# PRO FEATURES

Basic adjustments like text size are free in Paper. More advanced personalization can be purchased with Pro Features. You will not be buying anything blindly, though. The trial period for Pro Features is untimed, so you can take your time to decide if they are a worthy investment.

While trialing Pro Features, you might occasionally see a popup. Simply press Reset in the popup to get rid of it completely.

Pro Features is either a subscription or a one-time purchase. Both the subscription and the one-time purchase unlock Pro Features on all your iPhones and iPads that share the same Apple ID. This subscription (or one-time purchase) applies only to iPhones and iPads. Macs require a separate subscription (or one-time purchase).

The one-time purchase is hidden by default. To enable it, go to the Settings app → Apps → Paper → Purchases → toggle Show Lifetime Option.

Best Writing App for Spontaneous Writers

I downloaded this app several months ago on a whim and have been BEYOND IMPRESSED with both its simplicity, and its usability. The way it seamlessly saves and updates with what you add, or delete, is amazing!

Questionable File Storage

I really wanted to like this app, and I did when I first started using it, but I was dismayed when I reopened the app to continue writing onto a file I had created and it was just completely gone. I proceeded to create a new one and watched the file, again, disappear before my very eyes when I tried to save it. Most likely a glitch, but very offputting and upsetting considering the amount I had written on that file that is now just gone.

Paywalled or not?

Even the most basic of features you'd expect from a writing tool are considered "pro" worthy. I'm not paying just to change my toolbar and font, that's absurd. It seems to just let you use it for free regardless. If it's a free trial, it won't tell you how long it lasts. Just wait, someday all the sudden it'll be payment only. My quest to find a decent writing app continues.

Useful

This app, I downloaded a month or two ago because I needed to turn my work into PDF’s so I could share them. It works well, saves all my work (most of the time), and I can use it offline. It’s a good app, and I recommend it for new writers if you’re looking to turn your work into PDF’s, export it, print it, it even gives you an option to publish it; it gives you websites you could publish it to; and it syncs to your iCloud. You can also sort it the way you want by date, name, kind, size, and tags.

I’ve been searching for an app that actually gives me control over the display of my markdown files, and this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. As a long form writer, I really prefer working in markdown and plaintext simply for future proofing, but I absolutely hate staring at it while I work because it’s ugly and distracting, particularly on editing. The ability to quickly fine tune the display through different phases of my writing is great. It seems like such a minor complaint, but this has actually altered my workflow for the best.

Great App!

Functional, clean, affective, and the text line thing has cute animations that add personality. For example, when you leave your phone on the app for a while in a page, the text line thing will flop over and sleep until you come back. A little thing they didn’t have to do, but did anyway! I recommend this app if you want a simple writing app without distractions or confusing controls.

Love love love

I downloaded this app today, and I’m in love with it. It’s so easy, it’s so minimalist. It’s actually so perfect. I start a lot of stories and never finish them, so it’s nice to have an app that I can start lots of stories with. This is quite possibly the best writing app I’ve ever downloaded and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to write. I have absolutely no complaints about this app. Also love the fact that basically every review I’ve seen the developer has made a comment on. Makes this app feel so much real and kinda like a family in a way, though that may be just me. But anyways, love love love.

Lost all Written Files

Never deleted the stories written I just opened it one day and they were all gone. Be sure if you use it to send a pdf of any documents to another app or location because it won’t permanently hold onto them and the function is way overpriced (30 bucks a month to just type on your phone and having files just vanish is insane) Kept the downloads of other documents but not a good app for just writing stuff down and storing it.

AMAZING APP- BUT A LITTLE WEIRD AFTER SOME TIME……

This game is awesome. I love it. It’s so useful. But, as I was using it to help with some suggestions, it started getting weird. It started talking about out-of-the-ordinary things. I I got confused, ‘cuz If you’d play the app like I do (Everyday, for a couple months) you’d be confused. And Idk if other people are having this problem, but it’s really annoying. I deleted the app and downloaded it agin. Not really helpful.

It’s was just an outstanding app, and I just wish it wasn’t like this. I hope the editors of the app would fix this.

Stoled my work.

Stoled my work and now I keep receiving an error on my other app. I can’t see my previous writing at all this invasive app downloaded my work from my iCloud automatically. Somehow my work just appeared on this -Paper app- with some weird codes and this / on each paragraph or in between sentences! Thank god I had saved my original story somewhere else!! :/

Neat, clean app for notes/writing. Too expensive for what it is. Annoying cursor.

Edit: In response to the developers response: You can turn off the cursor during the untimed free trial - but whenever that ends, all of the options, except text size and dark mode, are behind a paywall. $29.99/mo or $99.99/yr

It is a really slick app. It’s beautiful. Very well designed. But all of the options are (or will be) behind a paywall. To me, a casual user on a mobile device just wanting to take some notes, the price is a non-starter.

Perhaps if I wanted to use it to replace Word on my laptop it would be something to consider, but I’m only taking notes on my phone.

My one real complaint is that the cursor, which will jump around and ‘fall asleep’, when ‘waking up’ again causes the app to freeze. Not always and not for long but long enough to become irksome.

Randomly deleted all of my projects one day

Im a pretty large content creator in my own corner of the internet and I’ve been using the app to keep my projects organized and I just opened it, prepared to post some of my prewritten projects only to find every single one is gone without a trace.

The composition of the app is nice and i’ve enjoyed how neat it is but the fact i need to completely rewrite all of that is incredibly frustrating.

Finally, the perfect focused-based writing app.

Loving this app. A perfect, focus-based, smooth and beautiful interface with exactly the customization options you want (and not having to sift through those that you don’t want). After searching (and buying) so many apps like this, this is the one. Spellcheck works as you type (which seems to fail on iPad apps like Scrivener sometimes). Also, with a few settings changes, you can also make this a full-screen writing interface only (with zero menu bars on the screen). Syncs really fast and exporting to formats like Word (for my Editor) works perfectly as well. Bonus: the developer is very quick to reply to any questions.

Literally, A Text Editor. IOS will use it to Open.

OMG! The app, “Paper” is just what I’ve been looking for…. for years and years, ad-nauseating me! I’ll be able to sleep better tonight!

I don’t want an editor that interjects its interpretation of what I am typing into the file. I’m pressing “A” “B” “C” “D”s on the keyboard, I want precisely corresponding “A” “B” “C” “D”s in the file.

IOS would insist on opening .txt files in Numbers. Installing this program fixed that problem.

When I first got the app, I thought it was all plain but no I was totally wrong when I started it was pretty bad, but as a personal author myself this is the best app I could get it’s perfect for me. Absolutely perfect

I reviewed the Mac version of this app a couple years ago. I thought I’d review this version as well so when I found out I didn’t I had to immediately. Been using the mobile app for around two years as well and its wonderful. If you’re interested in minimalist writing, this app is for you. It’s pared down but not missing any vital features. It’s expensive, I’ll admit, but the devs got to eat, and it’s worth it. Couldn’t recommend more strongly.

Kind of a joke

I wanted a simple app to just display text. There are a lot of bugs — wouldn’t even let me create a document until I went into my files and made it manually. Barely lets me hide my keyboard (usually it doesn’t). This app needs major work.

Fun app!

I don't mind not having the type writing sounds, but they don't work on my end for some reason. The only real complaint I have otherwise is that I wish there were more fonts!

Onto why I gave it five stars? It’s a great app, fantastic in formatting, and extremely aesthetically pleasing (as well as entirely customizable)

The pro features, for me, were worth the purchase. I’m stuck with monthly until I save enough for the lifetime, but the fact that it lets you mess around with and test pro features instead of locking them behind a paywall (a reason I do not like a lot of apps. They don't let you try the features until you start a subscription or trial you may very well forget about, if it even gives yo a trial) is extremely nice. I was looking for an app that looks and feels sleek so I can sit and write, but I found this! Fully customizable. Gotta say, I like it a lot more than I thought I would. My complaints are minuscule. You don't even have to necessarily trust me on it: jump in and try it yourself. It lets you test every single feature it has.

This is the first app review I’ve written, and will likely be the last. But people need to know how excellent this writing app is — I’ve tried them all, and spent a fortune along the way. Paper includes the best features of the others, and avoids their flaws. It is the best writing app on the market.

This is a very simple and clean writing app. But I don’t understand why the premium features are subscription based! It looks like everybody is going on the subscription model even if it does not make sense! The premium features in this app should be a one time purchase.

Love this app

Like others, I tried many apps before finding this one. It does pretty much everything that I need. I am still learning about it as I work with it. Would appreciate being able to color different parts of my text different colors. If I can figure out how to get the colors I want , then this will be the perfect thing. I have tried more than 20 different plain text editors from the App Store and this is the best. I just need a plain text editor that can perform search and this does it very well. Many plain text editors don’t have a search function. One app that has the search function requires 3 clicks before you can start searching. Other text editors have fonts that are so tiny (which can’t be adjusted) that it really strains the eye to read my notes. I don’t have any use for most of the premium features since I just want a plain text editor with search function. The only thing I wasn’t happy with was the 1.5 line spacing. If the default was single line spacing, this would be the perfect app for me. And I’m happy to pay a few dollars just for this function. Would Mihhail consider different pricing for different features? For example, a one-off purchase for plain text features such as font size, type and line spacing?

Updated: The developer of this app is incredibly responsive and immediately set to figuring out what was going on after my initial review where i had some lagging issues with certain features of the app. With in a week they had the problem fixed and now the app works wonderfully! Not only is it the best app I've found for minimal no distraction writing, I am glad to know the developer provides a direct way to talk to them if there is ever any problems that is built right into the app.

The premium features cost a decent amount, but for me, it was totally worth it. You are able to customize your writing experience, which is something I value greatly to keep me focused. You are also allowed to try out the features for as long as you like before buying, which is another great plus.
