Don’t tell it car type!

After I told the app I drove a Tesla model Y it would not show me any of the other charging stations, only Tesla. However, I have a J1772 adapter and it will not give me the option to use those plugs or stations.

Lights on, but no one home

There were 4 stations at 51st Ave & Bell. Two had power lights on and two did not. None of the chargers worked. We spent 30 min trying to get them to turn on using the app :/

Much easier to quickly see what stations are faster than others. App just needs more users so that there are more reviews of the stations within it.

Needs some help but getting there

Every time a plan a trip the app keeps pulling in charge stations I don’t want to use. This needs fixing. If I choose EA network only as an example, a trip should only show EA! But every time I do this other stations pop in to my trip which are right next to the one I want. Very frustrating. Other things work really well but needs help. Also would love to be able to adjust the % of battery at end of a trip to higher % making you change longer at last station as many destinations in small towns have no chargers and only a level 1 plug at most. A few tweaks this app could be perfectly!

A great resource in the EV world

Easy and robust. The trip planning feature is excellent in identifying charging stations with your car’s compatible chargers. And clicking on the station lets you know speed and number of chargers, as well as amenities in the area. The app also provides the soc on arrival and departure from the station. Their customer support is second to none. I recently contacted them via their app, and rec’d a response the same day. I was contacted by a rep who gave me one-on-one tutoring on using the app. As someone who is not very techy, this was extremely helpful. I am taking my first long road trip with my EV in a few weeks, and will do so with much more confidence. The Chargeway Team is committed to standing out as the gold standard EV app.

Good idea but bad execution

As always developers have good ideas but they failed executing them or maybe not putting much work after they release their app.
In this case the app has multiple inaccuracies like charging station max speed. Dispenser rated 350kwh when in fact they are 150… Finally on my phone iPhone 14 pro, the trip planner is stuck in a loop. There are so many EV app available out there. If you go the extra mile to create one. Please make sure it add value or at least it works. Otherwise you are not helpful to the EV community.

Doesn’t work in CarPlay

Looks good on my iPhone, although I haven’t had time yet to really test it. But since it opens with a blank screen on my Bolt EUV, it’s not very useful for a travel app.
Update after the developer response. Changed from 2 stars to 4. Apparently, they didn’t read what I wrote. I said it was blank in Car Play. Not just no chargers. No map, no nothing.
Anyway, I tried again a few days later and it seemed to work OK as far as displaying information. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet on a trip.

Adds confusion to something simple.

The 1-6 charging system is confusing. Chargers are already identified as L1-L3 and have a kwh rating. Using Chargeways own proprietary system to label charging speeds pointlessly obscures the information and terminology that would be used anywhere else.

Scary privacy policy - too much personal data

This app/company captures *way* too much private information - read their privacy policy (which strangely has not been updated since 2018).
They don’t need 95% of the info they capture to provide what this app provides - so what are they planning to do with all that private info?
There are several alternative products which provide the same info and services without requiring this much private info.
“ We collect personal information that you provide to us such as name, address, vehicle information, VIN and contact information.”
“ The personal information we collect can include the following: Name and Contact Data. We collect your first and last name, email address, postal zip code, phone number and other similar data.”
“ If you use our Apps, we may also collect the following information: Geo-location Information. We may request access or permission to track location-based information from your mobile device, either continuously or while you are using our mobile application to provide location-based services. If you wish to chage our access or permissions, you may do so in your device’s settings. Bugs, incorrect, not useful

Their goal is to make charging easier - by obscuring the underlying details and incorrectly classifying what your vehicle can and cannot use. For example, it might say you are a “4” max despite being able to get the best charge at a “5.” That will cost you time and money. Worse yet - YOU CAN CHANGE WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN. From a simplified universal system to completely meaningless in 3 seconds. Beyond the basic premise, it’s not a good app. Crashes a lot, mediocre design, super basic features, no real integration with the vehicle itself, no understanding of actual charging curves. It pretends to know your vehicle, but really doesn’t.

wonderful app! Some desired future features please.

I really like the design philosophy and trip planning capabilities - far superior to the many other apps I have used for this purpose including ABRP, charger network specific and network aggregation apps, and the in-built apps on our Mach-e, Kia Niro EV and previous Chevy Bolts.
Would be great to see the following features for the smartphone app (I'm using the iOS version):
Support for multiple vehicles for a single user account (an everyday need for multiple EV households where drivers can switch between vehicles).
Saving planned routes on the app - they disappear if the app is closed.
Add additional waypoints for route planning - only a few are currently enabled and for our planned full r/t tour of the west coast for example, it's not enough for optimal route planning.
Customization of vehicle charger default configurations. Sure we're J1772/CCS in both of our vehicles but also carry a TeslaTap for charging at Tesla destination chargers too (thanks Elon!). It would be ideal if non-supercharger Tesla AC chargers could be considered as compatible with our J1772 cars and appear coded in green like the J1772/CCS stations do.
Getting the charger status information to work on the apo - that's important for basic functionality.
And then the moonshot involving some API heavy lifting on the backend - I actually really like the Mach-e in-built nav system interface and display (aside from its dreadful route planning and inaccurate charger location information) and prefer it to Google Maps, Waze etc running through CarPlay. In general I'm seeing a big improvement in the quality of in-built Nav in general across several car companies. So would it be too much to ask to be able to upload the route plan to the in-built nav system? I know that's a lot to ask but...
Thanks!

THE BEST! Makes driving my EV easy!

Requires phone number to try

Maybe this app works, maybe it doesn’t. I downloaded it to enter the information for my car to see how it worked, yet I am unable to do anything specific to my vehicle without providing my name, phone number, and zip code. I understand how this information could legitimately be helpful to the app if I decided to keep it and wanted to save my information, but I can’t get to the point where I would be comfortable providing it with my phone number if I can’t try the app.
This app looks promising, but spam calls are far too irritating to risk giving my number to an app that I am not yet familiar with. I may give it a try again someday if this requirement is changed.

Dumbed down version of ChargePoint

Doesn’t let you see details about the stations. Pick what type of adapters you have.
Lets not hide the details of the type of plugs.
I was recommended this app for finding hotels that have charging. Just adding my cars to it and it’s making me feel like the developers think we are too stupid to understand the inputs our cars can accept.
Sure add a filter for people that don’t want details, but don’t treat us all like morons.

Good app so far. Want to see better filters & switch btw miles/percentage

I enjoy the app so far. My favorite feature is the estimated time at an EV station. But there are still some things I’d like to see tweaked before it becomes my main charging app. First, where you can move the circle to divie up between miles needed vs. miles remaining, I'd like to be able to tap on the "322 mi" the middle of the circle to switch from miles to energy/percentage. Second, the filter still doesn't fully work. In the filter section, If I only enable the ChargePoint Network and the DC adapter (Blue 3 and up), the map results still show stations that are only AC (Green 1/2)
And to add another for finer points to my filter critique, I've realized that the filter is only adhered to when the "My current vehicle" filter is on. For ex.: If you just have AC (Green) adapters enabled, it still displays all level (Green/Blue/Red) charging stations. But if I filter with AC & My current vehicle, then it correctly just shows the Green & Red. Same scenario goes with Blue vs. Blue&Red. And noticed that any of the filter line colors and numbers become highlighted ONLY when My current vehicle is chosen as a filter. Please fix this!
Edit: Thanks to Matt for giving me a ring, personally, and further explaining how to JUST get AC adapter map results or JUST DC adapter map results. I also appreciate you taking down some of my small app feedback. I'll be using the app more often and I'm looking forward to having the ability to see either Miles or Energy in the Timer Section!

Great App and easy to use

I am new to the EV world. And I did not know how much goes into planning a trip with an EV. I downloaded Chargeway to play and plan random trips. The color codes (red for Tesla) made it super easy to find charging stations along the route, and green for other chargers with the adapter (something that the Tesla does not find). So far I planned trips to Lake Tahoe, the Grand Canyon and an excursion through the State of Oregon. I would recommend Chargeway to anyone that is new to the EV community or thinking about joining. Super app

Really nice app for locating chargers. I can't wait to see the ability to submit reviews in the app for sites and it would be neat if the app sees I am by “Charger XYZ” and that there are two cars plugged in there and those owners use the app too if I could message asking how long they might be or if I see they are full to let them know I was unplugging them. Just a way to communicate that wouldn’t share phone or email and just would let you “see” vehicles at the same charge site as you. I love the way it labels chargers simply with a colour and number. Some non-network stations are not yet in here but if people submit missing ones this app can be very complete.

What any EV owner needs

Go in to any EV community and you hear lots of talk about amperage, volts, KWH etc. I understand some of it, I can appreciate those who want to really dive in to the technology side of EVs, but as someone who just wants to own a car that I don’t need to think about this has been perfect. When I fill up a gas car, I don’t think about what octane means in terms of BTU and energy output, I say “$20 of regular”. That experience is what I’m getting here. Really hoping more EV car companies support this model, it just makes sense.
