Sez...

To learn or polish up on your CW...this program is great! BUT...if you think you're gonna get a tolerable "decoder" that functions under say...just less than perfect conditions, forget it! Using an input from both my high end transceivers and filtering out even the vaguest of QRN and solely QRN...it's a fail in my book.
There's but one and only one reliable CW "decoder" folks. This one typically doesn't need to fiddle the radios features to filter out even the smallest of QRN issues to get a 100% copy!
It's the grey matter between your ears!

Best I found for the iPad so Far!

Not a bad app. The only thing that I wish could be changed would be the ability to have the Speed of the Tones for the characters be adjustable and independent of the spacing delay between characters. That way you have the ability to learn the rhythm of the sound for each character at a certain speed and once you know the rhythm you can decrease the time delay in between words to get your speed up.
Other than that I like it!

Not bad

very helpful in the ability to edit the cw practice list

I'm discovering new ways to use Morse-it.
Here is an example:
I want to be able to practice using the Bengali method to develop good practices, fast speed in sending and understanding.
Therefore, the first week or two, you start with letters containing only 1and 2 dots or dashes such as the letters E I T M A N.
How to setup Morse-it to help you practice:
Using Morse-it,
Under Settings, Koch Trainer, select Koch Training items.
Under Macros, select Koch Training Items, select "+", Edit, delete all characters except the letters E I T M A N.
Now when you use the Koch Trainer, it will quiz you on letters recommend by Bengali.
Note: Try it, this is hard practice, but will help in your speed and understanding CW.
After you have mastered these short combinations, reset the Macro list and then advance to the next grouping.

Nice

Best of the Morse phone apps I've seen thus far. Still some latency on the 4s. Settings changes sometimes don't register properly. Takes toggling in/out of settings menu to get them to register. Settings menu could be improved with more intuitive flow. Reproduction of real live CW tones would be nice. (Perhaps a little QRN, QRM, QSB.) Proper representation of operating abbreviations is needed, such as BK, SK, BT. Another good feature would be using the mic and camera to decode and record incoming transmissions. Would also like the ability to create CW ringtones and decoding of incoming caller IDs. CW Forever! 73 DE WA4GNI SK

Awesome application...

Never had the chance to learn it before but now this has been a very helpful tool. It is great and I'm pretty sure that we will find an upgrade soon to come to make it even better. Thanks.

A great hiker/backpacker app!

Very cool! It should be possible to use the back of the iPod Touch or original iPhone as a signal mirror during the day by following the flash patterns. I think the iPhone 3G has a round back, so it probably won't work as well. It would be nice to have a training application built in (like the game Simon) using the accelerometer to facilitate training for use as a signal mirror.

Morse-it

I love this program. It has fast become my favorite app on my iPhone. I am a radio amateur who had not touched morse for about 15 years (or radio for nearly as long). I found that after a couple of days using this, it has all come back to me... At least the sending anyway. Yes, there could be some extra features, bit for something that costs less than a cup of cover, it is a wonderfull app :)

Good idea, but needs improvement

Something sounds wrong with the dash to dot ratio... Also, I can't tap very fast--this may have to do with the screen detection speed.
For future releases, consider adding a iambic paddle to it by for example allowing users to touch the left pad of the screen for a dash and the right part for a dot...

Excellent app for the price

This little app is full of features, considering its low price. I can think of many times when this app would be useful.
For example, if you happen to be lost at see or in the woods, a flashing white light could be enough to relay your position and a simple message like "SOS".
Yes, children, there ARE people who will find this to be useful, people who venture outside the limits of cell phone reception and Internet.

Great App!

I love this app. It does what it says and very well at that! I like the fact that you can effectively turn your phone into a offline "wireless" device
