DON'T DOWNLOAD
so recently I been needing a note app for school and came across noteful so I decided to download it and there are some problems you need to fix. Number 1, THERE'S NO ERASER, it's annoying because you can't unequip the pen so when your scrolling you accidentally draw on it and there's is just no eraser. NUMBER 2, IT WON'T LET ME MOVE IMAGES because when you need to put a few images on and it won't let you move it it's annoying

Almost perfect
Handwriting is very iffy. While almost better than goodnotes, it has issues with random stops where my letter would finish despite me still finishing. There would also be connections between letters despite me lifting the pencil.
I had to export my notes. The app crashed my files app and noteful itself.

It gets zoo ed in by itself sometimes & sometimes the pen strokes goes on by itself.

Which I could do more with lines.
Love the app so much, however I wish I could do more than one straight line at a time. I make brackets ([ or ]) a lot. and i like them looking nice and near bur I cant get them the way want them to be like i could in good notes. Same with any other shapes like squares and triangles.

Best note-taking app on the market
I use Noteful for everything. Organizing documents/pdfs/etc.
This app is a one time purchaseā¦.which immediately makes it destroy the other premium apps.
Love the zoom-ability.
Lots more good stuff to be said about Noteful. You wonāt be disappointed. Try the free version to start and upgrade for super cheap if you like it.
Seriously canāt recommend it enough.

Perfect for note taking
I just wanted something to replace the default notes app to do math problems on, and I wasnāt looking for a whole hub of note taking software, as I enjoy using my Google drive and other Google programs. This is the perfect addition to my arsenal

Nice app but needs some developments
Really good app , so satisfied with all the amazing features in it but we need to backup our notebooks to iCloud or google drive so we could access them from everywhere I tried to turn on the backup feature but whenever it goes to the drive it says the file type is not supported .

Hard to access adv features
Could not find the help button Could not see how to add a layer Instructions once I found help by going to App Store and then to developers web site were not helpful, I could not see what they said would be there. Starting out I had to look hard to just find out how to create a new doc. Terrible getting started experience on the iPhone. Will give iPad a try, hopefully better. Most apps you can just start using, not this one.
Tried to create an outline I said had and Iām not sure where the outline was created
Look through all the menus cannot find out how to print a document.
Might be powerful, but it is unusual

Pages - Organization
I created a folder (Journal), created a Notebook in it (August) created some pages. When September came around I continued to write in the August notebook and I canāt find a way to move the pages to the right notebook.

Hi Iāve been using this app and itās extremely similar to flexcil so I use both sometimes but there are some preferences Iād like to bring forth for consideration.
1) the background screen when document is opened is dark grayā¦ can you provide us with the option to change it to light or white?
2) there are some apps that have a pencil tool which writes *alot* better over ipad. the app I use the most, I use it due to this very thing, that I definitely prefer to use a pencil like tool that looks like pencil upon writing than this solid pen
3) the ability to use folders is amazing especially with the ability to add subfolders but I donāt understand the hashtags or the tags and why they have to show to the side if folders already exist
overall I love the app and I appreciate it as a pro version user. I think especially the changes made with the apple pencil pro is perfect and like a cherry on top. thank you for your time

I started using this last year for pharmacy school after notability completely changed their interface and itās fantastic. The price for pro is so worth it too. They update so frequently too and have really stepped up the usability on Mac as well.

This is the Note Taking, and PDF Reading and Annotation App I Needed
There are many great PDF apps out there. This one is the Hemingway of this apps: simple, direct and incredibly powerful. Everything it does, it does well, and it does everything I need. Annotations, printing, labeling, sharing, recording, and customization are fantastic. And the price should be higher. It is insanely cheap. You are crazy not to give this program a try. In fact, even if you are primarily a Windows-oriented worker, as I am, it is worth getting a cheap iPad to use this app even though there is no Windows edition of this program. It is that good.

I prefer this app, but wish it had a little more for paid version
Pros - Easy to use, simple layout, free page layouts, seems to have a lot of options for editing.
Cons - For the paid version, I wish that there were more shapes and options like rotating the shape or something else to have more control. Also, noticed several times when I had made an update to notes in one device (I am using on Ipad and iphone) that the notes did not save correctly or at all. This is probably the biggest annoyance to me because I have my apps set to sync and it is obviously not saving at all in some cases (or oddly enough it will show up in another device on the wrong layer? I noticed that it looked like my notes were missing, then clicked on it and it was on wrong layer. but then I had notes from another day that were altogether just missing - I have lost it completely and that really makes me mad because if it were something really important then that would be extremely bad for some people using this for work or school!)
Summary: make an option for making manual saves before closing and fixing any bugs if thatās what was happening to my notes, and I would be more than happy to give 5 stars.

I loved this app alreadyā¦New update just made at countless times better!
Noteful is already one of the most used apps on my ipad. It is a easy to learn program (coming from someone who is quite stupid and is very particular about app UIās.) It is countless times easier to get used to than the other app Iāve tried. On too of that, I honestly felt discusted at how bad other apps were, especially for their pricing. This is a VERY cheap app (I think I payed $10 dollars) for all of the features youāre getting AND OH MY GOD IT ISNT ANOTHER SUBSCRIPTION! Everything is very customizable and is easy to move around to your needs, from the orientation of tools and notebook tabs, how you organize your notes and see them, and even the tools you use, which they have a ton of! Moving around pages within notebooks is really easy (this is a feature I use a ton) and exporting pages to print when needed is quite easy. Iām barely scratching the surface on features here. If you needed any sign or suggestion on a notetaking app, take it from here! I would honestly suggest this too almost everyone. The only downsides I can mention are the no synching with other devices (which isnt an issue for me personally) and no handwriting recognition. It does have a text searching option. (Text boxes are kinda finicky. With persistence, theyāre fine but not for large chunks of notes) I just opened the app today, and I didnāt even know a new update was coming! Itās so good, and sold me on this app even more. I cant say enough good things about it. Please just go try it out, for your own sake.

Good app and its getting better month by month
So far I like Noteful. It has some great features that are not present in other apps like Goodnotes and Notability, and some that are that would great to have here in Noteful too. Four features I really want are 1) handwriting to text conversion 2) arrow shapes 3) the ability to save text colors to palette that can be accessed quickly 4) a page tray like notability that slides out so I can quickly move from page to page, add or remove a page, etc.

I switched over to Noteful after seeing the prices continue to increase for other apps I had. This was the BEST switch. For the price you pay for this app, it is an amazing app and soooo worth the money. This app helped me get through grad school. It is easy to navigate and has a lot of different features. They need to consult a med student
The app is kind of a kid's note taking app. Can't even test out the critical sync function without paying. Like, I don't have money to TEST if the app functions well, I need to try it before I buy it. It Has potential that is nowhere near tapped. They need to consult a SERIOUS student, like a medical student, who is basically a student for life. It is funny because the preview images in the app store are targeted towards medical students, but they don't know their customer.
1. The outline funciton takes over the whole page! There should be a navigation bar on the left that can be easily hidden, just like every functional intuitive reading/note taking app.
The app should really be free or cheap, and reaching out for feedback before charging so much. Then they can charge up when it becomes more functional. At present it is a toy and it looks like a clueless CEO is in charge. The paper designs are horrendous as well.

This app is a joy to use. I used to use the āgoodā competition, but Noteful wins hands down in my opinion. The entire app is beyond words and measure of useful and fun to use. I canāt get over how many features this app offers and the ease of use without that annoying subscription wall. I highly recommend this app to anyone who is looking for a serious and customizable note-taking experience. Itās alright.
I love using the app as a person who enjoys being creative in diaries and my note taking. Screenshots and pictures of diagrams/tables can be added to my notes and written over, the ability to move around and resize blobs of text, and the drastically reduced hand numbness from writing tons of notes on paper have really benefited me in my learning and hobbies. But I have a complaint. Recently, when i write, my text boxes glitch. Naturally, your sentences lengthen the box sideways when you write without manually resizing the text box. Usually, youāre gonna resize the box eventually because if you dont the text spills off the page eternally. But when you resize the box to fix this in any way, the words overlap terribly and become unreadable. Then, after i click off the box to fix its appearance the sentence or small paragraph I just wrote disappears. Itās really annoying that I have to actively stick to a strategy of pre-sizing and clicking out after every sentence just to avoid losing noticeable progress on writing. You can search through typed text and add tags to pages to help you sort them/get an idea of where to look for what. You canāt search through your handwriting, so my strategy is to type titles, definitions, and headers at least. The app is good enough as a free tool to use, but this recent bug is really on my nerves. And after reading a recent review about potentially losing all my information i am a little more dissatisfied than I was originally. So now Iāll be backing my pdfās up to something like google drive and probably investigating app alternatives in my spare time š¬

It's (nearly) FLAWLESS!
I overlooked this app several times, only to discover that it is better than Goodnotes, Freenotes, Notability, and even Penbook. Here is why:
~ Custom stickers
~ No AI whatsoever
~ Good-quality pages
~ Text boxes that are not, well, boxes
~ One-time payment
~ Not-so-limited free version
~ Good pen tool
~ Perfectly imperfect eraser
~ Customizable page color
However, even with all of this, it's still lacking a few things with which it would be absolutely perfect. Other apps still one-up it in some areas. These are this app's only flaws:
~ Unrealistic highlighter
~ Limited page templates
~ Slightly confusing interface
These are not that bad, unless you are part of some realistic highlighters movement. I'm not; I would recommend.
Wait! There is one more thing I MUST say: The text boxes are very glitchy (typing-over-what-you-just-deleted, disappearing-and-reappearing glitchy). Why I did not originally consider this a problem, I don't know.

Better than Nebo for PDF annotation (and more)
This app blows the socks off Nebo. Nebo would constantly lag while quickly trying to annotate PDFs. NOTEFUL does not. I didnāt see any way to erase partial lines in Nebo. In NOTEFUL you can erase full strokes at a time or partial. Has all the robust features I got used to in Nebo, and very intuitive to use. NOTEFUL has an incredibly helpful tabbed navigation to quickly jump between open notebooks. I will miss Neboās infinite canvas, but thatās not nearly enough to keep me from switching. Definitely worth the purchase! (and I just discovered the templates for everything from music notation to dot grids to line grids to ruled paper. It keeps getting better!)

i love this app, i think itās best if we have a favorites bar tab where we are able to integrate and switch between a highlighter and pen simple and fast, and be able to change the pen size as fast as possible. it would be amazing! :)

Glitchy App, Major Data Loss, and Unresponsive Customer Service
I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with Noteful. Following a recent update, the app began to glitch, making the Apple Pencil pressure feature unusable. I attempted to fix this issue by deleting and reinstalling the app, which unfortunately led to the loss of over 150 essential files, including a yearās worth of crucial dental studies and notes. Despite being logged in and regularly saving my notes, none of my files were synced and available after the reinstallation. As a lifetime subscriber, I trusted Noteful to securely manage and sync my files, but this trust has been completely shattered. To make matters worse, Notefulās customer support has been utterly unresponsive. I sent a detailed complaint describing my problem and requesting an investigation, but I have not received any acknowledgment or response. I have contacted them twice, yet still no reply. This incident has caused significant professional setbacks and personal distress. Losing these files is not just inconvenient but represents a profound loss of time, effort, and invaluable data that cannot be replaced. The lack of support and communication from Noteful is unacceptable. I urgently request Noteful to investigate this issue, explain why this failure occurred, and provide a solution to recover my lost data. If recovery is not possible, appropriate compensation for the damages suffered is necessary. Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend Noteful to anyone. Their service is unreliable, and their customer support is non-existent.

Okay, i was looking for a GOOD note taking app, so i can study and plan other stuff. Till i came across Noteful, i see that it has a good review, so i bought it. I honestly loved the app. The lasso tool, the different pens, and the layers???? Is just amazingā¦ I honestly donāt regret buying this app. Itās seriously the best. Till i came across their ānoteful pro.ā

I see that the pro version has more layers, unlimited notes, and so much more. I looked at the price, and 4.99???? I was shocked by the price. For a amazing good note taking app, thatās extremely cheap compared to the other apps. Usually that cost 20 bucks or more. But I canāt believe it was cheap. So, I obviously bought it. And man, do i love it!! Noteful is probably one app, i will NEVER delete. So worth it!!!! And the fact that they have a tutorial kit to show you whats new with the pro version!! And i love that they have more features coming soon. I cant wait to see them. Noteful, please add a ton of more features!!! I donāt typically write reviews but I have been using this app for a couple days now as I wanted a cheaper but still extremely advanced and personalized way to take notes during important conversations that was less bulky than my notebook in my purse. This app has become a LIFELINE to getting all the information down and helping me organize my thoughts. 100% worth the 1 time purchase if you are needing to take notes as consistently as I am. If not the free version is just as good imo, I just wanted the extra sticker options for personalization!

The best note-taking app so far!!
I definitely donāt write reviews but this app is amazing! In my opinion it is better than Goodnotes. The free version gets 10 notebooks and thatās more than the 3 or 4 others offer. It costs $4.99 ($5.43 with taxes) and you own it for life (one-time payment). Unlike other apps that ask for a subscription payment. If youāre in school, like to draw, need a cheap note-taking application, or anything else this app is for you. If you have ADHD like I do this app is right for you. Itās easy to navigate and understand and they also have a few tutorial pages were you can learn how to use the features within the application. Get it, try it out and then decide. I can guarantee that youāll love it. 10/10, thank you developers for making such a wonderful app for people to use.

It's a great app! But know what to expect.
I love the app, it's use of layers and outlines are great. I would love if I could be more precise with my bookmarks, like if I could bookmark a spot on a PDF and jump to that. (My proffessors use Onenote, and when I import thier notes they come in as one long note.)
I wish the typing experiance was more akin to Pages on Mac, becuase what is there is very basic.
But users beware, there is no OCR in this app! So you're not going to have your ability to search your own handwriting. I've been told this is because the OCR software is a submodel, and the developers don't want to follow the sub models of other note taking apps (which I support! I'm sick of paying for subs!)

Need some improvements
Coming from goodnotes to this kind of felt disappointing at first but after using it for a while actually itās way better in many things but i have some complaints thatās why itās 3 stars, the layers is an amazing feature and very useful but please can you make it so that when you delete a layer it goes to the trash can I accidentally deleted a layer and all of my notes were gone I donāt know how to get them back, and when you draw a shape for example a rectangle by holding down on it I donāt always get a rectangle which is annoying and filling the shape with a color automatically would be nice, and itās lacking on the stickers side if you can add stickers it would be nice, overall itās an amazing app.

This app actually cares about its users
I have been using notability for the past 3 years and itās awful how bad the app has gotten in the last 6 months with the constant bugs and issues that will not get fixed, and Iāve heard similar things with Goodnotes 6. This app has all of the main features of notability (besides maybe a couple of small organizational features) plus the ability to tag and add layers, and the app actually works without crashing for a ONE TIME PURCHASE. It also doesnāt even take that long to get used to the layout. 1000% would recommend this app over notability.

Best by far
I tried many different apps upon starting college for note taking in class and for homework etc., and all of them were very limited and/or cost a lot.I have been using Noteful for an entire school year and love it. It is super easy to download PDFās to for editing or just saving, and for drawing and writing as well. You do have to pay for it if you want to have more than 10 ānotebookā documents at the same time, but I was happy to pay it because I use it all the time and it was a small one time purchase, not those stupid weekly or monthly charges everybody else has that is ridiculous. I would definitely recommend 10/10

Only 5 bucks? For all this??
I did a ton of research into which note app I wanted to use after buying an ipad to use for school. Noteful won not only because of the sheer amount of features that makes it like other popular note-taking apps combined into one, but also because like... Five bucks for lifetime pro. So I could get a lifetime of Goodnotes for 30 bucks, OR I could get a lifetime of Noteful for 5, which also has more features? Easy choice. I'm trying to convert all my friends to Noteful too.
I can't forget to mention how incredibly helpful this has been for school. Taking notes and organizing them is so easy on Noteful, it makes me life so much smoother. Thank you for continuing to develop such an awesome app!! š«¶

I love this app!- but please more pens for our Artist
I got this app during the time I was learning how to use an iPad as a total beginner, its really User friendly and the one-time payment is something uncommon in this environment of subscription based note apps. But please, It would be wonderful if there were more pens to create with. Also the text-typing is not user friendly, I wish there was a way to auto save because I wrote a whole History assignment and one glitched just wiped out more workā¦ not a good experience but for all its cons one canāt overlook its pros. The limitless ways to customize the page layout and change individual template pages (looking at you Notability) is quite useful. I would love a way to use community hubs in the app for those passionate about sharing their craft and displaying their aesthetic templates.

Amazing app and reasonably priced
I downloaded many apps to try out for note taking /planning/journaling. This app has almost every single feature of far more expensive apps, and even outdoes some of them! The only issues l have are pretty minor: you can't lock folders or notebooks, which is a bummer because I like to keep my journal private; and there arenāt templates or stickers included. The latter is really not a big deal, just a minor inconvenience. For the features included and the reasonable price, I highly recommend this app. It truly holds its own with the big (read: pricey) ones.

So much better than notability
I've been using notability for over a year and loved it but it was so expensive and noteful, in my opinion, is truly the better option! it is very simple and there are so many things i can do fully customizing my digital planner is easy. make sure you take full advantage of all the features it is 100% worth the cheap price!
The only issues i have with this app is how large images and stickers are when you add them, and when i scroll through my stickers and it bring me back to the top. iām not kidding when i say it severely irritates me.. i have a lot of stickers and i hate having to zoom out.

I want to love this appā¦.
But I canāt get it to work on my Mac. I have Mac Sonoma (14) and this app isnāt supported in the App Store anymore. So I canāt use this cross platform which really limits me in what I can do with this. Plus the fact that the backups split large files into more than one file so to open the file that I marked up (textbooks) I need to figure out which file it is and open it from the back up in my google drive. Which is frustrating beyond belief. I love so much about this app. That these 2 things are the biggest issues that I have that I have had to switch to OneNote so that I can open files on both my desktop and my iPad for classes. But then I have to use preview for my textbooks and note taking on preview is very limiting as well. I really wish this would integrate better so that I only have to use one app for school.

Best of the best and getting better
There are tons of note-taking apps on the iPad and Iāve tried most of them, and several of the more well-known ones Iāve used for years. Noteful blows them all out of the water. This app is amazing. My favorite things about it: layers (Iāve been dying for this,) rapid and reliable syncing across my devices, the minimalistic design of the useful elements that lets my documents be the star, and tools that just make sense. Iāve also only been using it a short time, but Iāve already seen it updated to improve reliability. Yes, there are still some features that havenāt arrived that some of the other apps have, but Iām hopeful that Noteful continues to develop to include new ideas. I hope Noteful gets massive adoption so that the developer has the motivation to keep this app at the front of the pack. Itās that good. Thank you, Noteful!

Worth the Investment, but..
I really wanted love this app as a potential complete alternative to Notability and Goodnotes I did buy the lifetime, which is more than reasonable. Having said that, I donāt think I am ready for it to be my full-time replacement. It is lacking a CRITICAL feature - the ability to LOCK notebooks. Would absolutely love to see that in an update!
ETA: I have also encountered a pretty significant issue in page loading. I have a PDF document uploaded that includes links to in the contents to the various sections of the document. When I click on the links, it takes a ridiculously long time to load the pages. I add bookmarks to different sections in the document, and when I try to go to the different locations, again, it takes an exhausting amount of time to load. This is a really big deal :( I have already purchased the app, so it is too late for me, but wanted others to know. For now, it is a good scribble pad folio.

Goodnotes refugee with a new home
Iām a formal Goodnotes user who dutifully paid for the annual upgrade, more to support the developer than any new feature they made. Their new fee structure seems really hostile though. This review is for the Goodnotes user who is thinking about leaving.
After some searching I settled on Noteful. It moves fast, is fairly responsive and to be honest Iāve hardly scratched the surface of functionality. As for parity with Goodnotes, Iāve yet to find a feature missing that I used in the past. Maybe most importantly for me and other people who can wrap their head around it is the inclusion of layers.
Layers in a note taker are a game changer. For business users you can create a work header and logo and lock it away and then write easily over it.
Layering also gives you the ability to shift between different dataās elements and not be saddled with several sheets of paper.
This is a great app!

Hidden Gem without a subscription
Many people really only know about the mainstream two notetaking applications with heavy subscription model. This application is a hidden great find with a one time purchase, most all the options and some additional customizable options as the mainstream ones. Developer doesnāt communicate with public from what I see but is very responsive with bug reports. He communicates with software updates rather than personal communication. Happy I found this application. Had all the features I needed and then some , without the bugs and a fair price ā¼ļø

Good App and Two Suggestions
I love the App because it is easy to use, good for writing, efficient in switching betwween notes. With this one, I do not want to go back to other note-taking apps. However, there are two things I would suggest for improvements.
1. Considering I am reading a long paper, on Page 60 the authors refers an quation on Page 1, I would open another window and open that paper and scroll back to Page 1. I hope that the paper stays on Page 60 when I open next time, instead of Page 1 since I open it in another window.
2. It would make this app more powerful if the search tool can identify the hand writing (in English). It is okay not to be very precise, but please add this if you can.

I honestly find this app better than all of those notes app currently on the app store, yes even better than good notes and notability. I've tried just about all the notes app currently out and this one was notably better than the rest. So good that I've purchased pro with no hesitation. Although, there are a few features that I do like from the others that I feel will be a great addition to this app like converting handwriting to text once the text box is selected like notability. Other than, you wont find another note taking app that is better.

One of the best apps I have used
Starting with the UI, simple easy to access.
The zoom in feature is very nice while still having a big view and then a blue box outline to show you what section of the document you are zoomed in. Different choices of colors to choose when using highlighting option. Also really nice tape feature I can definetly see myself using that later if trying to make some flashcards.
Clear page is in a very easy spot to find. Also I LOVED how I could import an existing document and export as pdf, these are very big features. Very well done app.

Really awesome app!
I really like this app this is the only note-taking app I am using I switched from good notes due to some features that were not in it and are in this app. This is a really awesome app and if you are wondering wether to get it, I would recommend you at least try it out! There is a feature I would like to see added in a future update. Which is being able to create your hyperlinks/links in the app. But overall everything is awesome about this app including the price tag which is only 4.99 which is crazy considering all the other apps. Love this app
I downloaded over 15 apps to write notes and none of them is as easy as this one, as of right now, 4 of my classmates are using noteful thanks to my random discovery lol, 2 of them have premium subscription as well as me. Love it and please keep updating it.
The only disadvantage is that there arenāt many options for cute fonts or neon colours or stickers and if the page u are on doesnāt have much space u canāt have a sticky note option that shrinks into a little square when u r done writing then u can just click on it to open it later on when u r studying like on some other apps. Wish u could include that option

Better than GoodNotes
My husband and I purchased GN5 for work and school note taking then within a couple months they rolled out GN6 and offered a tiny discount to upgrade. We were under the impression it was forever and not being pushed to pay even more. I spent some time looking around for alternatives and found Noteful and fell in love. I have everything sorted by work and grad school tags like Sprint Planning and each class/topic. I love you can import stickers and move around the UI, also my BIGGEST pet peeve in GoodNotes was when I closed out of it I had to reopen all the notebooks I needed but Noteful keeps them open and when I go back to the menu to look for other books I just tap a SINGLE BUTTON that reopens all my WIP books. This app is so much cheaper and so much better than anything else Iāve used. Premium is worth it!

So close to perfect!
To start off with, this app has a generous free version, and the affordable pro version is a one time purchase, not a subscription. I was inclined to rate this app four stars, but that alone pushed me to five stars
The user interface is simple and intuitive. it has recording that syncs with handwritten notes. You can add layers, and turn them on and off, lock and unlock, and rearrange them as needed. The free version includes a practice training manual that guides you through the app features so you can decide if this app is right for you. I found that to be very helpful.
2 features that are missing prevent me from deleting both Nitability and Goodnotes right nowā¦.
Noteful does not support handwriting recognition. You can search for a word or phrase in typed notes, but not in handwriting. Thatās a big one for me.
The other missing feature is hyperlinks to other pages in the same document (it does support links to web pages). Hyperlinks are needed to use the app for digital planning.
Aside from those 2 features, Noteful has everything I could wish for in a note taking app, highly recommend giving it a try!

Blown away
I ran across Noteful by accident during recent pandemonium around GoodNotes/Notability updates that people hated. To be fair, I didnāt really hate either of those updates I didnāt really get the panic, yāall act like the sky is falling because a toolbar was improved, but still, it made me curious when I saw many really positive reactions to Noteful. I was curious enough to investigate, and Iām glad I did!! There are certain little annoyances that almost any app has and the same was true of GN/NB, both of which I went back and forth but never truly loved (actually Zinnia was in that loop for me). Incredibly, Noteful checks all the boxes and adds stuff I wouldnāt have thought of!! I actually love it beyond any of the others I used and thatās saying a lot because I love my journaling enough to pretend I love my notes app no matter how annoying it is but in retrospect overlooking minor inconveniences is not the same as loving an app and guess what? I deserve to love my notes app in addition to, not in spite of, my journals. I would almost take a star off for not being able to create links but, meh. They need to add that though, itās a huge and as far as I can see the only glaring thing missing. Oh and actually I would like to adjust the shape outline and fill color/transparency separately. Thatās all!!

Missing some features but overall my prefered app
Noteful is my prefered app simply for its layout and customizability. I like the small headings and the ability to change which side of the screen the tool bar is on and what is in the tool bar. Thats my biggest compalint with goodnotes where the tool bar takes up such a large portion of the screen and the tool bar is not customizable.
The pen is not quite as smooth as other apps but its still great.
The shape feature spits out some random shapes sometimes but usuallY i can get what I want and its not an issue.
The ability to make layers is one of my favorite features for creating study tools by being able to hide things and put them back wihtout affecting all the writing.
The main feature still missing is it lacks the ability to search handwriting written in the app. It does search handwritting from imported pdfs though so I don't understand why it doesnt search whats been created in the app.

Enjoying it!
I left Notability to begin using Noteful. It has worked out great for me. If you are a person who likes to use the zoom box, you should try this app. There are a lot of customizable options and tools that make using the zoom box very efficient. I also love filing system & the use of layers in the notes. The recording of lectures and taking notes works perfectly. One feature that could be improved is copying and pasting images from PDF files. Also, I would love to see the ability to use color in the filing system, but these are minor issues for me. Even if notability fixes some of the features that they messed up/removed recently, I probably wonāt go back.

Best switch ever!
Been using another notetaking app for almost 10 years, after a recent update that made it unusable for me, I saw a recommendation on Reddit for this app as an alternative. Iāve tried a few other note apps over the past few weeks and this one by far is my favorite. I needed an app with the zoom handwriting feature and a few other things, this one delivers on that and even gives more options my previous app did not. I am absolutely loving this app, and so happy I switched. I think the only thing I wish it did have is the ability to import notes into an already open document, or an ability to merge certain notes so I donāt have to have separate notebooks for every document imported, but other than that I couldnāt be happier with this app and already bought the pro version. Highly recommend!!

So far so good. I'm another "No (ability)" refugee. Just using the free version for now while I figure some things out like how to get my old notes ported over and how to search my chicken scratch handwriting. Does it actually read and search our handwritten notes cause so far I don't see that feature? One last thing I'm adjusting to is no stickers š. I can get used to that though. Outside of my learning the ways of this new app I do like the intuitive UI and looked at the history of how this app dev treats its customers and it's obviously better than the completion. Thanks for being here. I can't wait to upgrade to the paid version soon.

This is the note-taking app you are looking for!
I was devoted to Goodnotes and Notability since 2016 and would not have seen any reason to change until this year. If you are a serious user then you will understand what I'm alluding to (and I don't like to bad-mouth the apps that used to serve me well). There are now many more competing apps for note-taking and presentation than there were 7 years ago. I tried out about half a dozen of them after reading reviews and watching many tutorials. I decided to switch to Noteful, which does everything I used my other note-taking apps for, but also does more, and does it better. The transition was extremely smooth. I fell in love with the app. The one-time purchase of the very reasonably-priced pro version was a very easy decision. I am telling all my friends and students about Noteful. As a bonus, I am even sleeping better at night.

seamless transition
Iāve used Notability for about 10 years, but this year, the cost to keep the app is ridiculous. So, I switched to Noteful because Iāve heard that the UI is very similar. After using Noteful for about a month, I do agree that Noteful is the best (and much more affordable) alternative to Notability. The transition to the app was seamless and learning how to use the tools was very easy. I was able to work on this app for college immediately.
My only complaints (very small issues tbh) are that thereās no handwriting search, no color coding for folders, and the resizing of handwritten notes. The option to search for handwritten words would be very helpful as I have hundreds of ppt slides, and itās hard to look for certain words that I personally wrote myself. I also have a lot of folders within folders, and the titles of my folders tend to be long course names. So, arranging them by color would be beneficial. Lastly, the resizing of handwritten text reminds me of Goodnotes, which I personally don't like. I much prefer to resize/rotate handwritten text by using my fingers with the āzooming inā motion, rather through the current boxes.
Overall, I am still very much pleased with Noteful. And despite the small complaints, I hardly miss Notability after using this wonderful app!

Loving it!
I am a long time GoodNotes user who was researching different apps to switch too after their bait and switch. How I WISH i had known about Noteful long before! Pretty much everything that both GoodNotes and notability canāt offer, they do. Color pickers, layers (!!!) no lag time even with big planner files. Multiple pen options. While I understand the need for subscription based fees, I really appreciated the affordable one time fee. The only features Iād like are a pencil option and the ability to add a gif like in notability. But those are cosmetic and slightly silly requests. This is truly a wonderful app!!!

Goodbye Goodnotes, Hello Noteful
I use to love Goodnotes, and no doubt youāve heard about them. Looking at the front page of the App Store, Goodnotes is rated the top in the store. Wanna know the funny thing? Itās not. Noteful is up and coming, having more quality of life features and wishes Iāve had for awhile in a note taking app.
Test it out and youāll see functions such as a ruler, page colors on templates, the ability to tape things out, change your stroke width, etc. If you arenāt familiar with Goodnotes, features such as this have been requested for years. Noteful decided to pick up the slack and put Goodnotes in its place.
Go download it. Youāll see what I mean.

Noteful: the new king of writing apps
After 2 other well known writing apps cost themselves customer loyalty (one because of a terrible update, the other because of another tired bait-and-switch tactic of charging a subscription for an app already paid for), I went on a search for an alternative. One where the developers respect their customers and listens to feedback. One with a respectful privacy policy (which definitely was NOT the case with one of the aforementioned popular writing apps). And one that refrains from this greedy trend of charging subscription fees instead of a one-time reasonable price.
In Noteful, I think Iāve found such an app.
One-time price? Check. Clear and concise privacy policy? Check. Feature rich? Check, check, and checkmate. This app has everything I need. Itās layout is beautiful, itās UI is intuitive, and the developer seems committed to the user base.
One more ānoteā about privacy: when a developer has the talent to make an app this good, yet still has a privacy policy that makes it very clear that data mining is not part of his business structure? THAT is the kind of developer who we should all be supporting. In fact, I would encourage this developer to consider putting in a tip jar, because users like me who are fed up with apps cavalierly violating that basic principle will gladly contribute regularly to someone doing things the right way. Beautiful app, fully featured but feels lightweight
I switched to this app from the competitor Notability and am much happier. I use it for handwritten notes and annotating pdfs. It has a beautiful, intuitive interface for note taking and annotation. It makes it easy to organize pdfs with both folders and tags, which can be used to organize full papers as well as individual pages and passages. The app feels snappy and lightweight. There are no obtrusive features or ads, and the price is an incredible value for what you get. And, the developer is responsive and helpful ā I submitted a feature request and got a prompt personal reply explaining that the feature already existed (the ability to see long pdfs in thumbnail view, with page-specific tags).

Almost the best.. except for the search option and txt recognition š
I enjoyed using this app a lot. In fact it is my go to note taking app at this moment. But I really miss some features from other options such as the handwriting recognition and universal search. It will be a lot more helpful if I could convert my hand written notes into texts. Another important feature that I find really useful is the universal search option which can even recognize your hand written texts and show up on the search menu. As a student it is very helpful to be able to find out what I have written on which page from the search option itself. This will be my humble request to the developers that they should add this search feature in future updates. I hope it will be the best of the best note taking app after these minor tweaks.ā¤ļø

Minimal, Efficient, Refined & Nearing Perfection
I'd really like to thank the developer(s). This really is a joy to use. All of the features that I need, with no unnecessary ones, and an extensive free mode to let me fall in love with it naturally. At this point, I have tried every note taking app and this one is the best deal. The biggest reason for me has got to be the shape input. I don't think the AppStore listing sells this feature hard enough, so here's my experience. 1. Draw approximate shape, and hold at closing vertex 2. While still holding, adjust size and rotation. 3. Release pen to enter vertex edit mode, where the shape can be fine tuned. (Once you've stopped editing vertices though, the shape is locked in) No other app gets this right. Shape input is *so* natural, versatile, and consistent. The only improvement I could ask for is allowing the editing of a shape that has already been finalized. I understand that if the shape is no longer a vector object that this makes it impossible, but a nerd can dream. - A very very happy customer

New user, so far I am impressed
I can tell the app is really well thought out, excited to see how it grows and what new features can be added - Iāve been searching for an app that I can use to consolidate all of my note taking and journaling, which is right now spread across so many apps that have some of the features I want but not all of the ones I need.
This app so far has been covering about 90% of my use case needs, and Iām ready to see how I can implement it every single day for work and life. I already feel so much more productive

Overall great
Overall I really enjoy the app. Only thing missing for me personally as of right now is the ability to create links. I truly need those links so that I can go back and forth within my notebook with ease for my studying and the information that I need. It makes it harder when I donāt have the links, which affects my time management and productivity. If that can be added would be much appreciated.
Ultimately, I do love this app. And I hope the the links will be added soon, so that I can use just one app, instead of multiple. Thanks for all that you do! This app is wonderful

Smooth But Lacks Image Import
I thought i would give this a try because it was recommended by PaperlessX, and paid for the upgrade because it was only $5. Even if i don't find I use it long term it is a small price to support development. I feel it offers a very nice writing experience with a clean interface, and layers is an interesting feature. However, it seems to be missing the ability to open image files from the Apple File manager, as i can with Notability and Goodnotes. This is important because I often export slides from powerpoint as png images, or get images of the internet, and annotate them during class when Iām teaching. I realize i can convert them to pdf, but that is an extra step and my other apps handle that for me.

The potential to be better than GoodNotes and Notability Combined
As a medical student, this app has surpassed my expectations. Although it is missing some key features seen in other note taking apps, the features included already are refined and intuitive. I would technically give this app 4 stars, but the extra star is for the potential I see happening within the next couple of months for two reasons. The company is very receptive on ideas and additions you would like to see in the app and, judging by the version history, they have been adding features and improvements monthly (at times weekly).
Although it hasnāt replaced my other main note taking apps yet, I paid for the app to support the developer and I could see it becoming my primary note taking app in the coming months!
Things I would like see in the app include
- ability to search words in documents from the main menu
- handwriting search function
- auto backup to other cloud drive services
- dark mode
- import personal templates
- ability to change pressure sensitivity of apple pen (not as essential as the other features mentioned)

Best Note App
I am loving this note app. Iāve tried all the majors in search of the perfect one for me. Notability and Goodnotes have rested on their laurels, Noteshelf is getting there, while Zoomnotes has everything but is complicated and has a clunky UI.
This app has exactly what I want. Here are the standout features for me.
1. Even though itās feature rich, the UI is simple and easy to use. Navigating, changing settings, and just doing anything in general is so easy and quick. Everything is where you expect it to be.
2. Tags and nested tags as a way to organize notebooks has become a feature I didnāt know I needed. Itās so much better than folder structure. Finding info on a topic across all of your notebooks or individual notebook pages is amazing. Theyāve since added folders as well.
3. Layers are awesome. Zoomnotes and others have implemented layers, but theyāre just so simple to use with Noteful.
There are things the app is missing like handwriting to text conversion or a writing zoom tool (Zoomnotes has the best one if your interested in adding one), but I donāt use those so it doesnāt matter for me. All the other things it does so well trumps the missing features. At 4.99 itās a bargain.

Love love love this app and the customer service
I really like this app! One no subscription, 2 I can back it up to my google drive, 3 thereās a lot of templates built in (they even have storyboard which i needed) and the page can be colored dark through the template, 4 thereās a hands on tutorial that takes you through the examples, 5 thereās a default example of how notes could look included, 6 the notes can have layers thatās sooo dope, 6.5 you can open multiple notebooks and keep them in tabs, and 7 the ui is mad decent! I really love this app.
I sent them feedback about 1 thing they already had and something Iād like and they were amicable about it, which I appreciated. If thereās a way to make custom templates ,brushes, or stickers Iād love a tutorial .

SO close to perfection
This app is seriously impressive. It is intuitive, and is feature packed. There are two major issues that make this app fall behind GoodNotes and those are 1. the inability to freely resize an image -you cannot make an image longer/shorter only - only resize it while maintaining proportions. GoodNotes is one of the only notetaking apps Iām aware of that has this ability and itās an important one - especially for digital planning! The other thing is that if you have light/extra bold/etc fonts installed, this app doesnāt recognize them. You can only select the regular/bold/italic options. Missing these alternate weights is a big downfall as well. If these two issues could be fixed, this app would 100% be a 5 star game changer in the notetaking industry!
