Bloated ad-ware app
The DUPR rating is useful and it’s nice to see matches/scores but this app is just too bloated with ads — I can understand some ads here and there but this is just way too much. I can only guess it’s their way of pretty much forcing everyone to pay for their subscription system, but the actual results is turning people away from using their app more often (I know I for one will only use it when absolutely required knowing how annoying it is to deal with all the ads).

Far too invasive and ad-centered for what it is
Like pretty much anyone else playing semi-competitive pickleball, our league uses DUPR. However, it’s to the point with the ads that I’m deleting the app. It simply is not worth my time close out three different ads that pop up just to see my scores when I can do it online with an adblocker.
It’s absurd that DUPR feels the need to push their subscription so heavily to the point that even when you close out an ad, it takes you to the payment screen anyways which should be completely illegal. They need to get a handle on this because right now there’s no way the obsessive ads are doing anything other than pushing people away.

A Lesson in Bad UX
This app has really gone downhill. I understand the need to monetize but the experience is now full page ads selling you on premium. Then a full page ad selling pickleball gear. If you click into someone’s profile it’s a full page, 30 second ad. It feels desperate and we can just go on your website with Adblock anyways.
Maybe offer something useful with your premium like premium insights instead of making your app experience poor and gatekeeping the removal of ads.

I love DUPR…. But
I use DUPR quite frequently and I think it is the best and most comprehensive system. The new update I cannot stand. The ads are ridiculous. Fullscreen, unskippable ads that make me want to close the app and never reopen. I understand I can buy the premium version, but $30 a year is crazy for basically just removing ads. The user experience for the thousands of free users is ridiculous.

Can’t play with weaker players or affects DUPR score
My older brother who is 10 years older than me asked me to play in two tournaments. We got second in the second tournament but since he is not as good and since we played in a 3.5 tournament I am rated as a 3.5. Same as him. This limits my ability to play in local clubs with DUPR requirements set to a minimum of 3.8. Guess I should just create fake accounts and do fake wins like everyone else to alleviate this.

DUPR not super
The DUPR rating system has so many issues, but this isn’t a review of the system - just the app itself.
The app used to be okay - not great, but okay. Then its creators starting getting greedy, introducing a membership option and bombarding the site with ads for non subscribers. Some of the ads make it impossible to use the app without completely shutting it down and starting over. This shows how corporate greed ruins good things, at least in the case of the DUPR app. The good news is that the app now better reflects the DUPR rating system’s quality.

Changing algorithm
In early 2023 I had a 3.4 DUPR. I entered an intermediate league (3.0-3.9) at my club. I finished the league with 20 wins and 8 losses. However, because some of the players were unranked my DUPR DROPPED to 2.8! The algorithm was changed afterwards to prevent this from happening but no change was ever made to my DUPR. I’m now working extra hard to raise my DUPR to the appropriate ranking while new club members are benefiting from the revised algorithm. Frustrating!!!

Super inaccurate and annoying
Although Dupr is a good concept, it needs a LOT of work. The ratings are extremely inaccurate. Most people are ranked way higher than they actually are. My ranking is way higher than what am I which is frustrating because it prevents me from playing in tournaments at my actual score. The scoring honestly makes no sense. A friend won a match again two 3.5 players while being 4.5 on Dupr (closer to 4.0 in reality) and his score got moved up to 5.4!!!!! I like the concept of using these at tournaments but it is extremely annoying when they aren’t accurate so it’s hard to even know where to register at tournaments since your dupr is most likely way higher than your actual score and some tournaments don’t allow you to play at a level different than your dupr.

Great but one slight suggestion
DUPR is the best way to get someone’s rating that we have as of now so most people are forced into getting it which is not the problem I’m really noticing. I’d suggest one thing
For the more advanced player: some player want to challenge themselves by going left handed. This means you have to make 2 DUPR accounts. Not a huge thing but it would be nice to click a button “non dominant hand” and does the exact something. I’ve noticed a couple pros make different accounts JUST FOR THERE LEFT HAND. I’ve had to do this. But most people know my dominant and rating and won’t let me participate in much lower lever events because of this. Left hand brought back the joy of pickleball for me and I feel like there could be better ways of making that work!

Unfair non regulated system prone to fraud
There are many people with multiple DUPR profiles, and we have easily confirmed this by seeing that locations, names, events played and even the partners overlap. It is an impossible coincidence that 2 different people would have the same exact name, and would play with the same partners in the same tournament. And then these people use the DUPR ID with the lower rating to register for the tournament so they can play down and win. And then the tournament Director logs the scores with the ID with the DUPR ID the cheating player submits (their 2nd DUPR ID with the lower rating) so then if you lose to them, your rating gets tanked, but even if you win against them, your rating doesn’t go up much because they have an artificially low DUPR due to their multiple accounts. DUPR should “verify” accounts with birthday and photo ID and force merge accounts if / when this is reported. Otherwise the DUPR rating is simply not legitimate or reliable. It would be very simple they can sort all players by names and find duplicates, contact players and verify. And they could research when incidents are reported and take swift action. This is the only way that credibility can be built and maintained on this platform.

App Does not Work - Customer Support is Not Responsive
The email verification feature on the app is broken. I have verified my email like 20 times at this point and it keeps asking me to verify it again and again. The “already verified button” doesn’t seem to do anything and customer support unfortunately does not respond. There’s definitely a great opportunity for a better pickleball ranking system.

They basically try to get you to spend more money on tournaments to increase your rating. But as soon as you lose a match or you don’t add sessions to your account from other tournaments that don’t match up with pickleball brackets then your penalized and lose massive amount of points terrible software and terrible customer support. If your injured and not up to date with submissions they penalize you. Horrible software and they don’t QA their own work.

The dupr rating is flawed
The dupr rating is majorly flawed…
Before the dupr rating got revamped a few ago. I did not see all my matches counted. In fact only the matches that I loss were counted!
Also I see this guy rating was 4.0 after he won 5 out of 6 matches in 3.0 level. So he decided to play our 3.5-4 level the following week and of course he got totally crushed…

Completely disfuctional
Literally, the worst app I’ve ever used. When you win against higher rated players, your ratings go down yet Teammates scores go up. Scores take forever to update in the system – literally months and months. you have to make sure everybody enters the system or you won’t get any ratings. Basically, no tech support other than “we’re working on it.” They’ve been saying the same thing for over a year and a half. “It’ll fix itself, it’ll fix itself,” but It never does. I have heard the same feedback from literally dozens of players. I finally got so frustrated, I just deleted the app. Looking forward to an actual technology company creating a app that works. It’s the wild west in Pickleball so people are just happy with whatever they have, hence the high ratings from many people.

Notifications don't work
I've had this app for a while now and recently discovered the ability to message other players. Unfortunately, the app doesn't notify you when you get a message. Email and app notifications are on by default and I also turned on text notifications. But, I get no notifications when someone messages me. I can see the messages in the app or on the website if I go check, but the app should notify me. Please fix this huge flaw ASAP!

Right now I’m trying to validate a match and it says to update the app first, and I’m in the latest version…….When you published how the algorithm works, you need to score x points for it to count….well…I see players not playing with others because they don’t want their DUPR to go down. Take this down and bring back the fun of the game!

Ratings when playing advanced players
I know I’m a 3.2 on my best day but when you play higher level players it should not just be based on the win. DUPR should average the teams and apply a range so that your score does not tank just because you lose. I don’t understand how the calculations work but they do not seem fair when you are playing higher level players. Pretty upset I lost .14 in one afternoon playing very skilled players. Depressing and totally not accurate in my opinion.

Demands to be updated in order to validate new matches, you go and update and it still won’t let you do it, thinks it hasn’t been updated. Also When playing leagues full player info like phone number and email are not available in the app for some reason, web version is still superior which is a shame

Terrible player search
Impossible to find players on the app. When I try to add a match and type in the full name of my partner, he doesn’t come up, even though I know he’s registered and I’m spelling his name correctly. So then I try searching just by his first name, but then the app spits out hundreds of people who are registered all over the entire state - and none of it is alphabetized, so it’s impossible to find him. I tried it with opponents and ran into the same issue. So flipping frustrating. Really poorly designed app.

Buggy, Inaccurate- A Joke that will be replaced
DUPR is getting 1 star in 2 different categories.
1) Overall Experience: DUPR does a terrible job tracking what a players actual rating is. The fact that you can increase or decrease your rating from what happens to a players results EVEN YEARS after you played each other- makes no sense. It’s all about a moment in time, when you played the match- as players are getting better/worse constantly, your rating should have nothing to do with another’s pickle journey. The system in general is fairly broken, they need to learn from ELO ratings like Chess & other big ranking systems (video games have some great ones) that can accurately depict a skill level, dupr is wildly inconsistent & doesn’t do a good job doing what it’s supposed to do.
2) App Experience: What a terrible system. The app is buggy, and technically troubled. The UI/UX is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever personally used. I could give constructive feedback here to fix, but it’s not worth it in a review- this is a 0/5 app & the website is also a very bad experience.

Algorithm???
What happened to the algorithm?! Shouldn’t it be changing as our network of people changes? Where is the performance chart? I’ve heard it’s only reflecting wins/losses now and not factoring in points. I sure hope that’s not the case, that would be ridiculous! Not a fan of recent updates.

I love a lot of things about this app, however, I would really really really like the ability to add friends! Every time I play with my friends I have to search for them time after time. This fix would make this app flawless.

Love the concept, but don’t love the inconsistency
The app keeps evolving, and they’ll fix a bug but then change the algorithm, or create a new bug. Right now I can’t get to my flex league opponents info in the app; have to go to the desktop, but some players do et even own a PC anymore. Love that we can enter rec games so that non-tournament players can get a rating!

DUPR Rating System is easy
Recently downloaded the free DUPR app and played some organized DUPR matches at a local club. The organization then reported the scores to DUPR and after sufficient games my rating result was activated. Then played some rec games with fellow likeminded players that were of similar ability and we kept track of our games. One player then posted them to DUPR right on the app and I was able to see the games and validate them. Thus they will count towards all of our ratings. DUPR app also allows you to look up other player’s ratings, follow all your reported matches and view stats. I think its an excellent app.

Can’t get past email verification
I made an account and have verified my email 3 times in the past 2 days. It continues to tell me ‘you must verify your email to access this feature’ and it gets red when I hit ‘already verified’. My friend joined at the same time and is having the same issue, we’ve both tried logging out and back in with the same result.

Feature suggestions
I think that you should be able to add people as “favorites” or to a watch list, so you can keep track of your friends and favorite players. That’d be interesting. Maybe even add an “add friends” button, or create lists and group chats

Great idea, practically has bugs
Still needs updates as this app is very slow and requires me to start it up again frequently.
Unable to upload profile picture - I know it’s possible but literally cannot find it and I am a young person :)
Challenging to have 1 admin upload games for league play (still not sure if possible)
Would be nice to have favorites for people I play with often as it is harder to find people with a common name

The sport needs a great rating system like DUPR is building. It’s already very good and while the app is well designed, the performance of the app is too often hindered. Poor performance for such a widely used app. Would also appreciate more insights within the app about the algorithm and statistics. Thanks, DUPR.

Good Start, Needs work.
The premise behind this is solid. This gives PB players a way to know their actual rating in somewhat real time. (Weekly updates)
The app is far from user friendly and really needs a point and click method that will allow you to input data easier and on screens larger than a phone.
To input an entire league’s results is very time consuming and will leave you with a headache from looking at your phone for 2 hours.

Updates to results
The updates to matches played come through once a week, but the performance analysis and updated DUPR rating does not update at the same time. The causes the user to have to constantly check for updates so that you have your latest rating. Most recent ratings are needed for event placement.

New to pickleball, like the app, Match History page loads slow
Was introduced to the app being new to pickleball. I like the concept and the rating system. For me, the Match History page takes a long time to load (greater than 10 seconds). I only have 6 matches, so not a lengthy history that would cause the page to take that long.

Awkward
So much to want to Mike, but so much that’s just poor programming and user interface.
I get the idea and purpose. Kind of fails on execution.
First off, I already noticed the date is wrong for my games.
Second, data entry is very awkward. Doubles partner and all opponents must be entered individually. Why can’t I enter them at once?
I’ve already seen someone entered an incorrect partner for me and it was accepted. No way to edit a game and correct that after it’s been accepted.
I also see duplicate games entered…one by me and one by my opponent. So…now I have TWO losses instead of one. No way to edit or delete one or match the two as one same game.
And of course you don’t get a ranking until once a week, I think after Tuesday night.
Is there an actual person with an abacus calculating these? C’mon!
Not a polished app or a finished product, by any means.

The app is great and the concept is even better, being able to see your rating in a simple and dynamic way is fantastic. And if you ever played in a sanctioned tournament you already have a rating. Super cool app

Cool idea, horrible functionality
The idea behind DUPR is great and innovative, (although you benefit too much from losing to highly ranked opponents), but the functionality and experience within the app is some of the worst I’ve ever seen on an app that’s fully released and not still in beta. 9/10 times opening the app, something goes wrong and full functionality is not there.

Great idea but app performance is lacking
The idea behind DUPR and the impact it can have is is great but the software performance is lacking. The app is slow when logging in and waiting for your rating to appear. Navigation is somewhat counter intuitive when trying to return back to you home page. Support is responsive but can take some time to resolve issues but they generally do resolve them. Loading scores from leagues/ladders when after submitting in their template takes awhile, would be great if it was a drag and drop function like they have for adding players to clubs. They are over promising their software and not delivering on time. Transparency and responsiveness go along way in customer loyalty.

DUPR is the best!
I am SO happy to have found DUPR. I was having such a hard time organizing truly level based play before and would end up getting whooped by players way better than me. I don’t mind that every now and again, but it’s so awesome as a casual rec player to know where I stand so I can play actually fun and competitive matches. I also love the stats and how I can see my progress over time. Can’t pickle without DUPR!

Needs work…
I love the concept of this algorithm and the app is okay but there are some minor things that need work. 1. The matches sort order is a disaster. It defaults to sort matches oldest to newest despite that it says “newest to oldest”. Why? No one wants to start viewing matches from a year ago or more. We want to see the most recent matches and see them quickly. 2. I’d love to see a chart of my DUPR rating over time NOT the % of games won. Doesn’t make sense as front page stat.

Updated app works better
Previously I left a negative review because an issue prevented me from creating an account. Developers fixed that problem, so I’m updating this review. I really like the concept. Couple of issues remain for me. One, my partner and opponents have to be registered in DUPR for a match to be added. I get this, but it would be nice if I could add the match even if the algorithm couldn’t use it. Two, I play a tournament where the scoring system is “1 game to 11 win by 1”. DUPR doesn’t support this score method so technically I can’t enter the game. Would be nice if I could. All in all, thanks DUPR for trying to provide an improved ratings system.

I’ve claimed my profile. I’ve played in a few tournaments and see my history. But I am still listed as NR on my dashboard. When will my rating show up?
I play weekly in a shootout league. The league uses Pickleball Den for scoring and rankings. Do these scores upload into the DUPR system or do they require manual upload?
Are players expected to log recreational play. In golf we record every round, not just competitive rounds. Same for PB?
Adding scores for rec play needs to be streamlined if logging is expected.

Most accurate rating ever!
This DUPR rating leaves nothing to be desired. It is by far the most accurate system out there. It not only takes tournament results into consideration but any recreational match you play where all players agree to the results. Another amazing feature is the preciseness that comes with taking the points from each game into the calculation. DUPR has gone above and beyond!
